Text file generator gets out of sync!

Has anyone any experience of this behaviour in the text file generator in Motion......
Basically the first entry in the list is only displayed for half the time of the other entries!
This means that any repeat keyframes that I apply (even if I apply from the second entry in) get out of sync with the text display.
There must be a workaround for this or maybe I am missing something and this is desired behaviour.
Can anyone help?

When you mentioned keyframes, I thought we were on the same page as to where to go next. In the off chance I was mistaken, I'll go over the steps from the beginning.
When you use the File generator, Motion automatically evenly divides the time of the length of the generator by the number of lines of text and plays them accordingly. When you look in the Text Generator Inspector, the Speed is set for Constant... Motion figures out how many lines of text and inserts *fixed* keyframes.  What you really want to do is set the Speed to Custom:
Immediately afterwards, you want to Reset the Custom Speed keyframes (Motion defaults from 0% - 100% over the length of the generator.)  Clearing the default keyframes will keep you from having problems later.
Once you have the  keyrames for the Custom Speed parameter cleared, you can move the playhead to the start of where you want the first line of text to appear and set an In Point for the generator.  You will also want to mark the first keyframe so click on the yellow diamond to set it at 0%.
Next, play the project and at the point you want the *next* line to appear, move the Custom Speed slider enough until the next line *just appears* (the keyframe will automatically be set.)  If you need more precision, you can widen the inspector column by clicking on the dividing line and dragging it right.
Continue doing the same until your finished setting the Custom Speed keyframes.
Then, right click on Custom Speed and Show In Keyframe Editor
Below shows the keyframes are linear.  They need to be Constant. So, click on any keyframe in the Editor and Command-A to select all. Then right-click on any keyframe, and from the popup menu, select Interpolation > Constant.
This is what you're going for -- Custom Speed values that are flat until they change -- Each line will appear at precisely the point of the keyframe.

  • Wav file gets out of sync with sequence

    Hello,
    I have a 30min sequence that I sent the dialogue to an audio engineer for clean up as an OMF. He sent it back and it gets out of sync about the first 2 minutes or so. By the 30th minute the audio is out of sync about 47 frames.
    I've tried multiple things, couple of observations: the WAV file's waveforms in the timeline show that all audio is in sync, yet when I playback in the timeline audio its out of sync. I even opened up the wav file on Quicktime player and timecodes from quicktime player and my video timeline do match, its only when i place the wav file in the timeline that it appears out of sync.
    I've sent the whole sequence to Soundtrack Pro as a multitrack project. When I playback there it is in sync with the video!!! I export back and still same issue...
    Editing on a Macbook Pro OS X 10.8.4 2.6GHZ Intel Core i7 on FCP 6.0.6.
    The sequence settings: Apple ProRes HQ 25fps. Audio settings: 48 KHz, 16-bit, channel grouped.
    Wave file (sent by audio engineer): 16bit 48.000KHz. Data Rate: 1528.21 kbits/s
    Any help would be amazing!
    Thanks,

    One possibility
    You need to have your easy setup have a frame rate that exactly matches your sequence settings BEFORE you import the audio file.  Doesn't seem to always cause a problem, but it can happen.

  • Bug ? AAC / H264 video gets out of sync

    ello,
    we're using Wowza for live TV broadcasting. For now the service isn't publicly released (it will be a subscriber-only TV) but it will be in the next day.
    Here is our setup:
    - PlaylistBroadcaster, part of the Darwin Streaming Server distribution, reads a playlist of files and forwards them through RTP/RTCP to WMS. The files are:
    Hinted MP4 container (with "Server optimization")
    768 kbps, 25 fps, 720x576 H264 video
    128 kbps stereo AAC-HE audio
    (encoded from Final Cut Pro)
    - A custom module written in Ruby generates .replacelist files to dynamically generate the playlist.
    - WMS configured in live-rtp mode streams the thing to flash clients.
    All this is being run on the same server (Gentoo Linux), which has quite low load when streaming (something like 0.06 on a bi-processor system).
    All this is perfectly in sync when the files are read locally. It is also in sync if I watch with the "live" player shipped with Wowza or with my own, home-made player and do not leave the flash window or tab.
    However, if I drop focus for the video window, like if I switch a Firefox tab, Safari tab, or press alt-tab and do something else, and then come back a bit later the video is out of sync (late) with the audio.
    This happens only on this live streaming player, not on YouTube.
    This night I have been running a test: I left the video running all night keeping focus on the window. After a 8 hour run, the video was still totally in sync so that's not a problem on the DSS side.
    I then tried to drop focus and come back a minute or two later, on the video, and there's a slight offset, between 400ms and 2s. The audio is in advance, this is an invariant parameter: the video is never in advance.
    So I'm wondering if that's a problem with Flash Player: obviously this is not a problem with Wowza or Darwin Streaming Server since it stays in sync. Could it be due to Flash hardware acceleration or something ? Any hints about H264 video getting out of sync with audio when Flash has not the focus, freezes for a second, and other such events ?
    We are working on Adobe Flash CS4, the video is encoded with Final Cut Pro.

