System frequency on a Satellite A100-01L notebook should always be high

Hello,
Because I am a battlefield gamer there is a speed problems with my notebook.
It is a Satellite A100-01L notebook with 1.73 GHz normal system tact. (2 GByte RAM, 120 GByte HD).
The system frequency changes between 800 MHz (without hard job...) and 1.73 GHz (if it seems to be necessary). In the system BIOS its possible to select a 800 MHz (named slow ') or a dynamic clock speed (called: 'dynamic' modus).
My question is: was it possible to set the system clock always to 1.73 GHz?
Thank you.

Hm, usually there should be also an option "High" or something like "Always High". So, I suggest you to perform a bios update and then to check if such an option is available.
Otherwise you should look into the toshiba powersaver and make sure that everthing is on maximum.

  • No Powersaver Utility in Satellite A100-01L

    Hello,
I bought a A100-01L with vista but there is no possibility to open the power saver tool. Not direct or with the assist program. Also power saving in the Nvidia control panel is not available. All other programs in the assist tool were there, but not the power saving tool. After reinstalling the assis tool no program is available there.
How to get the powersaving tool and the Nvidia power saving? I've got Vista. From the Toshiba Wed site is no download available. The van runs permanently at high level.
    Thanks!

    Hi
As you know Vista is new operating system with more features and system optimizing options as WXP. Because of that Toshiba will not use the same tools and utilities as before. Many things are changed.
The best example is Power saver utility. Now you will not be able to use it as before. Because of that you will not be able to find download Power saver separately.

  • Satellite A100-159 - FAN is always on

    Hi,
    I have bought Satellite A100 159 with T2500 and Radeon x1600.
Fan is always ON. I have upgraded bios and it didn't help. What is more, when I set ATI driver to use PowerPlay and when the battery is low I get only some scratches at the desktop and the computer restarts. Windows shows that there was problem with unknown driver.
What can I do to stop the FAN - my CPU temperature is 28-31 cellsius and the frequency is always set to 2000 MHz (everest shows 1995 MHz).
I think, that fan shouldn't work while the temp is so low. My old centrino has almost always 40-50 degrees and fan is always off.
What can I do more to make the fan work only when the temp is higher than about 40 degrees?
    Kind regards
I have to add that my old Acer TM 4502 with Centrino has SpeedStep which makes CPU to change his speed from 500 MHz to 1600 MHz. I would like to do this with my new Satellite - it would help me with fan problem. If I change the speed of the CPU than the temp will be lower and the fan will not run all the time.
I noticed that fan is shutdown when I start computer at the morning when is cool. After windows start when the temp rizes fan starts and doesn't stop.
    Kind regards

    Hi
The Toshiba power saver is responsible for the CPU and Fan controlling.
Please open the power saver mode which you use, choose the tab basic setup and change the option Cooling method to a lower level. Furthermore you can change the CPU control method to auto.
This procedure should helps to change the fan usage.

  • Need help installing Intel Lan Driver on a Satellite A100-011

I have bought Toshiba Satellite A100-011 notebook with Windows Vista. Now I downgraded the os to Windows XP. The problem is how to install Intel Lan Driver. I would really appreciate any help, because there is no .exe file and I have no idea, what to do with those files.

    Hi buddy,
the files which are in the zip file are really the drivers but you have to install them manually which means you must go to the device manager, search for the LAN device which probably should have a exclamation mark and then right-click on it. After clicking a wizard should appear which leads you trough the installation process. When the wizard asks for drivers (if not already automatically found) then point on the folder where the driver files are located.
Then everything should be fine. :)

  • Satellite A100-234: Real Player recording sound not working

    Hi
I have problem with my sound system. I have satellite A100-234.
When i try to record from to sound recording it doesn't record..
plz plz plz help me if you can

I learned from searching with google that some sound cards do not have the ability to record what you hear. So the only choices are CD, mic and line-in. Other computers have a "wave out" option as well. Can the alc861 record "wave out" sounds?
I can't even get the Windows Sound Recorder to record. The only recording that I can do is through the microphone jack. I can't record from the CD Player or anything else.
Does anyone know the solution? If not, is there a place that we should look for this solution?

