Table/DDE vs hardware networking

I've been trying the DDE/Datatable method of networking as outlined in Appendix E of the Lookout Developer's Manual. I have had minimal success with this, which brings me to the question: why is this method preferable to only using symbolic links? Also, are there any example files out there?
Thanks.

Hi,
I guess the method is not preferable, but is legacy.
It was available LONG before symbolic links and was a good way to get multiple links by using the DDETable function in Windows (which was much faster than the DDELink option which would have a connection overhead per link).
Its real easy to get it to work with Excel, I have never got it to work with anything else!
Do you want to use Excel?

How to enable DDE communication and Network DDE DSDM on windows 7

    Hi,
For Network DDE to function, NetDDE.EXE needs to be installed and running on both machines before attempting to conduct a Network DDE conversation. NetDDE.exe is a Windows Service system file that is used to communicate the shared dynamic data exchange used
by Network DDE. It has no graphical user interface (it runs as a background Windows service).

  • Sometimes Local Address not in ARP table and Ping fails (network problem?)

I see something like this on our network a couple of times a week.
The same replies have been received from different hosts.
    ping fails
local subnet machine is not in arp table
    ping fails
local subnet machine is not in arp table
    traceroute may or maynot succeed
If traceroute succeeds an entry is in the arp table
if traceroute fails no entry will be in the arp table.
A netstat -s, ont the local host, doesn't show any thing strange except that udpNoPorts=10844982 (Unfortunately I don't know what udpNoPorts is)
    The remote host IS UP.
Does anyone have an idea as to why this is happening?
Can our 100mb network, which is not that busy, be loosing that many ICMP or ARP messages?
This is a problem because I'm the guy getting paged if a system is down.
Local host is Solaris 7 on same subnet at IP 168.173.8.8
Remote hosts are usually NT boxes.

    Hi,
I Think you need to do Teaming on the servers.
++ configure etherchannel between switch and the server.
configuring etherchannel b/w 4503 and server:

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk389/tk213/technologies_configuration_example09186a008089a821.shtml
Sample NIC Teaming - HP NICs with Cisco Switches (EtherChannel) :
    ==============================================
    http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX434260
There are several NIC teaming technologies available today from  switch vendors.  Cisco uses the term “EtherChannel.”  Various switch  vendors use various terms, and these may or may not provide the same  exact functionality. Use of EtherChannel technology requires support  from the server hardware vendor, NIC vendor, and Layer-2 switch vendor.
    Hope this helps

Mac OS X Server v10.7 does not show the ethernet link aggregated interface i created. Does Lion server support ethernet link aggregated interfaces?

    Thanks for responding Cold--
Hardware: Mac Pro  3.0 GHZ quad core xeon
I read the link but it still does not explain why the aggregated dual ethernet interface does not show up in the Network tab of the hardware section Lion Server. I was able to see it on the network and looks to be using a single static IP that I assigned. My concern was that is this supported and will it allow for failover and double performance of the single network interface.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks again!

  • Table to check WBS-Network-Material assigned to this network

    Hi All,
Plz advice. What table should i refer ,to check WBS element, network assigned to this WBS, and material assigned to this network.
    Thank you.
    Best Regards,
    Nies

    Hi Nies,
    Tables are as below:
    WBS elements - PRPS
Network -CAUFV or AUFK - Pass the WBS element as PSPEL
    Material - RESB .
Pass the reservation number into RESB. Obtain the reservation number from CAUFV table. You can pass WBSE ot Network number also. But RESB being a huge table, it is advisable to pass the key field "Reservation".

    Hi,
I was wondering whether anyone was willing to share their current network infrastructure for their OCS deployments.
In terms of type and specs of network cards used by the OCS servers that host the applications?
In addition to this I was wondering whether anyone has used the same windows server to host the web conferencing and voice/fax options or perhaps if this is possible.

