System Services - On/Off

Good afternoon all,
UK 4s 32GB, Vodafone, SIM-FREE (bought from Apple shop) user, looking to turn off battery drainng, non-useful services.
Current system services set-up:
Compass Calibraton - ON
Diagnostics & Usage - OFF
Location-Based iAds - OFF
Mobile Newtwork Ser - ON
Setting Time Zone - ON
Traffic - ON
From a UK perspective will any of the above effective apps, whould some be left on, can all be turned off?
I have experimented several times but unless I am in an app that uses them I will never know?! (needle in a haystack) comes to mind.
Searched/Googled for an overview of these services but to no joy. Could someone from Apple explain please
Many thanks

no one from Apple responnds to these forums - we are just users like you - there was a lot of discussion when 5.0.1 came out about how turning some of thise services off improved battery usaage - dont know if is still important in 5.1
I have 2,3 and 5 off - i dont know waht 4 is - it doesnt show up on my iPhone so it may be carrier specific

How do I turn off the Genius app in App Store. I've gone to Settings/Privacy/Location Services/System Services then swiped Genius for apps 'off''. Also, I've gone to Settings/ITunes and App Stores/Click on AppleID/View Apple ID and then turn off Genius. Still nothing has worked. I'm still stuck with Genius offering the same apps to me. Mind you, once I click on the App Store there is nothing I can do but swipe left and right. There's absolutely nothing at the bottom of the screen like a features tab, nothing. There is, however, a categories button at the top, but that's it. Irrelevant.

FWIW, I just got off the phone with Apple technical support about this.  I use Genuis for creating playlists, so I don't want to disable it, but Apple support confirmed that there is no way to avoid syncing Genius data without disabling Genius altogether.  I'd read somewhere else that subscribing to iTunes Match might allow you to avoid this, but that is NOT the case, as I've confirmed, and Apple support has confirmed.  For me, it routinely syncs thousands genius of items, so I have to allow a lot of time for my manual syncs.

  • What is wi-fi networking under location in system services? Is it necessary or can I turn it off?

What is wi-fi networking under location in system services? Is it necessary or can I turn it off? What is it's purpose?

Wi-Fi Networking - Finds nearby Wi-Fi networks and sends information about them to Apple to help the company build a database of open Wi-Fi networks. This helps provide a location when GPS is not available (as on a WiFi-only iPad).

  • Will "Find My Ipod" work if system services are turned off?

On IOS 7, If I turn off all the System Services in the Location Services will the Find My Ipod feature still work?

If location services is off FindMyiPhone will not show the iPod's location.
You still be able to wipe /erase it and have it play a sound and send a message to the iPod unless it shows as off-line.

  • Getting an error message when trying to reinstall iTunes - 'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start the system services.

After a recent iTunes update my iTunes failed to start. I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it again, but during installation an error message pops up saying: 'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start the system services. The three option buttons which can be clicked are 'Abort', 'Retry' and 'Ignore'. I tried pressing ignore, which allowed iTunes to install. However, it seemed that not all parts off the programme installed, as it wouldn't allow me to open iTunes again. Whenever I press retry it just makes the same message pop up again. How can I show that I have 'sufficient privileges'?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

Please cansomeone help

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
Regarding AMDS failures there is a hint in another thread that disabling the Windows Firewall before attempting to reinstall may help, otherwise take a look at the steps outlined in this post. Re: Can't install iTunes 12.1 on Windows 7 64-bit. I know they look a little daunting, but the process of generating the logs themselves isn't that hard to do. Extracting useful information from them is still a challenge but maybe something will leap out. If you want to post the log for the failed components for me to have a look at here or in the other thread please edit out any personal information, particularly your email address, first.

  • When I click on "System services" it just stays highlighted and have to close the settings down

I have been have problems with my Iphone5S battery life recently, I have followed the steps to save as much battery life as possible and I went to a genius bar as I thought the battery may be on its way out but they ran tests and told me its still a healthy battery, in the 90% mark and anything over 80% is good especially when I have had over 500 charges. They told me software errors and crashes have occured a lot and to complete a fresh install of IOS which I'm hoping i factory settings, which I have just completed yesterday and so the software is completely new. I have found that the battery has already decreased by 10% in 20 minutes without hardly any use, I wanted to go to system services and turn off certain services and it just freezes on this title when clicked on and I have to close the setttings app down double tapping the home button. Has anyone else noticed this issue and does anyone reccomend any advice, do I need a new battery etc?
    thankyou

    UPDATE
I have solved the settings issue so the main issue is have I reset the phone correctly and should I replace my battery? thanks

  • What exactly is "Wifi Networking" in System Services?

Does anyone know what "wifi networking" is in System Services? Can I turn it off without any negative effects? Thanks in advance.

i think it is probably used to find your location with better accuracy when you are using a map or navigation applications while connectedto your  wifi,(rem when you open a map,it will ask you to connect to wifi for better location accuracy).

