Template pictures

I finally published my site using iweb. On 2 of my pages I used the photo template to load in pictures of my paintings. People who have looked at my site tell me that the images in the template load first and then my pictures. I noticed that myself and cannot get rid of the template images. Is there a way? or should I just start again using a blank page. The site is

Welcome to the discussions, Patricia.
It looks like you manually positioned your pictures in front of the template ones, is that correct? Normally, when you drop a photo in there the layout probably becomes more rigid than you'd like, so did you just cover those pictures over with your own?
When you're using the "Photo" template, you have to drop pictures into that blue highlighted area or the placeholders will stay. You you might want to try using the "Blank" template, copy the layout from this page to that "Blank" page then adjust where needed.
Another option would be to drop a transparent image in between your pictures (so that you see the blue area highlighted) so that there IS an image there to prevent the placeholders from showing up, but since its transparent, no one will see it and you won't have to redo the entire page.

Hold down "option" and click the link to download that image to your hard drive so you can then drag it into iWeb.

Templates link to template folder

hi. I not used to using dreamweaver. I would MUCH rather
write html by hand. but my boss uses DreamWeaver and I am trying to
update a template that he made.
so he created a "site" in dreamweaver so it put all his
files in its own structure and all. but when I update the template
in the template folder and update the pages using the template all
the links and images are linked to the template folder.
It would look like "<a
href="Template/pictures/pic.jpg">" when I just want it to say
"pictures/pic.jpg" but in the template the file is linked properly.
and I can't get DW to look outside of the template folder for
templates.
anyone know how to fix it so that it won't change the links
to look in the folder

I am a little unclear on your post, but I think that if you
reference your template's links to the exact directory the images
are located, the links remain relative wherever the file using the
template is located. I could just be telling you something that
you're already doing....sorry if I am.
I've never seen this as an issue in DW before (are you using
MX, MX 04, or 8?)...
DW won't find Templates outside of the /Templates
folder.

Editing a Flash template

I have a Flash website template I bought online. I'm trying to edit the template within Flash, and I'm getting nowhere. I'm an intermediate level photoshop user, but new to Flash. I've spent the entire day trying to find useful information on the web, on You Tube, and here, to no avail.
My problem is this: none of the tutorials I've found seem to apply to my template. I'm unable to change any elements within it, though I seem to have a perfectly good .fla file with plenty of library levels. I just can't get anything I've found in tutorials to work.
I did quite a bit of photoshop editing on the main web site .psd file, and that looks fine. I've replaced the template picture and name with my own. But I've no idea how to get the template to use those files (renaming them according to the file given with the template does no good). Also, I'm not sure that replacing the template versions with my own in photoshop will translate to all the movie effects in Flash. And I can't find any info about this.
Can anyone direct where to go to get help? I've spent hours over several days trying to figure it out, and I'm getting nowhere. When I try to send an email to the site where I bought the template, it tells me that the contact information I'm using is no longer valid.
Adobe shuttled me around their phone system for several hours while we figured out a problem with my accout, after which they told me no one was available to help me because of the holiday schedule.

When I try to submit a ticket to the help system of the tech support for the template (which I had done some time ago, successfully), it no longer recognizes my email or previous registration. There are so many different ways your template could be designed that short of hiring someone to do it for you, there really isn't much anyone can do except to suggest what to try for individual/specific problems. For the same reason, I doubt you will find tutorials that explain how to edit a template. I doubt anyone at Adobe is going to try to assist you in editing your template or learning how to use Flash.
The first bit of advice, when you are working with files you acquire, always save an original just in case.
If you want to substitute one image for another, naming things similarly won't do anything for you. While I'm assuming something in saying this -> the first thing you need to do is import the new image file into your Flash library (select File -> Import -> to Library).
If the old image is sitting directly on the stage such that you can see it there, then need to see if it is contained in some form of symbol (a graphic or movieclip symbol in the library), because you need to open that symbol and replace it inside that symbol. If it is, then you need to doubleclick to open that symbol for editing--and you may find it is buried inside yet another symbol (or more). Generally, as long as you see a blue line around it when you select it, it is still inside a symbol so you need to keep doubleclicking until you get to the image. When you select it and see a wider gray border around it, then you are face to face with the raw inage and that is when you would want to drag your new image on top of the old one and delete/remove the old one.
If that original image is inside a symbol, then you should also be able to find that symbol in the library instead of doubleclicking your way thru to it, but either approach will get you to the same place.
If you do not see that image when you open the fla, it may be intriduced later on down the timeline. If you can not find that old image anywhere in the file, it could possibly be loaded using actionscript code, though it is usually less likely to be the case for a template.

