T-400 with Windows 7 Wont Boot

T-400 Thinkpad with Windows 7 64 Bit suddenly wont boot.  No changes were made to the system.  Turned it on got message "Windows was unable to start".  Choose "Start Normally" or "Repair Mode".  Neither option will work.  I got a Windows 7 Home Edition 64 Bit dvd and tried to start Windows from the DVD.  After choosing the prompt to boot from cd/dvd the Windows splash screen shows up with Starting Windows, but will go no further.    Any suggestions?

Do you have another hard drive that you can try?

I have problems with Windows 10 boot on my HP 250 G3. It often shutdown during boot. But boot is ok with Windows 8.1. Please release upgrade that solve this problem.

Guys this might be solution: Turn off your laptop. Disconnect all devices connected to the PC. Remove battery and disconnect from wall. Press the power button at least 20 seconds. It should be fixed by now, I did with my Pavilion 14, and both sleep and turning off problems were fixed.re:  Black Screen and Dead keyboard after locking computer. I tried this with my Envy 17t-3200 3D CTO.  Didn't help.  for this computer this means removing the back cover and unplugging the battery wiring harness form the Motherboard. I currently have sleep mode disabled when on AC and am still getting the black screen, dead keyboard lockup.  I really know I'm hosed since even the caps-lock is non-functional. I see this problem more when I'm at work were I tend to Win-L lock the screen when I walk away from my desk.  Seems like locking the computer then letting the screen blank is doing something evil. After I force a reboot, by keyboard backlight forgets it's setitngs and returns to full brightness. If I lock the screen then bring back the computer before the screen is blanked, it seems fine. I don't think there's any way to adjust the screen blanking when the lock screen is up (even my desktop power-saves the monitors after a few minutes on the Lock screen). I'm not sure it's HP or MS that should be looking into this.  My computer is about 3 years old so I can't pester HP with warranty requests. I'm not sure how prevelant this problem is. Are all Pavellions and Envy's having the problem?  Mine has Radeon graphics which was a bit unusual at the time.  I have to install the HP Display driver before any AMD updates or the screen dimming doesn't work (at least with win 7 and 8). Dave.

  • Simple UEFI GPT Dual boot with windows 8 boot partition question.

    Hi everyone,
I think it's obvious from the quuestion that I'm a newbie here (and from the location of the post) but I have read (several times):
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UEFI
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UEFI_Bootloaders
    and the incredibly helpful:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginner%27s_Guide
along with many forum posts. unfortunately this:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi … _Dual_Boot
appears out of date and so I need to ask you fine people my question.
If I want to dual boot Arch with my Windows 8 my question is on the boot partition. I have an existing windows EFI boot partition. should I mount this partition to my "/mnt/boot/efi" folder and then copy the files to this partition when I am setting up rEFInd (my chosen bootloader from wiki page, comments/suggestions are welcome) or should I setup a separate boot partition for my arch installation. I assume from reading about rEFInd that the former is how I should do it as this seems to be how refind would be able to "see" my windows bootloader.
The reason I am double checking and asking here is I know that windows can be a temperamental beast and is very prone to not booting so I don't want to mess with the windows boot partition unduly.
Thanks in advance guys, looking forward to getting my arch working!

    $esp = EFI System Partition?
also, ok, gummiboot, I'm glad I can mount the esp as /boot (that was my original thought but reread the tutorial and wasn't sure) just double checking, it is the esp created by windows 8 that I mount?
in addition, as I am slightly new to this is there any tutorial that can tell me how to set up gummiboot? I've looked here:
    http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/gummiboot
but don't see anything in the way of detailed instructions.
    from your post: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=159061
I'm gonna guess it's something like this (please let me know if this is right)
    /mount $ESP /mnt/boot
    pacman -S gummiboot
    (after chrooting)
    //exit chroot
    gummiboot
*stuff saying gummiboot is not configured*
    gummiboot install
is it something like that? can anyone point me towards a manual

  • Magic Mouse with Windows 7 Boot Camp

I get that this discussion has been posted here and on other forums throughout the web. I still don't get it. My Magic Mouse works when I use Mac, but when I use Boot Camp Windows 7 Professional 64-bit I can't get it to install. The number 2 step people keep saying is "right click" on the magic mouse. Do I right click the actual mouse or the magic mouse icon? Also, how do I right click if the Mac I have only has the pad? I'm new to Mac's and tried clicking the right side of the pad and nothing different happens.
I'm really bad with computers so if someone can break it down as easy as possible I would much appreciate it.