    Is it 50p or 50i?
    What make.model canera shot the footage?
    Was the audio recorded to the camera or by a separate recorder?

  • Chapter points get out of sync while burned to DVD

    In the timeline I had to trim an mpeg file for 12 seconds. Later on I added chapters. In the preview everything works fine, but when burned to a DVD, the chapter points get out of sync more and more. At the end it's about 30 seconds on a film of 60 minutes. Even the film stops 30 seconds earlier.
    What is going wrong here?
    Han Bouman

    Yes! This is indeed true; I just noticed this today. It doesn't appear to have any actual affect on the DVD. The first chapter starts out right at 0:00 but by the end, it's off (as compared to the project file) by mannnnnnny seconds. Why does this happen?

  • Slideshow audio gets out of sync when exported to iDvd

    I made a large slideshow for a 40th anniversary party. It has 244 images & 7 songs. It is 29 min 54 seconds long. When I view the slideshow in iPhoto it works fine & the last image ends right at the end of the last song.
    When I exported it to iDvd, the audio gets out of sync with the video. By the end of the first song, the video is about 2 seconds ahead. By the end of the last image, the last song is cut of by about 30 to 45 seconds. I tried exporting the slideshow directly to iDvd. I also exported it as a large movie & it did the same thing.
    I'm using a 17" 1.67ghz powerbook with 1.5 gigs of ram.
    I'm using OS 10.4.2.
    I'm using iPhoto 5.0.4
    I'm using iDvd 5.0.1
    The images are scanned tiffs. I also have jpegs that I shot with my canon eos digital rebel xt.
    Anybody have any ideas or work-arounds?

    I suggest you either use iDVD to create two slideshows or use iMovie to get all 277 images and the 8 audio tracks into one slideshow. If you use iMovie after you get the slideshow/movie put together and completed quit iMovie. Then go into the iMovie project package (Control-click and select Show Package Contents). The find your movie in the Shared Movies folder and drag it into an open iDVD menu. This allows iDVD to to the rendering of the stills and give you a sharper image. That movie file you're dragging is a reference movie so leave it where it is and just drag it into iDVD's window.
    If you can live with two separate slideshow (consider it a potty break between the two) and you don't have or need the Ken Burns effect, you can get excellent results by building the slideshows with iDVD from imported stills. The sync to audio in this method works as advertised. I like to add a blank slide at the end of the slideshow so the music fades out during a blank, black slide.

  • Tape archive DV tape: the audio gets out of sync.

    I have some trouble with FCPX working with my DV tapes and camera (via FW).

  • Mac OS X partition ("Macintosh HD") gets out of sync after hibernation

    Hello,
    I have a first-generation Unibody 15" MacBook Pro. I run Mac OS X Lion and Windows XP Profession 32-bit through Boot Camp on it.
    I notice that the Mac OS X partition gets out of sync after I hibernate in Windows XP, reboot into Mac OS X Lion, restart and resume Windows XP. Certain folders would remain visible in Windows Explorer but become inaccessible, while some folders that I just created in Mac OS X would not even show up.
    Is there a way to tell Windows XP to "remount" the HFS+ partition?
    Steps to reproduce:
    Boot into Windows XP;
    Hibernate Windows XP;
    Boot into Mac OS X;
    Pick a folder and change something in it;
    Create a new folder;
    Reboot and resume Windows XP;
    Open "Windows Explorer";
    Try to access the folders you just meddled with.

