T510 2nd External Monitor No Longer Working

Hey Guys,
Hopefully someone can help me out
Came into work with my T510 and inserted on to my Lenovo docking station type 4338. For over 2 years now I had it working with 2 external monitors and also the built in monitor display from the laptop. Now I can only get the built in monitor and monitor 2 (VGA on the docking station) to display.
It detects the 3rd monitor but when I try to extend to it everything goes black and I have to wait for it to time out or pop the laptop off the station and insert it back on.
If I try choosing just the 2 external monitors and close the laptop lid only monitor 2 displays and monitor 3 disconnects itself automatically.
Monitor 3 is connecting using a Display Port to VGA
I have tried 2 other monitors, same results. I have tried DVI and it makes no difference. I tried 2 different docking stations same results and I even reinstalled Windows 8.1 on the laptop hoping that would resolve the issue but it has not.
I know this can work because I had it working before. And the fact that I cant get 2 externals to display with the laptop screen closed is a telling sign something else is going on.
Thanks for all the help and suggestions hopefully to come!

I was able to solve the issue.
For some reason my BIOS must have reverted back to just Intels intergrated GPU. I had to boot to BIOS and change the video setting to Optimus, I believe that is what it is called.
Once the change was made Windows 8.1 was able to install the drivers automatically, another reboot and all monitors now work.
Hope this helps someone in the future!

  • External Monitor no longer works after 10.5.8 Update

I just downloaded 10.3.8 update and my Fujitsu external monitor no longer works with my Imac 24". The same thing has happened to a friend who has the same iMAC and similar external monitor. Is this Apples way to get us to use Apple products only or is this a big with the update? Any ideas? Thank you.

    Hello
Try disconnecting all external peripherals, then shutdown your Mac, pull out all power cord, if it is a portable, take out the battery and leave it as it is for at least 5 minutes... 15 mins best.
Then power back your mac and see if the FW ports are working
    Cheers

  • External monitor no longer works after installing iLife '09

Before, the external monitor (Apple Cinema HD display) connected via DVI to Mini-DVI adapter was working fine. However, after installing iLife '09 and restarting, the iMac will no longer detect the external display attached to it. I even tried installing a different (but same model) display but it still will not detect.

I'm not sure how installing an application would cause that to happen. Have you shut down (powered off) the iMac completely, and then restarted, since this problem occurred?
Some display settings are stored in PRAM, so if you have not already, try resetting PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If that does not help, you can try disconnecting the iMac from power and reconnecting it, using the reset SMC (power management) procedure.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
When you reconnect it, initially connect the iMac to a wall outlet, by itself. Leave all peripherals disconnected, except for your USB keyboard/mouse. Make sure it is working properly, then connect only the external display.
If it still does not work, as a test, start up with your Mac OS X installation disc. You are not installing anything, but note if the second display is displaying the background image or not when you are booted from a different system.

  • External Monitor no longer working after install of 10.4.3

    Hi:
I am having some major issues after the last update with my external monitor, Dell 1905FP. I have a PowerBook G4 15in, 1.5 processor. Prior to the update I had no issues utlizing the monitor while closing the clamshell but after the update I was unable to utilize the rotation to portrait view on my monitor, with the clamshell closed. It would work on standard view to close the clamshell and then wake the computer utilizing a USB device or bluetooth keyboard.
I decided to after repairing permissions, disk utility, utilizing a DVI and the Analog cord with adaptor, creating a test user account, resetting PRAM and NVRAM and such to try reapplying the combo updater. This further broke the problem as I was unable to close the clamshell and wake the computer up to utilize the external monitor, even in standard (landscape view). When I do close the clamshell with the external monitor hooked up and then wake the computer with my mouse or keyboard the external monitor does power on and shows a lot of static and such not allowing me to see my desktop, but I can see the mouse cursor.
The external monitor works just fine, so long as I leave the lid open and if it goes to sleep with the clamshell open, it wakes just fine and the monitor works. This problem only occurs when I close the clamshell. I prefer the clamshell closed because it gives me the full screen that I desire in portrait mode due to the great amount of writing I do (it allows me to see a full 1 1/2 pages of text in Word while writing).
Another monkey wrench is that I was able to use another monitor, a 17in CRT and it worked just fine, I could close the clamshell and wake the computer utilizing my mouse as I have always been able to. However, I do not believe the Dell monitor is broken, given it will work with a PC laptop perfectly.
Does anyone have a clue on what this issue could be and a possible fix. I have used my Mac exclusively for a little over a year and I am just learning how to troubleshoot this. My thoughts would be to throw away the preferences in the system and then try hooking up the monitor again (as if it were a new monitor)but I have no idea what preferences to throw away.
    Any help is appreciated!

