Tecra S5-10X issues

Hi,
Few months ago I bought TECRA S5-10X.
My first step was chance of OS from Vista to XP (did not work for me, and for my special software and hardware).
Now installed XP system works fine, but have few issues! (All needed drivers are installed, ofcourse form toshiba support page.)
1. I get audio skips and errors in playback, no mather which player I use or driver I install (It's happening in XP and in Vista)
2. I also received bluescreen error. somethin about tcpip.sys...
3. I have one device in Control Panel which is not installed and there is no driver for it. It is called "PCI Memory Controller". Maybe this controller solve first two issues, but I don't know if or where driver exist...
Thanks for any help...
Dean

Regarding the point:
1) Does the audio skips happens while plying the audio files from HDD of from CD? Should check it!
2) The tcpip.sys is a TCP/IP Protocol Driver process and the BSOD could be caused due to the old LAN driver or an 3rd party software.
Do you have installed any 3rd party software? I would recommend updating the Lan driver, XP and to install all patches from MS site!
3) The PCI Memory Controller is Intel Turbo Memory also called Intel Flash cache logic chip. Its a new technology designed to support new Vista cache function. There is no driver for it for Windows XP, because XP doesnt support the cache function, it is supported only by Vista

  • Tecra A2 backlight issue - image is very faint

    Hi
    I have a Tecra A2 with a backlight problem.
The LCD is displaying correctly, but without any backlight the image is very faint.
When the laptop is booted the display lights up perfectly for about 3 seconds before turning off. The laptop successsfully boots and can be used with an external monitor. If I now close the lid the laptop backlight lights up again for a few seconds before going off again. I have tried a new backlight inverter which had no effect. The lid closed sensor is the magnetic type (presumably a reed relay) and measures 100Kohms when open? and 0 ohms when closed.
Could this 100K be the problem?
Has anyone experienced any of these symptons or does anyone have any backlight inverter data, i'm wondering if I have a second faulty inverter.
Could this be a faulty FL backlight issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    You are right Philip.
For me it looks like the faulty FL-inverter too
You said that the display on the external monitor looks fine. So we can eliminate a GPU fault.
I think your should contact the ASP in your country. The technician should check the faulty part (probably FL inverter) and should replace it with a new, compatible one.
    >i'm wondering if I have a second faulty inverter
I see you have already replaced the one FL inverter and the issue still appears hmm to be honest I believe you have used a wrong one but who knows nothing is impossible.
So ask the ASP technician for the further handling
    Best regards and good luck

  • Tecra A5: touchpad issues only when AC adaptor connected

    Hi,
I have a very strange pb with my tecra a5: when I plug the power supply, my touchpad behaves strangely (latency), as soon as I unplug the power touchpad is ok.
I have tried many things (including total reinstall + changing the touchpad), the pb is still there.
    Any idea or similar experience?

Incredible, it solved my issue. In fact I had another AC adaptor (same model, same version), with this one the problem is no more there.
By parsing the forum I saw someone had the problem only when using his computer at home equiped with CPL, which is also my case ...
I wouldn't be surprised it's a matter of filter in the AC adaptor which are more or less sensitive to voltage spikes involved by CPL plugs.
    Anyway thx for your help!

  • Memory issue on my Tecra S1

    Hi:
My Tecra S1 has been used for more than 4 years and sent back to replace one of the RAMs because of the call-back activity lunched by Toshiba around 3 years ago . Just a few days ago the OS (XP) becomes very unstable and crashed. After playing around with it for a while, I realise that the ram modules have a strange problem.
Within the last 3 years, these two RAMs got along with each other very well, but strangely they become kind of incompatible anymore. One from call-back activity by Toshiba is 256MB DDR333, and the other one is 512MB DDR266 which I upgraded by myself when the laptop had just been bought 4 years back. If I use either of them regardless of which slot, the XP works fine, but it goes crazy and keeps giving me blue screens once I try to log into XP and keeps restarting by itself if I put both of them together. By the way, I use Memtest86 to scan both RAMs, and there is no error message about them.
Has anyone had similar experience? or any suggestion will be appreciated.
    Many thanks.

    Hi, JayJay:
Many thanks for replying. That BSOD is really a nightmare. Regarding to your advise, probably I will get another DDR266 or DDR333 RAM module so it can run smoother than now.
The idea of compatibility issue does come to my mind, but the DDR333 RAM should be backward-compatible with DDR266. It is really something which does not make any sense to me (not talking about your advise, purely mean the behavior of my laptop, please don't get me wrong). The issue did not turn up with last three years but appears just right at the moment I badly need it. Probably it is aging.... Haaaaa, don't let me down, Tecra......

  • Tecra M10 - Stuck CTRL key issue -- perhaps to do with BIOS?

