T500 headphones buzzing issue!

I just bought a T500 used, and most sounds buzz with every pair of headphones I use, it's mainly the right ear. Does anyone know hwy this is happening? I have reinstalled drivers, and tried cleaning the headphone jack, but I can't make sounds stop buzzing.
Also it's the kind of sound you would expect from a monitor speaker turned up all the way, a kind of "tinny" effect.

I had tried some rubbing alcohol, anyway I needed my screen replaced, so I sent it in for warranty repair.

I am on my second zen micro, and guess what? Headphone jack!<SPAN> I was preparing to return it to my local retailer when the ups guy came with my wired remote that I had ordered when I was on my first micro.<SPAN> I decided to try it out just for the hell of it and headphone jack!<SPAN> But wait a minute, what are the odds that the jack on the remote would be defecti've in exactly the same way as the unit itself? Does Malaysia and its many, many solderers have an irrational hatred of headphone jack circuitry no matter what the device?<SPAN> Turns out (at least in my case) no.<SPAN> This is a headphone issue, folks, not a headphone jack issue.<SPAN> What is counter-intuiti've about this is that we all know what headphones do when they fail:<SPAN> either the left or right earbud goes out intermittently in crackly fashion when the wire just above the plug is disturbed, or sometimes just below the earbud itself?the usual wear points.<SPAN> But this failure is different, is it not?<SPAN> There are no crackles. Instead, one channel (not earbud) will fail.<SPAN> In other words, the left channel, for example, will come through both earbuds, so that if you are listening to a Beatles song, you will hear John, Ringo and George playing away, but not Paul singing.<SPAN> But since Paul comes and goes when you wiggle the base of the headphones back and forth in the jack, the assumption is is that the jack is wiggling loose of its contact points.<SPAN> But what really seems to be happening is that an ill-fitting headphone male is wobbling around in its female jack counterpart.<SPAN> I tried two different headphones and was unable to reproduce this failure, while I heard the problem instantly when I plugged my creative headphones into my home stereo.<SPAN>
This brings me back to creative.<SPAN> If I am right, Creative may have dodged a bullet, or maybe the knew this all along and saw fit not to tell us, as is their way.<SPAN> I did, however, purchase a unit that includes headphones? that don?t work.<SPAN> What if instead of me sending back a second unit, I send you a pair of broken headphones and you send me a pair of non-Creative headphones?<SPAN> Or a coupon for something another pair of headphones?<SPAN> Sounds like a win-win, as they say.

I fail to see how it would be in Creative's interest to not replace a pair of headphones rather than an entire player.Message Edited by SSR on 07-8-2005 02:06 PM

  • Win8/T500 headphone jack stopped working. Conextant Audio Software issue?

I have a T500 - 2081CTO, and in the last week or less, the headphone jack has stopped working. There was a windows update recently so I'm assuming that's the culprit. I typically let it do it's auto-update thing without paying much attention, so I don't know what exactly changed or why it would kill the headphone jack. I've tried looking for Conextant drivers, but those don't seem to have changed since 2011. Win8 and the T500 has always been a bit flaky, but this at least has always worked. How can I test that it's the software and not a hardware issue? And if it is software related, what do I need to fix it?

I now think that it's possible there wasn't a "problem" so much as an inconvenience. While at home, I incrementally re-installed everything that I still wanted and saw no problems with the headphone jack. However, once I returned to work and connected the laptop to my dock with USB speakers, the USB always take precedence. Previously, the computer would recognize that headphones were plugged in and switch from USB to internal (ie. headphone jack) as default, and switch back to USB when the headphones were removed, always skipping the on-board speakers. That ability now seems to be missing and I need to manually set the internal speakers as default whenever I plug in headphones and manually back to USB when they're removed. Is there any way to get this functionality back? I loved how it "just worked" before. Now it's "just broken".

  • Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Microphone Buzzing Issues

    Hi there,
I have just built a brand new PC with a Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Soundcard.
Basicly the issue I have is whenever I enter a 3D program (game) the microphone I have plugged in starts giving buzzing feedback and i can hear a very faint buzzing through the headphones. Ive tried this in various different programs, L4D2, WoW, BF2BC, all of them have the same issue. When I am on the desktop everything sounds perfect, there is no microphone interferance and the soundcard is silent unless I choose it not to be.
I have tried updating the drivers, installing alchemy and basicly everything I can possibly think of. This is the second card that has done this and I believe it to be a driver issue instead of hardware.
Is anyone else experiencing the same problem as me? Im getting sick of it now.
    The system specs:
    Quad Core
    ATI Radeon HD5970
    2GB of RAM
    PCI-E X-FI Card
    Windows 7 64-Bit
    Thanks

Ok. After much toiling I found that my cable management was the problem. All wires that run electrical current through them create a magnetic field. When you get a bunch of them gathered together (especially the dual 8-pin power to the video card) they create a lot of interference with the wire for your front audio jacks and can also affect your rear inputs/outputs as well. If you separate these wires it should dull, if not eliminate, the buzz. There also can be issues with grounding your power and making sure that you run clean power into your system (most battery backups can accomplish this). I hope that this information is referenced by all of the people who have been dri'ven into insanity by the annoying, but subtle, buzz. Good luck!

  • Headphone buzzing sound.

Hi guys, I got an X505-Q870 last week and I think I have a problem. When I use headphones with it there is a very annoying buzzing sound.
The buzzing isn't from the headphones, I put them in my other laptop and there is no buzzing, and when I try different headphones on my Qosmio the buzzing is still there.
The buzzing is always there but it gets REALLY loud when I open up a browser or if I play a game. If I turn World of Warcraft on it's so loud I can't use any headphones.
I plan to take the laptop back to J&R and exchange it for another, but I thought I would try here first.
Is this normal? Is there a way to fix it?
    Thanks
oh yeah,  I do not hear the buzzing from the speakers, only when I use headphones.

I've Denon AHD-2000 headphones and same issue exists in my new Q898 even if windows sound is muted. Other sources except Qosmio gives no buzzing sound while idle with my headphones, my PC with top class sound card and even my Omnia cell phone.
I think there is a problem with the design of line out/headphone jack in the Qosmio series.

  • Headphone sound issues

Okay, so my I love my HP Stream 13-c010nr, but using headphones in the headphone/mic jack is nearly impossible because of this very bad, and high pitch, buzzing sound. I've attempted to re-install the Realtek HD audio driver, but it's made no difference what so ever, and I'm getting to my whits end. Any ideas/suggestions on how to fix this issue?

    WildDoves,
If possible return your HP pc and get your money back. Then wait for HP and Microsoft to fix this on going issue.
Ham123,   ps: Microsoft has it's head in the clouds and HP somewhere else. It could be a long wait.

  • Headphone buzzing/interfere

I just bought an X-Fi Xtreme Audio to replace my crappy onboard audio, and there is one problem that I've found so far. Whenever I use the front headphone jack on my Antec 300 case, I get a constant clicking sort of static buzz in the background. Also, every few seconds, there's a higher pitched sound that comes in. If I had to peg it I'd guess it sounds like a hard dri've spinning. It's almost like I hear the inner workings of my computer. It's very annoying, and I'd like to know how to fix it. I already have the latest drivers intalled.
My headphones aren't cheap, they're a pair of Sennheiser HD280 Silvers, so I don't think they're the problem. Sometimes, the buzzing never goes away, unless it's masked by much louder noises, say in a movie or a game. Other times, it's not present UNLESS I start a movie or a game. The higher pitched noise is always present, though.
I've tripple checked the HDA connector that goes from the front ports to the sound card, but it's solid.
This had also happened : with that onboard audio I mentioned, and 2: on my older Dell computer before I built this one, but I don't remember it being as bad. It was still with the front headphone jack (when I use front here I'm talking about the one on the front of the tower). I'd like to get this issue taken care of so I can use my headphones as they were meant to be!
    Thanks in advance.

