Tabs / paragraphes

Hi @all!
I´m really looking for help!
I try to design a schedule an have some problems doing this. Here the problem goes:
Schedule looks like this (in a simplified form):
Name          ___________________
Street          ___________________
City             ___________________
etc.
To create a proper schedule, i want to use tabs! i know how to use them and how to set them.
In the first line everything works properly.
In the second line the text is presented block-format (although it should be left-justified) - but there is no different setting than in the first row! The tabs i set in the second row are ignored and the text is streched over the whole wide of the ducument!
Can you tell me, what i have to do, that the tabs work in the hole document???
Even if i make a new document, i still have the same problem!
Thanks a lot in advance,

Have a look at Michael Murphy's The InDesigner video on creating forms in InDesign. The link below gives access to the video and a template file which might help you setting your document up.

  • Find n replace pricing in paragraphs-

    OK, I have a rather large catalogue that used to be a QuarkXPress Job recently converted by plug-in and cleaned up. I now have the need to run thru this and make some changes. (Please bare in mind Im using CS2 so my find and change may NOT be up to this?) Here is an example of the contents of the price listed text frames…
    What I need to do is replace the last 2 prices with just the one e.g. '£00.00' in the black. I will then be moving the tab stop positions. Now the example above is NOT the best as my prices can be of varying length '£1.23', '£12.34' or '£123.45' so is there a way I can use find n change in the GUI or would script be better suited to this? I think I could do multi f&r to something unique then replace that but its going to be too time consuming. Is it possible to use any digit {n} times? In Quark I could have it include '£' and '.' in the definition of word then just remove the last word. I hope thats fairly clear if NOT let me know. Thanks in advance…

    Well, I had a little time to dig some further and this is almost there even if a little ugly…
    #target indesign
    function removePrices() {
         if (app.documents.length == 0) {
              alert('Please have an "InDesign" document open before running this script.');
              return;
         var docRef = app.activeDocument;
         // Just using a selected box to test
         with (docRef.selection[0]) {
              // Missout first n last paras
              for (var i = 1; i < paragraphs.length-1; i++) {
                   var a = paragraphs[i].contents.indexOf('£') + 1;
                   var b = paragraphs[i].contents.length-2;
                   paragraphs[i].characters.itemByRange(a,b).remove()
                   paragraphs[i].words.lastItem().contents = '£00.00';
              // No return at end of this one
              var a = paragraphs[i].contents.indexOf('£') + 1;
              var b = paragraphs[i].contents.length-1;
              paragraphs[i].characters.itemByRange(a,b).remove();
              paragraphs[i].words.lastItem().contents = '£00.00';
              // Remove my last tab
              paragraphs.everyItem().tabStops.lastItem().remove();
              // Move my tabs and respace content
              paragraphs.everyItem().tabStops.lastItem().position = 77;
              This did NOT work but I was hardly surprised!!!
              paragraphs.everyItem().tabStops.lastItem().previousItem().position = 67;
              var c = paragraphs[1].tabStops.length-2;
              paragraphs.everyItem().tabStops.item(c).position = 67;
    removePrices();

  • Reformatting a large document in Pages '09

    I need to completely reformat a large manuscript. I'm lost when it comes to changing the indent of paragraphs (the first in a section must be flush left, but all others slightly indented and right now mine are very wide) and I need to include page & name on top of left page, page & title on top of right page, except on new chapter pages which are without headers. Help?

    Create 2 paragraphs:
    ParaFirst: +Inspector > Text > Tabs > Paragraph Indents > 0/0/0+
    ParaFollowing: +Inspector > Text > Tabs > Paragraph Indents > 1cm/0/0+
    Select each in turn:
    +Menu > View > Show Styles Drawer > click on little triangle to right of paragraph styles > Create New Paragraph Style from Selection > Name > OK+
    Select first paragraph again:
    +Inspector > Text > More > Following Paragraph Style > ParaFollowing+
    This will make paragraphs after the ParaFirst style automatically become ParaFollowing style.
    and I need to include page & name on top of left page, page & title on top of right page
    +Menu > View > Show Layout+
    +Inspector > Document > Document > Document Margins > check Facing Pages > Header/Footer+
    +Inspector > Layout > Section > Configuration > check Left and right Pages are different+
    Click in the Headers and type the text you want on each side followed by:
    +Menu > Insert > Auto Page Numbers… > Choose whatever format you want+
    The Text and page numbers can be formatted as you wish and positioned using tabs.
    except on new chapter pages which are without headers.
    Go to the following pages of the section and click in the text of of that page:
    +Inspector > Layout > Section > Configuration > First page is different+
    Go back to the 1st page of the section and delete the contents of the Header there.
    When you have everything the way you want:
    +Menu > Format > Advanced > Capture Pages… > Name: > Include: > First 3 pages > OK+
    +Menu > File > Save as Template… > Name > OK+

