Syncing ID3 T

Hello,
I have a question about the functionality of the Mediasource software. I've got a Zen Micro and when I first got it, it put a bunch of MP3's on it. These MP3's didn't all have complete ID3 tags.
By now I have edited all the tags, so now they are correct and complete on my pc. Is there a way (without having to delete and reupload all my songs) to update the ID3 tags on my Zen Micro to match those on my pc?
Thanks a lot!

Nomadsync is designed to deal with syncing tag updates, but I'm not sure if it will do exactly what you want. Have a look and see.

  • Serious 2.x media sync / ID3 indexing issue

I've found a serious issue with the media indexer, I don't know if this has been reported before. Right now, my Pre 2 with webOS 2.1 is unusable as a mp3-player.
First I've tried to sync music with iTunes on my Mac with "The Missing Sync". Everything was copied over, but I only had very few songs properly viewable in the music app. The rest was tagged as "unknown": artist, album, everything, even though the music is properly tagged.
Then I tried to use "Salling Media Sync", the free version. After a restart it worked, I could see all my music with there proper tags, no "unknown" mess anymore. I then tried to copy music again manually, simple drag&drop. The new music was not recognized again! "Unknown" artist, album etc.
I then deleted everything again, used a custom script for Apple iTunes to sync. Everything unkown again..
Right now, only Salling Media Sync seems to work.. I'm not the only one experiencing this, I already asked in a German forum and there are more.
Any idea? This is extremely annoing..

Yes. iOS 4.2.1 requires iTunes 10.1 or greater, which requires OS X 10.5.8 or greater.

  • Syncing & speed issues on MTP Zen X

I had thoughtlessly 'upgraded' my Zen Xtra 30GB to MTP firmware. Nomadsync doesn't work anymore !!
I am in a big soup now as I use Zen as the primary store of music and do all iD3 fine tuning, new transfers, deletions etc on it through my laptop which does not have any capacity to store music. I backup to my office PC whenever I go there as I have spare HDD capacity .
Forget about syncing ID3 Tags only, all other softwares - (Creative, WMP etc) do not even sync full tracks properly BOTHWAYS.
They do not delete tracks in syncing, nor do they overwrite an older PC track with a newer ID3 edited track from Zen (or vice versa) during Sync.
Notmad appears doubtful as per the info available on their site (syncing does not appear to be important to Notmad) . They have not bothered to reply to my mail.
Strangely, media source has now become the slowest browser amongst all such programs (Explorer, media Monkey, Real) !!
Can any one recommend me a good syncing software?

You're getting some really bad advice from Eddy, who I don't believe for one second is actually an Apple representative.  Clearing Safari's cache and twiddling Java preferences won't affect performance for all apps across the board, and zapping the PRAM isn't remotely an appropriate fix for this sort of problem.  As to his advice about deleting all your mail, note that I have every message I have sent or received since 2005.  You shouldn't keep them all in the Inbox, but telling you to delete them rather than filing them away in other mailboxes is bad advice, and again, wouldn't do anything regarding performance in any program other than Mail.
If you are still having some problems, check your hard drive space.  You need to have roughly 10% or more of the hard drive free.  Try repairing the hard drive with Disk Utility.  I doubt RAM is the issue if you've observed the behavior with only 3 apps open, but just to be sure, open Activity Monitor when things get slow.  Go to the System Memory tab and compare page ins and page outs.  Page outs should be less than 10% of page ins...  if it isn't, you probably could benefit from more RAM.  Also in Activity Monitor, look for processes using large percentages of the CPU.
Those are just a few suggestions, post back if you're still having problems.

  • Managing ID3 tags

Does anyone know a good utility for syncing ID3 tags in batches?
I have about 18000 mp3s, on which I have painstakingly regularized the tags in iTunes. The trouble is that some of these files have ID3v1 tags, and some have ID3v2, and some have both. In many cases the information in the two tags disagrees, particularly for genre.
What I want to do is sort of a "smart update." If the file has an ID3v2 tag, I want to leave it and remove the ID3v1 tag if it exists. If the file has only an ID3v1 tag, I want to convert it to ID3v2 and remove the ID3v1 tag. My goal is for all the files to have only ID3v2 tags.
I have experimented with the Convert ID3 Tag selection in iTunes, and found that if I convert to ID3v2, it does create an ID3v2 tag, but it leaves the ID3v1 tag appended. If I convert to ID3v1, the resulting file has no ID3v2 tag; but if I then convert it back to ID3v2, the file's original ID3v1 tag is restored, complete with mismatched genre information. I have to assume that it's getting this from its xml database.
Most of the third-party apps I've seen require you to go through the files one at a time. For 18000+ files that would take me until I die. I need something I can batch in command-line mode. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

The app I used back in my Windows days was TagScanner</
a>. I'm almost positive it can handle that.
Perfect, exactly what I needed. Thanks!

