T61p : LCD backlight on but no image

Hello,
I have a T61p with an WUXGA screen that stopped working recently.
It started doing this sporadically but now it is definitive, only the external screen works.
Most of the time it is used with an external screen, like 99% of the time, if helpful at all.
So, using the Hardware Maintenance Manual, I've opened the laptop to check the connections.
I've been able to check all connections except the LCD video cable,
there's some tape on it and it's written to not remove it, I didn't by precaution.
Do you know if the tape can be safely removed to check the connection and put back again ?
Are there any other parts to check for inside the laptop for this problem ?
Thank you.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

If the screen is solid white, then it's the cable.
In your case - CCFL up but no image displayed - motherboard is a far more likely culprit.
Cable is a simple plug/unplug at both ends, very simple to check and verify...
Good luck.
Cheers,
George

  • IPhone 5, backlight works but there is no image on the screen. How do I fix the problem or get a replacement?

I have an iPhone 5 32GB that is less than a year old, I smashed the screen not long ago and had it replaced and now the backlight works but there is no image on the screen. Its fully working apart from the screen, can I get a replacement? Or how else would anyone suggest to fix the problem?

Make an appointment at the genius bar of your local Apple store or contact AppleCare. Some Apple Stores in the US can replace the display in an iPhone 5 for $149. If it requires more than that, a replacement phone will cost you $229.

  • E530 Blank/Black Screen, LCD Backlight On

This morning my E530 was working fine.  I rebooted for some Windows updates and when I came back, I noticed the screen was blank.
I powered off and back on and same thing.
Even after I pull power and battery and turn it back on, there's just nothing on the screen at all.  LCD definitely on.
System power is fine. Red light near keyboard comes on.  At one point, I hit ctrl-alt-delete and the screen went black/off for a second then lcd backlight on again, but still no text.
I even put a bootable CD in the drive and I could definitely hear that getting loaded after I power on.
I took out the CMOS battery for a few minutes and that didn't help.  Now when I boot, I get 2 beeps.  I guess the time needs to be set?
Is this almost surely a bad motherboard?  If there a videocard that can be replaced?  Could it maybe be the video cable?  Where is the LCD cable?  I can at least try to reseat that as a first step.  I took off the back panel, but didn't see anything there.
Anything else I can try?  Now that I'm getting the 2 beeps, I'm not sure the system is even trying to boot.  Is there any way to get it to continue past there blindly?
Is there a way I could connect an external monitor to it to test?  First, how do I get past the 2 beeps?  Then if I plug a monitor in, how do I get the display to go to the monitor?  If it's the m/b, I guess that wouldn't work either though.
If I was able to get it to boot, I suppose I'd see it on the network, even with no writing on the screen.  Before I reset the CMOS, I did check from another PC and didn't see it on the network.  Also, before the CMOS reset, I was just getting the blank screen, but it didn't seem like it was booting windows.
Any ideas? All help is appreciated.

The latetest August windows updates are crap. restore from system restore or from your PC's full image backup.

  • When Windows 7 Finishes Booting, LCD Backlight Turns Off

I had a working Windows 7 bootcamp partition on my MacBook Pro 13" for at least a year.  One day it started happening that when I would boot to Windows, the LCD backlight would turn off once Windows reached the login screen.  I could use a flashlight to see the screen (barely), so I know it's the backlight and not the whole screen.  In safe mode, it boots correctly.  I assume a driver update hosed the graphics, but I can't figure out what to remove/replace/reinstall to get things working again.  Any ideas?
The machine is an MacBook Pro "Core i5" 2.5 13" Mid-2012 model running Windows 7 64-bit.

It helps when you put your computer information (model/year and OS) in your Profile, it narrows down the problems sometimes.
If it partitioned the drive without any errors it has the oprion of letting you come back later to install Windows.
You "shouldn't" have any problems with your mouse or keyboard if they are wired. Windows does not have Bluetooth or Wireless drivers.
Is your computer 64 bit compatible? Here's some other links from @The hatter, read them throughly. This link is the dead one that is mentioned from @The hatter. They may or may be for your issues tho?

