Technical Specification for Enterprise Portal

Our EP consultant left without delivering Technical Specification. Now, we need to prepare this document mainly for handover to support team. Coming from BW background, I have little knowledge on what is expected in the document.
What I can think of at the moment are that we need to document the followings:
1. Portal Content structure
2. iViews Configuration
3. Portal Display
Is there anything else missing? Or can someone share with me the structure of a complete Enterprise Portal Technical Specification?
Thank you very much!

Hi  M. Syuhair,
That's a rather unfortunate situation that you have walked into where the implementer has left without documentation.
I would start the document with a blueprint diagram of the platform landscape, with each of the logical instances purposes described. You should include the OS and DB versions and any specifics on security zoning you may have. Then move into a diagram for transport flows and description of the purpose of the Portal. i.e. used for BI and ESS/MSS scenarios.
Also I would describe the integration with the solution, how security is provided, what other components are integrated (i.e. document repositories), how transports are performed (CTS, NWDI etc) and what systems are connected and SLD connectivity. Also mention UWL and Adobe services if they are deployed and anything else that represents significant usage.
After this point you can dig deeper into the detail and provide a description of the details of the business packages with versions you have deployed to the portal (use the NWA to look up package versions if you donu2019t know this already) along with the name spaces and PCD hierarchy that has been chosen to ensure standards are followed during maintenance by the support team.
Remember your support staff should be starting with at a minimum a basic understanding of standard SAP Portal implementations so getting to the detail of how each iView is configured would be taking the document too far.
Your purpose of the document is in providing the framework for support to be able to know what standards they should follow and how to quickly find out the implementation specific details. This should be your objective.
Starting this from scratch without any portal experience is not advisable, I would suggest you engage another Portal consultant to perform the task as familiarity with the core solution is really a must.

Daniel

  • Business Package for SAP Best Practices for Enterprise Portal

    Hi,
We are implementing EP for ECC 5.0 and we have to web enable some FI transactions like FB50/fb60 etc. We want to use standard business package for this. The only business package that caters this requirement is "Business Package for SAP Best Practices for Enterprise Portal 60.1". When i checked the data source for this business package, the specification is for "SAP R/3 4.6B and above". Does this work for ECC 5.0 as well? In general does the R/3 specific business packages work for ECC versions? Please let me know. Thanks for the help.  I promise rewards.
    Regards
    Hari

    Hari,
When you download the BPO via Portal Content Portfolio,
each bpo has additional information on the release.
    For example for the one you are inquiring about - Business Package for SAP Best Practices for Enterprise Portal, the additional release information is provided on the following links;

  • Pro/cons for dev. environments for Enterprise Portal components

    Hi
I am looking for some positives and some negatives that should be considered when a client needs to decide on which development environment to use for Portal development. I am aware of three products, Visual Composer, Web Dynpro and NW Developer Studio.
Is there anyone who can briefly try to explain the positives and negatives with each?
    Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
    Kind Regards,
    Thomas Kjelsrud

    Hi Thomas,
    first, welcome on SDN!
    Then about your question:
The standard IDE for any kind of portal components / applications is the NetWeaver Developer Studio (NWDS). By this, you can develop different things (EJBs etc pp), but also portal specific projects (in the end: PAR files, based on AsbtractPortalComponent, DynPages or JSPDynPages) as well es WebDynpro applications. The latter are able to run standalone (ie not driven by EP, but by WAS J2EE 6.40), but there is also a tight integration into the portal environment.
If this is understood, you know that the question "NWDS or WebDynpro" does not make sense, for WebDynpro is developed through NWDS.
A first overview about this issue so far is https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/documents/a1-8-4/exploring java programming models with sap netweaver developer studio.pdf
In that PDF, also the relationship of the tool NWDS and the programming model of WebDynpro is given (even if the term "relationship" may be misguiding, it's more that these two things are to be seen in a comparison, for they use different techniques, are meant for different aims etc.)
The VC is a totaly visual tool to build "applications" for EP mainly based on access to R/3 as backend system, for example. So it's focus is on building UIs which access backend information. That for sure is important for backend integration into EP, but the term "application" does not really fit.
For VC see https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/documents/a1-8-4/developing code-free business applications using visual composer - beginner.abst and https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/documents/a1-8-4/visual composer - a model-driven development tool for enterprise portal iviews.pdf as an introduction.
    Hope it helps

  • Understand the technical base for Enterprise Services?