  • ITunes Match Sync Erases ID3 Tags

I have had no problems with the iTunes Match syncing between the iTunes that was on my PC (version, I don't know, but it was older than 11.4) and my iPhone and iPad.
But today I upgraded iTunes to the latest and greatest version (11.4), and now everything is MESSED UP. When I connect this new iTunes to my iTunes Match account, now all of a sudden all of the playlists on both my iPhone and iPad got messed up and came out of the Playlist Folders they were in and are now top-tier playlists. When I try to move them back into their appropriate folders in iTunes and re-sync, the re-sync effectively erases from iTunes the changes I just made. For example, it puts the playlist right back to where I moved it FROM. If I try to create new playlists, the sync erases them from iTunes. Even if I try to update an individual song's ID3 tag (like, for example, if I add some text to the "Grouping" field of a single song) and re-sync, the updated text disappears and reverts back to what it was before I synced. I don't even have my iPhone or iPad connected by cable to the computer, so it's not like iTunes is getting confused between whether to sync via cord or via iTunes Match.
I don't know what to do. Is my iTunes update corrupted? It seems to be functioning fine otherwise. No alerts. No bad DLLs. Nothing weird other than the iTunes Match syncing problem.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Sean

  • ITunes changing the ID3 tags and deleting music after syncing or opening

After syncing (or opening iTunes), iTunes changes the tags in about 25% of my music (this time it was about 90% affected). It removes the total track number on some of the songs. This has been a consistent problem. I noticed that it also actually erased some of my music, random tracks in my library are now missing (gone in windows explorer also). I have reformatted my iPod and restored it, it's not that. What is going on!! Going through and fixing 7500 songs every time I sync is ******* me off
Here is a picture of what it is doing: removing the total track on some songs
    http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u233/jupiterssj4/itunes.jpg
Forgot to mention that it also copied the artist field data to the album artist field... had to erase all of those too

Mine is doing the exact same thing. It happens every time I click on a song. Weird letter-number strings are inserted into the Comments field, my album art is gone, and the track numbers are messed up.
I've tried upgrading to the new iTunes. I tried reinstalling iTunes. I turned off my soundcheck option and deleting potentially comprised files. Nothing's worked.
I've tried emailing Apple directly and got no help. Anyone know what's going on???

  • Creative Sync Manager weird bug (featur

    Hi,
I'm a new Zen Touch 20GB owner although I've been an avid 3G iPod owner before it died on me some time ago. Anyway, I love my new Zen Touch for what it worth but if only if the bundled software would perform better. Well, first of all, I find Creative MediaSource Organizer to be quite a decent audio player despite the weird 4-panes navigation scheme. I have no problem with it yet though.
However, the accompanying sync plugin/module for my Zen Touch is very disappointing.
Before I start ranting, here are some details:
    Mp3 Player:
    Zen Touch 20GB
    Date of purchase: 0/2/2005
    Firmware: 2.0.05 (PlayForSure)
    Creative MediaSource:
Version 3.30.2 with updated driver for PlayForSure-enabled Zen Touch
Now back to the issue. First, it takes more than 0 seconds to initialise. Loading a big chunk of drivers for all MP3 players Creative have ever produced or what? Second, it doesn't have an option to delete files in my zen player which are not in my PC library. Third, it REFUSES TO REPLACE MP3 files that are already in the player eventhough the files are listed before the syncing procedure. You see, I edit ID3 tags of my music collection all the time so it is natural for me to have my modified ID3 tags to reflect on the files on my Zen Touch as well. OK sure, when I fire up the sync manager, it manages to detect that I have all these files with updated ID3 tags needed to be copied over to my Zen Touch but why in the name of creativity wouldn't it copy the files just like it should do? The files are already in my Zen Touch? Just replace them! I know what I want to do so just replace them! Or at least give me the "Do you want to replace the files?" box with "Yes" or "No" button. Why do I have to go into the directory structure of my zen player and delete the files manually in order to get the latest files copied over?
I hope this issue is fixed soon. Don't give me those "download the freeware NomadSync etc" advices. Why bother releasing the bundled software if it cannot do such a simple job of replacing files already in the player.
p/s: I read the "read before you post" post and I already did some searches in the forum for previously posted posts on the issue above but it seems that I'm the first one to discover it. Or maybe everyone else just doesn't care and decided to suck it up?Message Edited by anatilmizun on -09-2005 02:57 AM