    Hello and thanks for reading.
I recently switched my Tecra M10 to Windows 7 (from XP) and it soon developed the dreaded "stuck CTRL key" issue. This causes the keyboard to behave as if the CTRL key is permanently depressed. Sometimes hitting a combination of keys, or bringing up the onscreen keyboard, temporarily solves the issue, but then it returns.
It seems to be an issue many people have, with no simple solution. I've looked at every thread about it I can find, and tried many things to do with drivers etc. without any success.
So firstly, if anyone knows a remedy that works for this particular machine, I would be very grateful to learn it!
Then, there are two things I've not yet done: update BIOS and disable pinch zoom.
I was looking at the following BIOS update:
    http://www.toshiba-asia.com/sg/support/drivers/details/25244
... which is version 3.00 and seems to be most recent. My own version is 1.90.
However version 3.00 is labelled "For PTMB0* ONLY". I don't know what this means or whether it applies to me. Can anyone help? Should I install this BIOS?
For the pinch zoom, I've been told that disabling it does sometimes cure the CTRL problem -- but I can't find any pinch zoom facility on the M10. I suspect it simply doesn't have one. Is that right?
Many thanks for any help you can give.

    Hi
    > I was looking at the following BIOS update. which is version 3.00 and seems to be most recent. My own version is 1.90.
There are different Tecra M10 models on the market.
Check the labels at the bottom of the unit. There you should find some numbers like for example PTMB0E-01K00LGR
The first 6 characters are important: for example PTMB0E
I assume your notebook belongs to European series.
In such case you should check the Toshiba EU driver page for possible BIOS update.
    http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
However, on Toshiba EU driver page you will find also the BIOS v3.0 for all European Tecra M10 units.
Anyway, back to the CTRL button issue: guess what, you should connect an external USB keyboard and should check how the CTRL button acts.
In case the USB keyboard would work properly, the CTRL button of internal keyboard is affected and you will need to replace the internal keyboard.
PS: it could be possible that the option "sticky keys" has been enabled. To disable this function, you have to press SHIFT button 5 times in the row.

  • Tecra A11 - Video/Latest BIOS issues

    Hello All,
I just received a Toshiba Tecra A11 the other day which is out of warranty (Refurb). When I got the laptop there was an issue where the picture was displayed at 1024x768 and off centre (In BIOS). The image was 1-2cm off screen to the left, with about 5-6cm black space to the right of the picture, the bottom 2-3 cm's of the picture were also off the bottom of the screen.
I installed Ubuntu Studio initially and attempted to force the display to a widescreen resolution. I didn't have any luck, I also installed Win7 but still with the latest drivers I had no luck.
This was strange because BIOS was displayed the same way so naturally I decided to upgrade to the latest BIOS version. The BIOS on the laptop was quite old (End of 2009).
I downloaded the BIOS update from Toshiba's web site, and ran the update.
The new BIOS was installed and the machine rebooted.
However there was no picture displayed on the LCD panel, windows did successfully boot, if I connect an external monitor to the laptop I get picture. When starting the laptop the LCD backlight does light up.
My question is: What can I do to resolve this issue? Is there a BIOS recovery or downgrade tool available? Is it possible to reflash the bios? What is recommended?
    Thanks.

    > The new BIOS was installed and the machine rebooted.
    > However there was no picture displayed on the LCD panel, windows did successfully boot, if I connect an external monitor to the laptop I get picture. When starting the laptop the LCD backlight does light up.
Does this mean that everything is ok using external monitor?
Can you access the BIOS pressing F2 and can you set it to default settings?
Usually you can switch between external and internal display using the key combination FN + F5. Does it work?

  • Tecra A8, WinXP SP2 - issue with built-in speakers

    Hello there,
I know this issue has been brought up a few times, but I can't find a solution.
I recently inherited a Toshiba Tecra A8. Problem is : the built-in speakers can't seem to work, but the sound is just fine on external speakers or headphones. The speakers used to work at some point in the past, but the previous owner can not tell me what caused the sudden change.
Here's what I did, chronologically, after browsing multiple forums :
    - SP3 was installed when I got the computer. I tried to revert back to SP2.
    - I've reinstalled XP (had to, machine was too slow). SP2 came with the install CD.
    - I've installed two XP hotfixes that were supposed to solve the problem : KB835221 and KB888111
    - I've re-installed the Realtek Audio HD codec
    - I always try muting/unmuting after everything I do, even before or after a reboot.
Here's what I can tell so far :
    - Sound icon is present on the system tray. All volumes are up, whether on the Windows sound manager or on the Realtek one.
    - I do not have DOS beeps.
    - I'm still on SP2. Didn't try moving on to SP3 (on this new XP install, of course).
    - Before I did reinstall Realtex Audio HD, the "internal" option listed under "I/O audio" was shown, but I couldn't access it. After the reinstall, it simply disappeared.
I think that's pretty much it. I came across the same solutions on different forums or group discussions. I've been searching for two days now, to no avail. The computer has never been dropped or damaged, and since it seems that a lot of people experience(d) the same problem as mine, I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware problem. Well, I hope it's not.
So there. I urge you, nay, I beg you to work your magic and come up with a flawless, absolute solution that will give me back the joy of listening to Justin Bieber in peace. Or something else.
    Thanks in advance !
    Toshiba Tecra A8
    Windows XP Pro 2002
    SP2
    Intel Core 2
    T5500 1.66GHz