  • Satellite A100-003 WLAN connection timeout(with WPA-PSK)

I have a Satellite A100-003 notebook with preinstalled Windows Vista.
When I try connect to my router with WPA-PSK (TKIP) I have error:
Wireless authentication failed because of a timeout.
My notebook and router configurated correctly!! I installed new intel drivers for 3945ABG chip.
    WPA2-PSK and WEP work fine.

    Hi
The same happened on my old notebook.
I was not able to establish the WLan connection for longer than 1min with WPA encryption.
I have downloaded the newest Atheros driver and updated everything.
Everything works fine with WEP but not WPA.
Then I have disabled the Windows own configuration option and use the Atheros client utility. Now everything works fine!
I would recommend using the Intel Proset utility and check all possible settings!

  • Question about POWERPLAY status on Satellite A100-192

I have an Satellite A100-192 notebook with Mobility Radeon X1600 card.
In POWERPLAY Status it always shown as the adapter is "plugged in", also when I use the laptop with battery and the current profile is "Optimal Performance".
    So what is the problem?

    Hi
I see on the picture that the Power Play in not enabled.
In my opinion you can use either the Toshiba power saver or the ATI power play options.
The same happens with Windows own power options. This options are disabled and dont work if the Toshiba power saver is installed on the OS.
Ok, this is only my opinion and if you want you can test it.

  • Satellite A100-797 - Is it compatible with Windows 7?

    Hello everyone,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A100-797 notebook and would like to upgrade to Windows 7 as it becomes available. When I run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor it shows me a couple of errors that make the upgrade impossible.
The following devices are incompatible with Windows 7 according to the Upgrade Advisor:
    - Bluetooth ACPI
    - Bluetooth RFBUS
    - Texas Instruments PCIxx12 Integrated FlashMedia Controller
As I understand from this, after upgrading to Windows 7 Blueooth and the card reader will not work. I searched on the net for driver updates, but could not find any.
Can anyone please tell me if there is an Windows 7-compatible driver available for these devices and if not, when are they going to be? Thanks in advance :)

    Hi
Theoretically you can install Windows 7 on every notebook but the point is if you will get all drivers for it and Windows 7.
At the moment nobody can say what Toshiba notebooks will support Windows 7. I think we have to wait until the official driver release starts. This should be taking until Windows 7 will be released official because on Vista and XP it was the same.
In worst case you have to collect the drivers on external websites. Therefore you can search on the manufactures website of the chipset for example (Intel).

  • Satellite A100-626 - Maximum system memory supported?

    Hi,
I have a Satellite A100-626 with 2Gb of RAM memory.
As stated in specs for this model:
    standard : 1,024 (512+512) MB
    maximum expandability : 4,096 MB
    technology : DDR2 RAM (533 MHz)
    expansion module sizes : 256, 512, 1,024 MB
It says that it can go up to 4Gb, but only shows module sizes up to 1Gb. (maybe 2Gb modules didn't existed at the time).
Anyone knows or tested if it is possible to install 2 modules of 2Gb or 1 module of 4Gb to reach the maximum expandability of 4Gb?
Also, does it supports frequency's up to 800MHz? If not, whats the maximum value?
And at last, does DDR3 work on this model?
Thanks in advance for the replys.

    Hi
I found this Toshiba product page:
    [Satellite A100-626|http://pt.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=PT&DISC_MODEL=0 &ACTION=PRINT_WITH_BACK&BV_UseBVCookie=yes&PRODUCT _ID=119571]
Its a Portuguese Toshiba page because I believe that this notebook model was designed for Portuguese market.
There you can find a info that its possible to upgrade the RAM to 4GB (2 x 2Gb RAM).
But note; the 32bit Operating system will be not able to use the full 4GB RAM.
Just the 6bit OS can use and recognize the full 4GB
    > Also, does it supports frequency's up to 800MHz?
This depends on the chipset. If the chipset would allows the 800Mhz then the memory module would run at 800Mhz otherwise they would be clocked down.
    > And at last, does DDR3 work on this model?
No, as far as I know just DDR2 modules are supprted.

