The sound on my iPhone 4S cuts out when playing music/podcasts.

The sound on my iPhone 4S cuts out when playing music/podcasts.  If I unplug and replug in the headphones, the sound comes back on, but often for only 20 seconds or so before cutting out again.  Sometimes it will play for 15-20minutes before cutting out.  The track is not "paused", and appears to continue, just no sound.  I tried cleaning the headphone jack with compressed air to no avail.  I also noticed the the same phenomenon occurs when I sync my bluetooth to my car audio.  That is, it will play for a while, then the sound will cut out, even though the track is still shown to be playing.  If I reset the bluetooth, the sound comes back on.
This started happening about a week ago, but no "event" that I can think of caused it.  I didnt' get the phone wet, forcefully drop it, or leave it in extreme heat.  I've tried doing a reset of the phone.  I also was running iOS5 when I first noticed this, and since upgraded to iOS6.  The problem appeared with both.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

One thing that helped was getting a toothbrush and scrubbing the dock connector on the phone.  I scrubbed the connector and used compressed air for about 1/2 hour till the connector looked much cleaner.  An Apple employee told me that the pins on the phone had a little corrosion and sand.  The problem hasn't gone away completely, but has been significantly reduced.  I'm going to hold out until my contract expires after which time I'll switch to an iPhone5 (or newer) or Android phone.

Why is the sound of my new ipad cutting out intermittently and what does Apple recommend to solve the problem in lieu of any updates? All of a sudden without changing any settings, the audio on my NEW ipad cuts in and out on applications/ games, keypad noise and lock sounds. The rocker button only seems to work while the sound is intermittently being heard before, after a few seconds of noise not doing anything when sound goes off.
This is highly frustrating as I've noticed others posting about such issues as far back as April. Anybody had the same thing happen to them? Is this likely software (ios6) or hardware issue? What are the solutions Apple???

Apple has no physical stores of their own in Dubai, so unless you mean that you purchased from the online Apple Store for the UAE, you purchased from a dealer, who may or may not have been authorized. You can check the expiration date of the warranty on your iPad yourself by entering in the serial number here:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
If it does indeed show the warranty has expired, then what you need to do from here will depend on who you purchased the iPad from and when you really did purchase it. Perhaps you actually purchased it in August and are just misremembering? Check your receipt. If you confirm that you did purchase within the last calendar year, tell us exactly where you got it and we can probably offer advice.
    Regards.

    Hello Jm23ur,
After reading your post, it sounds like you are experiencing performance issues with your device. You may want to consider restarting the device first, and then resetting if that does not work. This article provides detailed instructions for Restarting, and Reseting:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
    How to reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

  • My iphone keeps cutting out when i ring people and people cant hear me when i speak what could it be?

when i ring people my iphone keeps cutting out, it connects but i can hear them talking but they cant hear me talking :s

    Hey Ciara,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are having issues with others being able to hear you while on calls, the issue seems to be resolved by using speakerphone. This makes sense, as speakerphone utilizes a different microphone. I would advise you to take a look at the following articles:

  • ITunes 7.6.1 cuts out when played on computer

I've had a 30GB for over 2 years with no problems. About 2 weeks I upgraded iTunes to 7.6.1 and now when I play music on my computer, the music cuts in and out. Time still runs and the music is still playing technically, but nothing is coming out of the speakers. NEVER had this problem before and other audio and video devices do not have this problem. Tried reloading iTunes a few times and have clicked on the repair button, but no change.
I don't want to uninstall/reinstall iTunes because I have a large collection and playlists. My music list is over 70GB and I only have the 30GB iPod, so I leave many songs unchecked to stay within size limit. Short of getting a larger iPod, any way to keep iTunes settings and playlists and reload? I keep my music files on detachable hard drive. Tried moving iTunes there as a backup, but it is only the shortcut that moves, not the actual iTunes itself.

I've ben experiencing the same problem on my MacBook Pro (iTunes 7.6.1), and it's driving me nuts. I suspect that the bug may be rooted in Quicktime rather than iTunes, since the intermittent sound issue rears its ugly head even when playing video clips.
I've taken this to a Mac Genius at the Apple store, and he was dumfounded. If I don't get some resolution soon, I'm likely to snap.

  • The audio on my iPhone 4s cut out randomly; I have to unplug and replug headphones to get it back. How can I fix this?

For the last year I have been unable to use my iPhone speakers because of some bug. I can play music and audio through headphones, but that's it. And just today even the headphones became spotty. I'll play a song (through iTunes) for a while, then the audio will just cut out. I can get it back by unplugging and replugging the headphones (sometimes multiple times) but that fix doesn't last long; usually within a few minutes (if not much sooner) the music cuts out again.
I really don't want to buy a new one because this one otherwise works fine. How can I fix this?

  • Quick Time 10 Intermittent Cut-Out When Playing WMV Files?

