Tdx.sys ntkrnlmp.exe BSOD after P2V Windows 2008 R2 Standard

Hi all,
We ran a P2V against a Server 2008 R2 Standard (SBS) DC on the weekend. Given that VMware hasn't released a cold clone ISO for a while, we used ShadowProtect Recovery Environment and Hardware Independent Restore. It worked a treat, stripped the old physical
NICs out.
Monday morning it threw a BSOD, then again at 10 am that day.
We immediately patched to remove the http.sys BSOD vulnerability to be safe.
We also patched 2008 R2 to SP1 x64 latest versions.
It crashed again last night, then again at 10 am today and every day since.
The BSOD dumps mention ntkrnlmp.exe and tdx.sys
vSphere is a new Intel server S2600CP2 running vSphere 5.5 Update 2.
The VM is running a VMXnet3 NIC, we've had issues before. RAID controller is Intel RMS25PB040.
The server runs AD/DNS, Exchange, File Shares and Printers.
We're combing through tasks, as it may be falling over at the same time every couple of days.
We've disabled Kaspersky Endpoint protection.
We will be planning to swap over the VMXnet3 NIC to E1000 later today, once we have a full backup that runs to USB.
After extensive researching we are leaning towards the NIC/network being a problem under load causing the BSOD.
Anyone else have any other suggestions we can try to resolve the BSOD issues?

Hi Sir,

It seems that you have performed WMware P2V , it is beyond what we can support . You may need to post this issue into WMware forum :
https://communities.vmware.com/welcome
In windows hyper-v , there is a tool " disk2VHD" can help us to perform P2V :

  • RDP not working after installing Windows 2008 R2 Service Pack 1

    Hi,
We have Windows 2008 R2 Data center editions with Service Pack 1 which we recently implemented. Now when i create new virtual machine in Hyper-V with Windows 2008 R2 Standard edition without Service Pack then i can able to take RDP of virtual server. But
when i install Service Pack 1 on Windows 2008 R2 Standard edition (Virtual Machine) then i can't able to take RDP.
By using local administrator i can take remote desktop but using domain administrator i can't take remote desktop. Domain Administrator is part of Remote Desktop Users group. I tried to reinstall and uninstall KB2667402.
    Your help is highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Arjun
    Arjun V.

    Hi Arjun,
It might happens that it occurs due to some antivirus software. You can try to disable or uninstall the 3rd Party security software in the Windows Server to see whether same issue still exists.
In addition for your issue, another suggestion to try uninstalling the 2 windows updates and then again re-install the update manually with below link provided and restart the server. After restarting check whether the issue still occurs. You need to uninstall
    & re-install manually below 2 updates:
    1.  KB2667402 – Download Link
    2.  KB2621440 – Download Link
    Hope it helps!

  • Windows 2008 R2 Standard side by side error

I have a Dell Poweredge 310 running Windows 2008 R2 Standard. I have update the bios to the latest version and the bios update did take but now all of my 32bit software will not run. I receive the error “The application has failed to start because its side-by-side
configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail”
I have looked over other posts and most have stated to install the C++ redistribution 2008. I was able to install the 64 bit version but I cannot install the 32bit version. I receive the error “The application has failed to start because its side-by-side
configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.”
So I am not able to install any 32bit software.  I have tried to enable the WOW64 feature with the command DISM /online /enable-feature/featurename:ServerCore-WOW64 but get this Error: 0x800f080c Feature name ServerCore-WOW64 is unknown.
I have also tried to use this command to setup WOW64  start /w ocsetup ServerCore-WOW64 I get this “The specified windows component could not be found: ServerCore-WOW64.
I have looked at the .Net 3.5 that comes installed in the Windows Features and it is installed. I do not want to uninstall and reinstall the feature because it will take down the AD and I really do not want to rebuild the AD
Is there some setting I am missing?

  • LMS 4.0 eval on 180-day Windows 2008 Server Standard R2 SP1 eval

I'm having difficulties installing the LMS 4.0 eval on an 64-bit 180-day Windows 2008 Server Standard R2 SP1 eval.
The installer says that it needs 2008 Server Enterprise, but the LMS 4 release notes say 2008 Server Standard works.  It also says that R1 is supported, but makes no specific reference to R2.  I'm assuming that if R1 is supported, R2 would be supported as well, no?