    > the built-in speakers can't seem to work, but the sound is just fine on external speakers or headphones. The speakers used to work at some point in the past, but the previous owner can not tell me what caused the sudden change.
The speakers dont work but the sound is coming from headphones and external speakers?
Well, this would mean that your sound driver is OK and this is probably a speaker related problem. I think it speaker hardware malfunction :(

  • Tecra A11 - keyboard space key issue

Just wonder, if someone with an A11 has similar issues or if my keyboard needs to be replaced.
When I am typing, very often the space key is not accepted. Very annoying when you type without looking at the text all the time.

    Hello
Im not Tecra A11 owner but on my other Toshiba notebooks I never had a problem with the keyboard. Every key will recognized properly if I press it.
I assume your Tecra A11 is pretty new and so its still under warranty. Therefore contact nearest authorized service provider. The guys can replace the keyboard because there are no single keys available.
But dont be worry about this, this is covered by warranty. :)

  • Re: Tecra M11 - Outlook anywhere connection issue

    Hello,
Has anyone tried to connect to an Exchange server with Outlook Anywhere on the factory installation of Windows 7 and Office 2010? The authentication window keeps popping up asking for a user name and password. (DOMAIN\Username)
I've been trying to get this working (with Microsoft tech support also), but haven't been able to. I've installed an Enterprise copy of Win 7 with Office 2010 & 2007 and got the same result. I tried this with a Tecra M10 with both a factory restore of Win7 and an Enterprise copy of Win7 from my company and it worked flawlessly.
This leads me to believe that this particular model of laptop could be the culprit. I have 2 M11's, and this happens on both. These are not connected to any domain. I don't believe this is an Exchange issue because Outlook Anywhere works with other models of Toshiba Tecras running Win7 and also several standalone Win7 PCs running both Office 2010 and 2007.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

I've just restored the M11 to Windows XP with the disks provided and Outlook Anywhere connected without issue. As strange as it sounds, this looks to be isolated to this particular model of laptop and Windows 7.
I've used the same Enterprise copy of Windows 7 and Office on a variety of laptops and pc's and none have come across this problem. The only commonality I can see is the hardware and OS.
Aftery trying to troubleshoot this unsuccessfully with Microsoft tech support for a few hours, they eluded to the fact that this +could+ be a hardware related problem. (driver, adapter properties, etc)

  • Tecra R840 - Ethernet and sound driver Dynadock issue

    Hey,
Tecra R840, model PT429A-007004, does not work correctly with the Toshiba dyna dock.
Specifically, the Ethernet and the audio driver for the dyna dock is not installed after running either the driver install from the dyna dock cd or running the latest driver from the website.
Does anyone know a fix for this?
Note: there is nothing in device manager to say that these drivers for the dock a missing, only when installing the driver does the wizard mention that the Ethernet and audio drivers could not be installed.
It also mentions that the dynadock has an issue with the on board graphics card but we have not had any issues with graphics, i.e. screens.

    Hey,
    Sorry for the late reply.
That fix does not resolve the issue.
Manually adding the drivers removes the yellow exclamations marks and fixes the audio, but it does not fix the Ethernet connection. So, currently we have had to plug the Ethernet cable directly into the model of laptop mentioned above instead of the dock.
    Firmware update has not helped.
Can anyone from Toshiba please test this and let me know their thoughts or perhaps a solution if found? It would be greatly appreciated.

  • BIOS password issue on Tecra A9

My laptop Toshiba Tecra A9 have a problem with the BIOS password and I was wondering if you could provide me the password since I can not access anything without it

BIOS password is very important security feature and such issues cannot be clarified on public forum.
All problems with BIOS password must be clarified with Toshiba service provider.
If your notebook is blocked by password and you cannot access it please contact nearest Toshiba service and they can remove it for you.