    Hi
Project it is PROJ table where Project is PSPNR.
WBS it is PRPS the field is PSPNR,
the link is PROJ-PSPNR = PRPS-PSPHI (PSPHI is the project definition).
Activity Table is AFVC and the link is
PRPS-PSPNR(WBS elements of PRPS) = AFVC-PROJN (WBS elements of AFVC).
Network table is CAUFV and the link is

  • Bluetooth "unknown" hardware address showing up as Network Sharing address

On a brand new out-of-the-box iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) OS 10.7.3, the Bluetooth "unknownxxxxxxxxxxxx" hardware address showing up in Network Sharing preferences as shared name under File Sharing, Remote Login and Remote Management. the first portion is the same as the Bluetooth hardware address for the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Apple Magic Mouse that came with and is connected to this computer. I have an existing Magic Trackpad connected that has a completely different hardware address.
I have never seen this before, and it does not do this on my iMac (27-inch Late 2009) OS 10.7.3.
Any ideas? Is this an indication of a potential hardware/networking issue? Would a clean install perhaps clear it up? I would like to know if I should exchange the machine or if it's really nothing.
    Thanks!

On each of your machines, use
Applications -> Utilities -> Network Utility -> Info
and cycle through all the *Network Interfaces* checking the *Hardware Address*, which will be of the form nn:nn:nn:nn:nn:nn
and see if it matches 00:0d:93:b0:ef:be.
You will have to click on the *Network Interfaces* pop-up menu to select alternate interfaces to check their MAC addresses.
    Alternately, you can look in
    System Preferences -> Network
Select each interface, and click Advanced and look at the Ethernet tab. Repeat for each interface. Actually a lot more clicking.
Or from Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal use the ifconfig command. It will list all your network interfaces at once. You then have to dig through the output to find the MAC addresses.
    ifconfig
    or
    ifconfig | grep ether
If you have VMware or Parallels installed it will create a virtual ethernet interface.
And of course you have an ethernet MAC address as well as an Airport MAC address.
However, if you have in intruder, change your WAP2 password. That would knock the intruder off the LAN for a little while. If you did that and the address stayed, you could fairly sure that it was one of your systems as only you could get the new WAP2 password to your systems so quickly.
NOTE: It is not easy to crack WAP2. They would have to do some serious computing and or be very lucky guessing to crack it quickly.

  • Tables for PS Networks and Activities ?

    Hi all
I'm working in some development for create a PS report for Projects. I investigated the structure is   Project-WBS-Network-Activity
I know the table for Project is PROJ and the table for WBS is PRPS, but i don't know what tables are used for Networks and Activities.
Does somebody know these tables ?
    Thanks
    Frank

    Hi
I was checking the tables AFKO and AFVC, but i did not found some fields,
    1. Field APLZL does not exists in table AFKO, there is only a field APLZT. So, how can go from AFKO to AFVC ??
    2. Field SUMNE does not exists in table AFVC, there is only the field SUMNR, so how can i find if some record
    is Network or Activity ??
    3. About table AFKO, i search with field PRONR = Project;
but how can i link the Networks(Orders) with their

  • ?? configure network-cards under Sol. 8 ?? please heeellpplp

    Hi,
I'm a stand alone Solaris's user (at home). Since about 2 months I've installed Solaris 8 on my PC, and wont be able to configure my Internet-Connection and my privat Home-Network.
I'd already read about 500 different publication's pages, but wont be able to go any further. My main PC contain Solaris 8 and has two RTL-Network-Cards. One for the Internet Connection(LAN), and the other (interne hub) for my small privat network at home. I've read there should be two files named: /etc/hostname.XXX0, XXX1. But there arent such files to see by me. The only file I have is "/dev/hostname.". I've tried to create them and lunch some commands I've seen in some manual's page.
Result ===> some error messages by the boot sequence.
Please can anyone help? Without having these cards working, I can't have any Internet connection.
The OS (Solaris) is already working on my PC, and I love it. But the only problem is how to set up these damned hardware, Network-Cards, Sound-Card and. I don't really know how to start with.
Please help!! Dont want to give up and I will not! Please help me to enjoy that hard work.
    Thanks for helping.
PS: I'm connected to the internet trought Network (LAN), i.e I'm using a RTL 8029 PCI Ethernet network-card, and the interne Hub is also a RTL 8029 PCI Ethernet card.

