Systems Machine and Model Number. Any permanent solution ?

Like many purchasers of refurbished ThinkPads, I find my Machine (2007) and Model (WUK) was not registered into the Systems Board by the technician during refurbishment. The result is that ThinkVantage Tool " Update and Drivers" cannot recognize this ThinkPad, therefore no updates resulting "Error 75".
Solving this issue by renaming the HKEY (TP-79__ which is incorrect) to "2007WUK", but this is only temporary, it reverts back to TP-79__ after reboot which basically defeats Schedule Updates. To be able to input the Machine and Model Number into the Systems Board, it is necessary to use System Machine Maintenance Disc which is not readily available to us Users, Software download was also withdrawn from Lenovo Site.
It is inconvenient to edit the Registry every time in order to check updates, therefore I feel Lenovo is denying us full accessibility to the product they are selling.
Question:- Is there a solution to fix this issue to permanently register the machine and model number into the system without sending the product back to Maintenance/Repairs ?
Or is this a necessity due to company procedure for extra revenue ?

Lenovo doesn’t release a whole lot of updates, especially for the older models. So you might be able to just bypass the limitation by bookmarking the downloads and drivers page for your specific machine, and checking back for new updates once a month or so.
Definitely not a ‘true’ solution, but it’s one way to ensure that you’re getting the updates you need without having to dig deeper into the system.

Okay, I did my best searching and I couldn't find anything that matched all your descriptors. I did do a search on both decoder numbers. SB0256 returned very little results, but with SB0466, I was able to find this ebay listing:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...6_fvi%3D&_rdc=
This card isn't a Champion like you suggested. And with my complete lack of knowledge, I don't know what I/O dri've bay means. But since it is PCI and the decoder matches the number you gave me, this card should be adequete, right?
Whether it works or not, my search indicated it might be very hard for me to find that card (or any PCI card for that matter). Everything I saw was out of stock. I know this is a forum for Creative, but are there any other manufacturers that will allow me to accomplish my goal, either with current cards, or discontinued cards? Thanks again
Oh, and I will vote on that thread. I probably won't wait for them to release the decoder since I need it now, but I still believe Creative should be giving the customer what they want

  • IPad (4th Gen Retina Display Wi-Fi) (iOS 7.0.4) won't sync new music from iTunes (Windows).  Only solution found was to uncheck "Sync Music" under Music tab, apply, then recheck "Sync Music" and apply. Any other solution?

iPad (Retina Display) (iOS 7.0.4) won't sync new music from iTunes (Windows).  Only solution found was to uncheck "Sync Music" under Music tab, apply, then recheck "Sync Music" and apply.  This is timely and aggravating.  Any other solution?
I have also tried a hard reset.  I have also gone into settings and checked "display all music".
Anyone know if the new update will have solutions to this problem?

    Successful experience with Apple Care.
If anyone is having the same problem, there's a chance it's an issue with the Mobile Device Manager for iTunes. The key is to ditch the old/corrupt file and replace it via clean iTunes installation.
Here's the fix that worked for me:
    1. Trash iTunes (uninstall); don't forget to trash it from your dock if you have it there.
    2. Head to /System/Library/Extensions/ and trash file AppleMobileDevice.kext
    3. Head to /Library/Receipts/ and trash AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg  ( * this may or may not be there * )
    4. Restart computer (& empty trash)
    5. Download fresh & clean iTunes and reinstall.
Voila! The content is now properly recognized by iTunes, the capacity bar registers the correct amount and type beyond "Other", and now I can put music back on the iPad.

  • MBP 15.4" Display manufacturer and model number

Does anyone happen to know what the manufacturer and model number happen to be for the LCD modules in the 15.4" MacBook Pro might be? Perhaps a curious Apple Certified Technician has taken a peak during a repair...
    MacBook Pro 15.4"

Ok, here's an update: The Samsung module is the LN154X7. Found a picture of the sticker on the back of a module. Chi Mei has one module listed on their website that seems to match, because of size, resolution, color support and viewing angles: N154C1. Can anyone verify that this is the counterpart to the Samsung?

  • Quicktime Error -120  Any permanent solution?

Has anyone found a permanent solution for this error? We are encoding HD 1080i to H264s via a droplet. The -120 error does not happen every time we encode. We are getting tired of resetting the background process in Compressor. We are getting this on only one of three Macs...

A superficial search indicates negative. But I've never enountered the error myself.

Then it's not a software problem. It must be related to your media or your hardware.

Why are you resetting background processes for Compressor?
Isolating the problem to one machine indicates clearly it's not a Compressor problem or it would be present on each of your machines and we would be seeing this topic much more often.
Simple but tedious binary tests are required to debug this. You start with a project that returns the error and move it to another machine. If it doesn't error out, the problem lies on the first machine. If you bring a known good project from Machine 2 to Machine 1 and Machine 1 errors out, you know it's the machine. But you don't know what on the machine is causing the problem. Now you start looking for likely causes starting with drives.