    Don't hibernate, shut XP down when you reboot and the issue goes away, you really should consider using a more modern operating system.

  • HELP: Audio regions get out of sync when I change tempo

    I've got Logic Pro 9. I've recorded audio on a few tracks, and they sound great together. When I go to change tempo (either in the transport bar or in the tempo track), the regions change in size and move around horizontally, and get out of sync as a result.
    Has anyone had this problem? Why should changing the tempo of the project affect the position of the audio regions IN RELATION TO ONE ANOTHER? I want them to stay in sync after changing tempo.
    Thanks in advance!

    The reason they move is that logic is a bar/beat based Sequencer rather than a time based sequencer like pro tools. The regions adhere to the tempo grid and when the tempo is changed, they seemingly lengthen or shorten because the tempo shifts the bar/beat grid with respect to time--and audio regions normally Are inflexible and last for a fixed amount of time no matter what the tempo is changed to. This is an advantage when your audio is quantized musical events, but for non musical events it's a disaster because it screws up your edits.
    To fix the problem, find the timelock key command and highlight all regions you don't want the tempo change to affect. after selecting them all, timelock them with this command.
    But, from your post Im guessing that you have bigger problems than this....Timelocking regions will only prevent region starts from shifting around and will leave all your edits unchanged. but it won't speed or slow down your audio; It will not alter lengths to fit a new tempo. if your tracks are music tracks in a certain tempo and you are trying to change the tempo of your recorded audio, you must enable the flex mode on each track. For this you should read the part of the manual on the flex engine. Bear in mind that the audio quality of this ranges from ok to terrible depending on the material.
    The moral of the story is that you should try to arrive at the correct tempo before recording audio tracks.

  • HELP! Imported audio files now randomly out of sync!

    I cut a short film a while ago. It was shot on HDV. I used some in-camera audio (from the HDV tapes) but also, some audio files from my sound mixer, which I originally imported as WAV files and manually sunc them up. Everything was fine.
    Later, I outgrew the original media drive and upgraded, copying all of my media to the new drive. When I did that, I noticed that all of the camera audio was fine, but all of the audio that had been imported from those WAV files was randomly out of sync -- meaning that some files were 1 sec early, some 16 frames late, etc.
    When I broke the link and re-linked to the original drive, all was fine again. Now, however, doing that makes those original files out of sync also.
    When I relink these files now, FCP ALWAYS finds a discrepency with them: They supposedly have a different "Media Start and End" and "Rate." Apparently, that's why they're being offset, but they're the EXACT same files that I started with, so what's up?!??
    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. They represent A LOT of work to fix one by one.

    This is what it says under FORMAT: 24-bit Integer (Little Endian), Mono, 48.000 kHz
    Incidentally, this is EXACTLY the same for both the files on the original drive (that play perfectly in sync) and the copied ones that are out of sync.
    I realize that FCP likes AIFFs, but WAVs is what my sound guy gave me.
    Any other ideas?

  • IDE suddenly gets out of sync with dbx

    I recently have seen a few cases where, during debugging sesions, the IDE gets out of sync with dbx: while sitting at a breakpoint, the debugger toolbar buttons suddenly are greyed out with the exception of the "Pause" button, as if the inferior process were running. A message "Process state modified" is displayed briefly in the status line at the bottom. I suspect this may be due to a problem with balloon evaluation, because somehow it seems to be triggered by cursor motion.
    It is possible to "rectify" the situation by issueing a "next" in the dbx console, after this, the debugger toolbar buttons revert to their normal state.
    I will try to narrow this down further. Is there anything I can do which could help to find the problem?
    This happened with Sunstudio Express 07/08 as well as with 11/08.

    I finally managed to reproduce this reliably. This was confusing at first because it does not only involve certain C++ code, but also the dbxenv variable output_dynamic_type.
    This is indeed a balloon evaluation issue: If the mouse pointer hovers over an expression which involves an overloaded "operator->()", I usually get a balloon saying "<contains function calls>, which is okay. If I set "dbxenv output_dynamic_type on", I get the same output, but the toolbar switches somehow to "running" when the balloon pops up.
    I can reproduce this with just a dozen lines of self-contained C++ code.
    I will report a bug at bugs.sun.com.
    BTW: could anybody please set the timeout value for posts and replies in this forum to a reasonable value? This reply took me only a few minutes, but when i actually posted the message I got a timeout response...

