  • DR system for NW MS-SQL 2005

    Hi experts,
We are planning to implement a production with a DR system. The DR system located at remote site will be a standby machine for the production system on MSSQL 2005 win 2008. Both of these severs able to ping each other via WAN and having the same specs.
Both the Production and DR system is NW 7.0 with ABAP + JAVA (XI & EP) and we are planning to install with same SID.
The DR system will be install using system copy. On the regular update from Production to DR, we are planning to use MSSQL Log Shipping method.
    1) Log shipping has taken care the MSSQL 2005 part. However, we are not sure on the Java part transfer from the production to the DR? How is normally done.
    2) The production server has a local hard disk and external storage(san). The db files will be installed on external storage and Windows on local hd. Where is SAP applications normally installed, local hard disk or external storage (san). What is the advantage and disadvantage for installing in local and external?
Appreaciate any help on this and if you could guide me to some documents specifically related to the above.
Any precaution when do the installation to take note.
    Thanks in advance.
    kb

    Hi KB,
I can share my experience and i hope that would help you in building DR setup
Assumming you have both Production & DR systems builded. In brief, we have OS level scheduled tasks to copy the content of our \usr\sap directory content into DR systems at regular intervals. And below are the no of schedule task that you need...
    1. Ensure your SAN based disk content are in sync, In our setup we ensure both DB & CI content is stored in SAN based disk and are in sync all the time (using the concept of establish/split of EMC SAN)
    2. Ensure, you all the required Profiles (that are specific to DR system host names) are in place.
    3. create a schedule taks, for copying all DLLs of OS directory (winnt)
    4. create a schedule task, for copying your DI instance \usr\sap content
    5. create all environment variables
    6. When you want to fail-over (PROD->DR), ABAP stack of system would come online provided DB & it's coresponding \sa\<SID> and profiles content in place.
    7. For JAVA based instance you need to reform ConfigTool changes, wherein you modify the DB Connection specific settings and Instance Properties such that your DR system ConfigTool contains the DR system hostnames rather Production (because the \usr\sap & DB content is from Production system copied over to DR)
All these above mentioned scheduled tasks to copy the content of Production System over DR system is using ROBOCOPY of windows command line utility. so you need completely knowledge of ROBOCOPY to prepare those scripts such that expected content is copied over to DR systems.
My only intention was to give some glance overview of preparing DR systems prior to DR activation and while DR activation. Beyond this scope of explaination certainly not that i can share in this forum.
I hope  this helps in startup with your preparation.

  • How to find the user who never logon R3 system since system golive.

    Hi everyone,
Our R3 system golive on 2005.Due to some reasons,we need to find out the users who never logon R3 system since system go live and want to delete it.Those large numbers of unvalued users has been created because of imprecise estimation before golive. So for now,we willing to remove those users by using some kind of method.and you know, the number of unvalued user are immense,so it's impossible to identify this kind of user by using T-code su01 one by one.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi rong,
Run report RSUSR006. One of the criterias is "Users with Initial Password"

  • SQL 2005 SAP R/3 4.6C - DBSL error RC=99 on import of Basis 4.6C SP 39

    Hi,
I have just built a R/3 4.6C system on SQL 2005 with 4.6D_EXT kernel. The build was done using R3load to export from the 4.6C/SQL 2000/32bit system and import to 4.6C/SQL 2005/64bit system. The source 4.6C system only had Basis support package 37 applied, and I am trying to apply Basis 4.6C 38-57 on the 4.6C/SQL 2005/64bit system (in preparation for an ECC6 upgrade) and I get the following error:

I have checked the collation setting in SQL 2005 and it is:
    select serverproperty('collation')
    SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2
There are 97000 odd entries in DOKIL, so I don't think that is the problem.

    Hi ,
Instead of doing the build with export import, you can try to do the same with backup restore,,
But remember your sql2000 should be on bin2... then you can take backup and restore.
Since it is from 2000 to 2005 the restore would happen and it will work fine.
Try this and check out, since the error you have pasted is not clearly giving any picture...

  • DB02 running very slowly after SQL 2005 Upgrade!

    Hi All
I have reciently upgraded our DEV ECC6 system to SQL 2005 and everything seemed ok - no problems really! However when we run DB02, to retrieve DB information it is taking about 4 to 5 mins to appear. This is obviously not good!
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so is there something that needs to be done?
    Thanks
    Phil

    Hi Phil,
Have you ensure that all the standard background job as per note 16083?

  • ERP 2005 syntax check

We recently upgraded a sandbox system to ERP 2005 from 4.6C.
    We have unicode turned off.
Even with unicode turned off - we are finding that there are some of our custom programs that now have syntax errors.
For example - in a function module the 'top' include cannot have any code in it
It can only have data declarations.
We are wanting to find these errors so that we can correct them before we upgrade our development box.
We have tried SGEN - but it doesn't appear to find any syntax errors.
It just regenerates what is already there.
Is there a way to find syntax errors in all of our custom written code?
    Thanks
    Scott

we found that code inspector (transaction sci) will do this.
    Thanks.

