Syncing via bluetooth disabled?

AT&T customer support just told me that our syncing via bluetooth is disabled until we buy tethering. Is this true? If so, why?
If it is not true, why does the iPhone pair correctly but then pops up a message on the phone saying we "do not have the necessary services".
The device's bluetooth capabilities should not disable sync to my own Macs. This is crippling the device for no reason. Simply disable the device from tethering when attempting to connect to the Internet via bluetooth.
Could someone enlighten me?
We finally broke down and signed a contract for a GSM iPhone. It's the best. But AT&T and other "pipes" have had trouble keeping up with Apple's innovation -- or so it appears.

I bought two iPhones and just assumed they would build in bluetooth capabilities as they did with the ipods. I just wanted to upload a few iphone apps I bought on my computer to the iphones. Syncing contacts and calendars is more involved.
If I can sync with a cable, then why not via bluetooth? Perhaps this is something Apple does not support at this point?
Then bluetooth on the iphone must be used only for tethering? In what other ways is it useful?
Thanks for the quick response.

  • Iphone sync via bluetooth on PC

I have a hard time connecting my Iphone 3gs to my pc via bluetooth, it is pairing but it does not connect, it is telling me that the driver is missing does someone have an idea where can I find the driver.

Plugging in the iPhone could be easy but I have desktops and laptops. The USB lead isn't always near by or in the right pc. Besided all my preivous phones connected as I walked close enough to my main pc updateing even if I wasn't needing to do it at that time. Now if I want my calendars to be sync'ed I have to plug the pair together and wait for iTunes to load and the phone and outlook to sync. I want my things to work for me, make life quicker and easier. That's why you can buy fridges that connect to the net and order milk and eggs for you when you run out.
A gadget should just work that's thire point in life!

  • E61 Sync via Bluetooth or WiFi?

Using the Nokia PC Suite provided, I cannot seem to connect via Bluetooth. I CAN however connect from my PC to my e61 via Bluetooth, but cannot sync without the PC Suite software. Is there a solution to this problem? Is there any way of Syncing an e61 without the use of the cable?
    Thanks!

Here's what happens... when I open PC Suite > Manage Connections > Select Bluetooth > Click Configure > Enter the Get Connected Wizard > click Next, I get the error, "Cannot use the connection type. Check that all the needed hardware, software, and drivers are available."
This is odd, as I CAN connect to the e61 from the PC over the bluetooth connection and transfer files, but of course I cannot sync this way. It is also impossible to sync by selecting Sync from the e61 while the PC-e61 connection exists.
Any idea what the problem could be? Thanks again.

  • I cannot seem to sync via bluetooth with any other phone.  it says not capable.  what do i need to do?, i cannot seem to sync via bluetooth with any other phone.  it says not capable.  what do i need to do?

i tried to sync my iphone with my old phone to transfer all the contacts over via bluetooth but it said that the phone is not sopported.  what do i need to do?  will i have this problems with alot of phones? is there another way i can transfer over the contacts.  thank you.

The iPhone does NOT support Bluetooth synch to other phones.  You need to export your phone contacts to a computer to a program such as Address Book or Outlook and then synch those contacts to your iPhone using iTunes.

  • Isync not opening and won't sync via bluetooth

    Hey guys,
I have an older SE W810i cell phone and I'm trying to use isync via bluetooth to sync. Everything was syncing perfectly up until MobileMe was released. Now I cannot sync at all. However, I can browse the device via Bluetooth.
When I click on isync in my dock, isync bounces 1 time and does not open.
Is this something to do with mobile me or does it sound like an issue with isync?
    Thanks for any advice!

It's nothing to do with MobileMe and is more likely related to a recent Mac OS X Update.
Move the iSync application to the desktop, then move it back into the Applications folder. Then see if it will load.

  • Qosmio G20-118 and Active Sync via bluetooth

I cant make activesync to work when connecting my Pocket PC (With Windows Mobile 2003 second edition) via bluetooth. Can anyone help or post a link to a help page?
    Thanks in advance,
    Miguel Amaro

    Hi
As far as I know the Pocket PC must be in the cradle.
    1. "Tap" on start and choose the ActiveSync program
    2. Then "tap" on "Tools" and choose "Options" in the ActiveSync Program
    3. Check under "Enable synchronization when cradled using" to see if the setting is on Bluetooth
Important: Please remove the Pocket PC from the cradle and then return it to the cradle.
    This activates the new setting
    Bye

  • PC Suite sync via Bluetooth - odd problem !

    Hi,
I have two separate Windows XP installations on my laptop - one I use for work, the other for personal use. I have PC Suite installed on both copies of XP. My Nokia 6300 phone will only pair with the laptop's bluetooth adaptor for one instance of XP at a time. In other words, if I have my laptop running my work copy of XP, and pair my phone to it, it works fine - my phone sees the name of the laptop and PC Suite sync's ok. If I then reboot my laptop and load my personal copy of XP, the phone refuses to respond to PC Suite's sync request unless I remove the pairing for the 'Work' copy of XP from the phone and re-pair to the Personal copy of XP - then it works ok - until I go back to the work copy, and so on.
The phone will not pair with the laptop twice as it is the same bluetooth adapter being used for both instances of XP.
How can I get around this ? Do I need to make the PC name identical in both partitions ? - or does it work on a more detailed level than that ?