  • When Watching TV, the Voice and Picture Gets Out of Sync?

    When watching TV, a lot of time, the voice gets out of sync with the picture.  I have to turn of the the set, wait a bit, turn it back on the the voice and picture is back in sync.  This happens a lot!  Is there something that can be done to fix this problem?  If so, what?  I have the current equipment from Comcast. Thanks for any help. Charlie

    It helps. But I should have asked another questiion:  Does the syn issue occur on some channels or all the channels? If it is some channels, I would suspect the issue is with Comcast's feed. If it is all channels, I would recommend having Comcast send a tech out to check your system.

  • VB Script to accept PC names in text file and get registry key value out of those systems

    Hi All,
    My task: Create VB script to accept PC names from a text file, process each host name to get Registry key value of individual host name and finally export them to a text file or an excel sheet having registry key value against each pc.
    I want to pull key value of LSFORCEHOST located in HKCU/Environment of each PC and export this value against each pc in a text or Excel file.
    What I achieved: I am able to process against single pc name but failed to process 3000+ systems listed in a text file which I tried to process through VB script. I am not pro and learning the VBS and cant write complex code.
    My VBS code written so far(It failed many time with issue):
     Option Explicit
     Const HKEY_CURRENT_USER = &H80000001
     Dim oFSO, sFile, oFile, sText, strComputer,oReg, strKeyPath, strValueName, strValue, objFSO, objFile, strContents
     Set oFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
     sFile = "test.txt"
     If oFSO.FileExists(sFile) Then
      Set oFile = oFSO.OpenTextFile(sFile, 1)
       Do While Not oFile.AtEndOfStream
        sText = oFile.ReadLine
         If Trim(sText) <> "" Then
    strComputer = sText
    Set oReg=GetObject("winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" & _
        strComputer & "\root\default:StdRegProv")
    strKeyPath = "Environment"
    strValueName = "LSFORCEHOST"
    oReg.GetStringValue HKEY_CURRENT_USER,strKeyPath,strValueName,strValue
    Const ForReading = 1
    Const ForWriting = 2
    Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    Set objFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile("C:\destination.txt",1, ForReading)
    strContents = strValue
    Set objFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile("C:\destination.txt",2, ForWriting)
    objFile.Write strContents
    objFile.Close
    End If
    Loop
    oFile.Close
    End If
    I think when I tried to process each PC name from text file against registry key value, above code not working. As per my knowledge some issue in loop. Do I need to add FOR EACH feature?
    Please help to correct it. Thanks in advance.

    Your code contains numerous errors. Furthermore you make things difficult for yourself by giving similar names to the objects used for your input and output. If you are a systems administrator then your best bet is to make an effort to learn the language
    instead of grabbing a few code fragments from here and there and hoping that somehow they will work.
    Try the cleaned up code below for this particular project. Note the consistent code indentation. It helps you enormously when trying to understand the structure of the code. Remember also that you must fully qualify all file paths. Writing to "Destination.txt"
    will cause endless confusion because you never know for sure where this file will reside.