    Hi all,
I am trying to understand what is the technical base for enterprise services and the restrictions when activating them. The best documents I have found are:
Note 1566412 u2013 Enhancement package 6 for SAP ERP 6.0.
Note 1359215 u2013 Technical prerequisites for using enterprise services
sdn blog u201CDetermin the SOA readiness of your System with the ES Workplace (Part 1 and 2)
    EHP Master Guide - https://websmp107.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700001183052011E
The documents are quite informative, however there are still questions. Maybe someone can shed some light of these:
1.) Is my understanding correct that Enterprise services can have three different base u201Cmodulesu201D?:
    a. An EHP (with relation to a business function).
    b. The swc u201CESA ECC-SE 60xu201D (without relation to a business function). E.G. ES Bundle "Bank Communication Management".
    c. The SWC u201CSAP APPLu201D (without relation to a business function). E.G. u201CBusinessPartnerERPUpdateRequestConfirmation_Inu201D
2.) Is it possible to activate enterprise services (bundles) that rely on business functions after a EHP installation or ONLY during the EHP installation?
3.) Is it possible to activate enterprise services with base u201CESA ECC-SE 60xu201D after a EHP installation or ONLY during the EHP installation?
4.) Is SWC u201CESA ECC-SE 60xu201D a u201Ctechnicalu201D business function, whose activation cannot be reverted either? If yes what effect has the activation von u201CESA ECC-SE 60xu201D on the current ERP customizing?
5.) How do the Enterprise Services relate with Service Interface definitions from SAP Process Integration (XI Content)?
Do I need the XI Content with the service interfaces in ES Repository (and SPROXY) only if the communication is B2B (with PI) or also if the communication is Point-2-Point (without PI)?
    Thanks for your feedback!
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
I'll try and provide answers where I can...
1.) Is my understanding correct that Enterprise services can have three different base u201Cmodulesu201D?:
I personally don't agree with this understanding. Enterprise Services would always relate to some or other business function, unless we have a different understanding of what "Business Function" means . What changes is how the Enterprise Services (or versions of them) are delivered.
SAP APPL for example would be relevant to most of the enterprise services shipped with a standard ECC EHP*. So it will relate to the business functionality for the applications that are shipped with an ECC installation.
2.) Is it possible to activate enterprise services (bundles) that rely on business functions after a EHP installation or ONLY during the EHP installation?
I don't understand this question but I'll try and offer a generic answer. You can activate/use Enterprise Services whenever you want to as long as they are already available in your current installation. If they are only available in an EHP that you don't have yet then you will need to upgrade (but I also seem to recall some workarounds - SAP notes - as an alternative to upgrading).
3.) Is it possible to activate enterprise services with base u201CESA ECC-SE 60xu201D after a EHP installation or ONLY during the EHP installation?
You decide when you would like to activate it, it's generally after. SAP will ship them anyway.
4.) Is SWC u201CESA ECC-SE 60xu201D a u201Ctechnicalu201D business function, whose activation cannot be reverted either? If yes what effect has the activation von u201CESA ECC-SE 60xu201D on the current ERP customizing?
There is a tool call Impact Analyzer, read up a little on it. It allows you to do an impact analysis before activating. It might also help posting a separate thread on of the ECC functional forums here on SCN for more impact analysis. I'm not sure if the activation can be reverted.
5.) How do the Enterprise Services relate with Service Interface definitions from SAP Process Integration (XI Content)?
The XI Content is the design equivalent of the Enterprise Services as you see them in SPROXY. It's only relevant in certain cases, examples:
    - If you want to enhance standard SAP Enterprise Services
    - If you want to do additional transformation/s & routing.
If you are planning P2P type communication, then the XI content is not relevant. One thing to be aware of though is if you have your backend ECC system connected to your PI ESR, the view that you get in SPROXY will reflect the SWC view of the ESR. So you might want to download the XI Content & import it into your PI ESR anyway.

