Task dependencies and scheduling in Oracle projects and project management

Am I correct in the belief that Oracle projects/project management does not have the ability to create, manage and track dependencies between tasks in a project ? And to achieve that micro level of planning I need to use something like Microsoft Project Integration ?

Project integration is the link between Oracle Projects and MS Projects.
If you want to define dependencies between tasks, MS Project is best bet
for you.

Oledb and path length - Oracle client and networking components ...

Hello,
I've been suddenly getting the
"Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation."
error when trying to connect to an oracle 9.2 database using the msdaora oledb provider.
"..ora92/bin" is in my PATH environoment variable and the hints about setting read and execute permissions on the ..ora92/bin direction didn't work for me. However, what did do the trick, was reducing the length the PATH environement variable to under 182 characters.
Anybody else seen this that can explain what's gonig on here?

My system looks like this:
OS: MS Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
msdaora version: 2.81.1117.0
This problem has only recently surfaced, but has now appeared on at least two other systems as well as my own. Any system changes must have happened on all three systems. I have "automatic updates" setup on my computer and they maybe setup on the other computers - could the be responsible for breaking oledb?
Other things I have tried:
The Oracle Oledb provider is also not working. It gives me the error:
"OraOLEDBpus.dll: the specified module could not be found"
When I reduce the size of the PATH variable it works too.
I am always able to run executables from the ../ora92/bin directory. So the path is only being wrongly interpreted by the Oledb providers.

Download and installation of Oracle 8i and Developer 6i

I have Windows XP Home Edition. When I went to the download site to extract Oracle 8i and Developer 6i and was instructed to choose my environment I did not know which to select as neither had WIN XP. Which should I choose.
Also, what known problem and work arounds should I expect, if any. I need to get this loaded for a class by Friday, Feb 1. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Data export and import between Oracle 9 and 10

I have been working with this for weeks. Reading posts and oracle doc. Finally, bugs block my way. Hope you can help me out. Many Thanks.
Situation: I need to export data of one table from Oracle 10.2.0.1 to Oracle 9.2.0.8
Background: Oracle 10.2.0.1 at Machine 1(IBM AIX), Oracle 9.2.0.8 at Machine 2(don't know, maybe Stratus), My local Machine(XP)
Method 1: using SQL developer (MWB)
Bug: there is CLOB field in the target table. All content of CLOB field become "(CLOB)" and data lost. This is a logged bug.
Solution: give up using SQL developer
Method 2: using Oracle 10 client exp & imp and remote from my local machine XP
Bug: PLS-00302-SET_NO_OUTLINES must be declared
Solution: using Oracle 9 client
Method 3: using Oracle 9.2.0.1 client, since my local machine is XP
Bug: EXP-00003: no storage definition found for segment (target DB run Oracle 9.2.0.8)
Solution: using Oracle 9.2.0.8 client
Problem: Oracle 9.2.0.8 client is for Stratus x86 only? I have no idea what Stratus is except believing it is a server machine.
My senior told me to use sqlldr. But I just used it once for 3rd party DB for import. Can sqlldr export data?

I think that using spool and sqlldr is the most "painless" method for Oracle 10g to 9i data move unless you are DBA of both DBs.
Please share If anyone have easier/safer method. I am just crazy to migrate backward Oracle version.

Trying to add oinstall and dba (for Oracle Database and Enterprise Manager) to my LDAP account

I want to add groups to my LDAP user account abc. Currently I have uid=243782(abc) gid=10(wheel) groups=1275(nsn-emp),9834(nsn-moh),10(wheel), but I want groups oinstall, oper and dba added.
According to the database installation document, local os group must include oinstall and dba.
The following local operating system groups and users are required if you are
installing Oracle Database:
■ The Oracle Inventory group (typically, oinstall)
■ The OSDBA group (typically, dba)
■ The Oracle software owner (typically, oracle)
I tried to add abc groups oinstall and dba using root user, but it failed.
Could you please inform me how to add these groups?

Dense Rank and Object types (oracle 9i and 10g difference).

One of my queries in my procedure uses scalar subqueries and object types.
The code works fine in 10g but not in 9i. Both Object types and Dense_rank used below are present in both 9i and 10g.
The following is a part of a bigger query.. but this is what it comes down to when I zero in on the error.

