Testing in ?? Browsers...

I've been testing my web pages in Firefox 3 and IE 5.2
browsers, assuming
that if it works with these two - It'll probably work on
nearly everything.
Some of the apps I'm using have problems with IE 5.2.
A trusted advisor tells me that hardly anyone use IE 5.2
anymore.
I've used IE 5.2 because that's the latest version of IE
that's available
for the Mac (PPC).
Survey:
What browsers (and version #) to you test your web pages
with.
I'm on an iMac (PPC) - OSX 10.4.11.
Thx
Dan H.
I was tempted to post this question on another forum but I
think the answers
here will help more people at my skill level.

If you're testing with IE5.2 Mac version, don't bother. It
was declared dead
quite a few years back. Microsoft not only no longer supports
it, they don't
even offer it as a download anymore. Microsoft itself tells
you to use
another Web browser, such as Safari.
Additionally, IE5.2 Mac version is absolutely nothing like
IE5, IE6, or IE7
for Windows. Each of those has its own peculiar quirks and
bugs -- many of
them, and they differ from version to version. You absolutely
*must* test
against IE7 Windows at the bare minimum. I still test against
IE6, but it's
becoming less important.
When you upgrade your Mac to an Intel one, you can install
Windows on it and
test in the actual IE/Windows browsers. Until then, you'll
either need to
have a PC with Windows or use something like

    Hi applecore_eater,
When Leopard came out, machines were shipping with Tiger for 3-5 months after it's release. So the fact that you bought a machine with Leopard still installed is not uncommon, especially considering we're not even a month into release. Matter of fact, I'd be surprised to see a lot of machines (unless CTO) that are coming with Snow Leopard.
The battery issue is not specific to Snow Leopard or the MacBook Air. I've deployed SL to about 15-20 MacBook Airs and all of them have been perfectly fine (batteries).

  • Rendering errors testing in browsers

I received an error in browser shots from this link
    http://www.seabostudio.com/DecisiveTechnologies/index.html
How do you test in multiple browsers?
I typically use http://browsershots.org/ but it takes over a half hour and then returns errors and doesn't draw.
Anyone using ie 7 to tell me how this renders?
    Thanks

  • Flash Crashes across all browsers and recent fatal errors

This problem has basicly been going on for years and my operating system has been resintalled a couple of times before but basicly the problem is that adobe flash player (and Microsoft Silverlight) would crash a browser (IE, Chrome, and Firefox) often. I have tried the fixes ive read about but they didnt seem to work so I just decided to put up with it until I began getting fatal errors. I had my hardware checked out and there are no problems with and all my drivers are up to date.
    Flash: 11.5.502.135
    Windows 7 (64-bit)
HD 5570 and HD 6870 (upgraded from one to the other but problem still occurs)
Like I said I usually try to put up with flash (and silverlight) crashing my browser but now they crash the browse so badly it forces a bugcheck (or blue screen of death). I have tried to reload my operating system, then updated my drivers, and then in clean boot mode I still get pretty nasty crashes. I think the problem is within one of my drivers but I cant pinpoint which driver is the culprit.

    re-install
I support a bunch of Mac users and one of them (10.5.7 MBP) ran into this same
problem last week with both Safari and Firefox crashing with the flash player
plugin. If I removed the Flash Player plugin and the .xpt file there was no
crashing but no flash either. I used a combination of different suggestions and
here's what finally worked (so far anyway):
Show package contents for Firefox/Contents/MacOS/components and Get Info
changing perms for read/write for everyone.
Re-installed shockwave plugin using the customized full install (this made no
sense to me since I had made no change to shockwave but as I was testing the
browsers I was prompted to install it, so I did)
    Repaired permissions
The version of the Flash Player plugin that ended up installed on this Mac is
10.0.12.36. I started off installing the newer and recommended 10.0.22.87
version but it didn't fix anything. I inadvertently went backwards as I moved
plugins in and out of the Library. I didn't want to change anything once it was
working so I left it at the older version. I hope this helps someone else.