    Hi guys!
Hoping for a little help with this one... I was in class today delivering a lecture and was playing some advertisements that I had on my Desktop (.wmv files), and initially things were fine. Then, one by one, as I played a clip, there would be frequent, intermittent cut-outs. I am running Flip 4 Mac, in case that may be an issue?
Is it worth deleting Flip and Quick Time and seeing how things go? any help would be greatly appreciated!

"initially things were fine. Then, one by one, as I played a clip, there would be frequent, intermittent cut-outs. I am running Flip 4 Mac, in case that may be an issue? "
Sometimes a simple restart or repairing permissions and restarting the computer will cure those types of hiccups.
Are you using the latest version of Flip4Mac?

  • My Macbook speakers cut off when playing music/videos

Hey, I'm new to the boards but have last generations macbook (all black).
All my system and software updates are up to date.
When I play music in itunes the song continues to play but the music cuts out. I thought it was just itunes but when I tried playing a video in imovie, the same thing happened.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm experiencing the same problem. My speakers pop lightly - kind of static-like - and when I play music in iTunes or a video, on YouTube for example, the sound cuts in and out. This JUST started happening about 3 days ago. Frustrating.

  • Iphone 4s cuts out when talking.

when talking on my phone, the person on the other end only hears parts of what i've said...i have a full signal.

If you have a protective case on the phone, either ensure that the top microphone next to the headset jack is not covered or remove the protective case completely.
If you have installed a protective film on the display, either ensure that the receiver is not covered or remove the film completely.
Check the receiver mesh; if it appears blocked, use a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush to carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If the audio issue happens only in one location, try another location.
    Try restarting the iPhone.
If restarting the iPhone didn't resolve the issue, update to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue persists, visit the iPhone Support Page for more troubleshooting and service information.

  • Does the adapter for my iPhone 5 allow me to play music on my old docking stations?

I have had my 5 for awhile now, and have been using the adapter for charging purposes.  However, I just recently tried plugging it into a music dock and can't seem to get it to work.  Does the adaptor allow me to use my old accessories, or is Apple making me buy all new equipment?  What about car hookups?

If you are refering to an Apple (genuine ) adapter then I use several ,in car
and where the device has a 30 pin plug (as in Bose sound Docks ) also.
Not had any problems or issues at all
BUT I have only used the genuine Apple product  both the standard and the 0.2m version

  • The sound on my iPhone isn't working I tried putting headphones in and it worked, but as soon as I take th out and the sound countinues playing the sound stops help please

The sound on my iPhone isn't working I don't understand why it was working fine an hour ago I haven't dropped it or anything simply just out it on silent... The music I was trying to listen to didn't want to make a sound when I turned it in , I put a pair of headphones in and and it worked as soon as I took it off it completely stopped the music was playing still I could see it in the top column that  the play button was on ... Then I made a call an the same thing happened I turned it on speaker and then I could hear them... The sound is completely off even tho i looked at the seettings and put the volume on high noting is sounding on its own not even when i tap the buttons... I took it off the silent before I tried this stuff I don't understand please help !!!

make sure that your head phones are not attached to the phone then use the volume buttons on the side, if when using them you see a pic of headphones on the screen, then you have some lint in the headphone jack, use some compressed air and blow it out.
If you dont see that then try to reset the phone, hold down the home and power buttons for 20 seconds or untill you see the silver apple.
If you are still having a problem restore the phone and set up as new to see if that clears it up.

It should remain the way you have adjusted them.  Delete the System Preferences.plist per these instructions:

  • The sound on my iPhone 4S isn't working. When headphones are plugged in you can listen to music an watch videos but when you take the headphones out the option to adjust volume goes away and you can't hear music or videos. Any idea how to fix this?

Today I tried listening to music on my iPhone 4S, only to find that my volume adjuster had disappeared. And just to clarify, when I say that it disappeared, I mean that when I press the volume buttons on my phone, I see the speaker icon but the gauge bar is gone. I can't hear music or watch videos

  • Apple TV audio cuts out when its the output device

    Guys,
I have a 2011 iMac and select AppleTV in my output devices, play some tunes from iTunes or Spotify, and it will play for a while but it will eventually start cutting out and eventually drop completely.  Instead of rebooting, I have to run the command
    sudo kill `ps -ax | grep 'coreaudiod' | grep 'sbin' |awk '{print $1}'`
to restart the core audio service.
Is this an AppleTV issue or a router issue?  My AppleTV is plugged into my Asus router via ethernet.  My iMac uses wireless as well as my iPhone and iPad.  The issue is still present when using airplay with my wireless devices.   The audio will start sounding glitch-y, then completely cut out.  Annoying when trying to enjoy music on the porch.
    Appreciate any input!

Also, I had never seen iTunes show this orange status color in iTunes...