You need to install a patch for this OS support:

  • Installing Dirsync on Windows 2008 Server Standard FE

    Hello all,
I need to Dirsync my only domain controller i have to Office 365.  My server is a Windows 2008 Server Standard FE.  I installed all requirement for dirsync to be installed (and all Windows updates also) and i still get an error when trying to install
(Says my Powershell is not at least 2.0, but it is...)
Anyone tried to install Dirsync on that kind of server ? (and made it work?)
    Regards,

    It is
required to update to Windows Management Framework 3.0 or Powershell 3.0 if you are installing DirSync on Windows 2008 R2.  I believe the same applies to 2008 SP1 as well.
Also, I've heard of issues where non-English versions don't properly detect the presence of PowerShell.  You may want to temporarily change your regional format  to English to test this, if this applies to you.

  • Windows 2008 R2 Standard Remote Desktop Users cannot Connect

I have a windows 2008 R2 Standard Terminal Server and some users aren't able to connect even though they are in groups that are in Remote Desktop Users on the local computer.  I checked the local security policy setting "Allow log on through Remote
Desktop Services" and I see that Remote Desktop Users is a member of this group.  Inside of Remote Desktop Users we have DOMAIN\Domain Users and DOMAIN\Terminal Users.  Most of our users are in both groups, but there are still some people that
aren't able to connect via Remote Desktop to this computer.  There are no users in "Deny logon through Terminal Services."
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Is it happens to all users or any particular group of users?
Please check by creating new user add them to “Remote Desktop Users” group and then see whether that test user can remote desktop to the server.
It also might happens that you may be limited in number of users or some connection issue or may be firewall setting issue. Please go through beneath article for information.

  • SAP on Windows 2008 R2 Standard to Enterprise Edition

    Hello!
We are using SAP NetWeaver System running on Windows 2008 R2 Standard Edition (VM Ware).
We are planning to extend RAM size of this server up to 50GB.
Is there any possibilites for an Inplace Upgrade from Standard to Enterprise Edition?
    Thank you!

Actually, it is possible.  I haven't done it myself, but there is a tool, DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool), that supposedly supports in-place edition upgrades, i.e. exactly what you're describing.  It's talked about in Microsoft Technet at Upgrading Windows Server 2008 R2 without media - Server Core - Site Home - TechNet Blogs.  It's about the same thing as a "Windows Anytime Upgrade" that you see available in Windows 7 or 8, so no reinstall is necessary.
If I recall correctly this wasn't possible in earlier versions of Windows Server, and that's probably what Reagan is remembering.
Let us know how it goes!

    Matt

  • Issue in Upgrading Windows 2008 R2 Standard server to Windows 2012 Standard Srever

    Hi
We have a Windows Server 2008 R2 stadard running... (came with the server).
To use 64GB, we have just purchased a licence key (retail) and downloaded ISO (Evaluation version) to upgrade.
Then I got this error message saying that
"Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard cannot be upgraded to Windows Server 2012 Standard Evaluation (Server with a GUI). You can choose to install a new copy of Windows Server 2012 Standard Evaluation (Server with a GUI) instead, but this is different from
an upgrade, and does not keep your files, settings, and programs."
Well, fresh installation is not an option for me. no way..
I read somewhere that it is because I am trying to upgrade from licenced 2008 R2 standard to evaluation 2012 standard. Then I saw a screenshot where you supply a licence key after selecting an edition to choose..
I don't get that screen sinceit is the evaluation version.
    Well, I am supposed to upgrade the system before the end of the new year...  now I am in a panic.. - - ;;
Can anyone help me with this please???

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Agree with words of “Dave & Tim” and based on my research, we need to perform a clean installation of Windows Server 2012 Evaluation Versions instead upgrading.
However, if we have licensed Windows Server 2012, we can upgrade to Windows Server 2012 by referring to the Upgrading previous retail versions of Windows Server to Windows Server 2012 part of
Evaluation Versions and Upgrade Options for Windows Server 2012.
    Hope it helps!
    Regards.

  • Access Denied when accessing ipc$ but not admin$ of a Windows 2008 R2 Standard server

    From a Windows 2008 R2 Server,
    c:\> net use * \\<winserver2008>\ipc$
    System error 66 has occurred.
The network resource type is not correct.
    c:\> net use * \\<winserver2008>\admin$
Drive Z: is now connected to \\<winserver2008\admin$.
However, running the above commands from a Windows 2003 Server, I have no problem at all.
    Does anyone has any idea?

    Hello nww,
The problem is caused by UAC and the elevated privileges required to access the administrative shares. This
Microsoft KB article (951016) describes the issue in Windows Vista
To better protect those users who are members of the local Administrators group, we implement UAC restrictions on the network. This mechanism helps prevent against "loopback" attacks. This mechanism also helps prevent local malicious software
from running remotely with administrative rights.
and the steps to resolve it, open a new PowerShell window as administrator:
New-ItemProperty HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System -name "LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy" -value "1" -propertyType dword
A word of caution: this is opening up a security hole and it should only be done with careful consideration of the risks. The need to use PSExec to remotely run a process was an important part of the deployment, however the same result
could be achieved using PowerShell remoting. Until it’s tested and we’re ready to deploy that, I’ll be using this method.

