The cursor "jumps out" of the find box before search line is completed?

I frequently use "find" command..... what happens VERY frequently is that the cursor "Jumps out" of the find command box prior to my finishing the search letters......... Firefox wants to locate ANY item with only a few matching intro letters........... This is VERY annoying.... I do believe that Firefox should be changed so the find search will be executed when "enter" is keyed.........

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
• FF was running fine. My cursor jumped out of the text box while i was typing and now no text box on FF will let me type in it? Help!

Basically as above, i opened a new tab to search for an article and as i was typing the cursor jumped out of the box without my realising. I placed the cursor back in the box and started but no characters appeared. I tried the URL bar and again nothing. I opened Chrome and it worked fine so clearly something ive managed to do but i have no idea what!
I didn't use any shift, alt or ctrl buttons accidentally. I have tried shutting FF down and reopening but nothing.
Can anyone help please?
As an addition, why does the cursor jump out like that?
Thanks

Hello darrendons, try disabling graphics '''hardware acceleration'''. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
* [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
* [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

• When I touch the trackpad the cursor jumps away from the bubble.

I thought this might be a bug, but I'm not sure anymore. I have Sophos for Mac and it hasn't noted any problems. What happens is that when I initiate a tap on the trackpad the cursor jumps away from the item or bubble I am trying to tap. It is annoying but not bothersome enough to ruminate about. I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem?

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

• Url does not show up in address bar...and when i type in a search box, the cursor jumps up to the address bar automatically

I'm not sure what happened. However, I can never see the URL in the address bar anymore.
I go from page to page, and the URL shows only for a split second, then disappers.
All the address bar says is "Search or enter address"
I copy and paste a lot of URL links for work, so this makes it very painful and a hassle now.
Where now i need to go back, right click on a link, and do "copy link location".
Where as i used to just go up to the address bar and copy the URL.
Also, I notice now when I start typing on certain search boxes.
The cursor automatically jumps to the URL address bar as soon as I start typing. Which is really annoying.
It will only do it once it seems....but its annoying when i try to type a search...only to see that i've been typing in the URL address box cus it jumped up there.
PLEASE HELP!!!!

Try some basic troubleshooting.
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click Help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on ''Help'' (or click on ''Help'' in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode''
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
• The cursor jumps to wherever the pointer is while typing in text boxes.

While typing in a text box, the blinking cursor will jump to wherever the mouse pointer is and begin inserting the typing there. It happens both on external mouse and on touchpad. It's only on Firefox, I've tested IE and it's fine. Sometimes it is the ' that causes it (I read up on the "jump to find" bug), but it seems to be mostly the spacebar that sets it off. I've had it happen on various websites, blogs, emails, internal site mailboxes, seems to be everywhere. Sometimes a FF restart helps, sometimes a computer restart helps, sometimes nothing helps.
I've also had site pages jump "back" in the middle of typing in a text box as well. At first I thought I was hitting the touchpad while typing by mistake but it happens with the external mouse as well. I have the touchpad disabled while ext. mouse is used.
FF is Version 3.6.10, and I'm on laptop.
Plleeeeezzze don't tell me I have to go back to IE. ewwwww

• WHy is the cursor jumping to wrong position (mainly back to position 1 in the text field) as I try to post comments to peoples posts on Facebook?

I love FIrefox browser and prefer to use it on all my devices, PC, Smart Tv, Phone, Tablet etc. In recent times Iv'e had problems though, everytime I try to comment on a facebook post with each key stroke the cursor jumps back to the beginning of the text field and by the time I finish typing I look up and find jibberish, yesterday I upgraded this RKM Mk902 Android device that I am typing on now unfortunately using Chrome from Anroid 4.2.2 to android 4.4.2 Kit-Kat and thought I would no longer have that problem but the issue is still there. I also have discovered I'm having similar problems with FireFox on my Cube U39GT tablet. As I spend more time on Facebook than any other website I have to find a solution. I thought it may of been one of the addons that i use causing the problems such as Phony but I still get the issue without the addons and after a clean install. Please help me sort out this problem so I can once more use FireFox on my Android devices.

