T61 External Monitor Port Failure Question

I have a Lenovo T61 8897-cto (purchased 4/2008) with what I believe is a failing backlight.  In dim environments I can still see the screen.  I've  been temporarily using an external monitor, but the external monitor just went blank and I can't get it back, (the external monitor works fine with another laptop which I'm using now).  My question is, does this new fault point to a system board failure?   I suppose it could be a connector but I don't move the system often and not recently.  The only other things that comes to mind is that the battery is dying and only has 50% of its capacity left, (but I always run it with the AC cable plugged in).
I'm just wonder if it is worth putting any money into this laptop or to parts it out.  I've already ordered a replacement W510 which I should get in under 2 weeks. I was thinking about using the T61 as a backup or dedicated to Ubuntu, but I can buy a used one for under $600 so I don't want to dump $400 into to have it repaired.
Any suggestions/prior experience with failing LCD displays and external video port?

1400x1050 is the highest screen resolution, so I guess that is SXGA+ No, I've never spilled anything on the laptop. I'm running Windows Vista Pro latest Service Pack. I rebooted the system this morning and the external display was detected and used during the boot process. It started to work again under Windows. I'm starting to think that it was some sort of power saving mode that failed to re-initialize. The main laptop screen is still dim, but readable in a dark room. It does have a bit of a tint to it, which I've read is an indicator of a failing backlight. I've checked the warranty on the Lenovo website and they've indicated that it has expired.

I’m having trouble indentifying the external monitor port. Its larger than the newer ports that are on the later MacBook and MacBook Pro it has 2 rolls of teeth and is taller then the later models. I would like to buy an adapter to hookup another monitor but nobody seems to know what i'm talking about. My Model is a MacBook 2,1  with an 2.16 Intel core duo.
It is a white model. Below is a phot of the port.. Any help would be great...

  • T61 external monitor permenantly in sleeping mode

    Greetings,
I want to run an external monitor with my T61 for desktop extention.  It was working fine, until I once booted up my PC before having switched on the external monitor.  Since that day I have never been able to display anything on the monitor.  It is just showing black, and the power button light is just flashing, which I assume means sleeping/power saving mode.
I tried changing things on the BIOS, did not work. I even bought a minidocking station now, hoping that the new VGA-out would deliver results.  It also does not work.
I cannot believe the Thinkpad cannot cope with an external monitor not being on when the Thinkpad starts up.  How can I fix this?
It does not seem to be the VGA port, since the docking station option also does not work, right?
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Henning

Go into your display property, by right clicking your desktop, then select your second monitor and then tick the extend desktop box.

  • Satellite P100: Can I connect two external monitor to VGA & DVI port at the same time?

The Satellite P100 comes with two external monitor port. A VGA and a DVI. Can you have have two external monitor working at the same time? Can you have two external monitor as well as your internal display working at the same time (for a total of 3 display at the same time?
Here is what I have confirm:
Internal display + DVI connector display
    OR
Internal display + VGA connector display
    Is it possible to have:
DVI connector display + VGA connector display?
    OR
DVI connector display + VGA connector display + Internal display?

As far as I know this is not possible and you can use either DVI or VGA port.
For signal output can be used only one port for external display.

  • How do I use two external monitors with my laptop?

I have a new Pavilion dm4-301 d cl Entertainment PC.   My OS is Windows 7.   I am used to using two external monitors with a docking station.   This new laptop does not have a docking station.  What do I need to get  to use two external monitors?

Certainly not without a dock but even with, HP laptop docks pretty well limit you to one of the external monitor ports, even if there are two on the dock. We have used a device called an Atlona AT-HDPIX2 which is a usb to hdmi adapter. It provides a third monitor capability for a laptop....use the native external monitor port and the internal laptop display and then this device gives a third monitor which is full configurable from the Windows 7 display interface...clone, extend, etc. It allows full HD resolution and is responsive enough for even light gaming.  HP makes no true docking station for your laptop.

  • External monitor doesnt work

I was able to plug an external monitor into my T61 and have it work until I installed the latest Windows service pack. I am running XP in this laptop. I dont have a clue as to how to check settings for the external monitor port but I think something must be shut off.

I actually just solved the problem by downloading all the driver updates for my computer so no help needed on this.