    What is the problem specifiaclly?
If the images are intended for web use I would recommend converting them to sRGB which could be done with Edit > Convert to Profile or with File > Save for Web, but as including a Save step in Actions and applying them as Batch can sometimes cause problems I would go with regular converting.
You could also try Image Processor Pro.

  • Imported from cf but all images are mixed up

I have downloaded LR for a 30 day trial.  I have succesfully imported images from
    compact flash memory card.
BUT The images have not downloaded in order of the time taken.  I therefore have a jumble of different photo shoots.
What do I need to do to avoid this happening again ?
How can I quickly sort these into the relevant folders so I can find them again eg: Wedding one, two, three
Thank U - Hoping someone can advise x

Try changing the Sort order from Added Order to Captured Time when in the Library module, either using the View / Sort menu item up top, or using the Toolbar along the bottom of the Grid view that you may need to make visible using the T key.
As far as sorting things quickly into relevant folders, what folder or folders on your hard-drive are the photos in, now, and do the folders already exist you want to move the photos to or will you be creating them?
The way I move photos from one folder to a set of folders I create, is to select the photos I want to move in the Grid view, then go over to the folder listing at the left and right-click on the folder than is above where I want to create a new folder, then choose Create Folder Inside "xxxxxxxx", type in a name and also make sure Include Selected Photos is enabled, and then click Ok.
If the destination folder already exists in the folder list at the left, then just right-click on that folder in the folder view at the left and choose the Move option.

  • IPhoto issues after 10.5 install, thumbnails but no image files

After installing Leopard I have found that random photos from different events in iPhoto 7.1.1 have completely disappeared. OK, not completely -- the thumbnail images remain but the image file is completely gone. Vanished, it would appear, from my hard drive. A spotlight search reveals nothing. I am finding more and more missing as I go about my business. I click on an image to edit or use in iWeb and I get a gray exclamation point.
I don't think that I have synched my iPod video since upgrading to Leopard so perhaps there is hope of recovery? Anyone know what is going on?

    1. You have allowed Apple to auto-upgrade your Mac
    Turn off auto-update here:
Menu > Apple > System Preferences > App Store
    2. The Icons on your dock are Aliases not real apps
They point to where the apps really are which is:
For Pages 5.2.2 in your Applications folder
For Pages '09 in your Applications/iWork folder
    3. You are alternately opening documents randomly with either version of Pages
Both Pages have the same file extension .pages and there is no certainty as to which version opens them when you double click on a file.
right click on the file and choose which version you want to open it
    4. Pages '09 can not open Pages 5 files
Pages 5 can not open Pages '08 files, and will convert and change Pages '09 and Word files.
It will also auto save opened files into its own format.
You can export these back to Pages '09 if you need to:
    Menu > File > Export > Pages '09
    5. Yes Pages 5.2.2 is a marked downgrade
Pages 5.2.2 has a few improvements but has had over 110 features removed and is buggy.
Sooner or later you will not be able to open a file or have it damaged in some way and it has a complex obscure file format largely incompatible with everything else, so you will not be able to rescue the contents of your file. If Pages or some third party server/eMail don't trash your file, eventually Apple will do it for you as it did when it released Pages 5 last September. I recommend using Pages '09 for the time being whilst you look for viable alternatives, some are here already and some are on the way.

    Me again,
A friend suggested that I do a system restore.
I did a search for system restore in Windows 7 and got a very intuitive menu.
I selected an earlier system restore point and executed the restore.
After the computer restart I reloaded Firefox 5.0 and the Ask.com problem was corrected.
My friend says this approach may work about 25% of the time to fix this kind of problem. In my case it worked and I am happy.
    Thanks all.

  • After screen replacement, top half of screen starts by looking normal but then fades to black while bottom half stays bright but with images blury. What might went wrong?

