The N900 is restarting itself AGAIN! :(

I am sorry for posting this again but the problem "is back" even that I did the ECHO fix my N900 again is rebooting itself
It worked great like for 3 hours but I left alone the phone for 30 minutes (aprox) and when I tried to use it again it rebooted.  An hour has passed and it has rebooted itself 4 times....
I'm now really upset since I feel like Nokia ripped us all off, since this is not a problem that it is only happening to me but to a lot of people!!
Any other suggestions on how to fix this will be appreciated please!
Thanks

I know I have been nagging everyone with "sim cards", "WiFi"...etc.  So if we are back to square 1 can we use this group to do and experiement?
First lets just look at the device as a phone.  I know that a fair bunch of the telephony code way ported/modeled on the Symbian subsystem.   I also know that this re-booting has been seen on a few Symbian devices- because the telephony subsystem is very closely integrated with the Power management subsystem and the Telephone subsystem has the function to put the device in power saver, shut down the phone...etc.
Test Case:1
1) Settings-> time and date-> disable update automatically.
2) power cycle device.
3) Use for at least 8 hrs if no reboots
4) report findings.
Test Case 2
1) Test case 1 configuration in place.
2) Remove all wifi points, disable network searching or switching.
3) Manually select carrier from Settings->Phone-> network.
4) In Network mode select GSM
5) use for at least 8 hrs if no reboots
6) Report findings.
After this we move on to two more test cases.

I have Iphone 4s, and the phone will activate itself again. This I have verified, but when I shall put this onto my phone, so the phone will not approve the newusername and password. How do I get changed Apple ID on my phone so that I get using the new username and password that is verified? Silly to buy a new phone just for this .... The phone is almost three years old. How long can weexpect this to last? I would like an answer as soon as possible ... Thank you very much.

It sounds like your device might be in Activation Lock.  Is it asking your to enter in an Apple ID & password, but only showing you the first letter of the email address and then some dots? Example: j•••••@icloud.com?
If so, do you recognize that email?  Do you have an Apple ID that fits the same format?  If so, then go to www.cloud.com, log in with that Apple ID & password, and see if under Find My iPhone it shows this device.  If so, turn off the device, then remove the device from the list.

I updated my 3gs to 6.1.3 now I can't get mail the phone constantly restarts itself and I can't get it to Restore thanks Apple what can I do?

Im having the same problem, I updated my Iphone 4S to 6.1.3, shortly after that my phone had no audio. It was working fine one minute and then stopped. Was listening to music when sound gave out on me. It wont ring, phone just vibrates even after turning off vibration option. I've tried all the options listed and nothing. My phone has never been jailbroken either. If I connect the earphones is works perfectly. On one of my last calls received, phone's ringtone was heard for about 2 seconds before muting and just vibrating. Ringtone sounded perfect, speakers did not sound damaged.
What else could be done? I've read several post regarding this and it seems like Apple has no solution to this yet. Very dissappointed.

Shut the power clear off, wait a minute or 2 and restart and see if that clears the problem.

  • How can I backup if the backup always gets stopped and the iPhone 4S restarts itself (iOS 8.1.3 12BA466)?`

When I try to do a backup it always starts itself new. My photos and notes are synced but all the other apps not anymore since December. Plus since this weekend it refuses to go on the internet. Since January it restarts itself about 20 times a day. Music takes 30 seconds to loud. And all this despite this was a replacement model from the AppleShop bought just 1.5 years ago. I

Be sure your device is activated on this PC.
Use only Apple branded USB connections.
    Search for iTunes Updates.
An good way for easy backups is the iCloud, but you may need to purchase additional storage to do so.

  • While updating my ipod i noticed that my ipod had froze at the end of it, i then decided to restart it. It began to restart and then the screen went white then restarted itself again and has been on this loop everytime i go to use it. How can i stop this?