  • T440 external monitor options and resolution

    Hi
I note that the T440 has VGA and DP external monitor ports
    Can anyone tell me...
    1. How many external monitors can I attach and use simultaneously?
    2. What is the maximum external resolution of those monitors?
    Thanks

The best connection is DisplayPort.  DP 1 and 2 are no different.  DVI is also a digital connection and high quality.  VGA is fine for most people but is not able to display some of the high end resolutions.
You can only use one connection in each of the numbered connection blocks.  For instance, you can use DP1 and DP2 at the same time.  You cannot use DP1 and DVI1 at the same time.  Nor can you use DP2 and DVI2 at the same time.

  • External moniter port

hi i have a hp 2000 notebook pc with no hdmi slot and only a external monitor port and 3 usb ports. so how do i connect it to my tv inorder to watch movies??

    Hi,
Based on the following specs, it has 1 VGA (15-pin) port:
       http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03476824
Connecting VGA (analog) port to HDMI (digital) port you need a converter, which is similar to one of the following devices:
       http://www.ebay.com.au/bhp/vga-to-hdmi-converter
Please note: your machine uses "AMD E-300 accelerated processor (1.30GHz)", you won't get what you hope for.
    Regards.

  • Hp 21-ho39 and external monitor

I have an external monitor I would like to hook up to my all-in-one. But it only allows me to hook up a wireless monitor. My computer does not see my external monitor.

While backwards wording, it might be similar to the one I showed.  Did you actually get one that supported Windows 8.1, as the one I linked does?  Also, did you install the software for it?

  • Ibook G3/300mhz - external monitor

Hello Everyone and salutations from the world of Medieval Mac!
Well I finally broke down and bought an OSX machine. Since I have a 3 and 1 year old I was limited to a purchase price of 70 dollars so I got a clamshell G3/300mhz ibook off of ebay. Lo and behold there is not external monitor port. I just recently discovered plate armour and regular hygiene (** plague) so..."Who knew?!?"
Anyhoo is there any way to run an external monitor off of the lonely USB port on this sucker? If so can it go through a USB hub so I can also use a keyboard designed for typing with normal sized hands (maybe I should take off the gauntlets)?

    Christian,
There was no video out in the early iBooks. Starting with the 366 and 466 MHz Clamshells there was a composite video out. After that they all had VGA outputs.
You can plug any standard Apple or PC keyboard into that USB port as well as an external mouse.

  • External monitor help

    Hi All,
I've just started working for a company that uses all PC's. I want to use my Mac but want to make use of their external monitors.
    2 Questions;
    1) What do I need to do to hook up to an external monitor?
    2) Would I be able to link to 2 external monitors?
    Thanks,
    D,

    Hi-
    Is the following your Macbook?
    http://support.apple.com/specs/macbookpro/MacBookPro_15-inchGlossy.html
If so, you have one DVI output, which can drive a DVI connected monitor, or a VGA connected monitor, using a DVI to VGA adapter.
The Acer monitor will connect to VGA (use the adapter), as will the LG.
To run both monitors, you will need some further hardware solution. This, I believe, will require costly splitters and adapters.

  • Pages Full screen view second external monitor

I use a 24" monitor as my primary display when i'm at my desk with my Macbook Pro. Is there anyway to get pages full screen view to display on the external monitor instead of the macbook pro screen?

    Jerry
Apple has sort of spoiled the multiple monitor thing, which before OSX used to be a great feature on Macs.
Apple tends to make assumptions about its users, based on whatever it is selling in its latest hardware.
Since so many large screen iMacs have been sold and the external monitor ports have switched numerous times, most users have given up trying to connect multiple monitors and many are probably even unaware it is possible.
It seems this includes the Pages' programmers who have slipped up on this.

You may want to try posting in the iBook (colors) Forum.
You have posted in the iBook G3 (Dual USB) Forum (the forum for the first all-white iBooks).

  • External monitor on T61

For many properly a simple question, but I rely do not know.
I have a T61 with nVidia Quadro NVS 140M, Intel Core Duo processor T7500(2.2GHz) and 2GB RAM. I use Win XP pro.
I would like an external monitor for use with Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom.
I am looking for a 24” monitor with 1920x1200px.But can my computer show this resolution? (I have no docking station)
I would like to use Lightroom in 2 screen mode, can anyone give me an answer?
    Best regards
    Sam

that can be handled easily on the vga, but due to the analgoue signal on the vga port, there will be lot of noises on the external large monitor (like discolouration, flickers, etc).... i would definitely suggest you get the dvi support on the dock.
