Error Message of disk not formatted when trying to upgrade to Lion

I am trying to upgrade to Lion and have received an error message stating "The disk in not formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Use disk utility to enable.
What exactly am I supposed to do in Disk Utility?
I opened it up and I wasn't sure if I am supposed to reformat? Repair? Partition? Am I supposed to be reformatting as an Extended Mac OS?
How exactly do I do that?
Basically has anyone encountered this and what steps are needed to continue from this point?

Open Disk Utility.
Select the volume to enable or disable journaling on.
To enable, click the Enable Journaling button or choose Enable Journaling from the File menu.

I keep getting the error message 'STARTUP DISK IS FULL' my comp is only 5 months old. what do I do?

Can anyone help, I keep getting the startupdisk is full message. My comp is only 5 months old, I dont know why it has happened, nor do I know what to do with it? I have tried following some of the threads, but I dont understand the solutions, could somebody help me using basic idiot language please? I am so frustrated, as I am new to Mac. Thanks

Error: "Scratch disk is full" when cropping an image

Solution suggested by PECourtejoie.
Issue: When you try to crop an image in Photoshop and enter width, height and resolution values in the crop options, you receive the error that the scratch disk is full and are unable to crop the image.
Details: If you leave the crop options blank, you can crop the image successfully. This usually occurs because you left a resolution target in the options for the crop tool and it is attempting to resample your image to something bigger than your scratch disk can hold
Solutions: Do one of the following:
Solution 1: Clear the crop tool options.
Click the Clear button on the crop tool options bar to remove previously entered measurements and the target resolution.
Solution 2: Specify measurement units when cropping.
Enter the desired measurement units in the width and height crop options. For example, enter 100px for pixels, or 1in for inches. Remove any text from the resolution field.
Solution 3: Set the default measurement units.
To set the default measurement units:
1. Choose Edit > Preferences > Units & Rulers (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences > Units & Rulers (Mac OS).
2. Select a measurement unit for Type under the Units section of the Preferences dialog box. For example, select Pixels.
3. Click OK.

I can't do any edits to my photoshop project because it says scratch disk is full when I have 50gb free!

My scratch disk is pointed to the C drive(the only drive I have at the moment). When I open photoshop it makes a 64gb Temp file! that leaves me with 50gb free but whenever I go to make a change or add text it says scratch disk is full! Help please!!

I'm glad to know that you can get by on only 120 GB . However, that's not my experience on Windows. Admittedly, Mac and Mavericks in particular seem to manage memory a lot better than Win. But I've been using PS since ver 4 and it's always been a huge memory drain.
In CS6, I'm finding my scratch disk often exceeds 100 GB. I have dedicated almost 300 GB to mine and it's still not enough for everything I do. But I know how to manage my resources so I can get by on what I have until new computers arrive.

I have just started using the above I cannot use the above because I get a message that says:- Cannot initialise photoshop because the scratch discs are full. I cannot get into the program to get to the edit menu to try an change the settings. Can anyone help

Hi Alan 12,
What operating system are you using?
How much space is left on your hard drive and what is the size of the hard drive that photoshop 7 is installed on?
The usual reason for that message on modern computers is that your hard drive has more than 1 TB of free space
and since photoshop 7 came out before such large hard drives were common, it can't read the large amount of
free space and gives the message about the scratch disk being full.
The best solution is to have photoshop 7 installed on a hard drive that has less than 1 TB of free space.
You might also try pressing the Alt+Ctrl keys just after clicking or double clicking on the photoshop 7 shortcut and keep
holding the keys until you get a dialog where you can choose another hard drive (or partition) for the scratch disk.

Scratch Disk is Full when it shouldn't be ?

Hello Anybody who can help !
To make room on the hard drive I constantly burn Photographs
to disk, which usually works. I have recently removed about
100 photos, but it still keeps saying "The Scratch Disk is Full"
Is it full or is it just confused ?
I intend to have a second hard drive attached soon, but until
then is there away round it ?

Hi Nick,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
In order to run properly MacOS X requires at least 1.5 GB of free hard disk space at all times, a little less if you have plenty of RAM (i.e. 2 GB or more)! As donnie already pointed out there has to be additional space if you burn optical media.
Therefore the requirements for free hard disk space are these:
If you burn CDs: 1.5 GB + 700 MB = 2.2 GB
If you burn DVDs: 1.5 GB + 4.8 GB = 6.3 GB
If youburn DVD-DL: 1.5 GB + 8.7 GB = 10.2 GBs
Please be aware that less hard disk space may lead to loss of data and may also render the system unusable.

Error message in Audition 2.0 when trying to burn a CD: no devices found

I am using Windows 7 and Adobe Audition 2.0. on a new laptop (Asus). When i try to burn a CD from the 'CD' workspace I get the error message 'no devices found'. I have burned other CDs on this machine separately from Audition so i know the Matsushita CD/DVD burner works. How do I get Audition to recognize the burner device? Thanks, Spintal

The one time this happened to me, it turned out it was the fault of a Windows update and doing a system restore back to the first state prior to that update fixed it.
From the number of times this crops up I suspect there are some other causes too--another thing I'd try is updated the drivers for the CD drive.

Keep getting error message about Dynamically-related files when trying to view in "Live" mode

I'm very new to all of this, but I have been following Adobe tutorials to try and get everything working (Setting up a PHP development environment for Dreamweaver | Adobe Developer Connection) . The database connection test in this section goes through fine, but then when I go to view the final step, viewing comments.php in "Live View," I get an error across the top. I have played with it a bit, so the error message changes somewhat, but basically it tells me that I have dynamically-related files that can't be loaded. Currently, it is because they can't be resolved, previously, it was because they could not be discovered. (I tried the "Discover" option which failed, after which I resorted to the "Setup" option, in which I changed my root folder from htcdocs to htcsdocs/kitchengallery — where I had all my PHP and site files — and tried again to no avail. So then I changed the settings in MAMP to correspond with the change from htcdocs to htcdocs/kitchengallery. Still no luck).
I am using Dreamweaver CS6.
I'm not sure what information someone might need to help me dig deeper into this issue, but I'm all ears!

Usually this is caused when antivirus "Grabs" the drive to scan it in the background, and/or windows itself "Grabs" the drive for indexing and things. It also happens if you play a song off the ipod thru iTUnes, then stop it.
Usually rebooting will force it to let go

Hi, I'm trying to save a Word doc on my mac OS X 10.4.11 but I keep getting an error message saying my hard drive is full. I tried restarting my computer, and I've freed up at least a GB since, but keep getting the same error message when I try to save my Word doc. Any ideas on what might be wrong? Thank you!

What is the total capacity of your HDD and how much free space do you have? (Select Macintosh HD icon and Get Info: Command + I)
You need to maintain a minimum of 15% of total disk capacity as contiguous free space for swap files and to avoid directory corruption. You really need a larger capacity HDD. Meanwhile Dr. Smoke's FAQ Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk has helpful ideas of freeing up space until you can get a larger drive.

Trying to compress my files because my computer keeps saying that my startup disk is almost full. However, when I try to compress my files, I get an error that reads "The operation can't be completed because the disk is full." Does anyone know why this is happening? Yes. You are trying to create more files taking up more space on the computer. Compressing files only reduces disk space used after you remove the uncompressed file.
Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
1. See Lion/Mountain Lion's Storage Display.
2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

I just received my acer aspire 1 netbook and i wanted to download firefox. I have used firefox before on my acer laptop but for some reason when I try to download it now i receive an error message similar to this one: :"unable to open this internent site. The requested site is either unavailable or can not be found" I tried downloading versions 3.6 and 4 beta and received the same message.