I have been using this kind of configuration for some time and have not faced any issues. One of the thing that comes to my mind is that many a times BT takes a long time to recognise the device. The disconnection and reconnection may take some time. That could be one of the reason.
There is absolutely no need to delete the pairing from one OS when you connect to the other one. Also you can keep different names, that is not an issue I suppose. But remember that both the PC's should be paired with the device.

  • Disable Blackberry Assistant greeting text when connecting via bluetooth

My Z30 updated to the latest OS 10.3.1.1581. Now whenever in connects to Ford Sync via Bluetooth I get a text message greeting telling me what day it is. This is getting annoying real fast. Can anyone direct me to how to disable the greeting?

I’m getting the same thing on my Z10 “incoming text message from BlackBerry Assistant”. I’ve deleted a few dozen of these messages off of Microsoft Ford Sync already. They just keep coming every time I connect my Z10. I can’t find any way of stopping it either. Checked all my options within Sync and my Z10. Does someone out there know how to turn this initialization message OFF?

  • Trying to sync Centro via Bluetooth (64-bit)

Hello, I have a new 64-bit system, and I'm trying to sync my Centro.  Having now discovered the 64-bit USB problem, I've configured the phone to sync via Bluetooth.  Now, everything seems to be set up properly.  The phone initiates the Hotsync, and it connects just fine.  The problem is that I have not been able to complete one single Hotsync.  I know that Bluetooth is slow, but I even tried putting on the Hotsync overnight.  The next morning there was absolutely no progress!  Even if Bluetooth is slow, that seems to be an excessive amount of time.
    Any ideas?

Do you have a BlueTooth radio in your computer? Did it pair correctly with the Centro before you tried to Hotsync?
Many folks have to purchase a BlueTooth USB adapter (a "dongle" ) to add this ability.

  • Can I automatically synchronize Outlook (Windows XP) via Bluetooth?

Hi, I'll have my first IPhone in one hour. I have read a few forums in advance, and noted that there have been some Bluetooth issues. What I'd like to do is to have the IPhone and Outlook calendars and contacts synced automatically whenever the Bluetooth connection is established. Would someone be able to help me out, as I don't have any experience on IPhone? I'd prefer to have a hackless solution, but those are okay if there's no other way.
Thanks a lot for help - I'm off to get my IPhone now

iPhone doesn't sync via Bluetooth. Bluetooth is only for tethering, P2P games and stereo audio.
Sync contacts and calendars via USB or over-the-air using Google Sync or MobileMe.

  • 700p, 755p won't sync via USB

My 700p stopped being able to sync and tether via the USB cable. Verizon and I decided the connector had died, so I got a replacement 755p. But that won't sync, either.
After an hour on the phone with Verizon tech support, the only thing we were able to figure out is that both WILL sync via Bluetooth. (This introduces new problems, though.)
    I've tried:
    New cable
    Switching USB ports
    Repairing permissions in Disk Utility
    Reinstalling Palm Desktop (4.2.1 w/OS 10.5.8)
    I'm desperate. Any ideas?

After three and a half weeks without an Internet connection, I finally figured out that Best Buy was selling a defective cable. I had tried two. Then I tried a different brand, which worked. Turns out others had had the same problem with the Best Buy cable. It did not work as advertised.

  • IPhone 4s in detecting any device via bluetooth

    Hi,
I just got a new iphone having used Windows Phone all along.  I am trying to transfer my contacts using bluetooth but iPhone 4s is not just detecting any device.  What's the way forward for this?  This should be a straightforward transfer but all standards.  Why is it so difficult for iPhone?
    Many thanks
    Bright

    Pair it for what?
Syncing with iTunes is done via a USB connection with your computer, or syncing can be done via wi-fi when the computer and iPhone are connected to the same wi-fi network. Either one is much faster than syncing via bluetooth especially for music, movies, larger apps, and a number of photos. You can pair the iPhone via bluetooth with your computer for tethering but that is about it for bluetooth.

  • IPhone is not connecting to my nokia phone via bluetooth

iPhone is not connecting to my nokia phone via bluetooth. How to transfer contacts in my  Nokia to iPhone

What upgrades are you talking about? If you already own an iPhone you clearly have enough money to afford one of the most expensive phones on the market - and you clearly have an internet connection, so there is no further cost involved to sync via WiFi or the internet connection you already have, using any of the free services to do just that.
If you insist on syncing via Bluetooth you'll have to pay for an alternative phone anyway - which would cost you more than just using the features your existing iPhone already has.

  • Macbook pro won't sync with Treo 650 via bluetooth.

I can only do one sync with Windows XP before the comm ports fail and I have to reboot the computer to be able to do a sync with my Treo 650 via bluetooth. It works well but only once then the ports all shut down of something. Any suggestions would be apprectiated.

Your signature says you have 10.3.x but presumably this can't be correct - could you please make sure it's correct to prevent confusion. 10.7.2 is required for iCloud - your Mac won't be able to sync with pre-Lion systems.
The fact that you have iCloud accounts showing does suggest you have Lion: are they showing in System Preferences>iCloud, or where? You can only enter one there.
Are the two different or the same? You could try deleting both and then starting the setup again from scratch.
