System Copy Procedure

Hi Experts,
Here my client wants to move their system PRD to a new server that they acquired. The environment is Windows on Oracle 8.1.7 with 4.6 C.
So i would like to know that best way of moving the system to the new server.
The Homogeneous System Copy is there, but in 4.6C Version i am confusing to chose the Export option from the Kernel CD.
Previously i had done the System Copy with ECC 5.0. But in this version i am confusing.
pliz do advise me on this.
I would also be grateful if anyone can provide me with documentation on how to execute this procedure.
Waiting for your kind reply.
Regards,
Praveen Merugu

Hi Praveen,
If you only need to move a system into from one server to another with the same OS platform and DB Platform, then you can use System Copy.
if you are confused how to do this, then:
1. Install SAP instance and DB Instance in the new server, make sure the SID is the same with the old server.
2.  Do offline backup of the old SAP Instance
3.  restore the backup to your new server, make sure you delete all data files in the new server before you do this
4. generate the control file script in the old server
5. copy the script to your new server
6. execute the script to generate all the control file
7. Startup the database

  • Homogeneus system copy procedure

    Hi Gurus,
    I have the following scenario:
    ERP Netweaver 7.0 SR2(SAP_BASIS 709)  Java + ABAP stack with Oracle 11.2.0.2 recently upgraded. I have to make a copy to the test system QAS.
    The question is if i can use new sapinst versions, (obtaining the newers installation master and Java CDs like SR3 or EHP 2) and its procedures to make the copy.
    Thanks in advance.

    Your question is quite confusing. You are saying ERP Netweaver 7.0 but basis version is 709. There is no 709 version.
    If your release is ERP 6.0/Netweaver 7.0 then you have to use installation master DVD of this version only. You cannot use EHP2 version DVD. And procedure of system copy is more or less same for 7.0 release or 7.02 release. You can check system copy guide on http://service.sap.com/instguides.
    Thanks

  • System copy procedure on Winder Server 2008 Mssql

    Hi Experts,
    We are planning for the homogenous system copy of our systems... So could you please tell us the prerequisites what we have to follow before system copy. It will be very helpful if you provide us with the documents....
    OS - Windows Server 2008
    DB- Mssql 2008
    Thanks in Advance..

    Hi Krishna,
    Hope you know how to go to installation guides in Service market place  of a particular relase from the link Eg : for ERP 6 EHP 6, you need to follow the below steps
    http://service.sap.com/instguides --> SAP Business Suite --> SAP ERP 6.0 --> Select EHP 6 for ERP 6.0
    and you can find all the relavant documents including system copy also. Based on  your system , you can select the document.

  • Migrate SAP from DB2 9.5 to DB2 9.7 using System copy

    Hello,
    We are migrating our SAP systems to new hardware and we are also planning to upgrade our database from DB2 9.5 to DB2 9.7. So my question is can we take a db backup of our current SAP system which is on DB2 9.5 and install the target SAP instance directly on DB2 9.7 during the System copy?
    Or do we need to install the target SAP instance on DB2 9.5 and then upgrade the system to DB2 9.7 after the System copy procedure.
    Please let me know as we need to start the migration at the earliest.
    Thanks
    D

    Hi Deepak,
    Yes, that is possible (but only offline backup). But for the new features like reclaimable tablespace (to lower the high watermark)
    it's better to export/import with systemcopy.
    Also with systemcopy you can use index compression.
    After backup and restore you can have also reclaimable tablespace, but you have to create new tablespaces
    and then work with db6conv and online table move to move one tablespace online to the new one.
    Best regards,
    Joachim

    Hi Nizamuddin,
    Message text
    Data on dump will not fit into current database. Need %d Mbyte database.
    Explanation
    This error occurs when an attempt is made to load a database dump into a database smaller than the dumped database. You cannot use dump database or load database to shrink a database, regardless of the amount of actual data in the database.
    Action
    If your goal is to load the database from the dump, you must increase the size of the database being loaded into to at least the configured size of the dumped database. You can do this with either the alter database command or by dropping and re-creating a larger database.
    If your goal is to shrink the total size of a database, you cannot use dump and load. You must copy all the data out of the database using bcp, drop the database and re-create a smaller database, then re-create the database structure with scripts, and reload the data with bcp.
    extend your current master *database* on the master *device* to a total size of 101376MB(or more) (use  'alter database' command)
    alter database master on master = <size in MB>
    If there isn't enough room on the master device AND the master device is either a file system device in a file system that has free space or was created on a raw partition that is actually larger than the master device was defined, then you can use the DISK RESIZE command to enlarge the master device
    disk resize name = "master", size = <additional space in MB>