    NotGood,
Can you help those of us who are still struggling with this issue, by explaining what you did?
    Thanks,

  • Labview RT dualboot with Windows 7 (Boot magic doesn't work)

I'm trying to setup a desktop RT controller with both Labview RT and Windows 7. I can't seem to get the two on one bootloader screen. I have found that I need to boot into the RT partion either through the ready made USB in max external USB (EFI) or set as active (which causes windows to no longer be bootable). Much thanks.

Why not just boot directly off the partition?  There are 2 rules for working with LabVIEW Real-Time from a partition:
    1.  On IDE, you can only use the primary drive.  It doesn't always work if you're using a primary slave or a secondary drive or secondary slave.  On SATA, use SATA0 for best compatibility.
    2.  It's best if the FAT32 partition you create for RT is located within the first 2GB of the disk.  Actually, it's best if you limit your FAT32 partition to 1GB in size (FAT32 degrades in performance and reliability the bigger you make the partition) and make the FAT32 partition start at the beginning of the drive.  Once you format the FAT32 partition with the USB key, you can boot off it.  Keeping the partition within the first 2GB of the disk is strictly for the 16-bit boot loader, it cannot address beyond 2GB so if your files could end up 4GB into the disk you've got problems.
The tool I like using is System Commander for dual-booting, the benefit is being able to hide boot partitions from OS's that don't need them (if you want to hide one OS from the other).  I'd imagine you can use other boot systems the same way.

  • My Windows wont boot from the Recovery USB

    Hi,
I created a recovery USB and when pressing f12 at start it does show me the USB as boot option. But when I select it nothing happens and it again shows me boot option.
THe space consumed by recovery media is 10.1 GB and it wont let  me create it again . Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello, your installation disk is running under OSX??? If no the media has a problem!!!
    1. Restart your mac and hold the alt (option key) to select media to install.
    2. Restart you mac and hold the "c" key to boot.
an other solution is to make a partition on the hard drive and put a restore image of the Mac os X Installation dvd inside it then Restart your mac nad hold the "option" key and you will see the partition with mac os x installation and you can make a new installation from there.

  • Update xp to sp3  then windows wont boot

I installed Xp sp2 it worked just fine so I downloaded sp3 no when I boot I get to the windows screen (the one with the blue bar on the bottom) and won't go any further
    anyone else have this problem
    Any Ideas

    Hi Kev
You were luckier than me - maybe - you managed to install the download but at least my Boot Camp is still working.
How did you manage to install it?
Each time I tried to install SP3 it told me there was not enough space and I needed to free up 4.4MB of disk space - even though I have 20GB of free space on the drive.
Now I have given up and switched off Windows Automatic Updates.
I figure someday soon, Apple will give us an upgrade download to Mac OS X 10.5.4 that will allow the successful installation of Windows SP3 within Boot Camp. Until then we keep soldiering on.
Must say I'm a bit disappointed with Apple that they expect their customers to solve their own problems.
For what it's worth, trying to upgrade SP1 to SP2 also required 4.4MB more free space. It required the SP2 disk to install. Maybe this is the same.
I also have a Windows XP PC laptop that is upgraded by downloads to SP3 so I won't be buying the program disk for Boot Camp.
    Best regards
    Charley

  • Number keys on Mac keyboard with Windows in boot camp

I am using the full size wired keyboard with my iMac. While I am in WIndows XP Pro on Boot Camp, I can not use the number keys on the right side. Is there any way I can make these work? It might be picky, but is sure annoying the crap out of me. Any thoughts?

  • Stuck in the installation with windows using boot camp

I gave windows 35GB on my HDD. When I came to the part in the installation to chose a place to install windows on, all the places that was showing gaved my the answer "you need to have NTFS". The problem was that none of them had it, not even the 35GB space that I made with boot camp for this.
I chose to stop it all and started go back in the installation. But when I came to the choosing of languages I clicked on "x", then my computer started restarting itself. It is know I am stuck.
I manage to get the installation disk out, so now my screen is black and all that is showing is "no bootable device -- insert boot disc and press any key"
I dont know how to get back to ios.
Please help me find a way to get back to iOS!