  • How to I find the system make and model, etc. on this computer?

where can I find the information on my Mac computer?

There are Support pages that do show where to locate serial numbers
and other information, depending on which product you have, different
pages exist to direct you to find more hardware model information.
To correctly identify the computer build type model series year etc.
would be helpful if you randomly ask a question about a 'computer'.
    Desktop:
•How to identify iMac models - Apple Support
•How to identify Mac Pro models - Apple Support
•How to identify Mac mini models - Apple Support
    Portable:

You could also use a serial number lookup service online, if you found
the serial number on a computer that does not run, then you may be
able to learn more about the hardware &/or software it shipped with.
    Here's an example of an online lookup service, by serial number;
which can supply more details than lookup by model number...
The model numbers may cover a wide range of years with less
detail for your specific computer build model identifier series.

  • My ProBook Is Unable To Detect It's Serial and Model Number

As you can see in the picture, There are some dots instead of the product name. When I bought my PC I was able to find the model and product serial. My HP Support Assistant was also able to detect them automatically, but since some days I see these dots, I don't know why this happened. No auto detect app can now detect my PC model and Serial. Is there any way to fix it? My warranty period is over and the service center is far away from here, so if possible give me a solution that I myself can give a try! P.S. I Have A Good Idea About PCs, So Even If The Solutions Difficulty Level Is Advanced Please Do Share! Thanks In Advance

Yes, It's missing, and I guess the data is deleted from the whole system somehow

  • Upgraded to Mavericks, Enter Time Machine and cannot see any previous backup at all

MBP, upgrade from 10.6.8 to Mavericks.
After "Enter Time Machine", the time line on the right side of the screen does not show any previous backup at all.
In Finder, I can see the backup folder and the inside contents.
In Time Machine Preference, I did select the disk for backup again.
    Any idea ?  Thank you.

Thank you for your reply and the links.
    I did this:
    1) I have two ext. USB drives for the MBP time machine backup, did not occur to me to try the other one which is the very first disk, let's call it disk 1, I used for backup, the other one I started using after a year or so.
    2) reboot with the disk 1 connected
    3) do a "Backup Now", and I forgot the exact dialogs and what they say.
    4) something like, "choose a disk for the backup", I chose disk 1
    5) it knows I had two disk for backup and ask me if I want to use two disk for backup, click yes
    6) the time machine pref. says something like initial backup (after new system installed?)
    7) after it done, I can see the previous time machine back up and the time line goes back to where it was before.
    8) connect the disk 2 and "Backup Now", it just went to backup right away, after it's done, I can see the prev. backups and the time line too.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • What is the difference between model number FC769LL/A and model number  MC769LL/A? Both are iPad 2 16g models.

I Bought twomipads 2's and it seems they are supposed to have to same specs but it seems like the mc model is charging and running faster. I'm just curious why thenmedel number difference.

The first one is a refurbished product or special order. They're otherwise exactly the same.

does anyone have experience with what brand dvd-r's work with this burner. i went through a tough time on my windows machine finding the correct type with my sony dru-500a and wanted to see what experiences you all have had. thanks

  • Panasonic link2cell home phone system - opinions and voicemail number?

I recently bought a Panasonic KX-TG742 link2cell home phone so that I can receive my cellphone calls on standard handsets around the house.
It's a bit clunky, but it does work, including the Talking Caller ID (once the phonebook is filled in).
Has anyone had any experience with this system?  Could I replace my landline with this system without too much hassle or loss of quality?
Also:  I am supposed to insert the phone number to call to reach my cellphone voicemail, but have not been able to find it? Anyone know how to do this?  Thanks

Yes, you are right 1.9GHz range should not interfere with the router as your router works on 2.4GHz Frequency...however, if there is any interference you should place your phone furthur away from your router...

  • Any temporary solutions to the washed out colors issue?

**Note: I posted this in the Boot Camp forum, but I received no response. So, I'll give this forum a try.**
I have a question about Windows XP and washed out colors on the display. I hear that there are some display driver issues with the new unibody MacBook Pros when using either XP or Vista on a Boot Camp partition. Just to be clear, when I say "washed out colors", I mean to say that the colors have a blue-ish, faded look to them. I know that this issue lies with the type of color gamma (or whatever it's called) that Windows uses versus what Mac OS X uses. So, now for the 2 main questions I want to ask:
1)Is there any permanent solution to this weird color problem?
    And, if not, then:
2)Is there any temporary solution, such as maybe a program that can apply a color profile for you? For example, I read on another forum that programs like LUT Manager (http://www.exactscan.com/lutmanager/) can help apply an .icc color profile that you have in Mac OS X and apply it to Windows (you can even have it apply it automatically when you start up Windows). Do any of you know something that might be even better?
Also, how do you make an ICC color profile in Mac OS X without actually applying it?

Does anyone even know what I'm talking about? I'll be glad to elaborate further if necessary...