  • Alignment in sapscript

    Hello Gurus,
    What is the trick to get the columns align?, I want to fix the size of the column, if the description of the material has a long name (40 characteres) the data goes right, if the name of the material is short goes left.
    So How difficult would be to get the columns length fixed?
    I am working with tab paragraph, I have test with unit CM, CH, but I dont understand why the data goes right , left according with the data.
    Someone knows how to solve the problem?
    Thanks so much

    hi Enrique,
    Alignment is a big issue to handle in scripts. Please use the TABs provided in the paragraph format. Each tab means the starting point of next variable.
    For eg:
    Var1,,Var2,,Var3
    In above eg. Var2 and Var3 will have fixed starting point as mentioned while creating the TABs. This means that even if Var2 is blank, it will not shift left.
    Forgot to add that column lengths should be fixed and hence you would need to truncate the length of your field. As in your example, if desciption should be truncated to 15 fields if your next column starts at 17 place.
    This is a pure trial and error method as per requirement.
    Please revert in case of doubt.
    Regards,
    DN.

  • How to Type Vertical Text with Boris?

    I need my text to be vertically alligned and move in and out of frame vertically. Is this possible with the Boris Text generator tha comes with FCP 5?
    Thanks,
    Justin!

    Yes, just open Title 3D, type your text, highlight it and click on the 2nd tab (paragraph attributes). Click on 'Text from top"

  • Dissapearing nested tables

    Please see this package, which contains INDD (CC2014, fully updated) and IDML file.
    This file is an excerpt of a catalog which i'm layouting (early phase).
    The table contains some nested tables. Somehow, many of these tables "dissapear". They are there, not in overset, but they aren't visible in InDesign nor when exporting to PDF.
    InDesign seems to need some trigger to make them visible again, by simply cutting the text frame and pasting it again, or by typing some text in the cell which contains the inline table (doesn't always work). Using an IDML to rebuild the INDD also fixes it.
    The INDD is saved with some disappeared nested tables in the right column.
    So... the problem is not how to get them back, but how to prevent them from disappearing...
    It happens all the time. Seems like a bug, but i'm not sure what causes it. I won't risk building the full catalog using these nested tables if they cannot be trusted.
    Any ideas what is causing this behaviour?
    As an alternative I could use tabbed paragraph styles instead of tables, but I prefer nested tables because of more flexible styling options (if they don't dissapear offcourse...).
    Any help appreciated!

    Hm, downloaded your packaged file, opened the InDesign document and the provided IDML file in CC-2014.2.
    I can clearly see the problem.
    Then tried to use the Story Editor Window to check what is going wrong in the InDesign table.
    That crashed my CC-2014.2 instantly:

    I suspect, that something in your InDesign table is very, very wrong. May be the table is corrupt.
    Exporting to IDML and working on with the IDML file would be my recommendation.

  • 6.0.5 trouble

    So I followed Steve Werner's suggestion over at InDesign Secrets and downloaded the 6.0.5 upgrade. But now suddenly my Paragraph Style Options has weirdly morphed into a variation of the Character Style Options box except that General is at the bottom instead of the top and all the other options usually associated with Paragraph style options (you know, like Indents and Spacing, Tabs, Paragraph Rules, Keep Options, and so forth) are just gone.
    Any ideas? I'm running on Windows XP Pro, and it was working fine before I upgraded.
    How do I get back to 6.0.4?

