Text Caption Types

Does anyone know of any way I can change the Text Caption
Types to a type used with Captivate 2? I really like the yellow two
options that I used in my previous demos and this is not an option
in Captiate 3. If I add to a previous demo- I have to individually
update text caption to maintain the same look and feel.
Thanks

Hi julesfischy
Sorry that wasn't helpful. Here's the deal. When Adobe
created Captivate 3, they relocated some of the older captions to a
folder named "More". So they are still there if you know where to
look. If you want your older types to automatically appear in the
list to choose from, you may locate them behind the scenes and copy
them from the "More" folder to where Captivate will find them. The
normal location is below:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 3\Gallery\Captions
Or... if it's just a one time shot, you may choose instead to
simply choose the type by clicking the Caption Type drop-down,
scrolling to the bottom where it says <Custom>, and when you
click <Custom> a dialog opens with the More folder visible.
Hopefully you will find this more helpful.

  • Text Caption Bubble with Bottom, Right-hand "Tail"

    Hello,
There have been a number of times when using a Text Caption
bubble with a "tail" (not sure what that's really called) that
sticks out in the bottom right corner of the bubble. I can resize
my text to be able to use a different bubble that is available in
Captivate, but it would just be really nice if there were this
bubble in the set of available bubbles. Does anyone know if one
exists? And how can I add it to the set of choices for
    adding/editing a text caption?
    Thanks in advance!!
    Teresa

    Hi again
Ohhhhhkay. I see a few possibilities.
    1. You may create your own Caption types. This is described
in the Captivate help file as well as on fellow Adobe Community
    Expert Paul Dewhurst's site.
    Click
    here to read Paul's info
    2. You could choose another caption style and use it. But I'm
guessing that's probably not an attractive option.
    3. You could create or find and use just an image that points
where you want. Then cover it with the caption so that it appears
the image is starting from the caption.
    4. You could choose another caption style that has the
Callout Pointers. Then simply insert the caption with the pointer
of your choice in the direction of your choosing. Then place that
behind the other caption. The consolidated result would be the
appearance of your existing caption and the one below.
Actually, #4 was what I was about to suggest for a caption
type that uses callout pointers. Sometimes you have a need to
arbitrarily place the callout pointer. In this case, you do as I
suggested above. Insert a caption with the pointer where you want
it, then cover it with a caption using no callout pointer. You are
then free to position the callout pointer exactly where you want it
    to appear.
    Hopefully something here helps... Rick

  • Text Caption Dialog window is black-help!

For some reason, the text caption dialog box window is black.
It did not used to be black, but somehow decided it wanted to be
black now. This makes is incredibly difficult to view the black
text as I attempt to edit it.
Anyone else have this problem? This is in the text caption
dialog box, in the area where you can type text. My area is black
and I cannot figure out how to change that. The text caption is
transparent and appears in captivate just fine, it's just a pain to
    try to edit.
    Thanks in advance,
    Emily

Hi Emily and welcome to the forum
I'm not sure I've ever sorted exactly what "sets" the
background color presented in the Caption editor for a transparent
caption. One thought that comes to mind is to either:
    1. Choose a different text caption style, edit the text as
desired, then switch to the transparent style
    or
    2. Edit the text inside something like Windows Notepad, then
    paste into the Caption editor
Hopefully one of these suggestions will work for you.

  • Is it possible to change the formatting of all text captions in a project?

    Hi there.
I'm wanting to change the following formatting options on all text captions in my projects:
    Caption type
    Font
    Font size
    Font colour
    Spacing
Is there any way of changing these for all text captions, or do I have to change them individually? I've tried changing the options in the object style manager, but I think that only works for when you're creating a new text caption, not for existing ones.
    I'm using Captivate 7.
    Thanks.

It depends: are you using the default style for Text Captions? In that case you can change the default style in the Object Style Manager and have it applied to all Captions.
Or you can change one text caption, and in its Properties panel choose the option 'Save Changes to existing style' from the menu top right (see screenshot). Both methods will work if you didn't override the default Caption Style for those captions. Beware: Quizzing objects can use another style.

  • Why aren't my text captions being read by JAWS 14.0?

    Hey All,
I need some help. I'm running Captivate 7 and I'm trying to make it accessible, specifically to JAWS 14.0. I've done some research and it seems as if I've followed all the steps necessary to achieve this, but when I view my project none of my images/text captions are being read.
To save some time here is what I've done so far:
Under File > Publish Settings > Publish Settings I've checked the Enable Accessibility box.
Under File > Project Info  I've provided a Project Name and Project Description.
I've added accessibility text to each slide (Only seems to work when I publish to HTML 5).
While a text caption is selected I've chosen the Accessibility button in the Properties panel and gave it a name and description.
I've done the previous step with images and buttons as well.
The problem is that the text captions and images are not being read by JAWS 14.0, and don't seem to be part of the tab order. It seems like they are not even there as far as JAWS is concerned. Am I missing a step, or does Captivate not support this type of accessibility?
"Please help me Adobe Community, you're my only hope."
    Thanks a bunch.