  • Error during Heterogeneous System Copy -  Phase 18 Import ABAP

    Hello gurus,
    I´m facing an error during the Target Installation in a Heterogeneous System Copy (Migration). The system SAP is a SAP ECC 6.0 SR3 (Unicode and Abap+Java).
    Source server:
    Operation System:  Windows 2003 Server x64
    Database: SQL Server 2008 SP01
    Target server:
    Operation System:  Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) X64
    Database: Oracle DB 10.2g (10.2.0.4)
    I already did the all procedures in export database and all that looks fine!
    At this point I´m running the system copy procedure through SAPInst on target server (RHEL / Oracle) but in phase 18 - Import ABAP the sapinst stops... (by the way in procedure bar, I can see "Import Monitor jobs: running 0, waiting 1, completed 0, failed 18, total 19")
    I checked three log files (sapinst_dev.log ; sapinst.log ; SAPSDIC.log):
    SAPSDIC.log:

  • ECC6 EHP2 (ABAP+Java)  system copy using file system copy

    Hello Experts,
    I have a question around system copy method for a dual stack ECC6 EHP2 system.
    We are planning to take full file system backup of this entire ECC6 EHP2 dual stack system and throw it on a completely new hardware with new host name but same SID.  We are also planning to do a host renaming in instance profiles and re-building the control files in target system after we finish the file system restore.
    Is this method supported in SAP ? Or we strictly have to use  SAPinst to do export and import method.  In any case our source and target platform is not going to chance as per our scenario.
    Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Harshal

    > Thanks for the quick response. Is their any document that says it is not supported ?  Because of no proper document that says no to do it, client want's to try it out.
    For the ABAP part this is certainly feasible.
    The Java part has not only issues with the secure store but also with SID and hostname. The old values are stored in many places in the database and in, depending on the applications installed, many .properties files in the filesystem. So it would be not enough to somehow regenerate the secure store but also change hostname and SID in different places that are not really all documented.
    What you are basically looking for is
    Note 757692 - Changing the hostname for J2EE Engine 6.40/7.0 installation
    with the significant sentence
    This note should be applied only when the hostname of a machine
    where the j2ee engine was already installed has changed.
    It does not replace the SAP official system copy procedure and
    MUST NOT be used for copying of an instance to another host and/or with different SID.

  • System Copy from ABAP Stack to ABAP+Java Stack

    Hi,
    Is it possible to system copy (homogeneous or heterogeneous) from a system based on ABAP Stack to a system based on ABAP+Java Stack? Is it the normal system copy procedure or something aditional is required to do. Pl. advise. Thanks
    regards
    Edited by: Abdus Samad on Oct 24, 2008 8:13 AM

    It depends on what you want to copy, a system copy will always wipe out the existing target. But if you want to only copy data, you might be able to do a client copy. You can start with this SAP note: [552711 - FAQ: Client copy|https://service.sap.com/sap/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=552711]

