T440s Freezes when plugged in to AC

I have seen a problem like this posted online, but cannot find an answer. My T440s will boot up, and then the screen will stay black unless I unplug the computer, then it will finish booting to the windows screen. It also freezes if it is left not used for a few hours, plugged in, despite me having set hibernate to never when plugged in. If i unplug the computer it seems to be more responsive. I have restored to factory setting with the original CDs but It still happens. Any suggestions? Is this a hardware or software problem? I have two OEM Lenovo plugs and it happens with both so I do not think it is the Adaptor. I also use at work and home and the same thing happens, so I doubt it is a outlet / power problem. Thanks

They told me to upgrade the bios. I'm waiting for the intermittent problem to happen again. What hardware part do you think it is
I completely agree with Skoop's comment. Updating BIOS on a machine that is having power issues risks bricking the machine. I would call them back and explain that you can't update the BIOS because the machine doesn't even boot successfully with the adapter attached, as you've described in your first post.
For reference, from the readme file, the first item in the BIOS update instruction sequence is: "Firmly connect the AC adapter to your ThinkPad computer.".
As to what hardware may be at issue? Anything I'd say would be a wild guess.
Regards.

  • T440s freezes when plugged in to AC after upgrade to Windows 10

After upgrading to Windows 10 my T440s shows the following behaviour: It boots up fine with the AC adapter plugged in. Now if I unplug power it goes into battery mode, i.e. darker backlight etc just fine. Now plugging the power back in, the screen gets brighter but the UI freezes. The screen freezes and the mouse pointer doesn't move. It doesn't seem to completely lock up though because when I unplug the power again everything comes back to life again. I have installed the latest Windows 10 drivers I could find to no avail. Anybody have the same experience?  Thanks, Carsten

I am happy to report that this is fixed after upgrading the Intel HD Graphics driver from Windows Update via Device Manager. Not sure why that hadn't shown up as available directly in Windows Update.

  • MacBook Pro Mid 2012 freezes when plugged in

Hi. My Mid 2012 MBP which runs on Yosemite 10.10.2 keeps freezing even when just browsing on Chrome so I uninstalled Chrome and used Safari. I was still having problems after switching browsers so I restored my device to its factory settings but the restore did not solve my problem. All this time my device was plugged in so I unplugged it and tried to browse. It did not freeze or crash. I read the forums and found out about the SMC reset and a NVRAM reset but my device is still freezing when plugged in. I am typing this while my MBP is unplugged. Please help.

    Reset the SMC again:
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
    Then try s safe boot:

    Any change?
    Run an Apple Hardware Test:

Note that an error free AHT is not definitive.

  • Ipod freezes when plugged in to comp

i wanted to transfer songs from one computer to the next, so i turned the ipod in usb mode and stored 1 gb of songs(almost) on it, then i went to the other computer, and started to unload them. but half way through it, one of the songs wouldn't transfer, and after that, my ipod just wouldn't connect to the computer w/o freezing my comp (end task comes up after a while). i can't restore it b/c i don't have the option to (it just freezes once plugged in).

  • IPod nano freezing when plugged into Belkin Tunecast

Everything has been working fine with my ipod nano 3rd generation until recently. I tried to plug it into the tunecast in my car and the ipod froze. I've tried resetting it and this still happens. A different ipod has been working fine with the tunecast which makes me think there is nothing wrong with the belkin but the ipod is fine even when plugged into the computer which makes me wonder which one is not working properly. Any ideas????

I am having this exact same issue with my wife's 3g, 8GB nano and her Monster iCarPlay. the Monster unit and the nano worked fine together for a week or two but now the nano locks up when connected to it. You disconnect the nano and it goes back to working fine. I have reset the nano while both connected and not connected to the Monster and have done a restore in iTunes and I am still having the same issue. I called support and they basically told me to buy a new car adapter. I don't believe this is a good solution since the Monster worked with the nano for a couple of weeks when we first got it and the Monster still works fine with both my wife's and my old ipod mini's. Any suggestions?

  • IPod classic 160GB freezing when plugged in

    Hi,
My new iPod classic started freezing when plugge in after the night, for example - it needs a restore, then works fine. Any ideas?
    Thank you for your help

Yikes!, it may means it is the iPod Classic firmware 2.0.4, that is hanging up the USB Host controller, which freezes your whole Computer.
Could be a partially updated firmware 2.0.4, (so kind of corrupted)
    Can you
    1. Open in finder <yourname>/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/
    2. Remove the .ipsw and .ipsw.signature for the version you are wanting to drop, in this case, 2.0.4
    3. Open iTunes and in Preferences uncheck automatic check for updates.
    4. Connect iPod and select restore. It will ask you if you want to check for newer update. Select Yes. All files will be removed and it will have to resync the entire library but it worked.
PS: try and do this in Diskmode.