How to stop scheduled ship date and scheduled arrival date from defaulting to sysdate

Hello,
We have a business scenario where we are deriving scheduled ship date and scheduled arrival date outside and then imported in the instance with the order. However we find that the scheduled ship date and scheduled arrival date are defaulting to sysdate. The atp flag is set to N for these items. I have checked the defaulting rules, there is no such defaulting rule set for scheduled ship date or arrival date ( screenshot attached) Please share your thoughts on how can I stop scheduled ship date and arrival date date from defaulting to sysdate ?

Oracle DB and File system backup configuration

As I understand from the help documents and guides, brbackup, brarchive and brrestore are the tools which are used for backing up and restoring the oracle database and the file system. We have TSM (Trivoli Storage manager) in our infrastructure for managing the backup centrally. Before configuring the backup with TSM, I want to test the backup/restore configuration locally i.e. storing the backup to local file system and then restoring from there. Our backup strategy is to have full online backup on the weekends and incremental backup on the weekdays. Given this, following are the things, I want to test.
1. Full online backup (to local file system)
2. Incremental online backup (to local file system)
3. Restore (from local file system)
I found help documents to be very generic and couldn't get any specific information for the comprehensive configuration to achieve this. Can someone help with end to end configuration?
We are using SAP Portal 7.0 (NW2004s) with Oracle 10g database hosted on AIX server.

Thanks for your feedback. I am almost clear about this issue now, except one point need to be confirmed: do you mean that on linux or unix, if required, we can set "direct to disk" from OS level, but for windows, it's default "direct to disk", we do not need to set it manually.
And I have a further question: If a database is stored on a SAN disk, say, a volume from disk array, the disk array could take snapshot for a disk on block level, we need to implement online backup of database. The steps are: alter tablespace begin backup, alter system suspend, take a snapshot of the volume which store all database files, including datafiles, redo logs, archived redo logs, controll file, service parameter file, network parameter files, password file. Do you think this backup is integrity or not. please note, we do not flush the fs cache before all these steps. Let's assume the SAN cache could be flushed automatically. Can I think it's integrity because the redo writes are synchronous.

How to view pre-built Dashboards and Reports of Oracle BI- Apps?

We have sucessfuly installed and configured the Oracle Apps, and also we configured the OracleBIAnalyticsApps.rpd and we are able to view the different subject areas.
But we are facing problem in viewing any prebuilt dashboard or report.
Is it possbile to view pre-built Dashboards and Reports of Oracle BI- Apps if we dont have any ERP applicaton as a source?
As we dont have any ERP application we have loaded the data from the sample flat files to the Analytics warehouse.
Any help would be highly appreciable.

My system is rhel 3 (update 6). My question is how can i install Oracle form and report 6i on my machine, which is already have database 10g R2? I known i have to create two separate ORACLE_HOME. Since i already had database 10g R2, can i just go head install Oracle form and report 6i on separate ORACLE_HOME? or i need to remove database 10g R2 first, and then install Oracle form and report 6i

Does sqlldr and sqlplus for Oracle 8i and later use
the ORA_ENCRYPT_LOGIN Environment variable anymore?

i believe the ORA_ENCRYPT_LOGIN is still valid in 8i + but only has an effect when we are connecting to much earlier versions of the database. Net8 always encrypts passwords, so setting this parameter has no effect when connecting to an 8i database.

Project 2013- Trying a to move a task within the project and have it respect new predecessor rather than old one

Ok, I am working on a rather large project schedule.
Before having to upgrade to Project 2013, the file was used in Project 2007.
Basically I am having a problem with moving tasks only to have them still respect their old predecessor instead of just the new one.
Basically I have 4 tasks ( with start dates): Task A: 1st of month, Task B: 5th of month, Task C: 9th of month, Task D: 13th of month.
I would want to move say Task D infront of Task B and have it go A/1st, D/5th, B/9th, C/13th. But all that happens is that the tasks change order but all the dates remain with their original tasks. This wasn't a problem before Project 2013.
Is there any fix for this outside of having to unlink and relink every time I make change?

You're right, it doesn't work the same in Project 2010 & later as it did in Project 2007 and earlier. The feature you desire is controlled by the option setting to autolink inserted or moved tasks. As far as I can tell there is a bug that was likely
introduced when manual scheduling was added to Project 2010. Now, if the option is set, two links will be set up, the original link to the old predecessor and a new one to the new predecessor.
I'm surprised this bug hasn't been fixed but I guess it's not something a lot of users have an issue with. Meanwhile, edit your links after drag and drop as Rod suggests.
