T440s touchpad and trackpoint issue

I have a new T440s which came with Windows 8, and I upgraded to 8.1
Nothing strange installed in it.
Sometimes touchpad and/or trackpoint don't work at all after turning on, rebooting or recovering from a suspended state.
It never fails while the system is running.
When it happens, I reboot and it works fine.
Already upgraded everything using System Update (BIOS, etc) and Windows Update.
Sounds to me as a driver issue, not a hardware issue... but I am not 100% sure.
What should I do?
Should I reinstall any driver? How?

Uninstall the UltraNav driver from Device Manager or Programs and Features. Then run System Update; it should offer the UltraNav driver again.

  • Touchpad and trackpoint problems, especially when resuming from sleep

I am having persistent problems with the touchpad and trackpoint on my L530.  I prefer to use the trackpoint usually, and found that the touchpad was super-sensitive and caused the cursor to jump around during normal (touch) typing so I disabled the touchpad.  Next time the thinkpad resumed from sleep mode, the mouse was frozen.  Nothing would reactivate it.  I had to switch user, which temporarily fixed it, and then reactivate the touchpad.
If I try and change trackpad settings at any time other than directly after a reboot, the settings are greyed-out and I can't touch them. Right now, both trackpad and trackpoint are completely dead again, but I've plugged in a USB mouse and that seems to be working, so I've given up fiddling with it.  This will be a pain when I'm moving around with the laptop though!
The OS is Windows 7.  Yesterday I went looking for the most recent driver, uninstalled the existing one (as per guidance) and installed the new driver.  No luck.
I've heard this is a common problem and apparently installing a generic driver works, but I'm not completely sure what to use.  Anyone know?
Oh, and I'm not sure if this is related, but quite often when I resume from sleep mode the keyboard is also dead.  However, if I switch user it comes back to life.  So annoying but not the end of the world.

Thanks for posting this information in this forum. You just saved me a couple thousand dollars!

  • The touchpad and trackpoint don't work on X220

All greetings! I from Russia, therefore am sorry for my bad English. On my X220 (4290RV4) the touchpad and trackpoint have ceased to work, but the keyboard and fpr works normally. I tried different versions of BIOS and drivers, reinstalled windows, but it is ineffectual

    hey Solo,
try removing the ultranav/mouse drivers from your unit via Device Manager.
go to http://support.lenovo.com ; download the latest ultranav/mouse drivers for your unit and install.
    try again.

  • Thinkpad T440 trackpad and trackpoint trouble

    Hi,
My trackpad and trackpoint have stopped working on my T440 running Windows 8.1.
When running Lenovo Solution center it says that a PS/2-compatiable mouse is inactivated and I can't see any of the pointing devices in the device manager.
When I try to install the appointed UltraNav driver I sometimes get an error which says the installation was unsuccessful. Sometimes the installation is successful but when I reboot the computer the devices still doesn't work and when I try to configure them through the control panel I get an error which says that the driver doesn't work.
I have also checked so that both devices are enabled in BIOS.
    Thanks
    Jakob

Try a bootable Linux live environment and see if fails similarly there. If so, it's probably a hardware fault.

  • Touchpad and bluetooth issue

    Hi,
The bluetooth and touchpad enable/disable feature is not working on my hp g4 1303AU model. I have installed lots of bluetooth drivers but to no avail.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Parag

    Hello @paragpratim,
I have read your post on how the TouchPad and Bluetooth software on your computer is not functioning correctly, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
Since the TouchPad and the Bluetooth are collectively not working, I recommend installing the original software and drivers that first came with your notebook computer. This can be done by following the steps in this document on Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7) or for (Windows 8).
Once this software is installed, please follow this resource on Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 7) or for (Windows 8) to update the drivers.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

  • E530 e430 touchpad and trackpoint questions

    hi all,
please can you give me a feedback from your experience on e530 or e430 laptops
    a) is your touchpad unit shaking? My touchpad has one milimeter gap, i mean when you tap it is going down one milimeter and this is very annoying.
    b) are your trackpoint buttons working well on every press you make. My right button has a dead zone. Imagine that you divide the button into four pieces (two up and two down). The upper left piece of the button is the dead zone, so when you press it there nothing happens. The result is that i need to press it harder and at the most right side of the button.
Do you experience these problems at your e530-430-330 laptops?

    noone has e530?
please, tell me about your touchpad. Is there a gap between touchpad and base? when i tap the touchpad it depresses about 1 mm and it feels loose. Is it normal? If it is defective i want to be on time for return - doa.

