What is the need of tracking solution manager key ..Its more interesting for me!

This is interesting, SAP is pushing customers to have solution Manager installed with features like Solution Manager Key, Maintainance Optimizer etc. It will get difficult for customers who do not have solution Manager running on their site.
You will have to create support message under the component XX-SER-SMKEY and request for solution manager key, provide them all the details of your system.

We want to have one test system up and running but we are not interested in installing the solution manager.

During the installation of sap system it will prompt for Solution manager key, In sap-inst screen only it shows the
System ID: sp1
instance number: 00
Host name :
Enter these values while solution manager key generation, then it will work fine

im installin erp 6 ehp4- and i need to insert sm key-
i use with the TA "SMSY"
and generta a key -
i get a massege that -
"the Solution Manager key '07D8FD7DEB' is not valid. Enter the correct key for host 'newsap', the SAP system ID 'SP1' and the central instance number '00'".
i check tha parameter - and i get always the same number- and its uncorrect/

Can I create a solution manager key without applying license?
I need to know an answer to this , because I am installing a Netweaver 2004s component and during installation, I am being prompted for Solution Manager Key.
Can I use an unlicensed Solution Manager instlallation for genereating key?

Yes, for generating key, you can use the Solution Manager for which you have not installed license.

I am installing ecc6.0 on windows 2003 platfrom with 10g oracle database. I have problem providing solution manager key during installtion in the window.
my db hostname is : deleted
sap system id : deleted
central instance number: deleted
can any one help me please.

It is illegal to provide keys here.
You have to install a solution manager first before you can install an ERP 6.0 system - or open an OSS call if your Solution Manager is not (yet) available.

Solution Manager Key for EP '04 - EP 2004s

Well, we just started the upgrade of our EP '04 SP18 to EP 2004s ST11. However, the PREPARE is rejecting the Solution Manager Key (generated in SSM 3.2). We came across OSS Note 811923 which says:
For SAP ERP 2004 (SAP ECC 5.0), you require SAP Solution Manager 3.1 with Support Package 20, or SAP Solution Manager 3.2 with Support Package 4. You can also use SAP Solution Manager 4.0.
For products of SAP Business Suite 2005 (including SAP NetWeaver 2004s), you require at least SAP Solution Manager 4.0 with Support Package 9.
I guess we are hosed up until we upgrade our Sap Solution Manager system to 4.0. Does anyone know a work-around for this?

Hi Steven,
Not sure of any workaround for it but you have a couple of options;
1) Install a new solution manager 4.0 as a temporary work around to get a valid key
2) Raise an OSS message to request support to assist you.
Solution manager is really now a required utility system for your core apps. Even after you have the migration key it is likely that post migration you will have issues that may require patches from the service market place. As of April 2nd this year you need solution manager (4.0) Diagnostics for this.
For these reasons I would urge you to move to Solution Manager 4.0 sooner rather than later.

Hi Chris,
I understand the urgency. There are only two ways you can get a solution manager key. One by yourself. Otherwise, please create a message with SAP requesting a solution manager key temproarily. Unfortunately, even though we can create a solution manager key, it is not advisable to distribute the key in forums.

Solution Manager Key info for Migration

Hi Guru's,
As we are planning to migrate / system copy all systems like SAP Portal , BI & XI to a new hardware, from P5-P590 to P6-P570 (The OS version, TL level and Patch Level for the both LPAR's remains same, i.e No change on OS versions).
My question here is:
We have generated a solution manager key for all systems while installation, if we migrate any SAP system to a new hardware i.e. P6-P570, will the solution manager keys work in new environment for all systems? Our Solution manager server is also on P5-P590 environment.
As we are planning to migrate solman server also to a new env (P6-P570) from P5-P590, if the solmanger key doesnu2019t work on new env, do we need to migrate the solman server first to a new env and generate a new solman key and assign the key to the migrated systems on new env.
Note: We are doing as is migration, i.e. hostname, SID & IP remains same.
I hope my question is clear and understandable.
Please provide your valuable inputs / suggestions for the migration and also provide any link for the migrations.
Points will be awarded for each valuable answer.

Hi,
If your operating system is Unix ( any flavour ) then you can create the same mount points on new hardware ( except rootvg - operating system ) and copy entire contents from old hardware's mount points to new one. You need to take care of users , groups like ORA<SID>, and <SID>ADM , DBA, SAPSYS etc. In that scenario your hardware key will change so you need to apply new license in marketplase.
Better to migrate rootvg from your existing OS if possible , in that scenartio you need not take care of OS users , groups etc.

Solution Manager Key for Java AS

I'm new to SAP Netweaver so maybe this question has been answered before.
I need to install SAP Netweaver AS Java for development/QA purposes. I understand that I need also Solution manager key for installation so I installed another Solution Manager System.
When I enter to Solution Manager http://<server>:50000 I get "System Landscape Directory is not accessible. Only local system can be administered". What does it mean? I remember I chose to create local SLD.
I saw also in couple of threads the following:
Just go to transaction SMSY transaction of solman and locate the system for which you need to generate Solman Key and just right clilck on that system...You will find the option of Generating Solution Manager Key....
I don't have such an option when I enter to Solution Manager.
Any suggestions?

Which parameters are required for generating a solution manager key?

Hello All,
I generated a key in Solution Manager, to install a SAP NW 2004s SR1.
But I receive an error during the installation from the SAPINST:
"SAP Solution manager key for the instance number... is invalid ".
I already changed the parameters for generating the key, changed the instance number, hostname, but I still receive the same error.
Could someone tell me which parameters exactly are required for generating a solution manager key?

Dear Sri,
this is exactly what I have entered, I still get the same error message.
My entries in SAPINST:
SAPinst founds one system instance on the host with
the Instance number 00,
the Instance name SCS00.
And ask for the Central Instance parameters:
there I enter 01 for the central Instance number,
the hostname
and the solution manager key generated for the instance number 01!

I'm not sure what you mean with "I need a list" but the installation guide is available at the usual places:

--> Release 7.0
Check the "Master Guide SAP Solution Manager 7.0" for an overview, which CDs/DVDs you need.
The installation guide itself is also available on that site.
SolMan 7.0 SR3 is not available on 32bit platforms.

I guess it is hardware key. Go to the Tcode slicense and there you will be able to find out the active hardware key. Take it!!

If you wan to achieve monitoring from technical perspective, the way that was introduced by shivjansi might be the option.
If you want to check the entry of specific table in stand alone MSSQL to ensure the business process that use MSSQL
stand alone DB, you can use BPMon remote DB monitoring that enables monitoring of non ABAP/ non SAP that supported
by netweaver like MSSQL, Oracle, DB2.
By using this function, you can monitor the entry of your stand alone SQL server.
For example, stand alone SQL Server has some table that contains some error,
or there is application table and in one row that it indicates error or completeness.
Now if you want to check these error document or incomplete document in the DB,
you can use BPMon remote DB monitor.
By monitoring this, you can ensure whether there is issue in your business or not.