    Hi Peter,
    That sounds fine. Maybe by Monday morning we'll all know more. And it would be worth waiting not to uninstall and reinstall. And yes, I did get it through Help.
    Thanks.

  • Need help with word

    Somehow my word documents now seem to be showing all of the tab, paragraph and the such symbols, It's annoying, can anyone tell me how to make them go away? thanks in advance

    Since Word is not an Apple product. You'll get better response if you use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://groups-beta.google.com/group/microsoft.public.mac.office> rather than an Apple forum that focuses on Mac/Windows compatibility.
    Be sure to search the forum first in case someone has already had a similar question answered. You'll get your answer faster this way. Post your question in the forum if you don't find anything that helps you.

  • In FrameMaker 9.0.3 and 9.0.4, I cannot set tab stops for a style in the Paragraph Designer.

    In FrameMaker 9.0.3 and 9.0.4, I cannot set tab stops for a style in the paragraph designer. Here are the steps to dysfunction:
    1. In Paragraph Designer, for Tab Stops, click Edit. Edit Tab Stop dialog box opens, and the Paragraph Designer dialog box closes.
    2. Type value in New Position box.
    3. Click Continue. The Edit Tab Stop box closes.
    4. Open Paragraph Designer. No tabs are recorded.
    Discussion of a similar problem occured on this forum in June 2010. At that time, the resolution seemed to be to upgrade to 9.0.3. Has anyone else encountered this problem with these versions?
    Thanks.

    Hi, Arnis,
    Brilliant! Thanks so much. I only looked at the later discussions of that thread, which seemed to indicate the problem would be solved by an upgrade to 9.0.3.

  • How to put a tab space in a center aligned paragraph and have it remained centered?

    I am trying to put a tab spacing within a paragraph that is center aligned but when I press the tab button it pushes the paragraph to the left. How do I solve the problem? I have several lines I need to do this for so adjusting it one but one is a bit tedious.

    I don't use Captchas because they are not web friendly.  Humans have a hard time reading them which often leads to form submission failures and frustration.  I much prefer the Honeypot (hidden input field) method.  It traps spam bots who cannot resist filling in fields because they don't use CSS or JavaScript.  If the hidden field contains any characters, your form processing script can be set-up to flag that as spam and abort the submission.  Humans never see the hidden field, so it works seamlessly behind the scenes.   There's no limit on how many hidden form fields you can have on a page.

  • TAB in paragraph format for Script

    hi,
    i am doubt with the tabs for paragraph format in the script. how actually it work? i try to make change on the tab, but some time even i put a larger value, the space in the output will become smaller, can anyone explain to me how the tab actually work?
    thanks

    Thanks you very much.
    but one more question, let say, if i have 3 tabs for an output.
    HARLO,,MY,,WORLD,,!
    any i configure the tabs as, 20, 30,15 all in CH
    so after the "HARLO, it will have 20 CH of spacing, follow by "MY", 30 spacing, and 'MY" 15 spacing, end with "!"?
    it this the way it works?
    or it works in accumulate way, which include the text display as well?
    i found in the forum, say that, it will fix the length of a field( if i display a field), even there is no any value in that field. so how does it work on this?
    alot of question very thansk for the temper.

  • My tab under inspector disappeared, I can't see my font size or paragraph spacing anymore. How do I get my tab back?

    On pages, my tab under inspector disappeared, I can't see my font size or paragraph spacing anymore. How do I get my tab back?

    The Inspector Icon does not have a "tab", it is just a shortcut button.
    Menu > View > Show Inspector
    command option i does the same thing showing and hiding the Inspector.
    Because the Inspector/s are movable windows, if you can't see them they maybe somewhere off your screen or half tucked away partially out of sight.