  • System copy for ABAP+JAVA system using SAPINST method

    Dear support,
    We have recently upgraded to ECC 6.0 system and we have been still doing system copy by using backup and restore method. I know its<b> wrong</b>.
    which involves below steps , this old methos works fine for ABAP engine and evreything looks ok.But java engine will not work.
    So we need to use SAPINST method as described in note 785848 and system copy guide available on OSS. But i am really not able to understand sequence
    for tasks to be carried out in this SAPINST method.
    <b>Can anybody list few sequence along with step by step procedure as i mentioned below for old system copy procedure.</b>
    Is it really difficult to make that for <b>SAPINST</b>  as everybody says refer to standard guide and note ?
    Anybody if possible can make the same way as i did below , i think it would rather be small as far as my understanding after reading those docs.
    Simple old system copy procedure works for ABAP is as:
    Run the following command on source system.
    a. Login as <sid>adm
    b. svrmgrl
    c. connect internal
    d. alter database backup controlfile to trace;
    e. exit;
    f. Above command will generate a .trc file in /oracle/P01/saptrance/usertrace directory.
    g. Copy the text from CREATE CONTROLFILE until the ( and paste it in to any new .sql or controlfile.sql file.
    h. Copy the controlfile.sql to target system.
    i. Edit the file and replace the entire source SID to target SID.
    j. Edit the reuse database command with the set database command
    Copy the aft generated during the backup file from the source system to target system. (/oracle/<SID>/sapbackup)
    a. Change all the source <SID> to target <SID>.
    b. Only don't change the backup volume name it must be target system <SID>.
    c. Copy the above aft file name line from the source back<SID>.log to target<SID>.log file.
    5. Shutdown the target server instance.
    6. From this onwards all the command on the target system only.
    a. Login as <SID>adm
    b. run the SAPDBA
    c. select J (Restore/Recovery)
    d. select B (Full restore and recovery)
    e. select A (Select backup of type)
    f. Select the offline backup which you want to restore.
    g. It will take some time to restore.
    h. Once the database is restored login as <SID>adm and run the
    i. svrmgrl
    j. connect internal;
    k. startup nomount (if the database is already mounted shutdown it using the shutdown command)
    l. run the following command
    m. @controlfile.sql (file name of the control file contains the CREATE CONTROLFILE statement)
    n. After the run the above command it should give the "Statement Processed)
    o. alter database open resetlogs.
    I am really looking forward to see anybody take some time out to prepare this kind of step by step procedure.
    It would be of greate help for all of us for performing system copy with sapinst method.
    Looking forward for your support.
    Best Regards,
    AjitR

    Hi,
    As per the guide you need to do source system Technical Preparations, in that running the export preparation is also one. You need to run this first before you start the export, if and only if export will successful if preparation is successful.
    Yes you need to create the export directory to take the export copy of source system, it may be any where in your server. It should be having 6 to 8 GB free space.No need to create the export directory in target system, after export is completed in the source system you copy the export directory to the target system.
    <b>Target system</b>
    Yes you need to take the back up file system and delete all the contents of the directory.
    Yes it can be considered as fresh system installation but copy of source system.
    Yes the process follows after you giving the export directory path .
    Next screen you will get the database drop and recreate screen chouse the drop and recreate method
    Next J2EE user name and password
    Next DDIC password
    Next you have to give kernel and oracle client dvd path
    Next Parameter checking screen here if you are selected database drop and recreate you have to revise the oracle database system option
    If you are selecting review next screen is database advance option you have to select the advanced option
    Next you have to select following option to recreate
    1 Sapdata directory mapping
    2 Database instance file system
    3 Create database parameter
    4 Create tablespace
    Next screen sapdata directory creating
    Next screen you can just click next no need to change any setting
    Next table creation
    Next screen specify oracle instance directories
    Next again parameter checking and last this is last screen
    Next will be the execution screen
    Reward points if usefull

  • System Copy in MSCS environment

    Hi all!
    We are in the process of upgrading our R/3 4.7x200 system to ERP2005 unicode. The upgrade and unicode conversion of Dev and Test have been successful, and now Production is next. By the way, we are not doing a combined upgrade and unicode conversion. The difference is that Prod is in a MSCS environment, while the other to are Central systems.
    I have a question about how to perform a system copy procedure in a MSCS environment. As part of the Unicode conversion where I have to uninstall SAP (source and target systems are to be on the same hardware), and install it again as a system copy. I am wondering about the steps, and sequence of steps that needs to be performed in order to get the installation identical to what it is today. One node contains the Central Instance and the second node contains the database instance with MS SQL 2005. Do you have any tips for me?
    I have recieved some information saying that I can perform the system copy as a Distributed environment, installing the central instance on one host, and the database on the other. My concern is that this will not fullfill the requirements for a cluster environment, where one node (node A) can failover to the other (node B) and vice versa.
    Can you please advise on what the best option is and steps are?
    Any input is highly appreciated!
    Best Regards,
    Thomas

    Of course:)
    What I did was basically to follow the instructions provided in the ERP 2005 installation guide, chapter 7. This refers to MSCS installation steps. I also used the System Copy guide for ERP 2005, which referred heavily to the installation guide. It wasn't as hard as it seemed to in the first place.
    Good luck to anyone in the same situation, and do not hesitate to ask questions if needed.
    Regards,
    Thomas

  • System Copy in AIX

    Hi experts,
    o m new to basis. can anybody  answer to following questions?
    1)complete system copy procedure(pre-requisites and post).
    2)what are all the file systems i shud take back up for system copy.
    3)Pls tell me be how to check the file systems(sapdata1,2,3 etc).
    can u give the commands in steps wise.
    Regards,
    Abdul Majid

