Task sequence fails after upgrading to 2012 R2 and MDT 2013

After upgrading to 2012 R2, my task sequence fails after the Setup Windows and ConfigMGR & Restart Computer. Instead of continuing to run the task sequence and load up the MDT Toolkit Package, it just stops at the Windows 7 login screen.
Do I need to create new toolkit & settings packages with MDT 2013 settings? Or do I just need to create a new task sequence?
I can't figure out what log to look at on the VM that I am imaging. If someone can point it out maybe there's some useful information. Thanks.
My task sequence

It sounds a lot like that it could be failing at the client installation. Please take a look at the client installation logs.

Here are the log files from c:\windows\ccmsetup\logs .. I took a glance and things run with success 0 which should mean no error right? The system also has the client installed with the CU2 patch.
Client Logs
Searched a bit online and people are saying it's due to the incorrect boot image. I was using a WinPE 5.0 I created on this TS but I'm going to make another and see where it goes.
This was the solution.

  • Task Sequence Failing after Stating Boot Image and Restart in WinPE - Windows XP to Windows 7

    Good Morning,
I am trying to upgrade an XP Machine to Windows 7 (x86). I was using the boot image inbuilt with SCCM 2012 R2 but read that it wont work correcltly. I am using Windows PE 3.1 boot image to boot.
The TS fails after trying to restart in Windows PE when staging the boot image.
    From the Logs in CCM\Logs\SMSTSLog
I am still getting the same issue as when i am using the Boot image from ADK 8.1.
Anybody has an idea on how to solve this issue ? I have read a workaround about replacing the bootsect from the boot image but funily i am using an older boot image.
    Kind Regards,
    Mathieu

  • Task Sequence Fails after Software Updates Install Step - Lenovo X240

    Hi All.
I'm having a strange issue trying to run an OSD on Lenovo X240 machines.
After the Software Update step, it reboots as expected, then exits the task sequence and sends you to the windows logon screen.
Review the SMSTS.log, it appears the reason is:
Found network adapter "Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260" with IP Address 0.0.0.0.
    TSMBootstrap 24/07/2014 15:07:10
    1824 (0x0720)
Found network adapter "Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I218-LM" with IP Address 0.0.0.0.
    TSMBootstrap 24/07/2014 15:07:10
    1824 (0x0720)
    Full log file:
    SMSTS.log
If I remove the Software Updates step, the task sequence completes without any problems.
Don't think it is a driver error, as above, every other step completes without issue. Other models use the same task sequence (including software updates step) without any problems.
    Any ideas? I'm completely stuck.
    Thanks!

Looks like I am deploying KB2965788 which requires two restarts.
    Thanks all for your help.
P.S. - I periodically update the base image with a build & capture to include the latest updates, so in the times between this I deploy the software updates as part of the task sequence.
I've found the offline servicing to be very flaky, have attempted to use it many times and found it either a) doesn't apply the updates to the image b) corrupts the image.

  • Task seqence according to departments in a company and MDT 2013

    Hi,
I have a problem and I need help from the SCCM community.
    So here we go:
I am in a process of upgrading SCCM from 2007 to 2012, great. I have setup lab environment which consists of 2 DC, 1 DB server, 1 SCCM 2012 Server and 2 test clients (Windows 7).
My question is about planning and design of the task sequence for various departments in our company. I have no idea how to approach it or how to implement it. Right now we use HTA script.
The idea is to deploy a set of applications like Skype, acrobat, 7-zip to all windows 7 clients, and then based on what I choose in MDT(this is the actual procedure which we use in 2007):
…have other applications which are specific to the chosen department.
I want to move away from the hta script in SCCM 2012 but I have no idea how to do it. Only thing that I know it MIGHT work would be to make MDT 2013 TS user driven OS deployment TS.
    This drags another questions:
Is there anywhere on the internet a guide for this? Youtube or something that I was not able to find.
Would that mean that I would have many Task Sequences?
By that I mean for example.
    “Deploy Windows 7 – QA”
    “Deploy Windows 7 – DEV”
    “Deploy Windows 7 – IT”
    “Deploy Windows 7 – CS”
    “Deploy Windows 7 – PM”
And if I have windows 8.1 which I will that would mean too many TSs displayed I want to avoid that and have only 1 for windows 7 and 1 for windows 8.1 clients. I want to make a TS which deploys applications according
to what I choose in UDI Wizard Designer (Am I right? Is that being made in UDI?).
I would love to see a solution like this:
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you

    Hi,
I am a bit stuck on the following...
I have created a custom UDI page called Gather data for OSD but i am not sure if I am doing a good job with variables:
I want to enter a name for the computer and for TS to of course give a name that I want to the computer.
I also would like to choose departments because then i can deploy different applications with different departments. I am basically trying to recreate the procedure written in my first post but without HTA:
Am I on the right path or?
    Thanks,

  • Task Sequence Failed 0x80091007. SCCM 2012 R2 OSD

    Hi,
I have multicast deployment issue with Configuration Manager 2012 R2.
Unicast is working fine, Multicast throwing error 0x80091007.
Wait time starts and after 40 to 50 seconds pops up with error 0x80091007
I have already tried Redistributing and recreating image, trying with different systems, Direct access from DP settings, validating share access and all.
There is no SMSTS.LOG available on client systems.