yes. you got it .... eg..
    /etc/hostname.le0
    /etc/hostname.le1
in here put the hostname ... so at the shell prompt:
    # hostname <cr>
    should give your hostname.
now, in the hosts file: eg:
    # Internet host table
    127.0.0.1     localhost
    <your ip address> <your hostname>     loghost
    129.156.89.252 host2
you need to reboot after this.
if you get a 'bad address' error on boot,
you probably have a mismatch of hostnames/ip addresses somewhere in their respective files.
    also, see:
    # man hosts
    # man ifconfig

  • Airport Express working, PC connects to network but cannot use internet

I set up my Airport Express wireless network, and all is functioning. My IMac recognizes and uses the network. My PC laptop recognizes the network (excellent signal) and "connects" or indicates that it is connected, but I cannot access the internet. Have tried the power-down and re-booting sequences suggested in other posts. Does the PC just not work on a Mac wireless network?
    Thanks.

Ok, time to use the Ping tool for some additional troubleshooting. We will need to open another command window.
    1. Ping the loopback address to verify that TCP/IP is installed and correctly configured on the local computer. To do this, type the following command: +ping 127.0.0.1+
If the loopback test fails, the IP stack is not responding. This problem may occur if any one or more of the following conditions is true: a. The TCP drivers are corrupted, b) The network adapter is not working, or c. Another service is interfering with IP.
    2. Ping the IP address of the PC to verify that the computer was correctly added to the network. To do this, type the following command: +ping 10.0.1.3+
If the loopback test succeeds but you cannot ping the local IP address, there may be an issue with the routing table or with the network adapter driver.
    3. Ping the IP address of the default gateway to verify that the default gateway is working and that you can communicate with a local host on the local network. To do this, type the following command: +ping 10.0.1.1+
If the ping fails, you may have an issue with the network adapter, the router or gateway device, the cabling, or other connectivity hardware.
    4. Ping the IP address of a remote host to verify that you can communicate through a router. We did this earlier when you attempted to access Google through the web browser using Google's IP address. This time, we will try it via the Ping tool. To do this, type the following command: +ping IP address of remote host+
If the ping fails, the remote host may not be responding, or there may be a problem with the network hardware between computers. To rule out an unresponsive remote host, use Ping again to a different remote host.
    5. Ping the host name of a remote host to verify that you can resolve a remote host name. To do this, type the following command: +ping www.google.com+
Ping uses name resolution to resolve a computer name into an IP address. Therefore, if you successfully ping an IP address but you cannot ping a computer name, there is a problem with host name resolution, not with network connectivity. Verify that DNS server addresses are configured for the computer, either manually in the properties of TCP/IP, or by automatic assignment. If DNS server addresses are listed when you type the ipconfig /all command, try to ping the server addresses to make sure that they are accessible.
If you cannot use Ping successfully at any point, verify the following configurations:
o Make sure that the local computer's IP address is valid and that it is correct on the General tab of the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box or when it is used with the Ipconfig tool.
o Make sure that a default gateway is configured and that the link between the host and the default gateway is working. For troubleshooting purposes, make sure that only one default gateway is configured.
o Make sure that Internet Protocol security (IPSec) is not turned on. Depending on the IPSec policy, Ping packets may be blocked or may require security.
(Important: If the remote computer that you are pinging is across a high-delay link such as a satellite link, response may take longer. You can use the -w (wait) parameter to specify a longer timeout period than the default timeout of four seconds.)
