Tab just opens itself into a new window of it's own.

I usually surf a website that is a browser based mmo. I usually have 3 tabs open as I have 3 accounts. It is only recently that I have noticed 2 bugs/problems with FF, my main one being that FF will all of a sudden decide that one of my tabs must now suddenly be a seperate window of it's own. I know that I am not dragging the tab to form that new window, as it often happens when I have something else on top. The other problem, though more minor is that often when I start FF up it suddenly crashes without having loaded up, though when restarting it after that it opens just fine. Could someone please give me some ideas of how to solve this one.

Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the com.apple.Safari folder.
Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari.
If that didn't help, try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash.
~ (Tilde) character represents your Home folder.

  • When I click on an open tab sometimes it closes that tab and opens it in a new window. Why?

Sometimes when I have multiple tabs open and click on one it closes and opens in a new window. Sometimes I like this behavior, but have no idea how it happens.

Hello khoopes, how often is that ? do you have it soon enough , like one time in ten clicks on a tab ? can you check it in safe mode ?
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''

  • Whenever I right-click to open a link in a new tab, it opens it in a new window instead. How do I fix this?

The other night, I opened up a new window to do some school work, then accidentally saved that page instead of my usual page when I closed out, causing me to lose all my tabs. Since this happened, all the links I open in Firefox open in a new window, even though my settings are set that it should open in new tabs, and even when I right-click and hit "Open in a New Tab." Links from places besides Firefox (like MSN and such) still open in new tabs. What can I do to fix this?

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • When I right click on a link and click 'Open Link In New Tab', it opens it in a new window instead. How do I fix this?

This only started happening this morning and I don't know why its acting this way. I've tried clicking 'Open Link In New Window' but it also opens in a new window. Any help?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • How can I prevent a tab from chaning into a new window by itself

When I play a video, and open another tab, the tab with the video will sometimes change into a whole new window. I don't click anything specific to make the tab change into a window, it will just do it a few minutes after I open the new tab. Does anyone have a clue on how to prevent this. Thank you!

Make sure that you do not drag a tab in the browser window.<br />
Current Firefox versions have a feature called tear-off tabs.<br />
You can detach a tab from the current window and open it in a new window by dragging a tab in the browser window.<br />
You can drag that tab back to the tab bar in the original window to undo that detaching.

It is probably a JavaScript link.
You can probably force it where you want it with a keyboard shortcut
    either "Ctrl+click" or "Ctrl+Shift+click". see

  • Just recently this problem started - while I'm moving my mouse around the page that I'm looking at or scrolling around OPENS into a NEW WINDOW. It happens very frequently and is quite annoying. Thanks!

There doesn't seem to be a pattern to the mouse movement. It just happens when I move the mouse around. It opens the page up in a new window in front of the other tabs that I've been working on. It happens at least every two minutes.

Tools > Options > Tabs: [X] "Open new windows in a new tab instead"
You can look at the browser.link.open_newwindow prefs on the about:config page if you want to divert all JavaScript window.open() calls to a new tab.

  • Random automatic "current tab" pulled out into a new window

When building or editing sites with the help/use of firebug 1.9.1 and the web-developer tools, firefox will without asking or any other notice rip out the tab away from other tabs to make a new window for it in isolation. WTF!? i have to repeatedly drag the tab back into the previous window. Browser acts like it's highjacked doing crap all by itself

OK, well, I've come to narrow it down to just these two items
    1. Firebug 1.9.1
    2. Web Developer Toolbar, mainly the "Display Element Information Ctrl+Shift+F"
When these two are active through my editing/debugging and what not, the tab that i would be working on would by itself detach into a new window.
I though that i might have something to do with another add-on i used called Tab-tile which helped me see two pages at the same time, but it didn't seem so.
Please also note that the page i'm fixing is locally hosted, on my machine, and that i open the same page in two tabs next to each other with firebug active, and one tab using that web developer tool option mentioned above. Thus while editing and refreshing the tabs to see what differences are applied, that's when one of the tabs will become detached without any warning/notice. You'll know this happens when there appears, off course, two windows and it automatically closes firebug as well and disable the active web-dev tools option.
Thats if you would like to try what my problem looks like. This happens with both, Firefox 8 and 10, as far as i've tried to solve this.
If there is anything you know that may be causing this glitch, it would be nice to know so that i can make my workflow more fluent
    Thank you.

  • Everytime I click on one of my app tabs it removes it form that brower window and opens it in a new window! how do I get it to work right?

Clicking on an app tab shouldn't remove it from that browser window but it does, seems to sort of defeat the purpose of App Tabs in my opinion. then I have to drag the new tab back into the other browser window and then it works for a little while correctly.

  • How does one open something in a new window rather than a new tab, when browsing?

I much prefer how this used to be before I upgraded to the latest iOS, in this sense.
I do not like dealing with multiple tabs; there are times that a new window is just needed.
I am assuming that it is possible to open new windows and I just haven't figured it out yet.
Thanks for any and all help!

    Thank you for your comments.
Truthfully, I am shocked that this is the case and even more so that people didn't put up such a stink that Apple had to reinstate the old option. If I had to pick only one, which doesn't seem reasonable at all, I would choose the separate windows of old as opposed to the tabs.
Thanks again for your help; I was really hoping that I wouldn't be disappointed.

  • Creating a link in a PDF form to open into a new window

I have created the PDF form and every thing seems to be working fine. But I would like to set a link in the form that would open into a separate page. I have tried target="_blank" and onclick="window.open(this.href, 'child', 'scrollbars,width=650,height=600'); return false" with no success. Can someone give me some direction on how to create a link within a PDF form that will open into a new window?

    Try this, using JavaScript:
    app.launchURL("http://www.adobe.com",true);

  • I would like to open links in a new window but cannot find where to put the setting. Have unchecked the "Open new windows in new tab instead" box in the Options dialog box.

When I click a link on a webpage or other software, I would like for it to open in a completely new window.

You can hold the Shift key and click the left mouse button a link to open that link in a new window.
The setting in Tools > Options > Tabs is only for links that specify a target window and you can divert such a link to a new tab instead.

  • When I open a new windox in Firefox 3.6.10 on Windows XP, it opens not only a new window, but all my existing tabs reopen in the new window too--how do I fix this?

Whenever I open a new window in Firefox, it not only opens a new window with a new tab, it also opens all my existing tabs a second time in the new window. This has been happening for several days. Closing Firefox and rebooting doesn't solve the problem.
A related problem is that if I close all tabs and close Firefox, then reboot and re-open Firefox, all the tabs that were closed re-open too.
This is new behavior in Firefox in my experience.

Firefox opens the home pages in a new window, so if you want to open a new window blank then you need to set the home page to about:blank
You can check the startup setting:<br />
Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my home page" | "Show a blank page"