Hi, when i was updating my ipod last night i had noticed it had been doing it for a while. I then realised that it had froze so i just thought to restart it. When I did this it restarted normally by having the apple icon appearing, then the screen went white for a few seconds and the ipod then turned off. Before i even touched another button the ipod restarted again and the white screen appeared again and this has been on a continuse loop everytime I touch a button on my ipod since last night. Please tell me that someone knows what to do!!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • N900 Keeps Restarting itself

My First N900 was fine. Then the USB Port fell out. I sent it back to Nokia and they replace it. Since then everyday at least 3 times a day the phone shuts itself down and restart... I cannot stress how much i feel let down by Nokis on this device. I have NEVER used another brand phone but i really fear for the worst...cos this is just too much Grief. Any help/ideas..Thanks

How long you are using the device?
Are you using the firmware PR 1.2 ?
Did you downloaded any unsure app from extras - testing or extras-devel?
And did you tried to re-install the firmware using NOKIA SOFTWARE UPDATER ?
Anyway better to try this 1st -
    1) Remove your battery and after 30 secs, turn on the device.
2)backup your files and delete all the things in internal storage. (the storage we use to save movies and stuff)
3)Go to settings and clear the device by "clear device"
4)After auto restarting , re-install the firmware using Nokia Software Updater
That the best thing you can do before go for anything else.
If this isn't working you have to re-flash the device.
    Good luck

  • We have non admin users on Windows 7. They change the homepage and it works for that session. When they close the browser, and restart it again the default homepage is shown.

    Windows 7 Sp3. Using Firefox 7.01
    Non admin users.
Can change homepage to whatever they like and it will work.
BUT when they close firefox and open it again the home page goes back to default setting

    Update.
    This looks to be a mozilla.cfg setting. If I take out the pref("browser.startup.homepage","ourwebpage");
it loads the basic firefox "FirstPage"
How do I get around adding a default homepage that can be changed by the user?
    I have tried adding
defaultPref.. .. then the webpage info.. BUT it retrurns a Failed to read the configuration file. Please contact your system administrator.
Do I need to create a prefs.js file?
And if I do how do I get it to work for each new user that logs into that machine?

  • Brand new iPod touch restarts itself all the time

Hello, my dad just came home from Japan, with a brand new iPod touch.
I managed to register it in iTunes, but when i updated the firmware i got an error message. I tried again and i think that i succeed. Then i started to sync music and the rest of the stuff. The syncing stopped after a minute, and when i tried to navigate on my iPod i realised that the touch screen didn't respond. So after several attempts, i made a hard reset.
But now, the iPod touch restarts itself. The Apple logo comes up, and then the screen turns off in a dramatical way, and then the Apple logo comes up again. If i hard reset my device again, the process continous.
I sometimes the iPod shows the "charge battery" screen, and then I can charge the battery. BUT after 5 minutes, the iPod touch starts restarting itself again. :S
Does anyone have a solution to this? Extremely strange.

I suspect you have a hardware problem. Probably a non-functioning battery (over or under) and causing a hardware reset. Bring it to an Apple Store for replacement.

  • IPad Air restarts itself when switching the apps

I'm very disappointed. I bought my iPad Air in January, the first day I bought it, it already have the restarting problem. I went to the retail store last week, asked them if they can fix it , they checked it and said it's merely a bug and they fixed it. However, the restarting problem happened again right after the day. So I went there again. This time all they did was reset my iPad , which I can just do it at home by myself. But alright, as long as they can fix the problem. But no, my iPad restarted itself again, just couple minuets ago. What's wrong with apple? And by the way, for people who haven't buy the new Smart Cover yet, DO NOT BUY IT.

It's happen again - aftewr 1 or 2 weeks after reseting Network settings - the same issue appear: not able to connecct and wifi and Settings - Wifi screen doesn't appear (Settings is freezing on previous screen).
The only solution: to restart my iPad.
    Any hints?