Picture book different than iPhoto?

Hi,
I am a recent uupgrader from iPhoto to Aperature. I have been making books for years using the template "Picture Books" from iphoto. I can find the "Picture Book" selection in Aperature but it is not the same template that is in iPhoto where I can choose photos from 1 to 16 on a page in different arrangements.
Any advice?

Try the "Modern Lines" theme, this will let you put up to 16 pictures on one page, Stockbook up to eight.

P.S. If all fails, you can create a custom layout (Use the "Edit Layout" button), and add additional photos boxes to a page. You can save your custom layout.

Bug: Can't view photos in a slide when Exporting to PDF viewing files on XP

Hi,
I'm completely new to the discussion forum.
So hope this hasn't been covered, but the bug is there none the less.
When Exporting a Keynote 09 slide or slides that use some of the
new Layout themes(Kyoto style etc), nothing shows up when the
PDF is opened on Windows XP machines.
I have tried it on several machines at work and at schools,
and cant get photos or text to show up.
This never happened in 08, as i often have to use PDF to do presentations
at schools that dont have powerpoint no their pcs. PDF exporting
is really important in my daily work with keynote.
I really hope there is a fix or that Apple can release a fix
for this bug, as I would love to use the new layout themes
in presenting.
Strangely older themes have no problem opening and show all text and
photos as they should when exported using keynote 09 to pdf...
so i assume its an issue with the newer themes only ;(

Ok ill try and explain more.
1) I used to the Export feature (now I used SHARE > Export > choose PDF > save to desktop... view it.. its all good)
2) I then save the file onto a flash drive and put in a XP OS run PC
3) The slide background only shows up.. i.e. no content just the template itself
4) This only happens to the newer templates.
5) This happens when dragging a picture into the preset template picture boxes,
the picture just doesnt show up on the pc
6) havent checked file sizes, because i could do this process on keynote 08.. so i assumed its a BUG and not the fault of mine
7) Most importantly, i can do the same process and it works with the keynote 08
backgrounds and themes within 09.. but i cant get my PDFs on an XP to show when using the newer themes... just shows blank themes.. even for Kyoto theme, the tea pot picture isnt there.. its just the background
i am thinking of taking my mac into a mac store,
but im almost certain this is a bug.
to view the PDF on both my macbook and on XP i just double click
whats on the desktop and it usually shows.. but since buying 09,
as i said before, i can only get this to work for slides that use
the old 2008 keynote templates ;( ;(
i have not tried exporting using the print feature.. i will give that a shot today. but its so wierd that it shows up for some templates and not for others.

Does anyone know how to make custom date formats?

Hi,
In lightroom 4 I found a really useful tip where you can alter the file that controls how teh date format part of the import dialogue works - and more importantly it allows you to choose teh folder locations too, so when I import from another camera I can have the folder structure how I like.
The annoying thing is that I know its there and it will just be a case of copying the file I made to the right location.

For anyone else looking for this its a file called: TranslatedStrings.txt
This should go in: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5\Resources\en
You may need to make the en folder (and the file for that matter I forget)
The formatting I used was this:

USB SNAP + colour pattern matching ( IMAQ)

I am new to LAbView and currently I am working on colour pattern matching with USB snap. My problem is this program keep prompt me on the IMAQ Learn Colour Pattern. I need someone to help me solve that problem.
Another question is 'Are colour pattern matching require us to save and load file before learn a template?'

Hello Chee Hou,
Have you tried to run the example to do color pattern matching?
From the example, you do need to have a template picture ready when you are using the colour pattern matching.
You need to Learn Colour Pattern and then load the pattern to do color pattern matching.

Problems with OwnerGroupTool in Finder.app

(I trimmed the list a little, mostly internal folders, to shorten my post).
Verify Disk comes up OK.
Then I ran Repair Permissions on my Backup HD (internal) which I'm using for time machine. It ran for hours, bringing up :
"Incorrect owner flag. Is 0x2, should be 0x0" for what must be nearly every file.
Does this have to do with accounts, or what? Diskwarrior doesn't do anything about it, even when I run the file check. Since I'm running 10.5.5, the Repair Permissions in DW is disabled as it uses the Utility from 10.4.
I don't have the 10.5 disk, so I can't reinstall. Any ideas?