  • After updating to Lion my external monitor no longer works!

I used a external lcd tv to use split screen on my Macbook Pro. After updating to Lion this week it no longer works. First I thought it was my HDMI adapter but I have replaced it and nothing is still working. I've read that people using more than one problem have been having issues but i just have the one external monitor. Help Please!

I found a discussion thread here which seems to do the trick.  Like you I've authorized, de-authorized etc, but renaming the files seemed to be the only thing that worked.  Here's the detail:

  • Laptop monitor no longer works, and neither does external monitor

My laptop has always had a severe problem with overheating when running even the simplest games, and the fan area in the upper left consistently reaches temperatures unbearable to touch. Using software to find internal temperatures I have found that the CPU usually is about 100 degrees celsius just standing by, and reaches upwards of 130 degrees Celsius when running games. If it ever went much past 130 it would usually shut it self down so it wouldn't fry, but recently the heat seems to have caused the hinge in the area to become ridiculously stiff to the point where the tension cracked the case. This caused the hinge to come out of the casing  which placed strain on the cable running through the hinge into the display. I eventually managed to get the hinge back inside the case after it being outside for a few weeks or so, but it didn't seem to matter because a few days later the monitor stopped working completely. It was now just white instead of displaying picture and my first thought was to use an external monitor temporarily but that didn't work either.  When booting up the computer the power and fan turn on and the wireless light turns on, first orange then white,  and the caps lock key will turn it's light on when pushed.  I'm not sure why an external monitor won't work but if anyone can at least help me get that working if not the laptop screen it would be awesome, thanks!

  • T400 Win7/64 Advanced Dock -- External Monitor No Longer Comes When Booting

    My configuration:
    T400 (2767-14U)
    Windows 7 64bit
256MB ATI Radeon 3470HD (switchable graphics running in "High Performance")
    Advanced Dock (2503)
Lenovo D221 Monitor (using VGA cable)
I used the above configuration without issues for a year.
    My problem:
I just replaced my hard drive, clean installed the OS and all applications, and updated all drivers and the BIOS using System Update. Since doing that, my external monitor no longer comes on when I boot my computer  in the dock (lid closed). The only way I can get the external monitor to work is to boot my computer first, and then "hot dock" it.
As far as I know, all of my BIOS/Power/Graphics settings are the same as always.
Thanks in advance for any help!

  • HP Pavilion external monitor has stopped working with my Macbook Pro (Mid 2012) with OSX 10.8.3

HP Pavilion external monitor has stopped working with my Macbook Pro (Mid 2012) with OSX 10.8.3.  When I purchased the monitor a few weeks ago it worked perfectly when computer was in clamshell mode or with lid open. Now external display has stopped working.  When I turn on display it scans for signal but does not find it and then immediately goes into sleep mode.  I am using a DVI connection with the adapter for the mini display plug.  REALLY FRUSTRATING. • My keyboard and my external buttons no longer work.

I guess it's probably a hardware problem and I'll have them repaired, but I am informed anyway.
Last night, suddenly my keyboard, trackpad and all my external buttons no longer work. Only my touch screen works, but no back button, a BlackBerry is not very useful.
It may be software, but I updated yesterday the operating system. But I find it strange that all the external buttons do not work together.
What could be the problem. If I have to go to the workshop, I want to know as much as possible.
    Thanks !