  • Set tabs in Paragraph Style

    Hi, i am creating paragraph Styles in JavaScript. I looked but found absolutely no info about setting tabs in a paragraph style.
    Am i too tired? Can someone point me in the right direction please?
    Thanks
    Ben

    I have made two InDesign scripts, one that deletes all TabStops from all ParagraphStyles of a Document and one that adds TabStops to all ParagraphStyles of a Document.
    var oDoc = app.documents.item(0);
    // First delete all tabstops
    deleteTabStops(oDoc);
    var iNumberOfTabsToAdd = 3;
    var iTabDistance = 5;
    // Then add tabstops
    addTabStops(oDoc, iNumberOfTabsToAdd, iTabDistance);
    function deleteTabStops(oDocument)
         var iNumberOfParagraphStyles = oDocument.paragraphStyles.length;
         for (var iParagraphStyleItem = 0; iParagraphStyleItem < iNumberOfParagraphStyles; iParagraphStyleItem++) {
              var oParagraphStyle = oDoc.paragraphStyles.item(iParagraphStyleItem);
              if (oParagraphStyle != null) {
                   var iNumberOfTabStops = parseInt(oParagraphStyle.tabStops.length);
                   if (iNumberOfTabStops > 0) {
                        var iLastTabStop = parseInt(iNumberOfTabStops - 1);
                        for (var iLastTabStopItem = iLastTabStop; iLastTabStopItem >= 0; iLastTabStopItem--) {
                             var oTabStop = oParagraphStyle.tabStops.item(iLastTabStopItem);
                             if (oTabStop != null) {
                                  oTabStop.remove();
    function addTabStops(oDocument, iNumberOfTabsToAdd, iTabDistance)
         var iNumberOfParagraphStyles = oDocument.paragraphStyles.length;
         for (var iParagraphStyleItem = 0; iParagraphStyleItem < iNumberOfParagraphStyles; iParagraphStyleItem++) {
              var oParagraphStyle = oDoc.paragraphStyles.item(iParagraphStyleItem);
              if (oParagraphStyle != null && iParagraphStyleItem > 0) {
                   for (iTabNumber = 1; iTabNumber <= iNumberOfTabsToAdd; iTabNumber++) {
                        var sPosition = parseInt(iTabDistance * iTabNumber) + 'mm';
                        var oTabStop = oParagraphStyle.tabStops.add();
                        oTabStop.alignment = TabStopAlignment.CENTER_ALIGN;
                        oTabStop.leader = '';
                        oTabStop.position = sPosition;
    I hope this helps you further.

  • Sapscript - Paragraph Format - Tab space Issue

    Hello Experts,
    I'm facing issue with the Tab Space Alignment in the Paragraph Format.
    I'm giving these values for a Paragraph Format Tabs:
    Tab  Position:
    1: 0,10 CH
    2 :3,50CH
    3: 6,50CH
    12: 76,00CH
    Inspite of reducing the TAB position for 5th Tab; it is still aligning a bit far.
    And whenever the Description (Field 3) is longer; all the Values are pushing towards right.
    Alignment is not getting adjusted. How can I make this as Fixed?
    Here's the screenshot:
    Please advise.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sowmya

    Hi,
    For Standard Text, Paragraph format will be applicable from Standard Styles which will be creating in Transaction code SE72 and apply that Paragraph Format to Text in Standard Text transaction code SO10 then the Paragraph format will be applicable. And transport the Created Style in SE72 to Quality and Production Systems.
    Apply the Created Paragraph format created in SE72 to text by below steps:
    So10>Provide text>Click on CHANGE>Click on MENU FORMAT>Change Style->Double click on STYLE created in SE72-->Apply the newly created Paragraph Format to text in So10

  • Script Paragraph Format-TAB position Problem....

    In Script- Medruck , There is a line:
    IM   ,,,,,,Qty. ,,Unit   ,,Deliv. date ,,,,&ETUHRTXT&
    where IM is a paragraph format with TAB positions at:2,3,23,24,34,40,51,57.
    what is the meaning of ,,,,,,Qty ????
    what is the difference in writing :
    IM ,,Qty,,Unit,,Deliv. date,,&ETUHRTXT&                                 AND
    IM   ,,,,,,Qty. ,,Unit   ,,Deliv. date ,,,,&ETUHRTXT&
    How would the Display look like??

    Hi Srikar again,
    If you are putting one tab position after every field, in this case count tab position from the starting i.e. from first variable and go on countin till end . This will take you adding position one after other and it will not overlap.
    e.g. Mat,,qty,,price
    and tab position as 1 : 5  2: 10 3: 15 4:20
    then mat will start at 1 to 5 and qty will from 10 onward.
    Regards,
    Vijay
