Thankpad W530 and Docking Station - missing audio device???

I needed to set up a new Thinkpad Minii Dock Plus Series 3/USB with my W530.
First, there was a problem that the computer woldn't "seat" in the docking station.  After calling Lenovo Tech support, and not getting anywhere, I individually pressed the "prongs" that stick up from the docking station.  There was a loud "click" and several small thingies dropped down into the docking station.  After that, the laptop fit right in the way it's supposed to.
I thought I was done, but I noticed an error message on my screen about a device driver error.  The Lenovo Technician had me go to control panel > system > device manager.....   right click on the machine name, and then click on "scan for hardware changes".
Device Manager didn't show any errors, but doing this generated an error box that said:
Device driver software was not successfully installed
Unidentified device --- device unplugged
High Definition Audio Controller --  ready to use
NVIDIA High Definition Audio ---  ready to use
What do I do now?  Is my docking station defective?  Do I need to plug something into the docking station for this update to complete?  The Lenovo tech had no idea what I might do, other than to call on Monday for "level 2 techs".
As a related issue when I went to update Windows, the following update was to be installed:
NVIDIA Corporation - Audio Device, Other hardware - NVIDIA High Definition Audio      3.9 MB
When I try to install this update, I get:
Code 800F020B  Windows Update encounterd an unknown error
I think all of this is connected, but I don't see how it might have anything to do with the docking station.
As to the docking station, I tested the power connection (green light is on), a USB port (works), the audio out connection (speakers work fine, with no crackling sound), and the Ethernet connection (works).  I haven't yet tried connecting an additional monitor, but that would have nothing to do with audio....

This is the Windows update that will not install:
NVIDIA Corporation - Audio Device, Other hardware - NVIDIA High Definition Audio
Installation date: ‎5/‎11/‎2013 2:14 PM
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 800F020B
Update type: Optional
NVIDIA Corporation Audio Device, Other hardware software update released in July, 2012

Any idea of how the docking station might be causing this?
All updates were done prior to installing the docking station.
Now I have this "problem" (that might be no big deal - I don't understand what's going on.

  • W540 + Dock station (40A20170EU), Audio and HDMI problems - SOLVED

    Hello,
I have recently bought your dock station (40A20170EU) and as soon as I started using it the problems began:
     - Audio jack on the dock is not working and is emitting static.
     - As soon as I connect a display via HDMI port (on the dock station) my laptop display starts flickering (the display was tested on the PC and works).
I have updated the dock firmware to 2.21.000, nothing changed.
PS. The second monitor running from the docking stations display port is working fine.
    I need your help!
    Thank you!

    SOLVED.
    1) Removed all display drivers.
    2) In BIOS I changed the display setting from standard to advanced.
    3) Reinstalled all the display drivers.
    4) Reconnect the HDMI monitor and now it’s working.

According to Lenovo, XP Home has a conflict with the built in camera of some S10 and they have a Bison patch to solve it.
I already downloaded the bison update and realtek audio driver. Still it didnt work!
I checked the audio folder. No audio device found! What could be the problem? Checked the Device manager only bluetooth related devices were found.
    Please help. Ty!

    brilami,
Here is the link to the S10 support site with all applicable drivers.
You should be able to download theRealtek audio driver from that page.

  • T60p and dock station: can't do the dual monitors

    hi gurus:
i have a t60p and a mini dock station. the docking station seems to be working fine execept the problems with dual-monitor function.
    1) for some reasons, the laptop lcd always shows up as screen 2 instead of default screen 1
    2) tried to monkey around the settings and got messages claimed that i don't have administrative rights to change... blah, blah (i am the sole person using this laptop and i am the administrator).
    any idea?
any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Paul,
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. Or an errant process eating up RAM.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Generation 3 and Docking Stations

Was told by a Genius at the Apple Store that the nano (gen 3) isn't compatible with all docking stations. Am wondering what others would recommend as good audio docking stations or docking options that will allow me to use the nano with our exsiting stereo system or television.

    Hey jgoose,
    This is one option.
I have been exploring this and a receiver I just bought came with a cable to do what you ask. The cable has a 3 mm (1/8") phone plug on one end of the cable just like the ear phone plug that comes with your Nano. On the other end of the cable it has three "RCA" plugs to go into your existing stereo system or television. These plugs are one each: yellow, white and red.
It works great! I do need to turn the Nano volume way up; see my other tread in this discussions list.
And yes you will need to recharge the Nano after several hours of use. But the trade off is the cable is cheep and you still will connect your Nano to sinc it and it will charge then.
Many of the dock's tech info have a graphic list of iPods that will work with their product. See Amazon etc.
That is my next trick to find a dock but for now this cable works great and it came with my new receiver; perhaps I will still need the cable when I get a dock.
Hope that gets you going, if only until you get your dock.

  • Problem with laptop and docking station

    Hello.
We have two laptops with two docking station. Both laptops w/ docking have the same problem:
When the computer is turned off, and its still connected to the docking station, the fan in the computer start to run really fast. The fan goes on for a good while. This is making alot of noise, which can be annoying for the person using the office. When the computer is on, the fan runs at normal speed. If you disconnect the computer from the docking station, the fan stops immediately. Any ideas?

It is possible the notebook is not completing the shutdown in full when docked.
Make sure the BIOS is the most recent version.
Here is the most recent one to try should you need it.
Other than that, I am afraid I do not have much else for this. I did some research, but I didn't really find anything that was exactly like this. I found scenarios where the fan would run at full speed when docked, but this happened whether the notebook was booted or not. You can try your luck in the business support forums to see if they may have something that is a little more helpful.