A friend recently gave me their old Macbook pro 15 because they broke the screen and the Apple store quoted them $500-600 to fix it. I looked online and bought a screen of ebay for $170 in hopes of fixing it myself. After getting the screen I hooked it up using the steps I found online. Sadly when I turned it on, the top half of the screen was working apparently normally, but then it faded to black. The bottom half stayed bright with color the whole time but the images were always blurred. When I close the screen with it on, then open it after turning the computer on, the top half lights up with my desktop images as if it is working fine but then fades to black. The bottom is still blurred the whole time. What all could be wrong? Display cable, Inverter cable, not registering the screen or something, the screen is bad? I don't now a ton about all this and I have learned most of what I know from online research. I am not sure if I should send the screen back or if there is another issue. I just want to fix this thing.

Unfortunately, you don't even know the lower half of the computer is working properly, because you didn't have it until after it had been abused. So forget the attached screen for the moment. Connect an external monitor to it, fire it up, and see whether you can get a usable image on the external screen. If you can, send the defective "new" screen back for a refund, or replace the LVDS video cable first to make sure that's not where the problem lies, and if it isn't, then resort to sending the screen back. If you can't get a good image on the external, give the junk machine back to your friend and walk away.

  • I just purchased Export PDF to Excel and it does not export anything usable. Your terminology should not be "export" but paste image, which is of no value. Please cancel my account and refund my money. What a shame you would advertise this as a product.

    Hi pgrillo,
I'm sorry that you're disappointed with your ExportPDF subscription. I checked your account, and see that the order is still processing. As such, I'm unable to cancel it for you myself. However, a Customer Care agent can take care of your cancelation/refund quickly. Here is the contact information: Contact Customer Care. Click Still Need Help? • When using Firefox certain videos play but the image is green and distorted.. help?

Firefox 3.6.8 and 3.5 (I downgraded to see if that would solve the issue)
    Windows 7
    Intel Core i5
    Flash Player: WIN 10,1,53,64
When using Firefox certain videos play but the image is green and distorted. The image turns into lines and sometimes it half of the screen of the video. Examples are streaming MLB.tv video and some vimeo videos. The odd thing is that it isn’t all Vimeo videos. Is this a flash issue?
The issue does not happen with Internet Explorer which leads me to believe this is an issue with Firefox. I downgraded to 3.5 and the issue still persists.

  • Hp TrueVision HD web cam does not work. The light will come on but no image appears in the window.

    Hi.
I have an HP Pavilion dv7 6178us Entertainment PC I just bought it last week. My operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 64 bits.
The problem I have is that yesterday I install Skype in the computer and realized that the HP TrueVision HD web cam does not work. The light right next to the web cam will light up but no image will appear on the screen.
I have checked the software that  I have in the computer for the webcam and the program is CyberLink YouCam BE version 3.5.
But the web cam does not work. The light right next to it will turn on when I activate Cyberlink, Skype or Messenger but no actual image will come out in computer screen. The computer is fully updated BIOS, Windows 7 and HP.
But the web cam is not working. Could you help me fix this problem?
    Best regards:
    JEIO71

    I have a pavilion dv6 notepad. it's about a year old.
about a month ago internal webcam truevision hd stop working.
Called hp tech. they sent a box for me to ship the laptop.
they hp tech attempted to correct the problem via internet
    did not work.
wanted me to do a restore to factory setting i stopped him there.
    Webcam detected in device manager.
the webcam light come on but no image.
I actually see the back drop through the image space.
    running windows 7, fully updated.
I found many comments on the web about the webcam connector disconnecting.
But if it was the case with my computer, the webcam would not be detected.
Many other comments suggests to do a restore to factory setting but \i read also that
    does not work often.
I read many comments where disappointed clients believe hp should update
the software but the driver is actually microsoft dating back to june 2006.
Is it possible it's  a hardware problem, ie webcam is burned out.
I have received a box to sent it and know they will do a system restore.
Don't feel to go that way.
Many comments refers to hp making an effort to get a driver update.
ps I decided to purchase a logitech webcam, works perfectly.
What else can I do to fix this problem.
Can hp send me another internal webcam.
