The minimize, maximize and close buttons don't work, and I can't select any items in drop-down menus.

Question

Running Firefox 23.01 on Windows, and two days ago I lost the ability to maximize, minimize or close windows via the buttons in the upper righthand corner. I also am unable to select a choice in dropdown menus, and for good measure I cannot x out of the About window that popped up went I wanted to check my version number!
I've looked in the support forum and seen that this is not an uncommon problem. However, I have tried every suggested solution I could find - reset Firefox several times, turned off hardware acceleration, opened in safe mode and finally uninstalled and reinstalled the program (deleting the old program folders before reinstalling as recommended - and nothing has worked.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

[http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