  • Fix for Missing Audio Device in WinXP S

My sound card disappeared from the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties panel. I tried cleansweeping and reinstalling to no effect. I could watch my card disappear from the panel as Windows went through startup after I reinstalled it. My card , a Sound Blaster Li've!, was listed under the hardware tab but the drivers were listed as "Driver installed but not started". Creative Diagnostics said I passed the hardware detection test but failed the driver tests. I am using the drivers from the Li'veDrvUni-Pack(ENG) version .0.0..
I found this fix after searching with Google. The site is www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxpt/t06642744. It resolved my problem. I did use DH Driver Cleaner Pro to remove any Creative drivers. You need to know that the hardware scan and reinstall in step 6 can take several minutes. I also removed hidden copies of my Creative devices in step 5. The revealed hidden devices have greyed icons next to them.

    RE>Hello to all,
I got much useful information from this topic, but none of them resolved my sound
problem. I use Windows XP SP2 on an Asus V7V8X and a Creative SB Audigy. I also tried
removing the SB card and enabling the built in VIA AC 97 without success.
Then I tried removing and adding back the Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator
    as you suggested without success.
Then I went further reinstalling some of the kernel sound drivers and that resolved
the issue in my case so I describe my ste
    ps.
First I suggest everyone to create a System Restore point to have something to return
in case of something goes wrong. You can boot XP to safe mode by pressing F8 at the
beginning of the Windows startup and select Safe Mode if the system doesn?t start
in normal mode and use System Restore there to go back to the working configuration.
Then try these steps only if the others mentioned here don?t help. I had everything
ok in Device Manager and every driver was running that should, compared to an other
working system, but the symptom was that there was no sound coming out from the sound
card. Everything was OK in the Device Manager, but in the Sounds and Audio Devices
Control Panel there was only the Voice recording option on the Voice tab, and the
MIDI music playback (without the sound card being in the list) on the Audio tab acti've.
The others like Voice playback, Sound playback, Sound recording and everything on
the Volume tab was grayed out.
    . Create the restore point.
    2. On the System Properties panel, Advanced tab, Environment Variables button, under
the User variables click New and create a variable named devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices
    with the value of .
    3. Open the Device Manager and select Show hidden devices from the View menu.
    4. Under the Sound, video and game controllers group, find your sound card(s) and
disable it/them (don?t need to uninstall).
    5. Then uninstall the following devices:
    - Microsoft Kernel Audio Splitter
    - Microsoft Kernel System Audio Device
    - Microsoft Kernel Wave Audio Mixer
    - Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver
    6. Select Scan for hardware changes from the Action menu. Now the system should redetect
and reinstall the deleted devices automatically. You may get non signed driver warnings,
    click continue.
    7. Enable the devices you disabled in step 4. You may need to restart the computer.
The problem should be disappeared, you should be able to play sounds.
    Good luck!

    Hi
You should check if the microphone has not been disabled.
Go to control panel -> sound -> recording tab
There you should make a right click and should enable the both options called show hidden devices and show disabled devices.
Now you should see 2 microphone entries; one internal mic and second should belong to the external mic jack.
If you want to use the internal mic then mark it as default device.

  • Docking Station T430, Graphic interfaces from notebook and docking station usable at once?

    Dear community,
I have a Thinkpad T430 and I want to use two external monitors.
The Thinkpad T430 has just one mini Displayport and I do not want to use the VGA port.
So I thought about buying a docking station.
    But there are several ones.
I just need an additional (Miini)Display or DVI port.
The question is, if I buy a docking station
which provides an addition Mini Display Port or an additional DVI port am I able to use the one from the docking station and the notebook's integrated mini display port?
    Thanks for your help.

my dock station is  a great product
please do not stop to make a good product!

Unfortunately docking stations, like firewire ports and pcmcia slots, are disappearing from laptops other than the very highest end business models. So right now no consumer model has a traditional snap down docking station. The only models that do are the Elitebook, Probook, Zbook lines:

  • T450s and docking stations : don't understand differences and limitations

    Hi,
As you may have seen in my previous posts, I leave my previous company and my good old X220. So I am really wondering if I upgrade or not to the new T450s, or if I search for a X220/X230/T420s/T430s refurbished.
One of my main concern, is the total display size when docked. I used to use quad FHD screens on my old X220, and I was thinking about increasing again the total display size by replacing 2 FHD screen by 1 4K monitor. However, it seems impossible to run 1 4K and 2 FHD simultaneously.
So my question is, Where can I find the differences and limitations of the docking stations available for the T450s regarding the display size ability ?
On the product sheet of the docking stations , Lenovo said "* Some of the video ports have exclusive use and are also dependent on the docked ThinkPad configuration".
Ok, but where can I have this information ?
    Many thanks for your answers,

    According to https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/quick-reference-guide-to-intel-processor-graphics,
    For HD5500 on U processor :
Independent Digital Displays : Yes (at most, 3 displays may be supported at one time)
    Maximum Display Resolution : U-Processors: 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz
So 4 displays won't be possible on T450s.
So, I guess, you can run :
    1 4K display @ 60hz
    OR
    something like 3 FHD/WUXGA displays
    If someone can confirm...

My ipod nano 7th generation requires a docking adapter which I bought however when connected to docking station a message appears "unsupported accessory is not supported" how do I correct this so it will play?

If it is a lightning to 30 pin adaptor, and you have a 7th Generation Nano it has to fit the Nano.
This is lightning to 30 pin adapter: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple%26%23174%3B---Lightning-to-30-Pin-Adapter/6651 936.p?id=1218803450821&skuId=6651936#tab=overview
    Is this what you bought?
You need to contact Sony and see if they model you have is compatible with the docking adapter. It may not be.