    Hi,
How do I identify the enhancement pack for enterprise portal?
Also where is the information on the new features in the EHP 3 for portal listed?
    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi Mahantesh,
Please remember that the Portal is part of the SAP NetWeaver, so all the improvements will be contained in the EhP for NetWeaver.
I'd like to refer you to the SAP Enhancement Package 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 page here in SDN

  • A technical specification for MC007ZE/A

    Hello!
Let me know can I get a technical specification for MC007ZE/A. Our organization is going to buy a big batch of these displays. For this we need a technical specification. I've found out this document http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1554/en_US/LED_Cinema_Display_27-in ch_UG.pdf but it does't containt the number 'MC007ZE/A'. This paper formality associated with the features of our supplier.

Click here for information; the ZE and LL are country codes which don't affect the model's specifications.

  • Windows 10 Technical Preview for "Enterprise"?

What's different between "Windows 10 Technical Preview for Enterprise" and "Windows 10 Technical Preview"

    Hi guys,
this might sound stupid, but how do I see if I have the Enterprise Technical Preview or the other one installed? I'm pretty sure I downloaded and installed the enterprise version, but I can't find any proof within the system itself? The System Information
    just says "Windows Technical Preview".
    Thanks
    Stefan
    Something like this but correct the path;
    dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:E:\Recovery\install.wim
If it doesn't say enterprise, its not.
Seems there are three installs that's ive seen.
    Windows Technical Preview
    Windows Technical Preview for Consumer
    Windows Technical Preview for Enterprise
Thanks Mike, i no found out that i did not had the Enterprise Edition. Downloaded it now and even in Computer Information it says Enterprise now. Thank you.

  • Want to prepare for enterprise portal development certification

    Hi,
please guide me how should I go ahead to prepare for enterprise portal certification.
1.Is there any eligibility for work experienec, if I dont attend SAP proprietary training courses, and prepere self?
    2. Is it really worth to prepare and give examination? Is it really makiing any impact in market to be certified?
how much time duration looks OK, to get certified
as I am in US, California, what are chnaces to get a suitable date to give exam.
    Thanks in advance.

    Ankit,
    1. Usually you would need 3-6 months of EP development experience. This blog may help.
    /people/umair.salam/blog/2005/12/13/beginning-ep-development
Some of the courses mentioned on link above can be done online.
    2. With experience and certification and the market need for EP developers, your chances of getting placed/hired are much better.
With not attending courses, it may take you 4-6 months on Self-Learning.
You can call SAP Education (1-888-777-1727, option 1) and schedule a test for either C_TEP15_04, or go to

  • Product Specification or Technical Specification for a HP G6000 laptop?

Does anyone have or know where I might find the Product Specification or Technical Specification for a HP G6000 laptop? I'm particularly interested in the hard drive installed. My daughters laptop HD has crashed so I can't even boot it up to find the HD spec., and although I have removed it, I find it is a Toshiba HDD2D62 120GB Sata 2.5". I can't find a similar one anywhere or a website that provides a suitable compatible HD. Any suggestions anyone?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
The laptop is probably a SATA I one so SATA (not SATA II)  hard drives should work on the laptop. I believe that any SATA hdd up to 160GB should work.

  • Mobile Synchronization for Enterprise Portal

    Hello,
I ve to implement Mobile Synchronization for Enterprise Portal of my Organization .How do i go about doing this . I am very new to sap Netweaver Platform . please guide me with ur views , important links & documents .
(Generous Points Will Be Awarded   )
    Thanking you,
    Theja Anand

    Hi Theja,
there is no standard functionality for synchronizing content from the portal to a mobile device... as far as I know.
What kind of content do you need an the mobile devices?
"Synching" SAP transactions can be achieved with SAP Mobile Infrastructure, but you have to develop the needed applications especially for the mobile plattform and those apps are not integrated in the portal...