    Hello Abdul
    Refresh from Offline backup (AQC from APC) let's say AQC is quality and APC is production
    Pre-processing Activity:
    Verifications:
    1. Verify the last offline backup in the source system
    /oracle/<sourceSID>/sapbackup/back<sourceSID>.log
    2. Verify that both the source and target systems are at the same Oracle level (which is already the case
    between APC and AQC)
    3. It is recommended that an off-line backup be taken of the target system before starting this process, in
    case of fall back.
    4. Confirm there is enough space in the target (AQC) file systems to contain the data from the source
    system this is required as we may have to copy the files from Production to quality.
    /oracle/SID/sapdata* folders should be having little more space as compared to the source filesystem.
    5. Check access to SAP* for APC (000 and 400) and also for AQC (000 and 400)
    6. Check other passwords such as <sid>adm and ora<sid>
    7. Server : <source server name>
    User : ora<sid>
    > sqlplus u201C/ as sysdbau201D
    > alter database backup controlfile to trace
    > exit
    In /oracle/SID/saptrace/usertrace, the last trace (check the time) is the script for recreating the control
    file.  You will need to edit it. Please rename the trace file to ld<TARGET_SID>.sql and send the file to the
    target system /oracle/SID
    Edit the Script:
    vi  ld<SAPsid>.sql
    Delete or comment out all lines at the beginning of the file before STARTUP NOMOUNT which is kept.
    Change old controlfile creation statement at the beginnig of the controlfile:
    Old line:     create controlfile reuse database  <SAPsid>   NOresetlogs  archivelog;
              change to
    New line:     create controlfile   set   database   <SAPsid>  resetlogs  archivelog;
    replace all occurences of string  <source_SAPsid>  by  <SAPsid> in each line where <source_SAPsid>
    appears
    :g / <source_SAPsid> / s / <source_SAPsid> / <SAPsid> /g
    example:
    :g/P10/s/P10/T21/g
    Delete the following lines a the end of the script:
                   RECOVER DATABASE;
                   ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG ALL;
                   ALTER DATABASE OPEN;
    8. Get from the Prod system (APC) the .aff and backDPR.log and copy them on AQC.
    (/oracle/<SID>/sapbackup)
    Copy      the  files to /instkits/SID/. And after we can go on target source server and copy them from
    /instkits/SID to the /oracle/SID/sapbackup/. With the good owner and permission
    9. Lock all the users in client 400 except Basis and post system message.
    Target system data collection (On AQC -400):
    1.     SM59 Expand all the trees, print by choosing:  ->System ->List ->Print
    i)     Compare list to R/3 connections on source system.  Record details for any that will need to be
    recreated on target system.
    2.     SCC4 Record all client settings.  -> Tableview ->Print ->Standard List -> List -> Print
    Make sure you understand the columnsu2026
    3.     SE06 Record system change options
    4.     RZ10 Record the instance profile settings for:  rdisp/wp-no-btc  and rdisp/max_wprun_time
    5.     STMS Record current transport routes.  ->Overview -> Transport Routes ->           manually
    expand all trees -> system ->list ->print
    6.     Request customer to provide u201Ccatch-upu201D list of transports to be applied to system after refresh
    (QA and Sandbox systems).
    7.          RZ04 Record current work process set-up. Highlight each operation mode and click
    instances/op modes button.
    i)     Print with ->System ->List ->Print
    8.     SAP License Ensure the SAP license information is available. If not on-hand, logon target
    system as <sid>adm and enter command:  saplicense u2013show. This information is also available on OSS.
    9.     TSM Nodename View /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin64/dsm.sys on source and target system.
    Record the nodename entries. These will be <SID>SAP or server names.
    11.       Take printer Export through SPAD and save it locally to desktop->SPAD
    12.        Take Export of User Master from the client 400 through SCC8 target system is AQC , so that it
    may be re-imported through STMS.
    Note the Transport number here also verify the transport exist in the queue.
    DB Restore from offline backup from APC:
    1. Stop SAP on AQC -> Login as aqcadm -> stopsap
    2. Change the TSM node on AQC-> cd /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin64
            ls -lrt
           vi /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin64/dsm.sys
    Change it to point to APC, comment the AQC Node.
    Post Restore Acitivity:
    1. Stop Database
    Delete Old controlfile
    rm /oracle/AQC/sapdata1/system_1/cntrl/*
    rm /oracle/AQC/saparch/cntrl/*
    rm /oracle/AQC/origlogA/cntrl/*
    2. Re-create the controlfile and then after that start the database
    User : ora<sid>
    > cd
    > sqlplus u201C/ as sysdbau201D
    > @ld<target_sid>.sql
    > alter database open resetlogs;
    3. Change the sapr3 password
    Server : <target server name>
    User : ora<sid>
    Temporarily, we have to change the sapr3 password to the default password.  With SAPBA, change this
    user password to pass.
    4. Test the connection:
    Server : <target server name>
    User : <sid>adm
    > R3trans u2013d
    It should have a return code of 0000
    5. Reasign tempfile
    alter tablespace psaptemp add tempfile '/oracle/AQC/sapdata1/temp_1/temp.data1'
    size 6020M reuse autoextend on next 20971520 maxsize 10000M;
    alter database rename global_name to AQC.WORLD;
    drop user OPS$APCADM cascade;
    drop user OPS$ORAAPC;
    create user OPS$ORAAQC identified externally default tablespace psapdnausr
    temporary tablespace psaptemp;
    grant connect, unlimited tablespace, SAPDBA to OPS$ORAAQC;
    grant connect, unlimited tablespace, SAPDBA to OPS$AQCADM;
    7. Change the instance profile to stop all the background processing
    To be sure that no production batch are executing, set rdisp/wp_no_btc to 0
    posprocessing:
    8. Startsap
    9. Run Transaction SICK (as sap*)
    10. Installing license through the tcode: slicense
    While logged in as 000/sap*/using password of APC system
    Get the License from service.sap.com and download it to local machine
    Log in 000 client using SAP* and run the Tcode slicense
    import printers, run BDLS for logical system name conversions
    se06 posprocessing
    stms
    usermaster import
    import profiles for QAS
    thanks