  • Flash Plug-in Crashes across all browsers despite re-install

About a week ago, my MacBook's Firefox browser started crashing whenever I checked my hotmail or Youtube, failing to load the flash content in either a  banner add or the Youtube video, I uninstalled flash, and the problem went away, only now I am unable to visit youtube or access any flash content on the internet. The problem extends across browsers to Safari and despite reinstalling, trying to revert to an old flash player, even downloading the full trial version of Flash from this website on the suggestion of a tech support person from this site, I have been unsuccessful.  The browser crashes whenever it comes across any flash content.
    Can you help me?

    I left it at 10.0.12.36

  • Flash Player Plug-In broke across all browsers.  OSX

Ever since the last Flash update, it will no longer run in any browser.  It shows an error that the plug-in is broke.  Steps I have done:
    -Trashed all prefs
    -Uninstalled and reinstalled Flash Player
    -Repaired permissions
Nothing works.  I created a new User on his machine and it works in that account.  I don't want to just wipe out his account and move him to a new account.  I'm hoping there is something else I can do to fix the problem.
    Any ideas?

  • Adobe Air ServerSocket not Working the same on XP/Vista/7

I'm having a strange problems with an air socket server i've written.
I have an Air application written using Flash Builder 4.  It's basically a simple HTTP server.  It's purpose it to open a server on a specific port and serve files (both html and swf) out to a web browser.
When i run the air application on my desktop (windows 7, firefox 4.0b11, ie8, flash builder 4 compiled with flex sck 4.1.0) everything works correctly.  Whether i run the server through the Flash Builder debugger or actually do the full packaging and install as a standalone air app then run it using the Air Runtime like any user would.  I load up the server, punch in the address from anywhere and the page loads, and the requested swf displays correctly.  While the server is running on my desktop i've tested clients including Windows XP and Vista with IE8, HTC Evo4g Android phone, and the Playstation 3 browser.  From any tested client with the server running on my desktop all requests are handled correctly and pages/swfs load and display correctly.
The problem comes when i run the air app on another computer.  When i package it and install it on one of my two test systems (Windows XP and Windows Vista) things start to go wonky.  The Air app loads on the two test systems but when a client tries to use their web browser to request a page things don't display correctly.  The client can load the html file fine but the swf that it receives from the server does not display.  I can check the log on the status server and see the HTTP GET being processed, and the file sent.  However, the browser simply displays a blank box where the SWF should be.  With the server running on either of my two test boxes (XP and Vista) the same clients who can connect and display html and swf's delivered from the server experience this problem.
I think i've eliminated browser request as the problem from testing different browsers on different OS's on each of the test installations.  As best I can tell, the problem is with the server side of the app.  The server uses the SocketServer class to listen for a connection and then writes out the HTML headers and content to the socket manually, i'm not using any external libraries for writing to the socket.
here's the code for writing to the socket when a swf is requested.
         var content:ByteArray = new ByteArray();
         var stream:FileStream = new FileStream();
         stream.open(file, FileMode.READ);
         stream.readBytes(content);
         stream.close();
         socket.writeUTFBytes("HTTP/1.1 200 OK\n");
         socket.writeUTFBytes("Content-Type: application/x-shockwave-flash\r\n");
         socket.writeUTFBytes("Content-Length: " + content.length + "\r\n\r\n");
         socket.writeBytes(content);
I don't believe the problem is with the socket write since it works on my desktop but not when the server is running on another.  I'm wondering if the problem is with an external system dependancy.  Are there any external libraries, visual c++ runtimes, tcp/ip libraries that Air uses to fulfil requests to sockets on different operating systems/versions?  I've been searching around the web and browsing through adobe live docs for a few hours on this but can't seem to find a resolution anywhere.  If more detail is needed, please let me know.  Any help would be much appreciated.