  • Ubuntu 13.10 on a T440 - Wifi, Sound, Fingerprint reader and TrackPoint issues

I recently got my t440 and put Ubuntu 13.10 on it and have had a few problems pop up. Hopefully someone here can help, or I will find solutions and post here as things get working again.
Wifi - I have a Thinkpad  11b/g/n 2x2 wireless card. I do not believe there are currently Linux drivers provided for this card. According to thinkwiki, the 1x2 version of the card works with real tek's rtl8192se driver; I have tried to load it with modprobe, but it does not work for this card. There might be a solution to this with ndiswrapper, but I haven't been successful. I have ordered an intel wireless card to replace this one.

TrackPoint - The trackpoint pointer works fine, but lenovo did away with the physical left/middle/right click buttons. Fingerprint reader- above links do not resolve the problem. fprintd and frprint-demo do not recognize the Validity fingerprint sensor. My issues are the same as described in this post.

  • Problems with touchpad and trackpoint (Edge E430)

    Hello!
Please help me, I've tried uninstalling and installing the UltraNav drive without success.
Block trackpoint, and even use a regular mouse.
    My problem is as follows:
The Trackpoint cursor is moving alone. After disabling the trackpoint, I could use the touchpad for a normal time. Then the cursor touchpad is also moving alone. And the same happens with the mouse.
Furthermore, the lower right touchpad button does not work as secondary click. Works just like the left, a standard button click. And sometimes not even working.
Please help me! This is bothering others. I have to hold the trackpoint cursor to stop moving alone and to use normal mouse.
    Windows 8.1 64, ThinckPad Edge E430, core i5.
    Thank you!

Yeah, the only soluton is going to be if they are going to decide to refine the drivers or something like that. Tried BIOS, no luck. Problem comes and goes. Really hope they at least try to update the drivers because so many people have this issue. Yeah I had one random restart and then, it has not happened since, so I am pretty much only concerned with fixing the touchpad or getting it to work properly.

  • Windows 8.1 Ent. Helix - UltraNav, TouchPad and Keyboard issues

    System:
    Helix 3701XXX
    Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64-bit
    Third Apps installed
    Latest Lenovo Drivers installed
    Problem:
Latest versions of ThinkPad Synaptic UltraNav Drivers (versions 18.0.7.39 to .57)  causing keyboard to act sporadically. This would cause programs to automatically open and key inputs to continuously active (repeating the enter key). Other behaviors include ignoring touchpad input and ignoring certain keys on keyboard. The problem has been reported by 5+ systems.
    When it occurs:
The problem is intermittent; it often occurs after waking the system up from sleep or from a locked state (Windows lockscreen). As a workaround, the user has to press the ESC key, CTRL+ALT+Delete or restart the system in order to regain functionality. Uninstalling the driver application also resolves the issue.
Anyone else experiencing this issue? Any advice from Lenovo staff would help.

Yes, I get similar issues. Although in my case it is mainly:
    i) the mouse point does not respond after resuming from sleep - CTRL-ALT-Delete or ESC normal resolves this
ii) windows or programs open on resume from sleep as if the mouse button was depressed (could be enter key however). Again CTRL-ALT-DEL or ESC can resolve this
I'm pretty sure that this is a driver issue as it has only been the last 6 or so months I've experienced this
    I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro

  • X1 Carbon touchpad and trackpad stops working.

Received my new X1 Carbon 2014 this week. After only two minutes of use, the trackpad and toucphpad stopped working.
I hade to use an external mouse, and even after all driver updates it still didn`t work.
If I restart the machine, sometimes the track-touchpad will work, but suddenly it freezes up again (after only minutes of use), and I will have to restart to fix the problem. Have used it for 5 hrs now, and how probably restarted about 30-40 times.
Anyone know what is causing this problem and/or how I can fix it?
    //alex

    Same issue here.
Bought my X1 carbon 20A7 last month.
The touchpad and trackpoint stop working after a while. Sometimes after minutes of use, sometimes after half an hour. When I close the lid, to let it go to sleep, and wake it up again they both work again. Another interesting (might be a coincedance) issue is that when I wake the laptop up after this has ocurred, the fingerprint reader does not work to log back on.
I have done a fresh install of windows 8.1 and updated all windows and Lenovo drivers.
I hope this gets solved quickly. It's kind of ridiculous for such a premium laptop.

  • External ThinkPad USB Keyboard with TrackPoint issues with scroll (55Y9003) and hotkeys on a x201

    Hello
Once more there is a glitch with the drivers for this external keyboard 55Y9003.
    I have the drivers:
16.2.19.13 for the ultranav system of the x201
    1.10 for the external keyboard
    My system is XP sp3.
The keyboard of the x201is fine relative to the one  55Y9003.
The scrolling is set to standard for both systems.
Please do not advise to select smooth; it is not a solution and the smooth scrolling has been systematically utterly unusable.
    The issues:
-the hotkeys on the external keyboards are not all working:
basically, fn+f4 and fn+nmlk work but the rest does not (say fn+f8)
-the scrolling of the external keyboard is not at all identical to the scrolling of the x201.
For instance, in pdfs viewed with foxit for instance, I have not a problem to scroll horizontally with the x201 starting with the hand tool.
WIth the external keyboard, whan I press the middle button to activate the scrolling, it remains the hand tool, I can scroll vertically but not horizontally.
FIrefox as also issues whith the middle button.
-the external keyboard still suffers from the sticky shift key.
I know the x201 and the 55Y9003 are no longer fashionable, but  Is there some directly  guy working at Lenovo who could help ?

