Template for Web Reference Movie

I had been using QuickTime Pro to produce Web Reference Movies and associated files. They seemed to work but thought they were having problems with the campus filewall under wifi but that might not be a problem after all.
I finally worked out that Compresor 4 expects to output .mov files when creating web reference movies. Compressor 3 had a template for web reference movies but its not provided with Compressor 4. I will play with the settings (comparing with QTPro files) but thought I'd ask if others have any suggestions/recommendations for output stream settings.

ESSO-LM Template for Web App with select tag

Hi everyone,
I am tasked with creating a template for a web application and the desired behaviour is that when logging into the application the language will be selected from <select> list.
It seems that the ESSO only allows to choose from the list only based on the the title="xxx" the xxx between <option>xxx</option> tags (the actual code is <option value="yy" title="xxx">xxx</option>). The problem I face is that the "xxx" string changes based on the language selected (e.g. when English version is selected, xxx values are in English; if German is selected, xxx values are in German; etc.).
Is there any way ESSO can change the language in the list (using the Input Element Type "Select-One") using the value="yy" or do I have to push for the universal, language independent, naming convention for "xxx" string?

Custom module templates for Web Apps

Just wanting to see if there's anyone out there who knows if the custom module templates from the September release are available for Web Apps? I can't seem to get them to work.
When placing {module_webapps,8168,a template=”/custom/wap-contract.tpl”} I get a "No Items Found" response. I would appreciate help as this would be very useful in building Web Apps and I can't find documentation on it

They do work with Web Apps, I've been able to use it successfully. Here is the only documentation I can find on it so far:

Curious though, when you get "No items found" that means there are no web app items to show. So we don't really know if your custom template worked or not. If you can get some items to show up and they use the default layout, then we know something is wrong.

You don't. That isn't how Web Dynpro works. The architecture is such that it abstracts the HTML/JavaScript rendering of the output. You place a UI element on the screen and only a metadata reprsentation of the screen is created at design time. At runtime different rendering engines can be applied to produce the final output. This allows SAP to add new rendering engines and to improve the rendering engines over time without having to adjust the applicaitons itself. This makes Web Dynpro sutiable for producing Business Transactions, but not general web pages. It also gives us the flexibility to render Web Dynpro in HTML/JavaScript, a desktop client (.Net 3.0 and WPF), and a RIA client (Adobe Flex).
You can alter the theme of the WDA application when running in HTML rendering. The theme gets automatically inherited from the NetWeaver Portal - or you can apply a stanalone theme when running without the portal. Theming allows for some basic changes of color scheme and branding elements - but is not the same as applying a complete HTML template.

Web Reference Movies

I am trying to save a reference movie from my quicktime streaming server but every time I save it I am stuck with the afp protocol, requiring anyone who wants to watch it to authenticate (which they obviously can't). How do I save the reference movie with an http protocol?

clicking on the sign activates the href to the reference movie, which chooses the 'iPhoto exported' slideshow to play from another server. Since the 7.4 updates, nothing plays.

There is an example in SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio Documentation for creating a Web Dynpro Application accessing ABAP functions. It references the initial Web Dynpro project template file: TutWD_FlightList_Init.zip. How can I get it?
It is not available in the SAP Developer Network (Web Application Server area | Samples and Tutorials).

Need help making template for starting a movie score project

What should I add to a template that I made to make it good for importing and working with QT movies for scoring. I was impressed with Apple's Music for Video template, the way the arrange window looks, the environments, the screen sets. I have made a very extensive template that has rewire and live drum recording setup etc. and I want this template to be optimized for score production. I am worried I will be missing key video functions if I simply just import video to my template.
Question # 2, I have a ruff cut video that's 1:15:00 (near complete), should I detect cuts before I start composing ? Bear with me just cutting my teeth ~

Question about file size when using "Export for Web"

Hi!
I created a .mov file and worked to get a great balance between file size and quality so that I could deliver it via the web and make it easier for end users to see the video on a slower connection.
My question: When I use "Export for Web," my .mov file is converted into a very large .m4v file--more than double the size of the original file. I know that this export option is to optimize the file for a wide variety of users/internet speeds. Am I correct in guessing that the end size is not an issue? I would post the .mov file instead, but I really like the option of embedding into a html page along with the "click to play" option.
Bottom line--is it better to post the smaller .mov file that i originally started with or to go ahead and link to the bigger .m4v file that was created with the "Export for Web" option?