I appreciate you taking the time to look at this.  Good to know I'm not completely crazy, that makes me feel a little better.
The 178774 is bytesLoaded()   and 1096810 is bytesTotal() as seen by the swf.
That's what i was experiencing.  The issue you're seeing with it running on vista of the swf apparently only loading 180k of the 1 meg is what i'm experiencing.  For me that  happens when the server side of things is running on my XP or Vista  machine.  On Win 7 it works fine.  Also, for mp3's it seems to only download the first couple seconds.  When i stream an mp3 from the server it only plays a couple of seconds and stops.
Not sure if the index.html file that it serves out is small enough that it gets it in one cycle but for larger files it closes out the socket before sending all the data.
If i get some free time tomorrow i'll see about getting an Ubuntu  virtual machine going and test it there as well.  I don't have access to  a mac to try it on OSX.

  • Iphone apps wont install or update - please help!

Hi. Hopefully someone can help me...
My iPhone 4s running iOS 6.1.3 wont let me install new apps or update existing apps. When i click on the button to buy a free or pay app the button changes to "install app". Then when i click on the install app button nothing happens ( no progress bar and no installation). After repeatedly clicking the install button the status changes to "install" as if it was installed...except it wasn't.
    So far i've tried:
    - logging out/in of iTunes account
    - rebooting phone
    - turning off / turning on phone
    - resetting all settings
    - deleting apps that required updating that wouldn't update
    - deleting ibooks which had a pending download
Tried these multiple times without success in resolving the issue. Both wifi and 3G connection is fine.
Anyone gone through the same thing and have any suggestions? Help would be very much appreciated. Thanks
    S

Hi, Use the Administrator account. Download the Uninstaller and SAVE it to your Desktop:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
Then download the Flash Player Installer for Firefox and SAVE it to your Desktop:
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe
Then downlad the Flash Player Installer for Internet Explorer and SAVE it to your Desktop:
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe
Be sure to read over the Uninstaller instructions for system tray, and Make sure you use the Administrator Account.
When you have that done, Close ALL browsers. Run the Uninstaller and when finished, Reboot(restart) your computer.
When fully rebooted, Reboot again (to clear all old files out)
Then Run the Firefox Installer, then Run the IE Installer and when finished, Reboot Once.
    Test both browsers here: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
Then Using IE, go to manage add ons (all add ons) and find Shockwave Flash Object and make sure it is Enabled.
Then Using FF, find the SWF vs 10.1.53.64 plug-in and make sure it is Enabled.
If you have any questions, just post.
    Thanks,
    eidnolb
Note: If you don't want Flash Player in IE, then ignore that link.
I would wait and Install Reader after a fix has been released.

  • Bridge CS5 gallery, placed in DW CS5 does not show when uploaded

My husband has a Halloween haunt. We are gearing up to promote this year's haunt (and our charity of choice this time), and I wanted to update the photos from last year. Admittedly, I am an experienced print designer, wanting to learn more about web design, so not a pro at this by any means.
I created 3 galleries via the automated Bridge CS5 export (saving each gallery to its own folder within the site folder), then placed each gallery's index file into an iframe div relevant to that year's photogallery (one web page for 2010, one for 2009, one for 2008) so I can keep the site's masthead and a link to go back to the main photos page. Everything works fine when I preview it (local) as well as test on browsers (local). However, when everything is uploaded to the hosting company server, there is a white box for each gallery. I am at a loss. Cannot figure this out, and we're almost into October!
URL for one of the gallery pages:  http://windyhillhaunt.com/photos2010/10gallery.html
URL to go in via the main photos page (select either 2010, 2009 or 2008):   http://windyhillhaunt.com/photos.html
Please help. I want this to work for my husband, but I also want to learn how to do this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Julie Fanning

I was never able to get it to work. Had all files from the root directory (all resources, images, css, etc) copied onto hosting company. Tried to alter the relative path (Kdn002), etc. Nothing worked other than local testing.
Finally downloaded jAlbum, used the same div and iFrame structure, and it worked! I may make some tweaks down the road, but it's working fine now.