  • Installing Linux system on a Satellite A100

Hi - I am new to these forums so please be kind with my limited knowledge .  My partner has a satellite A100 laptop that has Windows XP installed on it.  Due to driver and upgrade probs - he now wishes to install a linux op system on it (Ubuntu).  When I try to install it gets to a certain point then freezes.  It appears the cd drive stops reading?  I have checked the cd driver, and also the installl disc and all ok.  I tried to install through windows but the same problem happened?  Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

  • Satellite A100-049 - CD ROM drive no longer found

My satellite A100-049 no longer sees my CD rom drive, It won't auto play any discs, and when I double click a shortcut to a program that uses a disc it says 'no cd-rom drive found'.
I've tried updating the driver but I already have the most up to date one. It was fine yesterday, before I installed Norton 360- I don't know if that has anything to do with it. My operating system is vista home premium.
I really need help quickly as I'm going to university in under 3 weeks and the cd rom drive is vital to my course.

    Hi Michael
Its very strange that your CD/DVD drive does not work longer after the Norton 360 installation. For me it looks like the Norton 360 has modified some registry keys and therefore the drive malfunctions.
I would recommend removing the CD/DVD drive from the device manager.
Then restart the notebook. After new reboot the windows OS should recognize the new hardware (CD/DVD drive) and should install it again.
Then start the registry and remove the upper and lower filter values from this registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    then reboot and test again!
Good luck and cheers dude ;)

  • Satellite A100-847 - upgrade advice

    Hello,
I'm using Satellite A100-847 (PSAA9E) for almost two years now. 2 year warranty period be over in month, so I guees it is good time for an upgrade. I could use more RAM and a faster HDD (for CAD purposes mostly when I'm on the run) so I would like to know more about it.
*What I already found out is that my notebook:*
(please say if I'm wrong with something)
    1) ...Can take 2 modules of So-DIMM DDR2; max 4GB; which means 2X2GB. I already have 2X512GB, and this is not enough.
    - The question is which DDR2 memory!? The FSB is running on 667 MHz, so I guess I should buy PC-5300/667 or even 6400/800?
    - Which is the best memory for my notebook? The one which doesn't heat up a lot!? Which model is cool enough?
    2) ...Has a Hitachi Travelstar 5K100, 2.5", 5400RPM, 8MB cache, 100GB SATA drive. Capacity is enough for me, but it is way too slow. So I guess I should for a 7200RPM 16MB cache drive.
    - The question here is does my notebook support SATA2 or is it just SATA1? Which shlould I buy?
    - Does my notebook support 7200RPM drive?
    - Will my notebook overheat with this drive?
    3) ...Could have a more efficient cooling system. Is there any solution to this?
    Thank you in advance,
    adambar

    Hello
Googling around Ive found follow information:
The computer has two SO DIMMs slot comes standard with DDRII 4200 module. It
supports PC2-4200 and uses SO DIMMs (DDRII SDRAM) driven at 1.8 V, accepting
BTO/CTO for your memory requirements. It can incorporate up to 4 GB of main
    memory.
Using the following sizes of memory modules:
    256 MB (16M168P)/533/667 MHZ
    512 MB (32M168P)/533/667 MHZ
    1024 MB (64Mx16x8P)/533/667 MHZ
If you want to use maximum RAM you must use two 2 GB. Toshiba recommends using
2 x 2 GB PA3513U-1M2G DDR2 RAM. Alternative to this RAM module are high quality Kingston memory modules.
About HDD I can say follow:
The HDD interface conforming to Serial ATA (for 40/60/80/100/120 GB).
The computer accommodates one 2.5-inch HDD with any of the following storage capacities:
    40 GB (9.5 mm thick) SATA (5,400rpm)
    60 GB (9.5 mm thick) SATA (5,400rpm/7200rpm)
    80 GB (9.5 mm thick) SATA (5,400rpm/7200rpm)
    100 GB (9.5 mm thick) SATA (5,400rpm/7200rpm)
    120 GB (9.5 mm thick) SATA (5400rpm)
As far as I know SATA2 is backward compatible and theoretically you can use it but I am not sure about that. If I were you I would by SATA1 HDD.
As you can see Toshiba has tested 7200rpm HDDs with this notebook model and you can use it too.
Overheat maybe not but I can imagine that plastic cover will be warmer than before. Be just sure the notebook is placed properly and nothing blocks cooling fan.
More efficient cooling system? I dont know what you mean exactly butt you can try something like this .