  • T410s - new - freezes when plugged in to A/C power.

New T410s out of the box will freeze within 10 minutes of booting into the Windows 7. It does not appear to freeze when running on Battery.  All Lenovo update and Microsoft updates have been applied.

So it seems I am not the only one with this problem then! My T410s freezes on average every two to three hours. If it is running on battery or not doesn't seem to make a difference. I have installed all new windows and lenovo updates (including a bios update, which by the way solved an annoying problem of letters being scrambled when typing at very high speed). Interestingly, a friend of mine got a T410s at about the same time as I did, and it suffers from the same problems.
So what seems to be going on? It seems unlikely to be a heat issue, as the system has actually frozen a couple of times within seconds of coming back from hibernation. I am afraid if I send my T410s for repair it will come back in the same state. It seems difficult to pinpoint the cause of these errors.
Another problem I have with this computer (which is probably better to discuss in another thread) is a rather loud high pitch noise when running on battery. From what I can tell it stems from the cpu power management (disabling cpu power management removes the noise, but at the cost of half the battery life). As I have had the chance to compare two T410s's side by side I know that this high pitch noise is more audible in some computers than others. Another interesting observation when comparing the two T410s's is the difference in display calibration, where my friends T410s had a very strong green tint compared to mine. From what I can tell from the viewing angles the panel seems to be of the same type.
I can't help myself but to mention yet another problem with the two T410s's I have seen. It does unfortunately not sit 100% flat on the table. Within days of use the lower left corner will be hoovering I'd say about 1mm-1.5mm above the table. It might have something to do with the slightly unusual placement of the battery and thermal expansion/contraction.
If the two first problems I mentioned could somehow be fixed I'd be happy. Everything else about this computer seems to be excellent.

  • IPod classic freezes when plugged in

Whenever I plug my iPod into the computer, it freezes at the "Connected, Eject before disconnecting." screen. The actual iPod freezes and I have to reset it to use it again.
    Details:
    1. My main computer is a PC with Windows XP. I've tried 2 different PCs and a Mac, none of them recognize it.
    2. It charges properly while connected by USB.
    3. My Computer doesn't always recognize it, when it does see a drive there and I try to access it, Explorer crashes.
    4. iTunes doesn't always recognize there's an iPod attached, when it does recognize that its there, it offers to restore after telling me the iPod was corrupted, but never goes past the "Restoring" mini-window.
    5. I can't restore since everytime I plug it in the iPod freezes.
I've tried resetting the iPod repeatedly, reinstalling the USB drivers, re-registering the Windows .dll's (even though the same thing occurs on MacOSX), to no avail.
My data and music is still there. I can still play it. I just can't sync or restore my iPod at all.
    Any ideas?
    TIA

There have been countless threads about this issue, and apple just locks them and acts like nothing is wrong.
As of now, the only solution to this problem is to return the ipod.

  • My 5G seems to stutter then freeze when plugged in

    Has anyone heard of this problem;
While the 5G is plugged into the dock or the Alpine car unit (same type of connection as the doc), it will play for awhile then start to stutter ( stop and start ) for about a minute - then it will freeze. At which point I have to undock it and wait about 60 seconds for the click wheel to respond to any commands.
I've tried the restore. I've reformatted it. I've checked the HD for errors. Nothing seems to work.
    Any help?
    Thanks!

To see the songs on the iPod when it's connected to the computer, is this what you are doing?
Select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Click the little triangle next to the iPod, so that it points down, and you should see a "drop down" list of iTunes media types, indented under the iPod.  On of them should be Music, and your playlists (that are on the iPod) should also appear on this list.  Select Music, and over to the right are all the songs that are currently on the iPod.
You should be able to see these songs when using the iPod (as an iPod).  So, the second question is, how are you playing (looking for) the songs on the iPod?  By playlist?  By artist?  By album?  By genre?  Some other way...?

    I GOT THE SOLUTION
At least for my IMac! As usual, the most stupid thing was underestimated. I started to have the "freezing" trouble when I connected my Ipod Nanop, last month, than my Ipod Video and Mini Ipod too.The strange thing was that befor the Nano, the mini worked well. But, when I bought the Nano (one month before the Video) i simoultaneously bought an hub system (2.0, self-alimented), and I put the cable for the ipod connection into the hub, while with the former mini Ipod was connected directly to my IMac. Today I disconnected the hub, I put the Ipod cable again into the IMac, directly to the Ipod, and everything magically worked perfectly. I copied all my 4.000 songs library in a while, without freezing anything but my fingers (this winter is very cold in Italy!!!!).
Hope to have helped you. tell me....