    Thanks,
    Julie

  • Performance issues since upgrade

I am on a late 2011 MacBook Pro and am having severs performance issues since upgrading to Mavericks. I fear my issues may be related to company installed anti-virus (which I cannot remove), but I was hoping someone could look over my EtreCheck for other potential solutions.
One really odd issue I am having, which I cannot seem to find good information for on Google, is at least 4-5 times a day my Mac just stops. No beach ball, no anything, for about 1-5 minutes. Then it's fine. Maybe just me grasping at straws, but it seems related to a when webpage loads a bunch of images? I always use Safari btw, but testing other browsers, like Chrome & Firefox, it happens as well.
I have also removed TotalFinder and have noticed no improvement and still have the above issue.
    Thanks in advance!

  • How can I install virtualized mavericks on Mac? Parallels or VMWare?

I need to use safari(mac) to test my website, However safari is also my default browser.
It will cause some problems while debugging, because safari is also my default browser, I need to ignore a lot of non-development http requests/responses data.
Also, sometimes, I need to empty the cache to ensure I got a fresh installed safari to test, that would be very inconvenient if safari is my default browser.
Usually, I use Virtualbox to install Windows/Linux on my Mac to test different browsers.
For safari, I hope I can do it in similar way. That said, to have a virtualized Mac vm on my mac, so I can have an independent safari browser for test.
I don't want to spend a lot of time to investigate how to do it on Virtualbox, and I don't know if Virtualbox figure out a way to do it now or not.
It seems Parallels and VMWare provides easier way to install mac mavericks vm on mac.
for example, I can see this
    http://kb.parallels.com/118806
I am wondering if Apple suggests an official or easier way for developer to test safari. To buy Parallels or VMWare?

I've attempted to install Mavericks as a VM in BOTH.
Fusions was so "choppy" and slow, it was impossible to use, and it wouldn't run bigger than 1024X768, or go "Full Screen". Pretty useless with dual 1920X1080 monitors.
Parallels was slightly more manageable, but I still had performance and resolution problems. While I could go bigger than 1024X768, the resolutions it would allow were 1600X1200 and 1920X1400, with No "Full Screen" option available either. Those sizes left me unable to access my dock or the bottom 120 to 320 pixels of my desktop or any open window.
Installing was no problem. I used my 10.8 installer, and once I had the VM up & running, either the AppStore or a previously downloaded Mavericks installer will do.
Note: BOTH VMS were set up with 2 cores and 4Gb RAM so, it wasn't a matter of resources. Mavericks just doesn't perform that well as a VM yet. I'm pretty sure VMWare and Parallels need to make app updates to handle it better.
What design softwarte do you use?

  • A sudden loss of connectivity...