  • DVD encoded video and audio progressively get out of sync

    Hi Compressor professionados,
    I've been trying to finalise a DVD I’m creating but keep having the same show-stopping problem where I just can't get the timing of the audio and video right after encoding it to MPEG-2/ac3 for DVD Studio Pro. When I lay it into the track in DVDSPro it plays fine at the start of the track but as the clip gets longer the audio and video gets further and further out of sync, by a few seconds (eg. for over 1 hour length footage).
    I've seen similar posts online about timing issues with Compressor but nothing I saw has hit the nail on the head for me. I also posted my problem on Creative Cow but didn't get the help I needed to fix my problem.
    Here's the specs:
    FCPro X 10.1.4
    Video project: 1080i (@ 25i)
    Audio 44.1 kHz
    Render: Apple ProRes 422
    Length: 01:13:05:02
    Compressor 4.1.3
    MPEG-2 Setting (only what I think is important... or I don't know)
    Format: Elementary Stream
    Stream Usage: DVD
    Retiming: Set duration to: 100% (shows 01:13:05:02)
    Video Frame Rate: Auto (25fps)
    Field Order: Same as Source
    GOP: greyed out at 12
    ac3:
    Sample rate: 48kHz (the only choice)
    Data rate: 224 kbps
    DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1
    PAL DVD-9 project
    From FCP I send my project to Compressor and when I drop both a DVD Audio and Video codec onto it they both show as Retiming 100% (and the length looks the same) but the results are still unsynchronised at the end of the clip when they are placed into the Track in DVDSPro. I've also tried changing different settings, like MPEG-2 Retiming duration to "So source frames play at 25 fps", but I'm still having troubles.
    At one point I managed to get the A/V timing right for my track and I then ran what I thought was the same settings for all my other tracks in the DVD but they ended up with a similar outa-sync problem so I deleted everything to try again and realised I'd deleted my good files. And I just can't seem to replicate it again. I’m not sure if it was an accidental mistake that worked or I hit on the right settings. Either way, it shouldn’t be this hard to get it right, for heaven's sake!!!
    Also, strangely, when I open the MPEG-2 file in QuickTime Player (10.4) it shows 01:10:30 long but if I open the same file in QuickTime Pro 7 it shows as the correct 1:13:05. And DVD Studio Pro shows 01:13:05:02 for both the audio & video assets but their sync is still out at the end.
    This problem stopped me from producing the DVD last Christmas and I tried to pick it up again to give it to the family for this Christmas but ended up having to bail yet again - not impressed!!!
    I'm hoping it's a simple solution of getting the settings right but it may also be a bug! Apparently, my bro-in-law has had similar problems and has ditched the DVD route altogether. I already have all of my menus etc. set up and I'd hate to have to ditch all that hard work.
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Brett

    Thanks so much Russ & Tom!
    It was as easy as changing the sample rate in the FCP project from 44.1 to 48 and sending it to Compressor again. I think it was set to 44.1 because I had the project set to automatically assign the parameters from the first video dropped into it. I haven't checked yet but the audio from my camera is likely 44.1.
    It would be nice if Compressor produced a warning message when you set the codec up for DVD audio that the original is set to a different sample rate & may cause timing problems when resampled to 48kHz.
    Anyway, again THANKS lads for solving what has been a year long problem for me and now I can complete my Christmas project, albeit late!
    Virtual chocolates to you both!!!

  • Why is the audio on my video getting out of sync when it is imported into itunes?

    Hello,
    I have videos in the MP4 Format, and have imported them into itunes. However, during playback in itunes, the audio gets more and more out of sync as the video plays. By the end of the film the audio can be 5-6 seconds out!
    What's strange is that the source file, played with quicktime or Windows media player, is fine and works perfectly.
    Why is the audio stretched once it is imported?
    Thanks,
    James

    I have the same problem.

    Tried with the integrated ALC889A audio device enabled and disabled (It seems that the video card drives the HDMI audio device though, because it still appears in Windows even if I disable the Audio device in BIOS).
    Latest iTunes and drivers installed.
    I have already tried all sugestions about matching Windows Audio settings to iTunes settings (bit depth, frequency rate).
    Apple, any suggestions? I'm not having a great customer experience after buying a pair of HD movies in iTunes.

  • Adobe PDF FileToPDF - Text file generated?!

    Hi guys, I wrote a macro that converts a worksheet to PDF format, it all works fine none of this is the issue. What's driving me insane is that after it converts the post script to PDF it also generates a text file along with it with the results! It's driving me nuts because I can't figure out what the damn file extension for it is, and it's not .TXT...
    Can some of you guru's help me out please? Thanks!

    >It's the same filename as the generated PDF.
    No, that's not possible. You can have only one file with a given name.
    What you probably have is the Windows setting to hide file types
    (which are part of the name). I recommend you turn this off, as it
    just causes confusion. In Windows XP, use
    MY COMPUTER
    Tools > Folder options
    Click View tab
    Switch OFF "Hide extensions for known file types".
    If it is LOG file, this is normal. You should check the log file (in
    notepad, for example) to make sure there are no important messages
    like font problems.