Evolution, keyboard work again, but screen close often (lock button), probably humidity

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA isn't working. It won't recognize any external monitor. It worked just fine with my older spring 2011 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, but now with my brand new 2012 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion, it no longer works

I just bought a new MacBook Pro this summer and was all excited. But I'm very frustrated right now because I can't connect to any external monitors through VGA. My thunderbolt (DisplayPort Mini) to HDMI works just fine, but when I try with my other connector to go from Thunderbolt (DisplayPort Mini) to VGA, Nothing works. my screen goes blue and changes size like it recognized something but nothing is ever detected on the external moniter or projector. I'm not sure what is wrong but it's very frustrating. I'm just very depressed that it worked just fine with my 2-year-old MacBook Pro but isn't working now. I'm running OS X 10.8.2. I just upgraded yesterday from 10.8.1 but that upgrade did nothing to fix my problem. Can anyone help? Thanks

I am haveing this exact same issue. I have plugging in 3 monitors and tried two different VGA to mini displayport and nothing is working. I recently bought a Acer monitor and it work for an hour and now it back to doing the same thing.
When I plug the VGA adapter in to the monitor the monitor think its not connected to a computer then when disconnecting the VGA adapter the monitor thinks it is connected to a computer.
NEED SOME HELP!!! at the point of all my hair is pulled out.

that is the same problem i am having! if anyone can help that would be great i'm losing my mind over here

  • External monitor simply not working - including with external dock (dual screen)

I can't get the external monitor (aka dual screen) to work on my T60 via the VGA port. My model is currently running Windows XP and has a ATI Radeon X1300 video card.
I'm 6 months out of warantee (although this problem started while in warantee but I can't convince Lenovo of that).
    I've tried the following:
    - ensuring "extend my monitor onto this desktop" in windows display properties
    - disabling/enabling Presentation Director and trying all the schemes
    - setting all different combinations of modes for resolution/colour on both (LCD + VGA) monitor
    - trying two different monitors and cables (which did work with other computers)
    - Updating the video drivers (from the Lenovo website) and Presentation Director to the latest versions
I then figured it might be a hardware fault, so I tried to see if the external monitor was activated on bootup. I made sure the "LCD + VGA" option on boot was selected in BIOS. Still no joy.
Finally, I figured the actual VGA connector was broken so I bought a compatible mini docking station (port replicator) and attached the VGA cable to that and even that didn't work.
What on earth could be wrong if it's not the software and not the VGA connector? The video card is working as its powering the LCD display?
Is my only option to give it in to repair (I can't afford that)?

    Hi,
Does the external connections and cables work with another system. I'd do that first.
If all of it works with another system then it could be drivers or internal things but try that first.
There are some driver updates on the Lenovo site. Make sure your BIOS are updated and such.
    Good Luck,
Yup, checked the cables and monitor with another system (actually with the same laptop using a USB->VGA adaptor which isn't a long-term fix)
Also updated to all the latest driver including a BIOS update (which I forgot to mention).
    thanks,

  • External display no longer working - stuck at blue screen

Hi everyone. I just don't know what in the bloody **** happened here.
Everything was working fine, I even had my macbook 13 upgraded to 10.5.6 and it always worked fine with my external DELL 2007WFP screen thru DVI cable and miniDVI adapter.
Suddenly when I got home today and plugged the miniDVI adapter, I saw the screen blinking forever at the blue screen that usually fades out to both screens with extended desktop turned on.
If I unplug the miniDVI adapter, everything gets back to normal on the macbook screen. I plug it again, I get the blinking blue screen.
Tried rebooting, unplugging everything else from the external screen, no luck.
If I boot the macbook with the external screen on and the macbook closed, then it is recognized fine and I can use it, but when I want to use both screens, it will blink again.
I need to use both screens as that's how I arranged my workspace.
Again, everything was working fine yesterday.
    Thanks

Did you ever figure out what was doing this, and more importantly, did you get it fixed? I have the same thing happening to my macbook 13. It has worked fine in the past with external displays, both mini-DVI to DVI and mini-DVI to VGA, and many types of monitors/projectors. All of a sudden last week, i try to connect to my external monitor and I get the flashing blue - dark blue - light blue - repeat...
I tried the command-f1 trick to switch displays, and it sits there for a second, my desktop will flash onto the external monitor for a second, and then it'll give up and go back to the repeating blues.
I ran the hardware test, both the short and the long, to no avail.
I tried with the lid closed and an external mouse and keyboard. I tried this both from the startup and from when the laptop was already on.
Any ideas? Time to go to the genius bar?