well, I don't mind having to use other program for not-so-common jobs, but this is about replacing/overwriting files that are already in the player. I did mention that the sync manager is smart enough to make a list of files that it thinks should be synced to my zen touch but why won't it copy the files over? Isn't it weird if you sit and think about it's Isn't the real purpose of sync manager to copy files from PC to Zen or vice versa so that both places have the exact set of files? So what if the destination already has the files? The files are different, as detected by sync manager, so it should just overwrite them. It is the basic job the Sync Manager is supposed to do, isn't it's Why should I use another program?
It's like sync manager saying "hey, I think the files X, Y and Z in your MP3 player are outdated so I am going to sync them. WHoaaaa! There are already X, Y and Z in your MP3 player so I'm going to leave them alone" Sense any weirdness or craziness about this hypotethic monologue?Message Edited by anatilmizun on -0-2005 0:09 AM

  • ITunes won't sync a huge portion of my music files to my iPhone

Syncing my iPhone5s leaves enormous and seemingly random (though always the same) swaths of mp3s grayed-out ("dotted circle") or simply not copied from iTunes to mobile device (iPhone). The most warning I ever got was, I used to get a pop-up on the iPhone screen reading, "iTunes Sync -- [x] items could not be synced. See iTunes for more information." This number varied: [x] might be 24, 49, or 1,260, but iTunes itself gave me no warnings, alerts, or info of any kind.
I have restored from backup, I have restored to factory settings, I have manually deleted all music and re-synced, I have selected and unselected, checked and unchecked, manually copied and let iTunes do it, I have turned on and off iCloud and tried all of these steps again. I have turned on and off the setting to convert higher bitrate files. I have reset warnings over and over and over and over between each of these steps, hoping for SOME kind of "more information."
Somewhere along the way it stopped even telling me on the iPhone screen that files "could not be synced." Now it just goes through the motions, sits for a while thinking on Step 4 of 4 (ostensibly copying the files), and then returns control of the application and the device to me, as if it has completed the task. Nothing has changed and 1000s of files are still not being copied over. Files that WERE there on previous versions, prior to me deleting all the files in an attempt to get on just a small number of new ones.
I have tried every single base-level piece of advice I've found online or in any Apple Discussion post.
The files that won't copy don't have anything in common I can find. Furthermore, what iTunes says is on the phone and what the phone tells me it has does not match — in iTunes, if I select the phone and navigate to the playlists, for example: I am told that all tracks from the Tintin Soundtrack ("Adventures of Tintin" makes it alphabetically first and so it stands out as an example) EXCEPT tracks 6, 8, 9, and 10 are available. 6, 8, 9, and 10 are gray-circled out. However on the iPhone I only see track 1 of 18. No gray circles. Just 1 track. These tracks are all the same bitrate, same ID3 metadata, same file location. They all play fine in iTunes and I cannot see what would make one file copy several files *seem* to have copied, and some files not copy at all.
I am past angry. I feel defeated by the computer and on the verge of tears. What the ****, guys? What the f***, Apple?
    I have an iPhone 5s.
    iOS updated, v8.0.2 (12A405).
    iTunes updated, v11.4 (18).
I am on OSX v10.6.8, 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory.
I have my iTunes library spread across two external HDs, but this has never given me trouble in iTunes (well, it's incredibly slow ever since v11 came out, but it finds and plays files 100% of the time, in iTunes), and again, there is no pattern I can find between the files that do and do not copy. Certainly not location or drive or anything (alas).
    Please help...?

I had this problem.  Then I changed some of the music in my iTunes (manually going through to make an album "part of a compilation" just because another Artist happens to contribute to a song, so iTunes assumes its a different album?).  I then tried to sync but only some of my music came across, got the circles too.  I did a restore of my new iPhone 6 Plus and setting it up as a new phone and synced again, but then noticed some other albums needed updating on the library so did that, tried to sync and it won't.  Same songs not coming across as before.  I am in the process of deleting the library from my phone and will try again.  Otherwise, I have to do another restore and try again.  Will have I have to restore and start from scratch every time I manually update my library?  iTunes needs sorting out!!!!