  • 2009 17" Macbook freezes when plugged into Apple 24" LED Display

In the last few weeks I have noticed that when I plug my 17" UBMP into my 24" Apple display, the computer freezes and the 24" display remains dark.
The computer freeze shows no spinning ball, there is curser movement but nothing will work/open and I am forced to hold the power button until the machine restarts. When it does the display and machine work ok, unless I disconnect and re-connect the display.
This seems to happen 1 out of 5 times. I have a logitech wave cordless set with a usb stick/receiver in the display, however this does not seem to be the issue as it does not freeze sometimes with the stick connected.
    anybody else see this issue?

Hi, Ray. Disconnect the Logitech USB dongle from the display, and try connecting and using the display with only your MBP's built-in mouse and trackpad in use. If you have no trouble with that simplified setup, try plugging the Logitech dongle directly into one of your MBP's USB ports, instead of into the display. Test again. Post back with results.
It seems very likely to me that the Logitech devices are somehow involved in the problem, even though it doesn't arise every time you connect the external display with the Logitech dongle connected to it.

  • Finder freezes when plugging external hdd

I have a "Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1TB USB3.0" external HDD and everytime I plug it into my mac and open Finder, it takes hours to show the files and most of times my mac freezes while trying to do so.
I have never had this problem before installing Mavericks.
Could anyone help me on that?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • My computer freezes when plugging into my usb port

I just got and ipod shuffle when i plug it into my usb port a few seconds later my computer freezes and i have to restart

Try a different USB port. I had that issue with my shuffle once and using another USB port resolved it. Here is a great iPod Shuffle Support page. Keep it handy for anytime there is an issue or question regarding your shuffle. It's very thorough. http://www.apple.com/support/ipodshuffle/

  • Mouse freeze when plugging my iPod in my Laptop...

    Hello,
This is the 2nd post I'm posting due to very strange iPod behaviour... As well as not being seen in my iMac, I have noticed a strange thing with my XP laptop at work : when I plug my iPod, the mouse plugged into the laptop freezes...
Anyone had the same issue? What to do???
For info : my laptop is an IBM T42, into a docking station and with a IBM mouse plugged into the docking station...
Thank in advance for your help!

First of all, thanks for your answers!
Scott, I indeed loaded the latest drivers of the mouse but this does not solve the issue : same blocked USB mouse while plugging the iPod...
Now, it is true that I can still use the keypad of the laptop. The only problem I have is that the laptop is on my left, and I am right-handed... And what is the point of having a real mouse at work if it was to use the keypad...
I even noticed a starnger thing : in the device manager, my HID complient mouse totally disappears while plugging the iPod...
So anyony having the same trouble? Anyone found a solution to this???
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Ipod freezing when plugged in

    hello
recently my ipod has been having trouble, generation 5 or 6 i think it is, 120gb, refurbished purchased direct from apple (warranty is up). lately when i plug in my ipod, it instantly freezes the ipod as if it were playing the music, shows song name etc.. and once i reset it, it's fine and plugs in. i should note as well that this is not the case EVERYTIME i'd say probably 9/10 it freezes.
about 2 months ago is when this started and then one day i plugged in my ipod and i lost all my music minus maybe 3000 songs that we're still on the ipod hard drive so i've had to redo everything once i formatted it. i was extremely frustrated naturally, but now it seems to just continue doing it and even some songs i put on my ipod play on itunes, but when i play them on my ipod they show up for 1 second and instantly skip to the next song.
now that i can deal with, maybe the song is the problem im not sure, however, now i plugged in my ipod today and it freezes, naturally, i reset it and now it connects and it's giving me the screen to change the ipod's name as if it's going to reset to when you'd first format the ipod. it's happened twice now, im kinda afraid to plug it in now, i just yank it out as soon as i see the screen and it's 'verifying" the ipod, when i yank it out it's fine all my stuff is still there. any thoughts on this matter? should i look at just backing everything up and reformatting again? id really hope this isn't the matter as i have playlists/ratings i'd like to keep which i initially lost when it first screwed up.
    thanks, philip

Your nano uses a totally different way to sync with iTunes than the touch. You need to follow the troubleshooting tips in this article about removing and reinstalling iTunes.