Since February of 2008 I have had my network configured to allow me to send large files from work to home via DAV, DAVS, SFTP, FTPS and FTP (I enjoy tinkering with my set up). About a month ago everything came to an abrupt end and I have not been able to get it up and unning again, so here I am, hoping there will be some insight from you. My set up is as follows:
I use a DynDns URL (epconnect.dyndns.org) which correctly resolves to 98.224.193.135 to keep connected. If you want to try to check the connecions I have a test folder set up for FTP for user: test / Password: 20test09 and a folder set up or DAV using directory: DAVTest / user: test / Password: 20test09. I will watch for activity on these folders and keep them open for a month or so.
COMPUTERS I USED AS SERVERS IN TESTS:
    Macintosh 01 - OS X 10.5.6 / Static IP 192.168.1.136 / PPC
    Macintosh 02 - OS X 10.5.6 / Static IP 192.168.1.137 / Intel
    ROUTERS I USED IN TESTS:
    Linksys WRT54G 01 V. 6 - Firmware V. 1.02.6
    Linksys WRT54G 02 V. 6 - Firmware V. 1.02.5
General network settings - Subnet 255.255.255.0 / Router address 192.168.1.1 / Apache 2.2.9 / httpd.conf file altered to allow WebDav / Web sharing enabled / File Sharing (FTP) enabled
All of the following tests were run both with and without the Macintosh firewall enabled, the results were the same in each case.
    Tested http://localhost on Macintosh (01 and 02) in browser * - CONNECTED
Tested IP http://192.168.1.(136 and 137) in browser * - CONNECTED
Tested IP http://98.224.193.135 in browser * - FAILED
Tested IP http://epconnect.dyndns.org in browser * - FAILED
Tested IP ftp://192.168.1.(136 and 137) in browser * - CONNECTED
Tested IP ftp://98.224.193.135 in browser * - FAILED
Tested IP ftp://epconnect.dyndns.org in browser * - FAILED
Tested FTP for 192.168.1.(136 and 137) in CyberDuck ** - CONNECTED
Tested FTP for 98.224.193.135 in CyberDuck ** - FAILED
Tested FTP for epconnect.dyndns.org in CyberDuck ** - FAILED
Tested DAV for 192.168.1.(136 and 137) in CyberDuck ** - CONNECTED
Tested DAV for 98.224.193.135 in CyberDuck ** - FAILED
Tested DAV for epconnect.dyndns.org in CyberDuck ** - FAILED
At one point, just to test my router port forwarding, I enabled DMZ and forwarded ALL ports to 192.168.1.136 and 192.168.1.137 respectively but there was no difference in the results from the individual port forwards.
The Ping tests run on 192.168.1.136, 192.168.1.137, 98.224.193.135, and epconnect.dyndns.org all connected with no packet loss BUT in one case I forgot and had the ports forwarded to the Mac that I had TURNED OFF but still received a PASS! ***? I am guessing that Ping is worthless as a test to see if the site is responding because of this.
I ran a port scan from the DynDns.com Open Port Tool and all of the ports returned as OPEN using both epconnect.dyndns.org and 98.224.193.135. However I used the Macintosh utility Network Tool and ran a port scan from 21 to 443 (the only ones I need) for both epconnect.dyndns.org and 98.224.193.135 and both of the tests timed out returning NO OPEN PORTS.
I reset the Comcast Cable Modem (Arris TM502G/CT) with the CAT5 cable, the power cord, and the coaxial cable disconnected by pressing and holding the reset button on the modem for 20 seconds, waiting for all of the lights to come back on, then reattaching the router (NO CHANGE).
In desperation I reinstalled OS X on Macintosh 01 from scratch and reconfigured all of my settings but I STILL cannot get epconnect.dyndns.org to connect to FTP, SFTP, FTPS, DAV, or DAVS. Not even my test homepage will come up in the browser.
The following is an excerpt from Comcast:
I understand you have questions about which ports are blocked on the
Comcast network. I have included the current list of blocked ports for
    you below:
    67
    68
    135
    137
    138
    139
    445
    512
    520
    1080
I am unsure what I could be missing. I spoke to Comcast a few minutes ago and they state again that they are not blocking th ports and there have been no changes in my service that could account or this. I also sent an email to DynDns.com and nothing is wrong on their end. I can't recall anything I changed on my Macs except for any recent upgrades from apple and I reset the routers back to factory spec and reentered all of the port routing by hand.
    * Tested in browsers IE 7 and Safari 4 with a Dell PC and Firefox 3 and Safari 4 on a Macintosh.
** Tested FTP and DAV connectivity with EngInSite DataFreeway 2 on the PC and Cyberduck 3 on the Macintosh.
    * I didn't bother testing FTPS or DAVS since the self signed certificate I use is for epconnect.dyndns.org and wont work on the local network.

    Bump.
    Any ideas?
This is a particular problem with users based in distant territories, e.g. South Africa. Our FMS is based in the UK.
I would imagine the number of hops in the connection is a big factor in this. Are there recommended FMS settings for this kind of scenario?

  • Will there be a fix for Blackboard any time soon?

blackboard is an already touchy program and while I don't know what the problems are with the new update and the board but to have our Tech Support post a Notice every time you log in to NOT update to the new versions of firefox or IE within hours of the release means its pretty bad. I've asked ff to stop asking me to update but every time I open up the program it ask anyway so now I'm getting to the point where I'm anxious for a fix to stop this problem and some others as well.
Read that there's not a time line for the fix but is it going to be soon?