(ios5 ipad bugs)I can't get changes of album art, artist, album and other tags to show up in the iPad music player, but they show up correctly in the iTunes device view. Certain random songs do not sync correctly.   Wifi sync hasn't worked yet.
I mostly use technology for education and professional audiovisuals and lights.
I don't sync  music because I use music from at least 4 different computers. (manually mange music)
I use my iPad to play performance tracks for church and a local gospel group out of our church, Won4Christ.
I chose to buy the iPad because the laptop of one of the group members (dellxps running iTunes) was randomly losing and mixing up music and I wanted a more stable option that was bigger than my iPod touch.
I tried to add some data to music libraries that I previously added to my iPad, but the data only shows up when looking at the device in iTunes.
Wifi sync has not worked on either my laptop or desktop ( both running windows 7 enterprise 64 and newest iTunes) not really a big issue, but very annoying
When browsing through library playlist albums on the iPad, random artwork shows up on playlists with no artwork that you touch while dragging, and it does not go away until you change to another navigation tab and back.
Random songs out of hundreds that I added showed up in iTunes grayed out with a sync circle beside them.  Those songs would play back okay on the iPad but were unplayable through the iTunes device view.  I had to delete the songs manually through the library along with the playlist and add them again.
These seem to be major stability bugs in the "new" music app and iTunes.  My only option right now seems to be to delete the songs that I want to change and re-add them with the changes already applied rather than changing the id3 tags and artwork on the existing music. I hope apple will release updates to resolve these issues.
Thank you for actually making it to the end of this manuscript of annoyances.

Just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions.

  • Are anyone else's ID3 tags all jacked up after upgrading to iTunes 11?

I have a large library that I'm downright OCD in managing tag information. All are set at v2.4 and genres, album artist, groups, both track and cd #'s as well as album art have been MANUALLY scrubbed religiously upon import to ensure a manageable library. I've noticed in the past that iTunes does a fairly horrible job in actually changing the ID3 tag info of the AAC or MP3 file itself resulting in horrible tag info when using the files in another system (Chrysler's MyGig system, Microsoft's Sync system, etc.) but iTunes always listed the songs correctly, making my smart playlists, sort and playback very easy and clean. That is until I upgraded to iTunes 11. Apparently they've re-read all the file ID3 tag info as I now have MANY different genres listed and album artist info has disappeared as well as track listing info. Do I need to get an external tag editor and redo all the tag editing I had done previously to now clean this up or have they fixed iTunes to do a better job of actually editing the file info itself?

Get Info on the song within iTunes is how I know the comment field is empty.
I don't have Match or iCloud enabled.
All other tag info is there and left untouched, only the comment field is blank. Tried removing and re-adding the tracks multiple times, but that didn't help.
Reason this annoys me is that I add information to my comment field such as additional genre/style information, band origin or location, related artists, etc. Very helpful stuff for smart playlists.
I can try Stephen Spark's suggestion to convert my ID3 tag version, but I've never, ever had to do that before, so, if iTunes 11 is suddenly only reliably reads one correctly it seems to be a bug with iTunes.

  • Sync contacts/calendar problem with 160gb classic

I've been unable to successfully sync contacts and calendars with my Windows PC (running XP).
I am using software version 1.1.1 and iTunes version 7.6.0.29.
When I try and sync with my Outlook calendar, the iPod/iTunes appears to be syncing. When I disconnect the iPod and look in the calendar, no events are saved. When trying to sync contacts, I check the "sync contacts from" box and then pull down to "microsoft outlook". As soon as I attempt to hit the "microsoft outlook" pull-down, iTunes freezes. I've not had any issues syncing music, podcasts, etc.
Thanks in advance for your help!

The easy way is just to do a restore. In the future, I wouldn't work on my iTunes library files while the iPod is connected. It seems to me that iTunes already uses a HUGE chunk of system resources, and having the iPod connected just uses even more. Then when you start changing ID3 tags ("Get Info"), it can really cause the system to CHUG. If you don't believe me, try just changing one ID3 tag on a 1.5GB movie file. iTunes practically takes over the computer until it's darned good and ready to do something else.
Or, I'd download [Tagger|http://tvtagger.wordpress.com>, which doesn't use nearly as many resources as iTunes, and allows you to edit many more ID3 fields than iTunes does.