    Hi,
    How about MCSISAPI.log?
Here is a blog talks about this error, you could have a look.
"Update 19-6-2013: Nick send me a possible solution in comments. What you have to do is make sure you don't have a custom Multicast range set - use the setting "Use IPv4 addresses within any range"
in the SCCM 2012 multicast tab under Distribution Point properties.
The default is 239.0.0.1 to 239.0.0.254 - if you have a custom range set - it IGNORES it and uses a random address in 239 range anyways. He has tried to statically set a 239 range on both SCCM multicast and WDS multicast settings - ignores them still uses a
random address in the 239 range regardless.
On your Cisco core - if your using that - make sure your ACL's and Rendezvous Point ACL for PIM permits the 239 range. As soon as this was done it's all working. > Will try that myself next month! "

  • Remote portlet failing after upgrading to 6.5 and SQL Server to 2005

we are upgrading our environment from 6.1 mp1 to 6.5 in the process we upgraded our sql server from 2000 version to 2005.After the database upgrade all our remote custom portlet developed using API's to query the database to get user properties or documents name in KD is failing at the point where it try’s to make the call to the database.
We are getting following error on all the portlets result page “The underlying connection was closed: The server committed an HTTP protocol violation. “
For example for user search portlet its fails at this line
    IPortalSearchRequest searchRequest = searchFactory.CreatePortalSearchRequest();
    Any Ideas??

You had 6.1 MP1 running on SQL 2000? If you pulled off that sql magic, this issue should be peanuts. ;-)
Seriously, though, when we went from 6.1 to 6.1 MP1, all of our apps using the native API's IPTSearchRequest broke. Notice I said 'IPT' not just 'I' - again, I'm talking about the native api, not the remote. Though come to think of it, the remote search api calls may have broken, too. That was the whole reason we put off the MP1 upgrade - it broke the search in all our tests. I don't think it was until the patch 1 for MP1 came out that we moved forward.
Enough of my yapping, our fix for the native api apps - those using IPTSearchRequest - was to simply recompile the apps using the MP1 assemblies. Whatever the handful of assemblies you may have referenced in your project to get the native api working, just change their ref path to the newer MP1 assemblies - or in your case the new 6.5 versions. That fixed us right up.

Dont look for WinPE drivers. WinPE is just a slimmed down version of the full OS.
    http://foxdeploy.com/2013/10/02/differences-in-winpe-versions/
Since you are using WinPE 5.0 x64, you want Windows 8.1 x64 drivers.
What model are you trying to image? Are you sure drivers are needed at all? Can you boot up to WinPE 5.0 and get an IP?

  • OSD Task Sequence fails to install SCCM client

    Hello,
Our OSD task sequence fails to install the SCCM client with certain images.
The TS gets to the "Setup Windows and Configuration" step, during which it downloads all the necessary SCCM client files (silverlight, C++ redistributable, client.msi....etc.). At this point computer restarts and in never loads back into the
task sequence, instead it enters the minisetup (setup is starting services, setup is installing devices, setup is applying system settings...preparing computer for first use), after which the computer restarts and you are back at the CTR+ALT+Del screen.
The computer has joined the domain and has run all other steps but it has failed to install SCCM client. I can also see the leftovers of an incomplete TS under c:\_SMSTaskSequence
If we change the image specified under "Apply Operating System" step, everything works ok.
It appears there is something wrong with this particular image. Any ideas?
Logs show no errors. Let me know which logs you'd like me to post (and from which location)
There is no ccm folder under c:\windows

Hoping you are using ConfigMgr 2012 R2. If a client machine Join to Domain and doesn't proceed with other steps and not installing the CCM client, then problem seems to be with the Image.Do you have any RunOnce registry setting specified in the Image? You
can mount the Image and check those settings.
    RunOnce Key Reference :
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa376977(v=vs.85).aspx
If the above key is present in the Image, TS Engine won't resume after the reboot.
You need to use a new variable "SMSTSPostAction" at the end of the Task Sequence, to add your custom actions.
The above variable is applicable in CM 2012 SP1 and R2.