  • Upgrade Windows 2008 R2 Standard to 2008 R2 Enterprise fails

    Hi,
I am trying to perform an in place upgrade from Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard to Enterprise. I want to setup some things with failover clustering. The install goes all the way to the last step where it is transferring files and then it hangs. This server
is in my home and I don't have a plethora of servers to play with so I need to upgrade. This server is an HP ProLiant ML330 G6. My other server is a DL385G2 running 2008 R2 Enterprise. They are different because I was scouring eBay and pounced when a deal
    came up. :-)
This server is a DC and it is running:
    DHCP
    DNS
    Exchange 2010
    MS Forefront Security
    Print Server
    DFS Namespace
DFSR (I have a second server that it replicates with)
All HP services (But I disable them for the upgrade)
I suspect that it is failing on a print driver but I am not sure. I disabled all non-MS services from boot. I also added the system environment variable with the iphlp dll. (can't recall it right at this moment)
The way I have been doing this is to power off the server, break the RAID 1 O/S mirror by removing 1 of the drives, power up and run the upgrade. If it fails, I power off, insert the drive I removed and pop out the "upgraded" drive. Boot up, pop
in the failed upgrade drive and let it rebuild.
Any thoughts? The last time it failed I let it back out the upgrade and I copied off a bunch of the setup log files before I restored the previous mirrored drive.
I am also contemplating upgrading this server to 2012 R2. Would using my RAID 1 method above work? I don't know if the upgrade will change something with the server's computer account therefore not allowing me to revert to 2008 R2.
Lastly, I know that I shouldn't have all of these services on one server, but this is in my home and not a work environment. It runs fairly flawlessly.

    Hi,
In addition to Dave Patrick, what is the error message when you upgrade failed?
    Meanwhile, please check this article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/server_core/archive/2009/10/14/upgrading-windows-server-2008-r2-without-media.aspx
It seems like the server can't be a DC at the time of upgrade.  If you demote a DC using dcpromo, you can upgrade, then re-promote it.

  • BSOD after installing Windows Vista Update Package

Ok, so I am not good with computers, so I have no idea what to do. I have looked everywhere and still cannot find a solution that seems plausible with my error.
The other day I was on my computer and it was running perfectly fine. No freezing, no slowness, perfect. Then, my update thing told me that the most recent Vindows Service pack was available for update, and I like to keep up-to-date with them, so I installed and it was set to automatically update.
I have an IBM ThinkPad t61p with Windows Vista Ultimate.
After restarting the computer I left for a while and came back to the checkdisk running. I had not told it to run, and it had frozen at 74% on step 5/5 of the checkdisk, which I am assuming means that I have some sort of hard drive corruption. So, I was forced to turn off with holding the power button and when it turned on again it went straight to the diskcheck and I watched it until it froze at the same point again. The next time I restarted I got the blue screen of death and now that is all I get whether I start in safe mode, or any other mode.
I had a virus or something a while ago that kept freezing my computer, but I think I got rid of it as it has been working fine over the past 5/6 weeks. I also don't think it is a problem with not having enough RAM because I just uninstalled a couple programs that were taking up a lot of space, and even before that it wasn't close to full.
I get stop: 0x00000024 error and it goes into a restart loop
When I press the blue ThinkVantage button and go to the F11 menu it tries to open rescue and recovery, but after about 2 minutes it goes back to the infinite restart loop.
I also tried running the hard drive diagnostics program and IDK how to interpret the results, but it says:
Main Hard Disk Drive.......HDD0: HITACHI (gives me the id code)
    Status......Test in progress 100%
Result......Pass: Controller Diag, Pass: Read verification and speed test
I have no idea what is wrong and it is so frustrating!!!!!!! What should I do if I can even do anything?! I need help!!!! T_T
(As a last resort I also tried installing XP on my Vista machine. I didn't think it would work, but I put boot CD in the first spot, and put cd in, but it just goes to the BSOD again.)

this error is so much obvius.
just look on internet on how to disable readyboost. additional just turn off the hybrid function and u will never see this bsod again, even i dont know how dumb ur mediacenter edition is and want to give u other bsods. btw i only seen bsods couse of **bleep** driver on my devices. donno how u manage to get such bluescreens......
btw according to the results i recommning ya to use ckhdsk /f to ur disk. mstWorker is mentioned wich means read write issues on access files. mstworker is microsoft Tiworker, an process wich examines files an bit. used by winupdate and the indexer.