  • ITunes Syncs Podcasts to iPhone - Podcast App only Shows 1

    Hi all,
I'm experiencing an odd bug with Podcasts that I'll try to explain as succinctly as possible.
There is a local radio show that I manually download from their website and listen on the Podcasts app through my iPhone.  Typcially, I download the MP3 of the daily broadcast, copy into iTunes, change the "Media Kind" to "Podcasts" and sync with my iPhone.  It's worked fine for a year.
However, since doing a clean install of Mavericks and iTunes, it's been acting wacky.  In this example, let's say I have 5 episodes of the radio show from last week.  They're named by their air date (10-28-2013, 10-29-2013, etc.), and look fine within iTunes.  When I sync them to my iPhone, I can see on the progress bar that all 5 episodes copy over.  But when I open up the Podcasts app, all I see is the newest epside (11-01-2013).  If I try to play that episode, it says it is playing the 11/1 episode, but it ends up playing one of the other 4 episodes.
I've tried unsyncing Podcasts through iTunes (so everything is deleted from my phone), and then synching again.  Same problem.  I've also tried unsyncing, deleting the Podcasts app, and then reinstalling the app.  Same problem.
Any thoughts or ideas on what I should try next?  Is there a cache or library file on my phone or Mac that I need to reset?  Thanks!

After a lot of troubleshooting, I found a fix.  It seems the newest versions of the Podcast app rely heavily on ID3 tags, so you've got to have a bare minimum of tags set in order for the app to properly recognize them.
To get started, you'll need an ID3 editor.  I used this one.  http://www.pa-software.com/id3editor/
Before you import the MP3 file into iTunes, open it in the ID3 Editor and adjust the following tags...
    1) Starting on the "Standard" tab, make sure "Enable V2 tag" is checked, and you have something for Title, Artist, Year, Genre ("Podcast").
    2) Still on the "Standard" tab, if "Enable V1 tag" is selected, go ahead and de-select it.
    3) On "Extended" tab, add a date to "Released" in the following format - YYYY-MM-DD
    4) On "Podcast" tab, make sure the "Enable podcast tab" box is checked.  Then, enter any website under "Identifier" and "Feed."  I just used http://www.google.com
After setting those tags, just click on the "Update" button, and you can now import the file into iTunes, sync with your iDevice, and the Podcasts app should stop acting a fool.

  • ID3 tags that look fine in iTunes are ungood on the iPod touch

I've got 60,000-plus MP3 tracks, collected over a decade, that were encoded by a variety of apps on Macs and PCs. The tracks look OK in iTunes on a Mac, but on an iPod touch, many songs are missing artwork, and others display the lyrics in garbled "mojibake" characters.
If the garbling occurred in all the ID3 tags (Name, Artist, Album, etc.) of a track instead of just the lyrics tag, I'd simply reverse the unicode; but as it's not, the solution has to force the misbehaving ID3 tags/artwork to display correctly. I've tried selecting the problem songs and reassigning the ID3 tag, but iTunes can't or won't overwrite the bad tags.
What does work as a solution is toggling the ID3 tags off and on by selecting the bad tracks in iTunes, right-clicking and choosing "Convert ID3 Tags...", then assigning "None" as the ID3 tag version. Next step is to select "Convert ID3 Tags..." again, this time choosing v2.3 or v2.4 as the ID3 version. That does the trick every time, stripping away corruption in the ID3 tags and forcing the tracks to accept artwork. However, it also truncates tags longer than 30 characters, and deletes existing lyrics and artwork. That makes for a lot of cleanup editing.
Is there a way to make iTunes assign ID3 v2.3 to tracks so as to overwrite the corrupt tags without going through the steps I've outlined? If not, is there an app out there with the mojo to fix these corrupt files?

If the song is in iTunes, and it is in a playlist that you auto-sync your Touch to, then the only things that might cause this problem are:
1- Is this new song un-checked in iTunes? If your Touch is set to sync only checked items that would prevent it from syncing. If that's the case, just enable the checkmark next to the new song and re-sync.
2- Is this playlist a smart playlist that is forced to be limited in size? If so, there is a bug with the 3.1.x OS such that smart playlists that are limited in size will have different contents (and sorted differently) when you compare the playlist on iTunes vs. on the Touch. The solution in this case is to disable Live Updating in the smart playlist definition, then the two versions of the playlist will agree.
3- Is the new song tagged as "Skip when Shuffling"? If so, and if your Touch is in shuffle mode, then the song count in the playlist will not include songs that are designated to be skipped.
See if any of those three things are what is going on. If not, then perhaps you need to reset or restore your Touch, but I doubt that.

  • "Converting ID3 Tags" Option disappeared? iTunes 8.0.2

    Hey everyone!
I'm right now struggling to get my iPod to work again, and I have so many problems, but I think converting ID3 tags would help.
But then the option of "Converting ID3 tags" seemed to have disappeared.
It's not in the Advanced tab, nor is it in the right-click menu.
I need help asap, since my iPod is already acting crazy by not being able to download all of my files in once sync.
    Thanks a bunch guys!

    It's still there. (iTunes 8.0.2)
    In the right-click option menue.
Just select the song(s) in iTunes library view.