  • Recovery on a Satellite A100 (PSAA9) - Deleted partitions and XP Home not Pro

We recently had trouble with our laptop and decided to restore it back to manufacturer settings with the recovery Media CD. My son decided to do it and when he booted up the program he chose the Delete partitions option instead of overwrite.
Now it has completely formatted the HD removing the OS (Windows XP Pro).
When I bought the laptop it came with WXP Pro already installed and just has the Certification Sticker on the bottom of the laptop.
Is there anyway that I can receive a Windows XP Pro installation CD?

Generally all Satellite notebook models are delivered with WXP Home or Media Center Edition operating system. Toshiba has Satellite Pro series and under this name you can get WXP Pro operating system.
Can you tell us which model you have exactly A100-xxx?
If your notebook was in showroom by the dealer it is possible they have used own OS installation instead of delivered recovery media.

  • XD-bit (CPU feature) disabled/unavailable for Satellite A100-PSAA9

Last week I bought the notebook Toshiba Satellite A100-847 (Satellite A100-SPAA9) that has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, model T7200.
According to Intel specifications this processor (like all Core and Core 2 processors) has the XD-bit feature, known in Windows as DEP. I had the unpleasant surprise to find out that this feature is
reported by Windows as unavailable (in hardware). I understood from the electronic manual on the recovery CD (which is an older edition than the printed manual that comes in the package) that I can make this feature
available (for some older Satellite models) but I couldn't find any option in my BIOS to do this (my BIOS is made by Phoenix, version 2.0).
I really want to know how can I make this feature available/active as my processor supports it and so does the operating system bought together with the laptop and more than that, this feature is something beneficial - especially designed for security reasons and supported by all modern processors and operating systems.
Do I have to wait for an updated BIOS to include this option (to activate the XD bit feature) or to have it automaticaly set as active/available (instead of disabled/unavailable)?
I am expecting a well documented response from somebody who knows what I am talking about.
    Thank you very much.

First of all, Ive started this topic hoping that I can obtain a technical and to the point response, regarding exactly what I have asked. I do not wish for this thread to become a technical glossary, because any user that has the slightest notion of using Google or Wikipedia can easily find out what XD-bit, DEP and PAE mean (and those who dont already know what these mean cannot help me).
I am compelled to repeat myself: my problem addresses the technical personnel, who really understand and know what I am talking about; it is not addressed to the average Joe who likes to hear himself talking, but not to the point.
Secondly, anyone can find out that the Intel T7200 processor has the XD-bit feature just by searching on the
Intel site: he will only have to type the words T7200 specifications into the search box; but anyway, here is the link youve asked me for:
    http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sspec=sl9sf
Thirdly, my system has to support the XD-bit feature because:
    a) the operating system acquired together with the notebook is Windows XP SP2 Home Edition (so it is SP2 and yes it is in the PAE mode!)
    b) the mainboard and the Intel 945PM chipset support this feature it is the standard Intel NAPA platform (and, just for the record, the only difference between this notebook and another notebook I own is just the processor, which is Core Duo simple -Yonah-, not Core 2 Duo -Merom- as this Toshiba notebook has; and the other notebook has the XD-bit feature enabled and Windows uses it)
Ive also tried to install Windows XP SP2 Professional and I used diagnostic and information programs (e.g. Sisoftware Sandra) but with the same result: I am reported that the processor does not have the XD-bit feature or this feature is deactivated.
Taking into account that Intel has blessed this processor model with the XD-bit feature and Toshiba has used at its turn the omnipotent Intel 945PM chipset which has nothing against the XD-bit feature mentioned above it results that this feature has been deactivated most likely by BIOS.
Ive started the topic [hoping that this forum is visited by Toshiba technicians in order to find out the problems their clients/users encounter and to act accordingly by offering them their support.
PS: I am not mad, not at all; I do appreciate the interest shown in my problem, but I do not wish to accept/encourage useless and pointless discussions.
If you wish, we can have other discussions on hardware topics but not on this thread in which I only hope to obtain the solution to my problem (solution that can come by a possible update of the actual version of the BIOS present on the site).

    Hi Jon
According the notebook description you must be from Venezuela. Am I right? ;)
I really do not know if there is Toshiba some support page for South America but few guys from there have had the same problem like you. I can not say for sure if you can use BIOS update from US support site. I recommend you to call Authorized service partner in your country. They work with this stuff and I am 100% sure they will be able to give you right info.
The addresses and phone numbers you can find under http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_gaspLocator.jsp?pf=true
    Bye and good luck!