  • Unit test fails after upgrading to Kodo 4.0.0 from 4.0.0-EA4

I have a group of 6 unit tests failing after upgrading to the new Kodo
4.0.0 (with BEA) from Kodo-4.0.0-EA4 (with Solarmetric). I'm getting
exceptions like the one at the bottom of this email. It seems to be an
interaction with the PostgreSQL driver, though I can't be sure. I
haven't changed my JDO configuration or the related classes in months
since I've been focusing on using the objects that have already been
defined. The .jdo, .jdoquery, and .java code are below the exception,
just in case there's something wrong in there. Does anyone have advice
as to how I might debug this?
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Deploy OS task sequence fails when deploying to multiple computers

    Hi gang,
I'm running into an issue when imaging multiple computers with MDT 2012. Let me give some background info.
I have installed Windows 7 64 bit on a laptop in audit mode, made my configurations, sysprepped the machine, and captured a .wim using WDS (captured to an external hard drive). I then imported this .wim into MDT, created a Standard Client Task Sequence to deploy
the image, and successfully deployed it to a machine.
My problem comes up when I initiate this task sequence on multiple computers simultaneously. If I put 6 computers side-by-side and run the task sequence at the same time, only a couple machines will actually succeed. The rest fail with the following:
    FAILURE ( 5624 ): 2: Run ImageX: /apply "\\CAAPPWN40\DeploymentShare$\Operating Systems\T731 (Final) Windows 7 64 bit May 2013\T731 (Final) Windows 7 64 bit May 2013.wim"

BDD.log is saying that "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."
If I restart the computer, boot back into PXE, and run the task sequence again, this time on it's own (as opposed to 6 computers at once) it works fine.
    Can anyone help?

I just rebooted the server and tried again, same result.
I keep getting a "Body text cannot contain links or images until we are able to verify your account" error when posting a hyperlink. I've had my technet account since October... weird.

  • Build and Capture task sequence fails at 'Prepare ConfigMgr Client for Capture' step

    The scenario is as follows:
Task Sequence is a Build and Capture of Windows 7 SP1 x64 Enterprise
There are 17 Applications installed split into 2 'Install Application' steps due to the 9 item limit
    129 Software Updates are installed
    SCCM 2012 RTM
I have built and captured on this system previously however there were no 'applications', just traditional SCCM 'packages'
All task sequence steps run successfully until it gets to the 'Prepare ConfigMgr Client for Capture' step and it fails here. Here are the relevant parts of the SMSTS.log file:

It looks like there is a similar issue over here (http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/5906-task-sequence-error-0xffffffff/) that was resolved by removing the Application Installations one by one until a problematic one was found
and removed - however I would rather avoid this very time consuming process if possible.
I have also testing this using 'capture media' in the full OS and that also fails at the same step with the same errors in the smsts.log
The only workaround I have for now is to let the task sequence fail at the 'Prepare ConfigMgr Client for Capture' step, then I uninstall the SCCM client using 'ccmsetup.exe /uninstall' and use the 'capture media' method - obviously with no SCCM client installed,
it skips the 'Prepare ConfigMgr Client for Capture' step and goes straight to the 'Prepare OS' step and then to the actual capture to the WIM step.
Anybody else seeing this or have any suggestions?

You dont have to test it 18 times....
Just test with 50% of the applications first, if it fails, test with 25% and then on of the time...
You should be able to find the application, within 4-5 tests...

  • Build & capture task sequence fails during software update installation

I'm sure this has been discussed a thousand times already, so I hope no one minds talking about it at least one more time.  About 6 months ago I created a reference image using a build and capture task sequence within SCCM.  After discovering
there were certain updates that would kill a task sequence (because they required multiple restarts), I was able to exclude these updates from deployment so that my task sequence completed successfully.  Fast forward to today.  I'm working on updating
our reference image to include the last 6 months of updates.  Again, I'm having trouble with the task sequence failing to complete.  I have excluded all of the updates mentioned in
Microsoft KB article 2894518.  I'm able to build the image with all software updates up until 6/30/2014.  When I deploy my software group that contains updates from 7/1/2014 to 12/31/2014,
however, the task sequence fails.  I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out which update may be causing the issue, and trust me, I don't have much hair as it is.  So, here's my question to all of the experts out there.  What is the best
method of debugging this issue and finding which update may be the culprit?  The log files really are confusing, so I'm hoping there are some common codes or phrases I can search for within those files.  Any and all help is much appreciated.  Thanks...

Since this is a Build & Capture task sequence and not joined to the domain, you'll need to treat it
like a workgroup computer.  Here are the big three things that usually trip things up:
    1.  Initial Management Point:  The Setup Windows and ConfigMgr step should have the SMSMP=<fqdn>
property specified, as the device won't be able to see the list of MP's in Active Directory
    2.  Content Location:  Make sure the reference machine's IP address falls within an IP Range
or Subnet ID boundary, since it can't use a AD Site boundary as a workgroup machine.
    3.  Win 7 - NTLM Fallback:  Windows 7 devices may need
hotfix KB2522623 installed (as a package/program or with offline servicing) to ensure they fall back to NTLM properly when they fail to authenticate with Kerberos.
If you have those 3 things taken care of, then you should copy all the logs off of the machine while the
error message is still being displayed, zip them, and then share them out through OneDrive or Dropbox.
    I hope that helps,