  • Macbook Restarts itself at completely random times. Obtained log

My brand new macbook automatticly restarts at completely random times. I took it to the apple store and they weren't able to get the macbook to restart itself by having it run at 100% capacity. After the last restart I went straight to console and copied everything that was in there at the time of the crash. Here it is below. Also to note, this has happend both while off, and on the charger. And also not while running any specific programs. I MAY have been running safari through all these. But it has also always been while I was at the computer. If I were to leave it on, every single time I come back the programs would still be running.

  • ArchLinux causes the router to restart

    Hello!
I don't know what exactly, but something causes the router to disconnects and restarts. And dhcpcd fails after reboot.
I'm having this problem since some iso releases. Like 5 or 6 months ago.
Well, I download the ISO, I dd it to a memory stick, and boot a PC with it. Everything goes fine, I do whatever I want. But after a while the router loses Internet connection and it does not accept any device to connect. Then, I reboot the PC, and dhcpcd@<whatever>fails. It doesn't matter if it's a wireless or wired connection. To get a connection, I restart the router (turn it off and on). But the router continuously restarts itself if I continue using the ArchLinux machines.
(To get the router working again, I disconnect any ArchLinux running machine and restart the router)
Because of that I thought it was the router, but I tried with other router (at another place) with my laptop, and I got the same result. The router restarts and everything. So I thought It was my laptop. I tried with another computer (a desktop) and I got the same result. Then I said "Maybe it's the memory stick", so I tried with other one... the same result. To be sure of that, I used other distro (LMDE) on those PC's with the same memory stick and different routers. Everything worked fine.
I've searched this issue on the forum and the Bug Tracker, but I don't find this exact problem. Or maybe I didn't get it because of my English. If this post is duplicated, or it's submitted on the bug tracker, I apologize and will be thankful for someone to redirects me. If is not, here are the PCs' specs and command outputs: (all using 2014.02.01 installation media)
If other command output (or output filtering) is necesary, please let me know.

    Hi!
Well, I turned off the WiFi physical switch, turned on the computer and then I did:
    sudo systemctl disable NetworkManager
    sudo systemctl disable dhcpcd
    sudo systemctl disable netctl
I'm not sure if that's enough.
Then I rebooted the machine, connected the ethernet cable, and:
    [me@there ~]$ sudo dhcpcd
    dhcpcd[520]: version 6.1.0 starting
dhcpcd[520]: no interfaces have a carrier
dhcpcd[520]: forced to background, child pid 639
I ping Google, and I could reach it, but I could not connect some other device. Then:
    [me@there ~]$ sudo dhcpcd -x
    dhcpcd[742]: sending signal 15 to pid 639
dhcpcd[742]: waiting por pid 693 to exit
    Again:
    [me@there ~]$ sudo dhcpcd
    dhcpcd[746]: version 6.1.0 starting
    dhcpcd[746]: wlp3s0: up_interface: Operation not possible due to RF-kill
    dhcpcd[746]: enp2s0: rebinding lease of 192.168.1.70
    dhcpcd[746]: wlp3s0: waiting for a carrier
dhcpcd[746]: no interfaces have a carrier
    dhcpcd[746]: enp2s0: soliciting a DHCP lease
    dhcpcd[746]: timed out
dhcpcd[746]: forced to background, child pid 868
And, just to be sure, ping returned "unknown host".
After a while, the router restarted.
I also looked for a newer firmware for my router, but I couldn't find one, nor the manufacturer home page.
And I have thought like that, fukawi2, ArchLinux is so Up-To-Date, other things may fail.
I can request a new router to my ISP, but I may encounter this issue again when I use my laptop somewhere else.

  • My 4th gen iPod Touch keeps restarting itself then crashing.

