While I like some of the thinking behind the new interface, it looks like it was drawn by a 5 year old child who was only allowed to have thick crayons. I HATE the way that I cannot enlarge the layers panel in the main editor*, the way the tool icons are double stacked on the left and the midtone gray background. For those reasons alone I will continue to use Elements 9, even though I have paid good money for 11.
except by clicking layers icon in the bottom tool bar, which erases all the other tool windows you had open, so you have to use the window drop down menu to get them back.
Frankly, it's crap.

Photoshop's User Interface brightness

Hi there,
could anyone try to explain to me why all the other applications from Adobe (concretely from the Production Premium bundle) have the sweet ability to darken their user interface, but Photoshop doesn't?
Photoshop is THE ONLY application that's missing the sweet slider to darken/brighten the user interface. I just discovered that even Illustrator CS4 has this ability, Premiere does, After FX does, so, what's the point? Why can't I darken Photoshop a bit? I think it's a bit more crucial to darken the UI in Photoshop than it is in Illustrator, as you're more likely to perform very sensitive color corrections in Photoshop and anything bright stands in your way, which is BAD!
I hope a soon-to-be-released patch will fix this.

thanks for the tip, I use the same technique, I was just really almost shocked when I discovered that even Illustrator has this sweet slider to adjust the user inteface brightness.
I'm amazed that such a key photo editing software wouldn't have this feature. Like Lightroom, that's almost completely black, why can't we tune down Photoshop's UI brightness?
Don't get me wrong, CS4 is ways better than CS3 even in terms of UI brightness, but still, if the sliders are available in all other Adobe products (Premiere, After FX, Illustrator, Soundbooth and I bet it's in Flash, InDesign and Acrobat...), why isn't the same option in Photoshop?

What OS version? What's the exact error? Exactly when does the error occur? What previous versions? What is on the screen when the error displays? Does Photoshop get fully open?
Try opening Photoshop holding down Shift key immediately to turn off plug-ins. Lots of good suggestions here: Photoshop: Basic Troubleshooting steps to fix most issues

I have moved my Photoshop CS5 to my traveling computer,a Surface Pro 3. I have photoshop loaded but in trying to look at raw images it says my camera raw does not support the sony alpha 65 which is what I have. I went out and tried to download the newest raw version and even went out and did a zipfile download and it will not update my current version. What should I do

I have 6.0. Tried to download newest verion and it will not download. Went out and then downloaded a zipfile and it still will not download, thus cannot look at my raw pictures.

Is your laptop running Windows XP, windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1? If so then I suggest download a tool that will retrieve the serial number from the old laptop which you can use it on your new machine. The tool is called:
Belarc Advisor
It can be downloaded from here:

Install this and then run it by double clicking on its icon and then wait for about 5 minutes while it generates all the info about your machine and software keys.

Has anyone seen the TestStand 3.5 User Interface disappear during testing?

The user interface disappeared while a test sequence was executing. The Windows Task Manager showed LabVIEW (8.2) and TestStand running but nothing was present on the taskbar for TestStand and the window could not be found. This has only happened once but I am being pressed to explain this hence the question.

I am thinking of getting one of the new macs that comes with OS X 10.7 (lion) --can I load my Photoshop CS 2 program on this new computer?

Adobe currently supports CS5, and CS2 for Mac relied on and worked on older Macs (pre switch to Intel) so no.

I love the new WEB UI builder interface and design

I absolutely love the "NEW" Web UI builder user interface. I wish they would make this the NORM for the LabVIEW environment. I love the WPF style control cutomization. I love the way it is laid out and how "EASY" it is to use. Everything is right in front of you. No right clicking to get this menu or that menu. I love the Ribbon on the top. Form layout is MUCH nicer and easier
OK LabVIEW developers lets get this for the regular LabVIEW Environment. The new controls for 2011 are a step in the right direction as far as the look and feel of the UI but the LabVIEW environment is YEARS behind other developement environments UI capability.

And the catch is that it's still an Early Access Release. From the Web UI Builder FAQ:
"The term Early Access Release is a term NI uses to communicate that the initial version of new NI software has one or more caveats associated with it that potential customers should consider, and that the product is targeted at early adopters. For example, features that many customers might expect could be absent, or the usability of the product may be lacking."
In other words, there's even more to come!

New Gargage Band User - Interface Suggustion

Hey everyone,
Is the following link a decent interface for recording my strat in garage band?

+I have the Stealthplug with Amplitube Live and XGear. Highly recommend it. Even with the limited versions of the amps, there's really quite a lot you can do with it. I've used the Amplitube amps along side the ones in Garageband (note the plug/chord part of the set up works very well with the regular GB amps too). So, I recommend it. I will say that the limited, though good, selection of the Amplitube Live gear, it leaves wanting to buy Amplitube2 (the full version).+
+What's cool is that when you load a new track in GB, you would select Amplitube just like you would a track effect and Amplitube is then active in your GB environment but you can still have the Amplitube interface open to tweak what you like from those amps/cabs and effects.+
To add, the Amp sims are pretty good and I like them better than the one in GB but I've found that I do a mix and match with the Amplitube Amps and the GB amps for different textures. Painfully easy to use. Plug in, grab the sim and start going. Another cool thing is the Almplitube/XGear program can be used as a standalone program to just play or practice or even twiddle with amps. It has an on board tune and even a little feature for learning songs when you can load an elec file of a song and pick sections to loop to learn them while playing along.
You get quite a lot for $100. I don't regret spending a single penny.

After migrating a windows 7 machine using ADMT Group policy shows the the computer is from the new domain but user is from old domain

We have migrated machines using ADMT tool but we have found some window 7 machines Group policy issues. We see that the computer GP is getting from the new domain but the users profile still has the old domain GP information. Any help on
removing the old GP objects and forcing the new domain User policy would be great. We have tried the basic troubleshooting gpupdate /force reboot etc.

Sorry for the delayed response.
First, please verify whether these domain users you mentioned belong to old domain or new domain.
If they belong to old domain the GP is right with no problem. If they belong to new, try following suggestions.
Please test these steps in one of the problematic computer. If it worked, then go on for others.
To avoid unexpected problems, please backup your register keys before following steps:
Open regedit.exe, and delete following keys:
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft Key (looks like a folder).
HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft Key.
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy Objects Key.
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies key
Exit the registry and restart.
Note: HKLM = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE & HKCU = HKEY_CURRENT_USER

Thanks for the details. Based on your description, you might need to change or update the SID for users. Try identity command to change the username if you never use the new username in TFS. Check this page for more information about
identities command in this
page.
You can also check the table "tbl_Identity" in the tfs_configuration database to see if the new user exists, or it has the old user. Another option is have a check on other machines to see if it works fine. Refer to links below for more information:
