Taking my 20" Cinema display on the road; how do I remove the stand?

Hi everyone,
I'm planning to do alot of work on location this summer and would like to find a way to remove the stand attached to my 20" LCD Cinema Display so that I can pack them both into a smaller case. I've just removed the allen key cover on the right hand side (from the front) and was presented with a more complicated challenge inside the mount. It seemed to me to be a good time to consult the support forum before things went horribly wrong....
Are there instructions anywhere that show how to dissasemble the hinge where the display meets the stand? Without destroying either?
Can anyone recommend a lie-flat/two piece stand I can take with me on location?
Many thanks,
Andrew

Look at me; I'm clever.
Solution found at http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/073-0933.pdf
After removing the two screws, the stand didn't want to pull off easily and I thought it may still be attached. It turns out that the attachment point was just sticky and needed a firm pull.
Thanks internet!

  • Can I use my cinema display as the primary monitor???

    I've just cracked the screen on my macbook pro and want to know if it's possible that i could use my 23" apple cinema display as the primary screen, so that when I load up my dock etc will appear on the external monitor rather than the laptop monitor.
    Is this possible, and how do i achieve this?
    Cheers,
    Jonny

    I think so.
    Click on system preferences, and choose displays.
    From here, click on arrangement, and you can choose to have the dock on your external display.
    If you don't see the "arrangement" option, be sure you have an external keyboard or mouse attached to the computer, and close its display lid. The computer should go to sleep. After it's asleep, wake it, using the attached mouse or keyboard, but keep the lid closed. The external display should illuminate with your desktop.

  • What are the actual dimensions of the new Thunderbolt Display without the stand (e.g., when using a VESA mount)?

    I need to use the new Thunderbolt Display without the stand on a VESA mount, but before I order it I need to make sure it will fit height-wise in the allotted space.

    The ThunderBolt display specs page has the same sizes listed as the 27" LED Cinema Display specs page (web archive).  I just measured my Cinema Display for you and the height of the display itself without the stand is 15 5/8".  However, you will need some additional space at the bottom for air flow intake.  These displays get hot and need proper ventilation so do not block the vents on the bottom.  Also the bottom vents are where the speakers are.
    Hope this helps.

    The Belkan is due for release immenantly and note those USB ports are version 3.
    This is what Thunderbolt is all about it's an external PCie and far more than just a cable

    Can I set up my Mac mini to transfer its contents to a new Mac Pro and then disconnect my Cinema Display and use it connected to the Pro to complete the transfer?  Do I actually need two displays to manage the transfer?

    It helps have 2 monitors, so that you can monitor data XFER, just my experience. If nothing else it allows you keep am eye on what is going on.

  • Using a keyboard and cinema display with the lid closed on the laptop...

    I have connected my MacBook Pro to my Apple cinema display, but what do I need to do in order to be able to close the lid on the laptop, but still work with the computer. Also, do I need a docking station?
    Thanks to anyone patient enough to reply with help!

    I think the Trick is to connect your Laptop to the Cinema Display. Then connect a keyboard to your ACD, then set your Laptop to go to sleep by closing it - next wake the laptop by using the Keyboard attached to the ACD.

  • What is wrong with my 30" Cinema Display?  The USB and FireWire ports still work, but the screen is pitch black. When you plug it into the computer, it detects that it's a Cinema Display.

    When you plug it into the computer, it detects that it's a Cinema HD but the screen is pitch black.
    For some reason, the USB and FireWire ports still work.

    If you shine a really bright light directly into the screen can you then see a faint image on the screen? If so, that would indicate the backlight has died (hardware failure) and the unit needs repairing.

  • I purchased a mac mini server and hope to connect my old G4 Cinema display to the mini.

    Thought I'd try the Belkin ADC to DCI converter. Anyone know if this will work?

    The problem is that power supply is not cheap. They run around $125 used.
    A few are listed on amazon
    http://www.amazon.com/Apple-M8661LL-Display-Adapter-4038234011420/dp/B00011KHT2
    You can also find them on ebay.
    The only thing is i can not confirm this works with the mini display port. In theory it should as it is just a monitor signal.

  • Please Help! 20" Cinema Display question

    hi all,
    hopefully someone can help me out with this...
    i desperately need the dimensions for a 20" cinema display WITHOUT the stand... the company i work for is doing a small AV install and we're looking at using these screens, so i need the measurements to see if they'll fit...
    i can't find anything on the interwebs so i thought i'd ask here...
    thanks

    Welcome to Discussions, monsterchild.
    Here is what Apple says:
    Size and weight
    20-inch Apple Cinema Display
    * Height: 15.9 inches (40.4 cm)
    * Width: 18.5 inches (47.1 cm)
    * Depth: 6.8 inches (17.4 cm)
    * Weight: 14.5 pounds (6.6 kg)
    but ours measures about 16.1 inches high for some reason.
    The height of the frame of ours is just barely over 12 inches as best I can measure with a yardstick, so your dimensions would be about 12 by 18.5 inches.

  • 24" LCD cinema display panel weight

    does the spec weight of 21 lbs. ( http://support.apple.com/kb/SP502 ) for the 24" apple cinema display include the stand? If so, what is the weight of the panel without the stand?  I'm looking at monitor arms and most say that the max weight is 20 lbs..
    Also, does anyone know the weight of the VESA mount plate for the cinema display?

    Thanks!

    Perhaps all it needed was a restart. I first tried clamshell mode and there was no flicker. Then I tried with the lower graphics and no flicker. Now I've restarted with higher graphics turned back on and it hasn't flickered yet. I've re-opened all the programs I had open at the time as well.
    I've marked this issue as resolved but if it recurs I'll be sure to post here.

  • Using only an Apple Cinema Display connected to MBP (w/ the lid closed)

    Hi,
    Could someone please help me on a small but rather annoying problem?
    I have a Mac Book Pro 17" connected to an Apple Cinema Display 24". All I would like to do is to just use the Cinema Display, close the laptop lid, and for the MBP not to go into sleep mode (taking the Apple Display away with it).
    I've looked in the Display and Energy Saver settings and have trawled through the online forums but as yet have not had any luck.
    Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Many thanks, M>/.

    Apple supports using an external keyboard/mouse to wake the MBP in clamshell mode.

    The other option is 3rd party software to disable lid-closed sleep:
    InsomniaX
    SleepLess