You must read the Boot Camp directions before charging in, this is clearly covered on Page 7.
Reboot: at the sound of the chime press and hold the option key. When the startup manager loads select OSX to boot from.
IOS is for iPads, you want to get back to OSX

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum cant upgrade to BIOS 1.4, Windows wont boot.

    Hello
I have a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and I cant upgrade to BIOS 1.4.  I have tried everything and cannot get Windows XP to boot with BIOS 1.4.
I have reset the BIOS, set defaults, cleared the battery etc but when I load BIOS 1.4 (from a 98SE an ME boot dish and even from the Live Update?
The only solution is to rebuild Windows after loading BIOS 1.4???
    Help

    Hi !
Well, I have that problem, too. I think the reason is a new RAID-BIOS-Version built in the BIOS-Update. I´ve tried the beta-versions V1.51 and V1.5X, too - but they won´t run anyway.
My WinXp hangs while booting (before the WINDOWS-XP-Logo appears, or while fading in...). I cannot reinstall Windows completely because, when I install the 2 raid-drivers, the installation routine hangs before the licensetext - when I don´t install the drivers i cannont install on the raid-drive (beacuase the installation routine shows 2 hdds).
I think, a new driver will solve this problem, but I don´t know where to find it....

  • Using an external hdd with windows on boot camp

Im looking into using boot camp, and was thinking about the option that you get for seeing files that you create in XP within mac OSX, well, wot would happen if i had an external hdd?
ive got one connected thru firewire, and when i use "Get Info" it tells me the format is Mac OS Extended.
Now, would that be recognised within XP, and would i be able to move/store files onto it, and then use them within OSX
If it could, then it would save me having to use a large partition for XP, and the alternative format type.
If anyone could help me out
    Cheers

You would need to ensure that both the Mac OS and Windows XP OS had read/write privileges.

No, not without third party software.

You could is you used MacDrive which will allow you to read Mac formatted disks on a Windows PC.

  • Magic Trackpad issue with Windows 7 Boot Camp

Hi, I just cannot get the the magic trackpad to work with bootcamp in indows 7.
    1) is it compatible?
    2) I have already updated bootcamp to the latest version, installed driver software. It detected the trackpad once and worked but than on reboot just does not work, and also now cannot detect it. Works fine in Mac OSX. Any help is appreciated.

I came across this problem today after buying a Magic Trackpad to replace my dying macbook laptop pad - all of the symptoms above. First I added a USB mac mouse, which at least gave me some control! Then I got a lucky break when the laptop discovered the Trackpad (it did it 1/4 times roughly), I quickly double clicked the icon for the 'wireless mouse' it thought the device was. This kicked off Windows 7 retrieving a driver from the web for the actual device (Magic Trackpad), just the same as the process for adding a Mac USB mouse to the Windows environment. I now have it working fine - although it seems I still have the same problem that inspired me to buy the new pad (left click in Minecraft just keeps going on its own, sometimes stoppable with a second click but destructive in the meantime ;-). May be a Minecraft problem, everything else works fine. Now I have a mouse, a half working pad on the laptop, and a working Magic Trackpad. Recipe for some hardware confusion.

  • Leopard with windows through boot camp

I downloaded windows xp through boot camp today. The installation instructions say I also need to download leopard to the windows side. Do I really need to install mac ox s leopard to the windows side of my mac? And what does leopard do? Will I bee fine without downloading it?

    Need clarification.
BootCamp makes a partition on the hard drive which can then accomodate a Windows installation. You have to have a genuine retail XP installation disk in order to install after using BootCamp to make the partition. The Leopard disk has the Apple drivers necessary for Windows to function on Apple hardware properly and is installed when booted from Windows.

  • Ipod not reconized by windows, wont boot up, wont fully charge? Stuck

    Hiya,
My ipod will not boot up anymore, it simply either goes to a screen where the battery bar is charging, but it doesnt charge up further than the first segment then when I plug usb in it boots up with the apple logo, then goes straight to the recovery screen.
Ive tried everything, DFU mode, sifferent usb slots and othing seems to work. All the computer does it specify it as an 'unknown device' I tried forcing the drivers to it too but it didnt work either.
    Any idaes?

There might be something wrong with your cable?
Is there are any discontinuities in the cable, the computer might not recognize it and send it power. the refusal to boot might just be the low battery.
I'd try connecting it with a different cable (borrow one from a friend maybe) or charging it in a dock (same as above; if you don't have one try to borrow one) and if it works, you'll know that's the issue.