I found this, it seems that there are a few issues in Android as well with the wrong placement for the cursor when you type: [https://github.com/RobinHerbots/jquery.inputmask/issues/465] but since it is only happening in facebook, this is odd.
What this means is that they are working on fixing specific issues like this and I am not sure when this will be fixed.
Does this happen with both keyboards that are offered in the Android Settings?

• I find very annoying that, although the cursor is flashing in the serch box, unless that box has been clicked in to enable it, typing goes to the nearest topic in the bookmark list. how to stop it from happening?

i use Google home page as my firefox home page. often i find that although the cursor is flashing in the serch box, unless that box has been clicked in to enable it, typing goes to the nearest topic in the bookmark list instead of accepting the typing. how to stop it from happening? why not stop the cursor from appearing in the search box unless you have clicked in it?

Do you organise your email into separate folders, or do you just let it accumulate in the Inbox?
I would strongly advise you not to let it sit in the Inbox.
When you see this happening, try right-click on the affected folder, select '''Properties''' then '''Repair Folder'''.
Large folders (actually, a folder in Thunderbird is stored as a file, so it is sensitive to file size limits set by the underlying file system) can be problematic. This is one reason not to let messages collect in one folder. I use Thunderbird's Archive folders so that accumulated mails over several years can happily coexist because they are effectively stored in many small folders. No single mail store folder then exceeds the 2GB or 4GB sizes that have been known to stress the OS. I appreciate that current builds of Thunderbird and a modern 64-bit OS should be able to cope, but practically I find it slows down when given huge files, so I err towards a pragmatic solution; a large number of not very big files.
Archives are searchable, and a Saved Search folder can give you a virtual composite folder allowing access to the entire Archive.

• In latest Nightly, arrow keys don't move the cursor but instead exit the text box. How can I fix this so that the arrow keys move the cursor?

Using Nightly 28.0a1, I'm having a problem with the text box fields when typing. I use Hacker's Keyboard which has onscreen arrow keys and I find it more convenient than fiddling with a tiny cursor thumb when editing text. On the Play Store Firefox it works just fine but on Nightly, any time I try to move the cursor with the arrow keys it jumps out of the text box and highlights other elements on the page. This is annoying beyond belief as it means having to resort to that imprecise thumb cursor that takes forever to get where you want it. Is this a known issue with the latest nightly builds?

Thanks for the report. I have filed bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=939959. It would be helpful to know and if you can comment into the bug to indicate which input field you are testing on.

• When watching youtube the video randomly jumps to the start of the video even if the cursor is not on the video.

When watching youtube the video randomly jumps to the start of the video even if the cursor is not on the video. This happens randomly and does not seem to be a problem with the videos as they run fine. what is going on?

Several times every day YouTube shuts down some of their servers to update stuff. Be patient if YouTube is slow, stuck or mangled. Transmissions from YouTube to your computer are done in multiple tiny packets of data and flash at a time. That's why sometimes you may get any of these scenarios: bits and pieces of text/thumbnails in weird places; sluggish loading/buffering; the spinning circle going on forever; or the player being blank. This problem could fix itself within a few hours or by the next day.
If your YouTube continues to behave slow, stuck or strange, it's very possible that your directories of "temporary internet files" and RAM (sometimes known as "cache") are close to the maximum and just cannot take anymore, the end result being any of the above scenarios or videos that: A) come to a complete freeze; B) start/stop/start/stop in a choppy way; or C) never even make it onto your screen.
"Temporary internet files" are tiny bits of webpages that get permanently put on your hard-drive. They will remain forever on your computer, gradually plugging it up like hair stuck in a sink drain, until you finally get rid of them once and for all. Thus, exit out of YouTube, then clear your "cache" of all its "temporary internet files", "cookies" and "history". It is best if you shutdown and reboot afterwards. You'll be amazed at how "fresh" and "new" your YouTube will be.