    Hello,
Text captions are static elements and hence they are not tabbable + not listed in TAB order Dialog.
For any static element (like Text captions, images, etc.), user need to use arrow keys to read them (when JAWS is used as screen reader)
All the interactive elements (like Buttons, Smartshapes as buttons), are tabbable and are listed in TabOrder Dialog.
Alternaltively, If you want your text items to be tabbable, you can use the Smartshape as Buttons.
    Thanks,

  • Delayed text captions not appearing (except in Preview "Play this slide")

Can anyone explain why my delayed text captions are not appearing in any mode BUT Preview/Play this slide. When I do that type of preview, the text captions show up exactly when I set them (starting at 27s - and are set to display for 'rest of slide').
There are eight delayed text captions and none of them show up with I preview the Project, From this slide, or Publish.
The visible flag is on, time is "rest of slide", appear after 27s, effect is not relevant, and it is not a layers issue.
    Thank you

    Hi Shawn
Belive it or not, I wasn't being sarcastic. Only Buttons, Click Boxes or Text Entry Boxes will pause playback of a slide. So I figured if I asked how many you had, you would scrutinize the slide and perhaps discover one you had missed.
Play this slide doesn't behave like the other preview. This doesn't mean it's bad, just different. You simply have to understand that the only real reason for using that type of preview is to achieve a rough representation of timing elements. When will they appear and disappear. As you have discovered, you may not interact with them. You may only watch them. It's a bit like watching something through a window. You cannot reach through it and touch anything.

  • Change caption type

    I'm a captivate-user-in-training.
My settings created text captions, hint (rollover) captions,
and failure captions when I recorded my training video, which was
ok. I was instructed to delete the text captions, but keep the hint
captions. Hint captions seem to be the same thing as rollover
captions, and I don't want them to display on a rollover - I want
them on the slide most of the time. Is there a way to change the
type of caption without having to create all new ones? Even better,
is there a way to change the type of all the captions at once?
Caption properties don't seem to offer that option, but I'm
    hoping maybe it's somewhere I haven't looked.

    Hi klhdv
Caption types fall into a few different categories.
    * Standard Text Captions
    * Feedback Captions
    * Rollover Captions
While you should be able to change all of one category type
to another type within the same category, you cannot change them
across multiple categories. For example, if you are using Adobe
Blue for a Standard Text Caption and you want ALL your Standard
Text Captions to be Adobe Blue, you could use the "Apply to all"
feature you see on the Caption dialog to accomplish it. But if you
also wanted to change all "Success" captions to be Adobe Blue, you
would have to edit one of the Success captions, make the change,
then use the Apply to all feature.
Yeah, I know the Apply to all feature has an area where it
says "All caption types", but in my experience, it doesn't work
most of the time for this.
Here is the difference between a Hint caption and a simple
rollover caption. A Hint caption is associated with a Button, Click
Box, or Text Entry Box object. It appears when mousing over these
objects to provide a "hint" that something can be done. With a
standard typical Rollover Caption, you simply define an area where
you want the user to mouse over and have the caption appear when
mousing over the area. The big difference here is that with the
former objects, they are interactive. The user normally has to do
something with them. Click or type text. And with the latter, they
    simply mouse over and read.
One more bit on changing the Caption type. There is no
facility I'm aware of that you may use inside Captivate to perhaps
right-click a feedback caption and choose to convert it to a
standard Text Caption or a Rollover Caption.
Hopefully this was helpful to you... Rick

  • Why Captivate themes do not support text caption customization?

When I am using adobe captivate6 theme for one of my project, The published file is not the same as the preview one.
Please let me know the reasons.. and also let me know are there any other methods to be followed...?

    Hello there,
Themes in Captivate will over ride all the previous customization applied to text captions.
If you want a different style other than that theme's style, you can create your own style and apply that to all and make that as the default for that theme (under properties of text caption).
You can also customize other text captions individually on the slide level.
and please tell have you published the project locally on your system, and what is the type of the published project?
and which version of captivate is it?
    Thanks.

  • Text Caption options not applied

    Hi,
I'm trying to add a text caption with a transparent style.
however when I try to modify font, font size, or color no change is
being applied. If I switch to the Adobe Blue caption style I can
modify color, but not font size. Any idea why this is
    happening?