Installing Iphoto 11 and an External Drive?

I have a question regarding the installation of iphoto 11 on an external drive.
Here's some background:
- I have just purchased a new imac which was pre installed with Osx Lion and ilife 11
- My old machine was a G5 running leopard and ilife 09
- I had a time machine backup on an external drive from my old G5
- I installed a Pagasus RAID connected to the imac via thunderbolt
- I purchased OSx Lion from the apps store and installed it on the external RAID and set this RAID as my startup disk. So now my internal HD is just dormant and I'm running everything from RAID.
- During the Lion install I used restore assistant to restore by user and apps folders from my TM backup of the G5 to the new Lion on the RAID
- I now had a copy of iphoto 09 on the new RAID running under OSX Lion. It works fine
However the problem happens when I try to upgrade ilife. I don't have a problem with buying a new copy, but obviously the preference would be to copy ilife 11 from the internal drive of the imac to the RAID. Incidentally the internal imac drive is now sitting dormant and is not used.
I tried dragging iphoto 11 over to the RAID and superimposing it on ilife 09. But all it did was copy thousands of template pictures from somewhere.
So I tried to buy a new copy of iphoto. The apps store is telling me that its installed and wont let me buy it! Nothing I did would convince it otherwise. I tried holding the options key down and click but it was no use.
I even saw an update for iphoto come along and when I clicked updater it installed the update on my internal drive.
How do I tell the apps store to ignore my internal drive and let me buy ilife 11 and install on the RAID?
Better still, is it possible to transfer the ilife 11 from my internal drive to my external RAID. After all, I did buy it as part of my new imac purchase!!

But the thing that i dont like about iphoto is the export tool looks a little quirky. Asking me if I want the size changed etc.
Nothing quirky about it at all. Bear with me:
There's a distinction to be made between files and the data they contain. The example I use is as follows: In my iTunes Library I have a file called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles.mp3'. So what is that, exactly? It's obviously not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. They wrote a tune and lyrics. They recorded it and what you have in the mp3 is a copy of that recording. The file is just a container for the copy of recording. That container is designed in a specific way attuned to the characteristics and requirements of the data. Hence, mp3.
So, the data is the recording, the file is the container, specially designed for that type of data.
Similarly, that Jpeg is not your photo, it's a container designed to hold that kind of data. And along with that data comes opportunities: Metadata, for a start. Exif and IPTC contain vast amounts of information - some it very basic, like the date and time the shot was taken - some of it quite complex, like a lot of details of the settings used in the camera.
When you import to iPhoto it stores the file and catalogues the data. It shows you the photo not the file icon. You can add data to the Photo - keywords, Descriptions, Places, Faces - and you can edit the shot - crop it, fix red eye. All of these operations are carried out on the Photograph not the file.
So, when you export you're not exporting the file you're exporting the Photograph. And iPhoto asks you what kind of container you want to use. It can be a tiff, png or jpeg, and, depending on which you choose, different options arise. In the case of Jpeg you can export the photo to a container that uses less compression than the one it was stored in before.
That's all that is.
And, of course, you can export the Original too - a byte by byte copy of what you brought in.
This distinction between the data and the file that contains it is a key element in all Photo Managers. Essentially they all work this way.
is there an upper limit on the number of photos/library size that iphoto can support?

Custom Fields for Content Search WebPart

I created a custom item display template to control the look of the data. I copied the template "Picture on left, 3 lines on right" and just rearranged the div and added my own styles.
I created a custom List for Company Information. The list consists these fields;
Title
Hyperlink
Main Paragraph
Image
Sub Paragraph
I can not map Main Paragraph and Sub Paragraph as they do not display in the drop down for mapping fields. I have crawled the database.
Please let me know if you have any ideas for getting those fields to show in the mapping.

For solving your issue, you can create Main Paragraph site column and Sub Paragraph site column. If you create a site column (not a list column), populate it with data, and run a full crawl SharePoint
will create a crawled property and a corresponding managed property.

Web Application Designer broadcast select Web Items

Hello all,
I have a request to use the broadcast only select web items, Chart/Analysis items only in a Web Application Designer Template. Is this possible? I've tried the option "Data Binding" Report [ITEM_REF] but that didn't work and brought everything in my Web Template in my PDF broadcast to Email. It seems to ignore the Data Binding and bring everything in the template, pictures, Charts, Analysis items. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to select only select web items to broadcast via PDF?