  • T500 Startup/Video Issues

    I have a Lenovo T500 with a 2.8 GHZ Processor, 6GB RAM and 300 GB HD.
It has the Intel card as well as the Radeon 3650 card.
What would happen is the screen would go blank after the "Starting Windows" screen, and then the computer would restart.
I looked in Event Viewer and saw tons of video errors, so I uninstalled the video cards. You'd think they'd reinstall, right?
    No.
Also, the drivers kept getting uninstalled, for the Richoh Card/MMC, Power Management drivers, etc. I figured those might be interfering with the computer starting up properly. Fixing startup was a hassle, as the Windows CD wouldn't boot past the Starting Windows screen...and said I didn't have the proper version of Windows..but I did. Eventually, rebullding the BCD in Safe Mode helped.
WELL, I just reinstalled all of the "Unknown drivers" again and reinstalled the 3650 card and restarted. All of the unknown drivers were back and the video card wasn't present in Device Manager. So, I did a system restore, because I had just made a restore point before restarting after I tracked down all of the "unknown drivers".
The System Restore happened....and now...after the Thinkpad screen...it goes blank. And stays that way. The "Press any key to boot from CD" doesn't come up...as the screen is just blank. I can only boot into the BIOS.  Even F8 doesn't bring up the other startup options (Safe Mode, Directory Services, Last Known Good Configuration, etc) There's only so much I can do in the BIOS that has to do with the video drivers giving me so much trouble.
Is there any way, I can fix this? I've never heard of this happening and didn't understand why the drivers kept uninstalling and why my video driver wouldn't work. And when I say the screen goes blank...the laptop starts up....the "Press the blue Thinkpad button" screen comes up...and the screen doesn't turn off...just nothing shows up. I was going to do a repair install and just reinstall my drivers, but seeing as I can't get past the Thinkpad loading screen...or even boot from CD to do a fresh install, I am completely at a loss.

If anyone else ever has this problem, here's what I did:
When it wouldn't boot past the Starting Windows screen, I restarted, pressed F8 after the Thinkpad Screen and booted into safe mode with networking and ran "msconfig" as an admin and removed everything from services that wasn't Microsoft and removed every startup program.
As for booting up blank...I opened the laptop up, removed the RAM, removed the CMOS battery for a few minutes, removed the battery and plug and pressed down on the power button, put them all back in...and it booted up with the screen on.
I then, pressed F1 to get into the BIOS. I selected Internal/Integrated Graphics and disabled "Switchable graphics".
Through trial and error, and looking on here, I've realized my AMD Radeon 3650 card is dead. When Switchable Graphics is on in the BIOS, I cannot boot past the Thinkpad screen. I am not surprised. Laptop has been shutting down when I watched Youtube or Tumblr videos and games have been crashing.
Unfortunately, I have to use the Intel 4 Series Driver. However, I am using a modded driver that seems to let me play games. I will report back on if I still have overheating issues. Thanks ColonelOneill!
Your suggestion was the step to being able to boot and I really appreciate it.

  • ThinkPad T500 Screen Resolution Issues

    Dear All,
Wonder if anybody can provide any advise on the following issue(s):
Just bought a T500 Centrino vpro, running on XP professional, 15" screen. Really happy with it, its fast and all. However, there seem to be only a few screen resolution options available. On my old Acer Travelmate, I used to have a 1024x600 which suited my myopia just fine. The closest setting to this one seems to be the 1024X768 but it is not great 'cos items appear a tad out of focus.
I understand the T500 i just bought was built to accommodate Vista (as a side note, a Vista Business tag with serial number can be found at the back of my laptop although the machine came with XP pro preinstalled..This leads me to my other question: What happened to my Vista?) and this perhaps explains the limited resolution options available and the fact that apart from the native setting all other resolutions available are not optimal.
    Many thanks in advance.

There are several methods to increase the font sizes on your screen:
    1) right click on desktop.
    2) select personalize
    3) select adjust font size (DPI) under the task list on the left
    4) select the larger font size that is available.
Sometimes there are fonts that are just too small to read on the web browser.
Hold down your Ctrl key and use the mouse scroll button to increase the font size.
Alternatively Press the blue Fn button on the keyboard and then press the Space bar.

  • T500 wake up issues

I'm about ready to kill this thing.  For some reason that I have yet to discover, my t500 will periodically fail to come to life when I open it.  I open it, and it just sits there - the screen does not come on, and no combination of keystrokes seems to wake it up. Every time, I have to hold down the power button and restart it to get it to do anything.
A connected issue seems to be that it does not hibernate, if I am using the right term, when I close it down. I'll notice that when I get home from work, for instance, it has been running in my bag, is warm and the fan has been running to cool it off. The little moon LED is off when I get it out, but when I open the cover, nothing.
Any ideas? I'm on the move with this thing all the time- it happens a couple times a day, sometimes.

This can happen if windows gets stuck in the process of sleeping and or hibernating.  However, I have not noticed this happening since installing the latest power manager and bios updates,  I would start there.  Also, if you are leaving any devices like a wireless mouse dongle attached (which I do) if the mouse is left on it can wake it up continually.  This also would be true if you have bluetooth enabled and have it either searching for devices to pair or are carring a device which is turned on which can wake the system.
Just a few things to check..  you may want to go through your power settings and make sure you do not have any conflicting settings configured which may cause it not to hibernate properly.
    Best of luck!

