T410 won't recognize external monitor on KVM

I have a ThinkPad T410 with Windows XP SP3. I've installed the latest Presentation Director (4.55) and the latest Intel HD drivers (6.14.10.5273). If I hook up my external LCD monitor (an HP L2045w) directly from the VGA port on the monitor to the VGA port on the laptop, I can extend my video display to this monitor. However, if I attach the monitor through a KVM switch (a Belkin Omniview E series), I can't. I don't have a dock for this laptop.
The weird thing is that if I set the BIOS so that the external display is the boot display, the external mointor shows the boot screens even when on the KVM switch. I can even get the external display to work on the KVM switch if I boot into Safe Mode. But when I boot into Normal mode while on the KVM switch, the external monitor goes dark as soon as Windows switches video modes, and after I log in I can't extend my display onto the external monitor.
Any ideas?

I'm having exactly the same problem.. I'm thinking it might be a power issue (the power adapter for the omniview series was optional) - but I've never seen this before, and I'm seeing other external monitor issues crop up... let me know if you find a solution.
Oh, my keyboard and mouse work fine, just not the monitor.

My late 2006 iMac doesn't recognize an external VGA monitor connected via the mini-dvi port with adapter and cabling.
Doesn't show up in Displays System Preferences - at times the mouse does show up but not the full display.
Any suggestions - Am I missing something?

  • IMac 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, running Lion 10.7.3, won't recognize external speaker jack, any suggestions?

iMac 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, running Lion 10.7.3, won't recognize external speaker jack, any suggestions?  Got a brand new iMac and purchased external speakers for same.  Hooked them into external speaker jack and the computer does not recognize the external speaker jack.  I then plugged them into the external head phone jack and the computer recognized the head phone jack.  How can I get the computer to recognize the speaker jack?

Thanks "a brody," my mistake, I was mistaking the "audio in" jack for a speaker output jack.  I have some Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers with a built in amplifier that I am using and they sound beautiful.  I do have them plugged into the correct jack, but was thinking there was a speaker out put and headphone out put.
Thanks again for correcting me, I feel much better now that I know my brand new iMac isn't defective, lol.

  • Imac doesn't recognize external monitor but was working

i had my HP monitor (HP 2011x) connected to my imac for about three months and when i went to move my monitors and imac to clean my desk, my imac no longer recognizes the monitor.  all i did was shift the monitors to the left w/out unplugging any cables.
i've seen multiple threads about the same issue where the external monitor is no longer recognized and the majority of no solutions.
has anyone come up with a solution to this?
i restarted in safe mode to try and connect - no joy
i cleared the pram - no joy
    any ideas?
    thank you.

thanks man ... i might just do that.  it is just aggravating b/c this problem seems to have been around for a long time (based on all the support forums threads started about it).
i went to the apple store this afternoon and verified my thunderbolt to hdmi was working and sure enough it was.  i talked to two staff members there and they were equally as clueless why the external monitor is not being recognized via the cable.

  • ? MacBook won't recognize external disc drive

My MacBook's internal disc drive quit, so I'm trying an external Samsung SE-208 slim portable DVD writer.   It worked once, but now the mac won't recognize it.  I tried a DVD switcher app - no luck.  The Samsung plugs into the USB port, starts up OK then disappears from itunes, the desktop, Finder - It's gone. Can I completely disable the internal disc drive?  Would that help?  I appreciate ANY help.   I'm not skilled at these things so you need to spoon feed me.  thanks

  • Won't show external monitor after updating to 10.9.2

Late model 2012 macbook pro (non-retina) won't connect to external monitor after updating to 10.9.2    Tried PRAM, cleaning preferences; in safe mode the monitor does show up, but how does that help me?

  • Windows 8 Bootcamp Does Not Recognize External Monitor

So, my Bootcamp of Windows 8 does not recognize my external monitor when I try to plug it in. I have read that the startup must recognize the monitor during the boot process. However, I have already done this and my external monitor remains in sleep mode. My drivers are all up to date with this bootcamp and I work on programming a lot so I need a solution for this issue because going back and forth between windows of the internet and my code is not ideal for me and wastes too much time. The external monitor works when I run my OS X, just not on Windows 8. If anyone could point me in the direction of how to solve this issue, it would be greatfully appreciated.

They're downloadable. But I'm going to create a system restore point in case something happens.
The below discussion had a similar issue but with Windows 7

  • Macbook air 13 inch 2012 doesn't recognize external monitor...