  • Reconnect of a R/3 source system afer a BW system copy

We want to copy our BW 3.0b development system as a BW sandbox system in order to try out the BW 3.5 migration.
Therefore, we performed a system copy of our BW DEV system to a new machine. On the BW-side we ran BDLS to get a new logical name for the system and defined a RFC connection to our R/3 Dev Source System (incl. appropriate RFC users).
On the R/3 side we also defined an additional RFC connection to the "new - just copied" BW-system.
While trying to reconnect our R/3 Devopment source system within the new BW we encountered the problem that the R/3 system recognized that there already exists a connection to a BW (the old BW dev). If we take this option, the old connection is deleted and a new one is defined. However, from the R/3 perspective we want two BWs connected. It seems the problem has to do with the IDOCs and TRFC port definitions, because the IDOC type ZRSBW010 seems to point to the wrong system.
Unfortunately, we are stuck at the moment.
Any kind of help or hints to relevant SAP documents would be much appreciated.
In the OSS we found some notes on this topic (325525 etc.) but we still not sure how to proceed.
However, in general, we think it shouldn't be a problem to have one R/3 connected to several BW's or is it?
Frank Schülke, E.ON Ruhrgas IT, Germany

We worked out this scenario.  Our solution came with an interpretaion of SAP documentation including SAP Note 886102, obsolete (but informative) SAP Note 184754, and the document How to... System Copy in SAP Business Intelligence System Landscapes - May 2005.
    Basically the steps are...
-Using the BW transport collector in the source BW system, collect, release, and export all objects related to the R/3 source system.
-Perform the system copy of the source BW system to the target BW system.
-Change SM59 destinations in the target BW system to the R/3 source systems to invalid hostnames.
-Delete the R/3 source system definitions from the target BW system (the nonsensical hostnames in SM59 ensure you will not make any changes in the actual R/3 source systems).
-Use BDLS to change the logical system in your target BW system.
-Recreate the R/3 source system definitions in the target BW system, this step will make corresponding config for the target BW system in the R/3 source system.  It is important here to activate and replicate.
-Ensure that table RSLOGSYSMAP has the correct entries for your R/3 source systems
-Import the objects you collected in the first step into your target BW system.

  • Add-On Removal/Downgrade - PI_BASIS in CRM 5.0 system

    Hello,
Following is an issue I am trying get brainstormed:
    1. There was an error in the system
    2. Proposed solution was to upgrade PI_BASIS component from 2005_1_700 patch level 9 to 2006_1_700 patch level 9
    3. PI_BASIS was upgraded upto 2006_1_700 patch level 8
    4. Patch level 9 would trigger many other activities of fullfilling pre-reqs and upgrading other components, so PI_BASIS wasn't brought upto Patch level 9
    5. Now, the proposed solution changed to apply a correction transport attached with a Note instead because Patch Level 9 wasn't possible.
    6. Now, having upgraded PI_BASIS to 2006 version with Patch Level 8 already added many additional activities in a Live environment and they have to be avoided
    7. Solution being downgrade PI_BASIS from 2006 version to original 2005 version
    8. In order to carry out the above change, either delete 2006 version from the system and install 2005 version OR perform a downgrade directly from 2006_1_700 patch level 8 to 2005_1_700 patch level 9
    The Questions:
    1. Is #8 above possible at all?
    2. Does anyone know how to perform either of the 'Remove an Add-On' and/or 'Downgrade an Add-On'?
    Any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks for your time and support.
    Regards,
    Shival

    1. Is above possible at all?
    Simple answer, No.
    2. Does anyone know how to perform either of the 'Remove an Add-On' and/or 'Downgrade an Add-On'?
As far as I know is not possible... you'll have to restore from backup.

  • Webservice system creation

    Hi,
We have recently installed a EP7SP10 system on SQL 2005. We are unable to create a WSDL system on this system and always get the error as
<u>Connection failed. Make sure user mapping is set correctly and all connection properties are correct</u>. I am sure of the user mapping as when i pass the WSDL in a browser the user id i pass is authenticated and i can see the xml on my browser window. Any pointers on this problem will be of great help.

  • Planning DRP or BCP for JAVA based systems

    Hello gurus,
I would like to acquire some information on BCP / DRP (Disaster Recovery planning) for systems that
based on JAVA (EP, XI, BI end etc). The regular DRP for ECC we use log shipping of SQL server.
But on JAVA systems there are local files too that are changed ... so ... how do we copy and what exactly ...

    Dear Sean,
thanks for the advice but I'm looking forward to find a solution on application level like log shipping and etc. I'm trying to understand what physical files should I transfer to the DRP site of the J2EE engine.

  • System copy from SQL2000 to SQL2005

    Hello All,
We are trying to perform a homogenous system copy. Our source system is SQL 2000 and the target system is SQL 2005. We followed the normal attach/detach procedure and ran the STM tool for the database copy. After bringing SAP online, it gives an consistency check error in SICK - "Wrong long datatypes. Perform SQL2005 after upgrade steps. Please see note 126973."
This note in turn refers to note 799058 which describes the procedure of upgrading to SQL 2005 and homogenous system copy. But we have already done that. Can somebody please help me on this and let me know what I am missing.
    Thanks,
    Fahad

    Hi,
SICK generally gives error for Kernel issues. Perform a kernel upgrade.
Do not forget to download the latest DB dependent files for MSSQL 2005
And let us know how it goes.

  • High CPU utilization with SQL Server 2005

Our company recently combined our DBs into one SQL 2005 Server.
Dell Power Edge 1800 with 3.00 GHz Xeon Processor 800 FSB, 1 GB of RAM
Dell Power Edge 1600 with 2.80 GHz Xeon Processor 533 FSB, 1 GB of RAM
    Combined into one:
Dell Power Edge 2950 Dual Core 1.6 GHz Xeon Woodcrest Processor, 4 GB of RAM
However, the CPU utilization on this new server is maintaining at about 90% with 3.82 GB of RAM used as well.  It's a Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 edition running SQL Server 2005 SP2 x64.  I have searched around Microsoft's website for any information that could be of help to me, but I was unable to locate anything.  I was hoping that someone could provide some insight as to why this might be occuring.  Or if this is a known issue.
    Thanks,
    Peter

    Hello!
Here are some steps to take after upgrading your SQL Server from 2K to 2K5. (This quote is from BOL)
After upgrading the Database Engine to SQL Server 2005, complete the following tasks:
Register your servers - Upgrade removes registry settings for the previous SQL Server instance. After upgrading, you must reregister your servers.
Repopulate full-text catalogs - The upgrade process marks your databases as full-text disabled. Catalogs must be repopulated, but this operation is not run automatically by Setup because it can be time-consuming. As this operation enhances the performance of your SQL Server 2005 installation, administrators should plan to repopulate full-text catalogs at a convenient time.
Update statistics - To help optimize query performance, we recommend that you update statistics on all databases following upgrade. Use the sp_updatestats stored procedure to update statistics in user-defined tables in SQL Server 2005 databases.
Update usage counters - In earlier versions of SQL Server, the values for the table and index row counts and page counts can become incorrect. To correct any invalid row or page counts, we recommend that you run DBCC UPDATEUSAGE on all databases following upgrade.
Configure your new SQL Server installation - To reduce the attackable surface area of a system, SQL Server 2005 selectively installs and activates key services and features. For more information on how to activate SQL Server 2005 features, see SQL Server Surface Area Configuration.

  • SQL 2000 - 2005 Upgrade - Windows IA64

    Hello
We are shortly to upgrade our test systems to SQL 2005 for Itanium systems.
We propose to use method number II in Note 799058 - "II  UPGRADE FROM MS SQL SERVER 2000 to MS SQL SERVER 2005"
The SAP components are all WAS 7.0 with Support Pack Stack 07.
Does anyone in the community have information regarding the run time of the upgrade and/or any problems?
    Thanks

    Hello Maria,
In reply to your post and your email:
The process to perform the migration you describe is relatively easy. While note 799058 is relevant, you should first have a look at the System Copy Guide, which applies to your system. These guides can be found on SAP Service Marketplace:
    “Release & Upgrade Info” &#61664; “Installation & Upgrade Guides” &#61664; “SAP NetWeaver” &#61664; “SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s)”
Click on “Installation”, a new window opens. Check section “Installation - SAP NetWeaver Systems”
You will see links to system copy guides for Service Release1 and Service Release 2, and separate entries for ABAP only systems, Java only systems and double stacks.
For example: the SR2 guide for ABAPJava has the title: System Copy for SAP - Systems Based on SAP - NetWeaver 7.0 SR2 - ABAPJava”
Each of this guides has a brief chapter on copying a MSSQL database. Please carefully read the guide and the SAP notes it refers to. The overall procedure for an ABAP only system will look like this:
    1. Apply note 600027 (change SQL Server collation) to your existing SQL2000 database. You HAVE to perform this step before moving the database to the new hardware.
    2. Prepare your new servers (Windows, SQL2005 installation following the SAP guidance on collation et cetera).
    3. Detach the SQL2000 database from your old system, copy the datafiles to the new machine and attach the database to the new SQL2005 server.
    4. Follow the system copy guide and run sapinst to install the SAP central instance and configure the database.
Copying the Java stack is a little bit complicated, because you have to create an export of your Java data on your old system first. This is explained in great detail in the system copy guide.
    Best regards,
    Christian