  • In-ear headphones buzzing

I got some new in-ear headphones a little bit ago. The right ear has this buzzing/crackling sound. Is there any way to fix it or get a replacement pair?

If you're within the return policy, you can take them back for an exchange. Otherwise, they are covered by a 1-year warranty in which you can get them replaced at a Genius Bar or your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider.

  • New MacBook Pro Headphone Jack Issues

Hi, I just got my MacBook Pro barely a week ago and I've noticed an issue when using headphones or external speakers when plugged into the headphone jack. It seems that the computer won't recognize that I have something plugged into the jack, sound just keeps playing through the laptop speakers and not the device connected. I can duplicate this at will:
Play music through headphones plugged into computer, hit pause. Disconnect headphones and play music through laptop speakers, pause music again and connect headphones. Hit play, and the sound continues to play through the laptop speakers and not the headphones... The only way I can remedy this is my restarting my machine (PITA) or by shutting the lid and waking the computer up. (Still a PITA) Is there a fix for this? I'm updated to the most recent version, 10.6.8 . I never had this issue with my old MacBook Pro pre unibody. I've read elsewhere that another solution is to go into System Preferences > Sound and click "Output" and change the setting "use adio port for" from "sound input" to "sound output" I don't even have those settings listed in my Output tab... Please help!

Well, the issue has been resolved. The solution was to reset the SMC/PRAM. I thought about doing this but I didn't think I would need to on a brand new computer . At least its back to working order and I didn't have to be without my machine.
To anyone with this issue, just reset the SMC/PRAM

  • Bluetooth headphones playback issues with iOS 6

Has anyone been experiencing some playback issues with the latest iOS 6 and Bluetooth headphones?
A few weeks ago, I bought a pair of Sony's MDR-1RBT Bluetooth headphones and ever since I updated my iOS devices (4S &amp; iPad 2), playback of tracks has been lagging for the first few seconds. Whenever I choose a song on my iPhone or iPad's player, I just can't hear its first 3~10 seconds. I've contacted Sony about this issue and they bluntly replied that it's Apple's issue, but when I contacted Apple, they referred me to their Bluetooth connectivity site. In other words, my problem still hasn't been solved.
Could anyone help me solve this frustrating issue?
    Thanks.

  • Bose bluetooth headphones pairing issue

I have an iPhone 5 32Gb and an iPad 3 32Gb.  I had both running iOS 7.1 and my Bose Bluetooth headphones worked exactly as they should.  One of the great features of these is that they can pair to the iPhone and iPad at the same time, meaning that I can watch a video on my iPad and when the iPhone rings, it rings through the headphones and pauses the video.
Since upgrading both devices to iOS 7.1.1, I can only pair to one of them at a time.  Let's say that I am paired to my iPad, but now want to use my headphones to listen to music on my iPhone.  I now have to go into Bluetooth on my iPhone, have it forget the Bose headphones and then repair.  If I want to go back to my iPad, I have to go through the same process for the headphones to work on that device.
Has anyone else come across this issue?  From briefly looking at this forum, Apple seems to have made a mess of Bluetooth in this iOS release.  Any ideas on a fix?

I actually did both iPhone and iPad tethered to iTunes. I favour doing this instead of OTA.  The iPhone was a replacement from Apple and immediately updated through iTunes to iOS 7.1.1.
@Peter Gillespie, are you using an iPhone and iPad with your AE2?

  • Headphone jack issues 15" MPB Early 2011

So I've been having an issue with my laptop for a few months, and I haven't been able to figure out or find a solution. So the headphone jack works perfectly in that it still sounds excellent, but there have been a few issues with it.
Whenever there isn't sound playing on my computer for about 10~15 seconds a loud click goes through whatever is connected to my headphone jack (usually headphones). Following is a sort of odd static that stops once another sound happens on my computer. This hasn't been an issue lately as I've just been running background ambient noises to both lighten the mood that finals bring, and also to stop the annoying clicking that happens. It's especially bad when I plug from the 1/8th inch port through some sort of cord adapter to larger monitors, as the initial click of plugging something into the heaphone port can be quite jarring.
I've already tried resetting the logic board and doing all the normal reboot options, so I was just wondering if anyone has had the same issue as me, and if so how did you solve it?

ok, so, using this idea, I stayed in the sound panel, and plugged/removed the headphone.
What I didn't realize was that the jack actually snaps when it's properly in (on the mac side)
so, basically I wasn't plugging it in far enough.
Thank you for helping me figure it out.