Hello everyone I'm having a slight problem with my macbook air and I was hoping that someone here could help.
I am using a Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor to connect my Macbook air 2012 13 inch to an external monitor. When I connect my computer to the monitor my computer doesn't recognize that it is infact connected and acts as if nothing is connected.

I followed the steps on the link you provided for resetting the SMC and also did NVRAM reset but now, when I open the lid, it doesn't come back up, instead it just beeps 3 times and never comes back up.
Not sure what to do about this now.

  • Won't recognize external drives

Just installed 10.7.3 and now my MacBook won't recognize my external hard drives (for Time Machine or other storage) nor will it recognize digital cameras except through Image Capture. Suggestions? Since posting this I found another post with the same topic, and have posted the info to that string.

Try resetting the bus. Instructions here:

  • Macbook does not recognize external monitor

    Hi,
I have a Macbook and I tried to connect an external Benq FP93GW using a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter but the external monitor does not detect any signal.
    Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance for any help.

You might read this post of someone who couldn't get his external display to be recognized until he reset the MacBook's SMC (System Management Controller).
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9351216#9351216
This thread also has some other details on trying to workaround color issues on the external display but it was a reset of the SMC that finally allowed the MacBook to recognize the display. However, Apple cautions that a reset of the SMC should only be done after other options or possibilities have been exhausted. Before you try a reset of the SMC you might want to try a reset of the MacBook's PRAM.

  • IMac does not recognize external monitor using Mini Display Port to HDMI

    Hello,
I have been trying to get an external monitor (HDTV) set up for use with my iMac using a Mini Display Port to HDMI cable I just got. However, when I connect it to my iMac's mini display port, the imac's screen goes black for about a second, then returns, but it does not detect the external display. The other display is just showing a "no signal" message on the screen.
I have restarted, reset PRAM, connected and disconnected the cable several times, tried changing the resolution on the imac, plugged in/out the other display, and clicked the "detect displays" button using the option key in display preferences, but nothing has worked.
I am using an early 2009 iMac running Mavericks.
I've been using the AirParrot app, but it's horrible for video and a little slow.
Can anyone please help sort the issue here? I feel like ive exhausted everything that I know to do.
    Thanks.

I am having the same issue.  Hope Apple can fix this soon!!!

  • Need Win XP to recognize external monitor connected to Macbook in BootCamp

I have a Macbook running Leopard connected to an external monitor. When I close the lid, it goes to sleep and I can click mouse or spacebar on keyboard to wake it up and show the image on the external monitor. Can't achieve the same thing in Win XP on the BootCamp side. How to do it?

Just for clarification, when running XP in Boot Camp can you now auto wake the laptop in XP? By doing what? Mouse, keyboard, bluetooth? Not knowing this has stopped me from buying a MacBook Pro. Would really like to know how this works. Thanks in advance.

  • How to make Lenovo recognize external monitor as default at boot time?

    Hello,
I suspect this is a rather simple fundamental Windows operation procedure, but I am going bald - tearing my hair out - trying to get this to work!!  I use Windows XP on a Lenovo 3000 V100, with Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver (Intel 945W chipset).  Whenever I plug into an external monitor, I always have to manually switch the display from the laptop to the external monitor.  Here's the sequence of what happens.
    1) connect external monitor & turn on laptop
    2) Lenovo banner appears on the external monitor
    3) Windows banner appears on the external monitor
    4) but then Windows GUI (log-on screen) switches back to laptop monitor.
    5) must use hot keys to toggle the display from laptop to external monitor.
    6) must then reselect resolution settings of the external monitor (none of previously saved settings were recognized!!!)
I must repeat these steps once I logged of my computer session; and reconnect with the external monitor later.  I would appreciate any help or suggestions.  Thank you.

I don't have an V100 to check the following but, if you go into BIOS (F1 at boot) there should hopefully be an entry in the Config > Display menu allowing you to select default boot display as VGA rather than intern.

  • Windows on mac won't recognize external moniter?

    anyone have any suggestions

    Hi there,
I am experiencing the similar problem. The model of LCD is CMV 934D.
In Windows, before you can enable extended monitor feature, the driver must first detect there is a external LCD attached to it. In my situation, only notebook display is detected and no external monitor is detected by the driver.
Is this a known issue or is there compatibility issue with certain LCDs?
Any advise would be much appreciated.