My iPod died a few days ago, so I plugged it in as usual. When it started charging, it restarted itself. Nothing out of the ordinary. But then it crashed.
The first time it crashed it had gone to a blank black screen for a while, then went to a staticky white page, then shut down.
I did not press any buttons, but it tried to restart itself again. The same thing happened.
After a few times of doing that, it successfully got to the lock screen. Everything looked normal, so I went to plug in my password. It crashed again and started doing the same thing.
The next time it got to the lock screen, I attempted to disable it. It worked. When I went back to putting my correct password in, it crashed again.
    PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!
(P.S. My iPod will be 3 years old in April, so I am ready to buy a new one if it is necessary)

When you connect the i-touch to your computer do you notice the "Other" portion of the space on your itouch may be over .5gb?
The average space for the "Other" portion is roughly less then .5 GB ... Its the yellow bar in i-tunes when your i-touch is connected ... I had the same issue where the "Other" portion of my i-touch 4 was reading like 5.5 GB, I did some research and found that that space is actually not free space at all, its actually full of left over files and such.
The way to decrease the size is to back up what you have, and restore it.  then reinstall all the apps and music and videos.  You will notice all that yellow bar is almost gone, and you will have a lot more space!

  • N97 keeps restarting itself and turning itself off...

    Hi everyone,
A few months ago I bought an N97 from England and I have some very annoying bugs and a few questions I’d like to ask.
First of all, the phone keeps restarting itself (it is now up to 5 times a day if not more!!!), and at night it even turns itself off (I mean I wake up in the morning and the phone is off).
The other bug is that I cannot exit applications through the “open apps” menu (which is accessed by long-pressing the menu button). When I try to exit an application through there the phone crashes.
I did hard reset, soft reset, formatted E drive (each of those several times btw) and none of this helped. I took it to the nokia care center (the only one in Israel BTW!) and they said that they’ve never heard of those problems and it shouldn’t happen, so they reinstalled my firmware. After that didn’t work, I came back to them and they tried reinstalling the firmware again (they thought something maybe went wrong last time) and that didn’t work either. So I gave them my phone and they had it for 2 weeks during which they tried solving the problem themselves (not sure If that’s true) and after they failed, they sent it to the nokia factory\manufacturer lab in Israel (or at least that’s what they told me). In the first few days everything seemed ok and the phone did not restart itself (that menu bug was still happening) but after less than a week the phone restarted itself again. So I called them and they said it’s probably a bug in the V20 software and they reported it to nokia head quarters in Finland (yeah right…). Anyways… the “restarting itself” bug frequency was decreased substantially for a while, but now it’s back to restarting itself several times a day and turning itself completely off at night (it even happened to me during the day once or twice already-which never happened before).
I’ve read that hundreds (if not thousands) of other N97 owners have those problems too but I couldn’t find a solution. Anyone have any ideas???
Now… during my search in different forums I searched the one in the nokia Israel website and I accidently came across a replay that said that the “exit an app through the open app menu” bug only happens when the phone language is set to Hebrew! And guess what?! HES RIGHT! I changed the language of my phone to English and I have successfully exited the music player through the “open app” menu without the phone crashing! WHAT THE FU** IS GOING ON?! As I said, I’ve came across many other users who have this bug and they obviously don’t have Hebrew on their phone. How does that make any sense?!. Although I have no problem with English I’m more comfortable with my phone language being set to Hebrew since I got used to the buttons locations and now they are all “backwards” which is really annoying! (for example just now I wanted to put a call on loudspeaker but hung up because the 2 buttons have now switched sides).
Anybody knows anything about those bugs and\or how to fix them?!
Now… I would like to ask something:
I’ve noticed that my C drive only has 35MB of free memory. So I went into “memory details” and I see that 12MB is taken by “SIS applications” and 25MB (!!!) is taken by “other files”. I should mention that I put all my files and install all my apps on the E drive when given the choice (only apps from ovi store don’t give you that choice).
Is there any way I can see which applications and files (if it’s even possible for individual files) are installed on C so I can delete some of them? When I go to “phone memory” through “file manager” and I manually open all the folders there (games, images, installed files, nokia, other, sound files and all those), they are all empty. I mean I have a few files on C but they are some sort of text files and they weigh pretty much nothing… most of the folders are completely empty (some have 1 or 2 of those text files). Please help me!
Since I’m already posting this message, anybody knows anything about V21?! Ive read about some update that’s coming out on the 28th, but when I asked nokia care about V21 they said they don’t know anything about it. Anybody has any information regarding V21?
    Thank you!