New blog entries

When setting up a new entry for a blog in iweb, is there anyway to not have the usual template pictures, graphics and text show up each time? I don't want to spend time tweaking it each time. I've looked throught the iweb help and can't find anything......

In iweb, open the blog you want to update; click on "Entries", right click on a previously edited entry and choose the "duplicate" option. It will duplicate the edited entry without the custom template images or text.

Pictures and text boxes in rtf template

Hi there,
are there any general rules for applying pictures and text boxes to rtf-templates?
As far as I have experienced, the text boxes are not shown when generating a report. Is it generally not possible to display text boxes? Are there any work arounds?

I am having issues placing digital pictures in master templates in FCP 6

Hello everyone, this is my first post but I have been using Mac's for some time now with basically no issues.
I have two major issues:
First off, I am trying to place digital pictures which are enormous in the master template drop boxes, when I do this it cuts off the top and bottom of the image but the image still looks clear. The pictures I am importing are 1200 x 1800 jpg files, and were shot with a Canon EOS 30D. What I did was take all the images I needed and used Motion Pictures from Toast Titanium 8 and made a slideshow which I then exported as a QuickTime movie. I didn't know how to encode it so I used the DV/DVCPRO - NTSC codec and the dimensions were set to 3240 x 2430 since I thought that should give me the best quality image right?
Anyway, after doing this I have imported this QuickTime movie into Final Cut Pro and then I cut it up and placed little clips into each drop box. This makes it so I can see the whole picture now, but it still is not as high quality as the original pictures.
So, I have tried many times to export this master template with the pictures in the drop boxes and the finished QuickTime file looks terrible. I have not changed anything in the settings and when I export the quicktime movie I keep all the settings the same.
What do I need to do to get this to look better? Any ideas?
The other thing is that I have noticed a big reduction in quality from when I have the unrendered master template with the digital images in the drop boxes to when it autorenders after I have been away from the computer since I am stressing from this.
I am trying to take these pictures of high school basketball players and use the master template to have all the players pics and names come flying on the screen before the game comes on.
Any ideas? Why is the quality so bad? Am I doing something wrong? I have searched throughout the forums and found little information for digital images being imported into master templates, and I do not know if I am using a lossy format or something?

Digital pictures are no different than any other still images, or movies, for that matter, as fas as Motion or FCP are concerned, they're just pixels.
Your image are way too big for video. Even if you're doing high def, you're scaling them down to fit many on the screen. Thye don't need to be an larger than, say, 1k on the long side.
You blew them up by a factor of 300% to get them out at 3240 x 2430 so now you've made all the pixels bigger than they used to be, you haven't added any pixels. Now you're biring that huge movie into FCVP and scaling it down by a factor of about 90%, wasting huge processing time and muscle and tons of disk space, totally wasted, and every scaling operation has introduced tons of artifacts.
Throw it all ways. Batch your photos through Photoshop to change them all into 1k jpegs and start over.
The templates are fun places to start but the mattes are (mostly) designed to crop and scale. so if you have images that are huge, they just get scaled to fit. You want to start with an image that requires the least amount of scaling.

If you have Pages you can create customs pages for your book as TD suggested. If you have Pages from iWork 09 or 11 this app will add 80 or so additional frames to those offered: Frames and Strokes Installer. Don't use it on the latest Pages version, however.
This tutorial shows how to create a custom page with the theme's background: iP11 - Creating a Custom Page, with the Theme's Background for an iPhoto Book. Once the page is complete to get it into iPhoto as a jpeg file follow these steps:
Here's how to get any file into iPhoto as a jpeg file:
1 - open the file in any application that will open it.
2 - type Command+P to start the print process.
3 - click on the PDF button and select "Save PDF to iPhoto".
NOTE: If you don't have any of those options go to Toad's Cellar and download these two files:
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Save PDF to iPhoto 300 DPI.workflow.zip
Unzip the files and place in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder and reboot.
4 - select either of the files above (300 dip is used for photos to be included in a book that will be ordered).
5 - in the window that comes up enter an album name or select an existing album and hit the Continue button.
That will create a 200 or 300 dpi jpeg file of the item being printed and import it into iPhoto. For books to be printed choose 300 dpi.