    Hi there
I happened across a weird issue just last night that was resolved by choosing a different ActionScript version. I'm wondering if you can try this to see if there is a change in behavior.
Click Edit > Preferences > Project > Publish Settings and whatever it's set to AS2 or AS3, try the other option and see if it changes your outcome.

  • Is it possible to convert text captions to Smart Shapes?

    Hello,
I have a collegue that is using Cp 5 to record software simulations which then need to be brought into Cp6. The problem is that our standards (for software simulations) employ Smart Shape call outs (not the Cp 5.5 and earlier text captions).
Is it possible to convert these text captions into our themed Smart Shapes either automatically inside Captivate 6 or by modifying the content within the CPTx file?
    Thank you,
    Shawn

    Hello Lilybiri,
As always you are awesome! :-)
    >I don't believe an automatic switch will be possible, because smart shapes are totally different objects.
I understand because there are a huge variety of shapes in either format. But I suspect that it should be easy to convert a text caption from any style to one specified smart shape style.
Actually, I am asking before the simulations get started. So nothing has been done yet. I am unsure what you are suggesting I should do in the preferences under Cp 5.5. Are you suggesting that there is a way to convert 'some format' of text callouts, in a Cp5.5 demonstration simulation, to Smart Shapes in Cp6?
    >but since you already have created the simulations, it has to be done manually. Hoping for you that
    >someone has a bright idea, but I do not see one immediately.
For anyone else in this situation, it would be handy to have a solution (rather than painstakingly convert each manually).
I am wondering if this might be a relatively easy search/replace within one of the xml files within the CPTx file. I'm going to look at this tonight.
    Thanks for your assist.

  • Editing text captions changes the Duration setting

    HI,
I edited a text caption in the Text Caption dialog and closed
it with the OK button. The duration (Text Caption dialog >
Options tab > Timing > Display for:) changed although I
didn't change it. Has anyone had this problem? I looked at the help

    Thanks,

    Hi Rick,
I sent my reply, but it looks that it didin't get sent, so
I'm writng this again. Thank you so much for your quick response!!
I unchecked Calculate Caption Timing, and the problem is resolved.
    You're great! Thanks so much

  • Text Caption Box not appearing

HI All / Captivate 4 Experts:
I recently upgraded from Captivate 3 to 4.  My text caption box is not appearing on certain slides.  I do have a click box on them, however when I removed the click box and played the next 5 slides...the text caption box did not appear.
The slides that I have are meant for the user to click on certain areas with the instructions given to them on what and where to click.
    Any ideas???
    PLEASE HELP!!  Thanks!

  • Ive deleted contacts from my contacts list but they still pop up when i go to text and type in the name of a current contact. .  How can i delete them off my phones memory for good?

Ive deleted contacts from my contacts list but they still pop up when i go to text and type in the name of a current contact. .  How can i delete them off my phones memory for good? iPhone 4S

At the present time, the only way to clear that is to restore the phone as new.  Perhaps a future iOS update will give us the option to clear that cache.

  • Text Caption will not pop up and go away.  It is there the whole slide

I have a Text Caption box that I am wanting to pop up and
give a Hint on how to answer a question slide and then go away
    after a few seconds.
I have this in the Options tab for it:
Display for: specific time: 2.2 seconds
    Appear after: .3 seconds
    Effect: Fade in and out
In: .4 seconds Out: .5 seconds

    Welcome to our community
Is this a standard Text Caption and you are inserting it on a
Question Slide? If so, perhaps the buttons or overall construction
of the Question Slide are pausing it so the caption is simply
appearing to remain on the slide the entire time.
If you are unable to futz with the timing to get the result
you want, you might try creating a small Captivate project that
only has the caption fading into view briefly, then fading out.
Publish that as a SWF and insert it on your question slide.

  • Animating Pictures or Text Captions

    Hi Guys
Is there any way of getting more animation of Text Captions or pictures, other than simply fading them in?  I know there is the option of setting up and using the 'Text Animations' but I find the text formatting options very limited.  Notwithstanding this text issue, what about having pictures entering with a little more pizazz?
Any help would be most appreciated and if anyone from Captivate Development are reading and this isn't possible - can we have it for the future... including making the Text Animations feature more versatile with respect to text formatting - or am I just missing something here?
    Many thanks in advance
    Kind regards
    Kevin

    Hi there
Captivate can seem limiting at times. But mostly, I think it's more of a "Can't see the forest for all the darn trees in the stupid way!" issue.
Perhaps if you could articulate exactly how you would like to "jazz it up", we might suggest alternatives or using other features to help.
What you described seems to be a bit on the "fuzzy nebulous" end of the spectrum.
    Cheers... Rick