  • Hom System Copy ECC 5.0 HPUX from PA-RISC to Itanium

    Hi gurus,
    I want to replace an old PA-risc server (rp5470) with a new Itanium server (rx6600) even in HPUX operative system where is installed a central instance of NW04 Ecc 5.0.
    It is possibile to procede with a simple Homogeneus System Copy, changing the kernel version (ia64 instead of parisc) and oracle executables?
    There is a plain compatibility between parisc binaries (oracle datafile) and the itanium binaries?
    Thanks in advance,
    Marco

    reading note <a href="http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1003028">1003028</a> it looks very much like you can now do a heterogenious system copy using the homogenious system copy procedure backup/restore as long you stay on Oracle.
    This procedure is also very interesting concerning 9.2 to 10.2 upgrades during system copy.
    regards
    Peter

  • Homogeneous system copy using export/import on WIn/Ora

    Dear experts,
    i need to know the homogeneous system copy procedure using export/import method for following scenario as we are in the process of Data center migration of SAP systemsfrom location to another location.
    Source system:
    ECC6/BI7/APO(ABAP stack)
    OS:WIndows 2003
    D:B:Oracle 10g
    Target System: New hardware installed on Virtual environment(VMware)
    No change of SID
    ECC6/BI//APO
    OS:WINDOWS2008
    D:B: Oracle 11g
    It would be great if anyone can share the documentu2019s/links (Not SAP homogeneous system copy guide) which you have prepared for the homog. system copy using export/import on Windows/oracle  as i have done the system copy using backup/restore for ABAP stack and export/import for Java stack so far.
    Therefore i am not sure about this procedure/prerequisites/checklist needs to prepare as i have gone through the SAP guide but it is not step by step document.
    Cheers

    There are two approacahes for your  project
    1) First wether to use Oracle11g on target database
    2) Continue with Database Oracle 10.2 on traget database
    If you want to use Oracle11.2 on your target database you have to search the installers which are supported for 11.2 database. If the installers are available then only you can install your target database using Oracle11.2.Other wise t use Oracle10.2.0.4 is supported on Win2008r2. You can use this version of Oracle database to build ur target database.It works fine . Absolutely no problem.
    Later on you can upgrade the Oracle10.2 to 11.2 Onwards.
    If installers are avialble you can use Oracle11.2 also. There is absolutely no problem.
    As per my knowledge installers are available and supported with Oracle11.2.Also check the PAM before arriving on any deciscion.