  • Query In SP runs 10x slower than straight query - NOT Parameter Sniffing Issue

    Hi Everyone,
I have a real mystery on my hands that appears to be a parameter sniffing issue with my SP but I think is not. I have tried every parameter sniffing workaround trick in the book ( local variables, option recompile, with recompile, optimize for variables,UNKNOWN,
table hints, query hints, MAXDOP, etc.) I have dropped indexes/recreated indexes, updated statistics, etc. I have restored a copy of the DB to 2 different servers ( one with identical HW specs as the box having the issue, one totally different ) and the SP
runs fine on those 2, no workarounds needed. Execution plans are identical on all boxes. When I run a profiler on the 2 different boxes however, I see that on the server having issues, the Reads are around 8087859 while the other server with identical HW,
the reads are 10608. Not quite sure how to interpret those results or where to look for answers. When the sql server service is restarted on the server having issues and the sp is run, it runs fine for a time ( not sure how long ) and then goes back to its
snail pace speed. Here is the profile trace:
Here is the stored procedure. The only modifications I made were the local variables to eliminate the obvious parameter sniffing issues and I added the WITH NOLOCK hints:

  • Tecra A11 - LED backlight issue

I have big pain in my eyes after day of work with Tecra A11 BIOS V1.7 = newest BIOS update. Wenn I bought it there was BIOS 1.4 the same problem with eyes, LED backlight killing my eyes, big pain after day of work. V1.5 and 1.6 are much better (no pain) but new BIOS 1.7 is the same eye-killer as 1.4.
Who is going to help me? Users of this forum?
I want Toshiba people to help me, they sell 1/2 ready product, absolutely bad work! No contacts to Toshiba just this user forum. Is Toshiba interested in my problem with his bad Tecra A11 notebook and stupid BIOS updates? I am really angry, never had such problems with so expensive notebook. So excuse my emoutions I start to hate Toshiba for the extremly bad experience with this Tecra A11. Why should some users of this forum help me? I paid a lot of money to Toshiba, so I want Toshiba people to tell me what they do in their BIOS updates, what stupidity kill my eyes with LCD backlight. How many BIOS updates will be needed to make Tecra A11 working properly for 800 EUR? I will never more buy something from Toshiba.

    Thanks Xardas,
One week and we have BIOS Update 1.9 !! = aproximately one update a week. On one side very nice to see that Toshiba takes care of the problems. On other hand why are so many updates needed? Was this Tecra A11 is sold as final product with 1/2 unfunctional BIOS? Wenn I bougt it I had BIOS 1.4 and I tell you there were mistakes even when you went through the menu, so if someone tested it in Toshiba he could see it. So I have really feeling that Toshiba didnot test BIOS properly. That is maybe why they need to update BIOS so oft. They use users as testers, what is for some rare problems OK, but not for common bugs!
Why does not Toshiba describe what exactly is updated in new BIOS version? Where can I find this information, e.g. what is changed between BIOS 1.6 and 1.7 and so on.? I need this information because I really do not know what is going to happen if I update to 1.9 now. I do not want to spend another day with playing with bios, and in worst case to kill my eyes with bug in LED Backlight. So where can I find what is new in BIOS 1.9 ?
My LED Backlighting problem is in BIOS 1.4 and 1.7. You cannot see that something is happening, but after day of work (8 hours) I cannot look at Tecra A11 monitor any more, because of pain iu my eyes. I thing this happens because LEDs in Backlight are too strong and maybe Toshiba uses some kind of pulse modulation to control LED brightnes. So you see brightnees is low (no strong), but in reality maybe you get a strong flasshing LED light into your eyes whitout brain sense for it. So you see normal backlight, but mayby you become very short time strong impulses of LED full intensity into your eyes what you do not notice, only as pain after many hours. This is my explanaition but I didnot measured it. Toshiba sold notebook with Bios 1.4 and immediately updated to 1.5 where this problem was solved. Thats why I was thinking that they know about this problem and they just solved it for ever. But in V1.7 problem ware back, and my eyes took 2 days to recover from pain. So it is really angry bug and I do not know if to stay by Bios 1.6 or to try update to 1.9. I want Toshiba to describe what is going on in BIOS updates.
Maybe this is problem of only my notebook so I will try to contact authoorized service provider, but I would be really positively suprised if they know what to do with it. We will see. But please if you know, answer me where is information what is new in BIOS Updates from Toshiba. Thanks

  • Tecra S2: DVD burning issue

    Hi to everybody,
we are in 4 and we have about the same problem when we try to write a DVD with ours notebooks, using nero6 the error message usually is "there was a problem in powe supply" or "trace destination not valid" (I try to translate from italian error code). In any case on all our notebooks Tecra S2 it is quite impossible to write one DVD correctly. The DVD hardware is TEAC DV-W28E, the driver used is by Microsoft
    Thanks to all

    Hello Andrea
One of my colleagues has the same unit. A few minutes ago I talked with him and he told me that since one year he had no problems burning any CD or DVD (both formats) with Nero version 6.
Because of that I can really not understood why you have this problem. Try to remove all burning applications, remove the drive from device manager and restart the unit. The drive should be recognized and installed again. Test it again.
Sorry but I don?t see any other possibility.
By the way: if you use recovery media to reinstall OS it will not take too long time, just maybe 20 minutes.
    Good luck!