Internet Explorer 9 & Firefox 4 browsers are not compatible with Maricopa's Blackboard and may cause problems when trying to submit exams, tests and assignments. '''bold text'''

Blackboard / WebCT is very careful about their programs being compatible with popular web browsers, they test which browsers work with specific versions of their programs. One thing they never seem to do is to make changes to their programs or update them during a school term ''(IE9 and Firefox 4 were both released in April - like mid-term)''. It seems to me that all changes to their programs are done during June, July, and August, and are then rolled out for the fall term. Whatever they "certify" as being compatible is then a "well seasoned" browser, with few surprises for them.
IMO, a smart way to operate. ''Plus, how you you "collect" for the updates when a contract already exists for the term or school year?''

Look under Supported Browsers for the version of Firefox that is supported for the version of Vista or Campus Edition your school uses. That information should be posted at the bottom of most Blackboard / WebCT pages.
If you just "gotta have" the latest version of Firefox, you should install the proper version of Portable Firefox for your Blackboard / WebCT version used at your school. Portable Firefox will install completely into its' own folder set in Program Files and it won't affect or interact with the regular Firefox installation, like having two different "regular" version would.

Scroll down that page for Legacy Versions. Just install it to your hard drive or a USB key.

  • How to stop Nvidia driver errors on Bootcamp

Hi, I'm using a MacBook Pro mid 2010 with a Nvidia Drive fully updated on a Windows 8.1 x64 and it is constantly going black specially when using web browsers. If someone had the same problem and found a practical solution please help.

If it is a 15" model, than it should have two GPUs. Use the internal display and download gfxCardStatus. Ensure your are using the Intel GPU and test your browsers. If the screen issues are resolved, then nVidia (or driver) is suspect, otherwise I suspect the logic board.
You can also check the Mac Using Apple Hardware Test - Apple Support . It may not find all issues.

  • Need help from anyone who can help, or my uncle, who ever sees this first...

I have a small problem, ever since I updated my adobe flash, every single time I load my web browser. Be it IE or Firefox or hell even Netzero's crap wb, it crashes the page I tried to open up.
I tried to find the flashplayer that was out prior to 10.2(whatever) but I can't seem to find it and am always redirected right to the newest one that has just come out.
I am at my wits end with this thing please someone help me out.
By the way, Uncle Jim Doubek, this is Tony's son ( your brother in Tennessee ) Andrew Doubek, asking for help...
    ~mom made me put that~

Thanks, You don't trust IE, but you use Windows? Ok:-)
Go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash  Open the Flash folder and post back all files listed. The NPSWF files you will need to Right click on and Open, then click on Properties to obtain the Version numbers.
Then using IE, go to Tools, Manage addons and find Shockwave Flash Object, make sure it's Installed, Enabled and the same version of Flash Player that you have Installed. Let me know.
Using FF, go to all plugins and make sure Shockwave Flash plugin is Installed and Enabled. Let me know.
Test both browsers here and you should see the Flash Player logo animation(RED F spin)
    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ Let me know.
Also the version of Flash Player will be displayed.
If you use adblock or adblock plus or any popup blocking software you may want to disable them since they block Flash Content.
Any Virus issues? If so which program removed them?
Go to this site and see if you have a Kill-bit set. Just look to see if that Key is there in Post#1. If it is, then in Post#4 at the bottom is the solution needed.

Please be sure to follow the above and address my questions.
    Thanks,

  • Flash Player works in Safari but not Internet Explorer 9

I've installed Flash Player 10.3 and it works in Safari but not Internet Explorer 9. When I look in Manage Add-Ins I see Flash Shockwave but not Flash Player. My operating system is Windows Vista Ultimate (32bit). Safari is 5.0.5 and IE 9 is 9.0.8112.16421. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Flash Player and uninstalling Norton 360. Nothing has worked so far. Can you help?

Thank you for your reply. Shockwave is loaded and enabled.
The files in flash directory are: a folder called FlashPlayerTrust: file, flash10q.ocx: file, FlashInstall.log; file, FlashUtil10q_ActiveX.dll; file, FlashUtil10q_ActiveX.exe, file, install.log.
    There is no file: NPSWF32.dll.
When I test the browsers I get no spinning logo in either Safari or IE9. Safari says: missing plug-in, where I think the logo should be. IE-9 says nothing at the same location.
    Thanks.