    1. Did this start shortly after you installed a particular application?
-no. in fact, just to make sure, after the nokia people re-installed my firmware (which deleted everything from the C drive) i formatted the E drive and did not install anything to see if it still happens. sure enough after 2 days, the phone restarted.
    2. Did this start after a firmware update?
-yes. it never happened before the V20 version. (or at least i havent noticed that it happened).
    3. Have you tried reinstalling the firmware through Ovi/PC suite?
-this is how i installed it the first time. altough everyone says its bad and you shouldnt do it and you should go to the nokia center and they will do it for you.
about this... i dont understand why nokia is giving us a tool to update our software for free... but then say "you shouldnt use that tool. go to your nokia care center and they will do it for you" which wastes valuable time and money (not surprisngly... my warrenty doesnt apply in Israel so i have to pay for that kind of stuff). nokia is the biggest cellphone company in the WORLD! why cant they give an international warrenty?!
*any idea why the "exit an app through open app menu" bug is only happening when the phone language is set to hebrew?! i mean thats very bizzare...
*so the update on the 28th is not the full V21 i understand...? will it atleast fix the self restarting and self turning off problem?! i mean i can handle not exiting an app through the menu (unless an app gets stuck and then its just annoying because you cant close it). but i cannot have a phone which turns itself off and restarts itself... that is just ridiculous.

  • Application hidden by Finder won't show itself again?

Short version of my problem: an application that was open and running, and was hidden by me via the Finder, now won't show again. It's icon in the dock still shows the little black triangle, so I'm assuming that it's still open and running, but is this true? And how can I get the application to show itself again?
Now for the details: the application in question is Bryce 6.0, a fairly new app but I've had no problems with it up to now. I've also been using Bryce since version 4, about 5 years, so am quite familiar with it. For those who don't know, it's a low-end 3D landscape program. It's one of those apps that automatically take over your full screen, so if you ever need to access the Finder for anything, you have to 'Hide Bryce' via the Finder menu. I've done this many times before with no problems.
I'm currently rendering a complicated 3D scene, and it's going to be a long render, lasting several days. This is for a commercial project I'm working on, for which I have a deadline. Time is tight, so I really need to know NOW how to fix this. I need to know if the application is still rendering, because if it's not, I need to restart the render. I'd rather not do this if I can help it, as it would mean I've just lost 2 days of rendering time.
I suspect that the rendering may just be so system intensive that it can't find the power to reveal itself, but I may be wrong, and I still need to see what's happening anyway.
No other application seems affected, other items in my dock open OK.
I've tried clicking on the icon in the dock, and when the little window pops up, clicking on 'Show': nothing happens. I've tried going to the Finder menu and clicking on 'Show All', and it doesn't show. I've no other apps open (except Safari right now, of course): I've tried closing everything else, but it hasn't helped.
If I restart, I lose the render I'm doing, which is a MAJOR setback. I won't be able to continue from where I left off, but will have to start again from the very beginning.
    Can anyone please help?
I'm using a PowerMac G4 Digital Audio 733MHz, with an extra 100GB hard drive, 1.25GB RAM, and an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB graphics card. OSX 10.4.7
    G4 Digital Audio   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Hi Michael, thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it!
    Recent hangs = 0.
Hiding the Finder/hiding others doesn't reveal Bryce. I just see my desktop.
I can kind of understand how it might be using too much power to reveal itself, which seems to make a weird kind of sense. But on the other hand, it had no problem showing itself before I hid it. If I hadn't needed to do some searching in the Finder for some other files, I'd never have hidden it...