"Export for Web" is a feature of QuickTime Pro and it makes 4 files and the html page code for easy copy/paste Web page editing.
The very first file is called a "reference movie" and it links to the other 3 files (56kbps, 900kbps and 1.5Mbps). It, and the page code, "read" the connection speed of the viewing hardware and "serve up" the correct file based on that connection speed.
In nearly all cases the "Desktop" version would still be smaller in file size than the original source. The times the file would "increase" in file size would be when an already compressed was used as the source file. You can find out more about your source file by opening it in QuickTime Player and viewing the Movie Inspector window information.
There are dozens of other html "tricks" that could be used if your source file is already compressed but you want a different display size:
Page code to show "aspect" or scale="tofit". This code allows values "outside" of those found in the actual QuickTime file be used for the Web page display. A 320X240 QuickTime .mov file looks pretty good at double size (640X480) but the file size would still be that of the source file.
"Poster Movie" is another html trick that loads the Web based file directly in the QuickTime Player application (bypassing Web page layout restrictions). These files are also known as "Presentation Movies".
Another method is the QuickTime Media Link file (.qtl). These are simple text based files that are used as a "direct link". These use simple XML (Extensible Markup Language) and are easily created in any text editing application. The simple syntax has amazing control over a simple QuickTime .mov file. You can launch (and quit) the QuickTime Player, display at other dimensions and even embed "links" inside the display.

A QuickTime Media Link file. A tiny file should download to the viewing machine, launch QuickTime Player, present the movie and it even includes a "link" to my Web page.
Edit: It appears you must now double click the .qtl download to launch QuickTime.

Edit standard tempalte for web reporting

Hi BW-experts,
is it possible to edit the standard web template for web analysis (0ANALYSIS_PATTERN)? The web application designer was not able to do so and I'm missing the function download/upload from/to server in new WAD. With BW 3.x one could change 0QUERY_TEMPLATE to do adjustments. Is there a similiar funtion hidden somewhere or is it sonehow else posiible to edit 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN?

Hi Leo,
the new Web Application Designer should be able to edit the Web Template. You can directly open the Web Template in the new WAD do your changes and save the Web Template under a new name.
Which error are you getting in the Web Application Designer? Some error messages like query does not exist ,.. can be ignored.

Embed Reference Movie in Web Page

Hi, I exported several versions of my movie out of QuickTime Pro using the "Export for Web" feature. I used the default options. I read the instructional file for embedding the result in a web page. I made a very simple web page and loaded all to the same folder on my web site. When I try to play the movie the poster frame image shows and when I click 'play' the QuickTime logo appears, but then a question mark is displayed over the QuickTime log. Clearly something is not right. Here is the web page:

All are residing in the folder with the reference movie and were not renamed. I noticed in the instructions there is a comment of including the <style> and <script> tags in the <head> of the page so that it validates as XHTML. I copied and pasted the <script> code, but I am not using any <style> tags. I wondered if that is contributing to the issue. Thanks again for the help.

According to your post, my understanding is that you want to change the content search web part property.
To change the web part property, we can override the GetToolParts method and return a CustomPropertyToolPart object along with the base toolparts.

Reference movies for earlier versions of QT

Hi, I'm doing an national intranet project behind a fire wall and have encoded my video content with the H264 codec. I then saved as a self contained movie and then from that saved as a reference movie, to which i point by embedding in a web page. It looks great, and loads (fast start) quite quickly, even in the lowest bandwidth offices.
The problem is this only works with QT 7 and many people in our org still have version 6. They also do not have admin access to their machines and therefore cannot update.
So I recompressed another version with the sorenson codec, and it's not too bad (although nowhere near as nice as the H264). I then tried to make a reference movie with the MakeRefMovie app, hoping that i can detect the user's version of QT and seamlessly deliver appropriate content depending on the user's QT version. But the sorenson version was not recognised by QT 6 via the reference movie. (although it plays just fine when i point directly to the self contained movie, or save that as a ref movie... but then the version 7 users would have to see an inferiour quality movie...)
Is the MakeRefMovie app the only way to do this ? Can i not specify the movies i want to refer to in QT pro 7 ? Any idea's as to why my first attempt with MakeRefMovie didnt work ?
Are reference movies that point to multiple movie versions intended for streaming only ?
Is there a way to upgrade the browser plugin without having to download and install the player?

This was discontinuted in CS5 howerver you could migrate that plugin to CS5. I don`t know if you can do this with CS6.
To my knowledge they only provided a revised Contact sheet II script for CS6. In my opinion a very bad idea because they should have put all efforts and resources to enhance the Output Module PDF contact sheet that has far more options.
Still not using web galleries but the goal for web gallery was also to use this in the Adobe Output Module, maybe that provides you the options you want?