I have the ThinkPad USB keyboard on a non-Lenovo desktop, and it works.
Yes the keyboard driver installs, but not the Lenovo System Interface Driver, for obvious reasons. All the buttons and TrackPoint work.
Yes the TrackPoint does not scroll in all programs. Search the community for "trackpoint scroll fix" and you will come up with instructions on how to fix this.

  • T440s Touchpad Hardware Fault

Just a query about the touchpad/trackpad on the T440s.
I have found that there is a ~2cm wide column on the very left of the touchpad that does not register a click when depressed. It also feels very spongey and different relative to the rest of the touchpad. As a result it makes general use, and use with the trackpoint extremely difficult as a good percentage of the time a click is not registered in this area.
I was just wondering if the touchpad is infact supposed to be like this and it is a nonissue and just a really terrible feature, and if other people have this issue?
Also would this be something that I would be able to possibly fix myself somehow - taking out the touchpad and putting it back in again for example?

    kwibatman,
This could be a hardware issue and I would encourage you to contact service after trying a few updates.
    1) We have been releasing a series of new Synaptics drivers - a release on Nov, one on Dec 17th, and a most recent one on Jan 7 here -> http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS034647
    2) We have a firmware update for the touchpad here-> http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS039494
Can you apply these and see if the situation improves?
If you still have trouble after this, please give service a call to check out the hardware.

  • CP60-615DX Touchpad and external mouse no longer work after WIndows 7 SP1 update

Let me start by saying I am in the IT field, though clearly far from being great at it. I was updating a CP60-615DX at work with Win 7 x64 SP1. It installed with no errors or anything I'd consider abnormal. Once it was finished, the touchpad no long worked, as well as any mouse I'd hook up via Usb. So I checked Device manager, and the Touchpad is listed with the yellow exclamation mark, as well as mice I hook up. So I did what any respectable IT guy would do, I went to HP and downloaded x64 drivers for the Touchpad port and installed them. But they didn't fix the issue, literally nothing happened. So I installed the latest chipset drivers. Still nothing changed. So I uninstalled the device and manually added it by doing the advanced driver install for a new device, pointing it to the directory where the .exe file had placed the drivers. ...Nothing. So I uninstalled SP1,.... nothing. After uninstalling SP1, redid every aforementioned step, nothing. So my question is, **bleep**? Anyone know another way to fix an issue where the scrolling devices stop working and the drivers won't fix the issue?
Btw, the user had never set up windows restore, and my only other thought is pulling personal documents off and restoring to factory defaults. One more bit of info before I forget, when I went into Windows Recovery (which loads a pre-environment mini OS for you to restore and fix issues), the mouse worked, telling me it's not a hardware issue, it's a Windows vs devices issue.

    Hi,
According to your description, since system reinstallation is not helpful, it's probably a hardware problem, it would be better to check if it is the device itself problem.

    Hello there, omsmac.
The following Knowledge Base article provides a great place to start with some good information that can apply to keyboard issues as well as trackpad:
Trackpad or Magic Trackpad is jumpy or erratic
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1449
Aside from the usage recommendations, this recommended step is very practical:
If none of the above resolve the issue, try to rule-out software not created by Apple as a cause. To do so, start in Safe Mode.
There are some good steps for testing the keyboard as well found here:
One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1381
If the issue persists after attempting Safe Mode, then you may want to try an SMC (System Management Controller) reset. The steps on how to accomplish that are found here:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

  • ThinkPad USB Keyboard with TrackPoint issues with scroll (55Y9003)

    Hi Guys,
I am having issues with this  keyboard...
I ordered it to use it  on my work where I have Dell Vostro desktops.
However scroll simply doesn't work in all programs and even stops working ... I also using VM and it doesn't work at all in VMWARE even if you point inside it it still operates at host system !? Weird...
I have installed latest drivers 1.01 but nothing... So when I removed all drivers and just keep default scroll work as default but still not in all programs and not in VM Ware, etc... Just to be clear my regular mouse scroll works in all and works properly...
Is it possible that this keyboard will work only on Thinkpads used as external keyboard ?
There are two things to be installed when I start a disk one is driver and second one is some interface driver which can be only installed on Thinkpads ?! Couldn't be that that thing is missing when running on non Thinkpad systems?
Any help how to make scroll work in all programs?
    Thanks.
