The older version of bonjour

Uninstalled Itunes - and tried to reinstall Itunes, issue persisted.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

The older version of Bonjour can not be removed
When installing Itunes, the following error messages appear:
1) The older version of Bonjour can not be removed. Contact your technical support group.
2) Itunes installation has been interrupted, please try again later (or something similar).
As a home user, I have no technical support group so I am turning to you, discussion followers, for assistance. I removed Quicktime, Itunes, Bonjour, and all other apple software according to the removing and reinstalling Itunes article. I used CCleaner to remove traces of the programs in the registry. When reinstalling, Quicktime installs successfully, but Itunes installation stops with the error messages above. I have deleted the temp folder, updated windows, used selected startup before installing, and all attempts end the same way. I'm not sure why I am getting this error, when Bonjour is not on my system to begin with. I appreciate any advice you can offer.1) The older version of Bonjour can not be removed. I have Windows XP, 32 bit version 2002 Svc Pack 2 and when trying to download iTunes 10.5.1 I am getting the following "The older version of Bonjour cannot be removed. Contact your technical support." I've tried a good number of remedies to no avail. Can anyone help?
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you are running 64-bit Windows and the above steps haven't helped try installing the version of iTunes that can be downloaded from this support document. iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
If you still have no luck try reinstalling iTunes 12.0, links in the user tip.

Akeenleyside,
Are you removing your Apple software in an attempt to update to iTunes 10.5? I ask this because I am getting the same message when trying to install iTunes 10.5. -

"the older version of bonjour cannot be removed"
I installed iTunes on my FRESH copy of Win7. Restarted my computer and iTunes went missing. Apparently Bonjour and Quicktime still exist though. I tried reinstalling iTunes got the above error. I managed to remove the entire Program Files\Bonjour folder and it still gives me the error. Removed all Apple folders, Quicktime etc and I STILL get the error!
I downloaded the windows clean up utility and bonjour doesn't show up in the list of programs shown with that either.
Launch CleanUp again. Have a look at the top of the list of programs.
Do you see any entries in there that:
(a) Lack a program name but have an (All Users) followed by a version number in square brackets? If so, what is the version number?
(b) Lack a program number and a version number, and just have (All Users)?
(c) Lack everything ... it's just a blank line?