  • System service using all CPU w/XP SP1

I have a K7N420Pro and after I install XP SP1 the system service uses all available CPU cycles.  If I check the task manager my CPU usage is at 100%!! has anybody else seen this?
By the way, It is the system service not the system idle process.
    System specs:
    K7N420Pro
    Athlon XP 1900
    1.5 GB Ram (3x 512 MB)
    2.6 BIOS

I pulled EVERYTHING off the MB. Floppy, CD/DVD drives all the memory except one stick, I even disconnected the USB and diagnostic leds.  That didn't work.  Then I realized that the small sound card addon wasn't actually part of the MB even though it came with it.  I powered down and pulled the CNR Sound MAX card and when I rebooted it found some additional sound hardware and the system service was back to no CPU usage.  I then shut down and readded the CNR card and when I powered on the system it was still fine.  I now have to reconnect all the rest of the stuff I removed and make sure it is still fine but it looks good so far.
Well, It's not fine.  When I rebooted the problem was back.  I will now pull everything off again and then add it back one piece at a time. :(
    OK
Now I finally know what the problem is.
I had both of the additional USB connections filled.  One from the diagnostic thing and the other from the front of my case.  Well I guess that the cables from my case are bad since when they are connected my problem is there but it goes away when I remove them.  I can definitely live with just 4 USB ports.  I only have 3 USB devices right now and if I ever get more I can just add a USB hub.

  • "iTunes Accounts" System Service just used 1.1 GB of cellular data in 14 hours!

Ttitle sums it up. 14 hours ago I activated my new iPhone 6 on T-Mobile, porting my number from AT&T. In this time, even though my phone has been on WiFi for over half of it, the "iTunes Accounts" System Service (Settings>Cellular>System Services) has used 1.1 GB of data. As far as I can tell, after searching extensively, this appears to be a record. Something is broken here, no?
On my 5S (or 5, or 4S, or 4, or 3GS, etc... you get the idea) I averaged less than 1 GB of total cellular data usage per month.
Anyone have any clue what's going on here?

Following up... My carrier confirmed that this usage occurred within a 3 hour window, so it's even worse.
I spoke with a Senior Advisor at Apple. You could literally hear the guy shuffling papers and mashing his keyboard. He had no clue what the iTunes Accounts system service actually is. He guessed at about 5 different things that are iTunes related (like Match - which I haven't used since switching phones), but none of his guesses could explain why 1.1 GB of data would be used in 3 hours. 1.1 GB would be like playing music off of Match for around 19 hours straight (assuming 128 Kb/s).
I had to have been the victim of some sort of server side error on Apple's part. Something that probably only takes a few MBs to resolve, like my Match database (names of artists, albums, etc), probably got pushed a few hundred times. I can't think of any other explanation.
Still open to ideas and hoping this isn't a every day occurrence.

  • Can someone hack into my MacBook Pro even it's not connected to the internet and both Wi-fi and Bluetooth services are off?

    Hi,
Need to know if someone can hack into my MacBook Pro even if it's not connected to the internet and both Wi-fi and Bluetooth services are off? Can someone enter my system even if the settings at System Preferences > Sharing are all off?

    Yes,
Through Bonjour, Apple's open source zero configuration networking.
    https://developer.apple.com/bonjour/
    http://flylib.com/books/en/2.434.1.105/1/
And you can't turn it off or your computer won't work, however saving grace is the hacker has to be pretty close to your machine to do it.

  • Wi-Fi Networking in Location Services System Services

    Hello,
I'm trying to figure out what the "Wi-Fi Networking" toggle controls.  This is located withing Settings > Location Services > System Services > Wi-Fi Networking.
Thanks for the help if anyone can provide any.  I've been searching around the web and can't find an answer on this one.

I would like a clarification of this too. This aritlce is unhelpful on the point: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5594?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US The new user manual iBooks for iPad and iPhone are also not detailed enough to discuss this setting.
Pappasbike, where did you find that reference?
From what you've said, and a little more searching, I suspect the setting may be related to the new Hotspot 2.0 ("Passpoint") initiative:
    http://arstechnica.com/apple/2013/06/ios-7-will-hop-from-one-wi-fi-hotspot-to-an other-no-password-needed/
    http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/06/11/ios-7-beta-hotspot-20-support-will-lea d-to-hassle-free-wi-fi-access
"Wi-Fi HotSpot 2.0: One of the more-technical terms on iOS 7’s additional features slide, Wi-Fi HotSpot 2.0 automatically seeks out Wi-Fi subscriber services (for instance, AT&T’s hotspot network for an AT&T iPhone subscriber) and joins them when you’re in the area. In theory, this feature should provide you with faster Internet access and fewer bandwidth constraints.": http://www.macworld.com/article/2041306/27-new-ios-7-features-apple-didnt-talk-a bout.html
So, if I'm right, the setting is related to Apple building a crowd-sourced database of HotSpot 2.0/Passpoint access points/locations. Since I'm not liking the battery drain of iOS 7 as it is, this is staying off for me for now.
