The time needed to reload index is longer in ICM compare to RFC.

Hi All,
Do you have the same experience in your company ??
Since we upgrade our system to SPS 18 than we need to change our communication manager to ICM from RFC.
Than we do a compare through different server with different SPS and communication manager.
Server A => Uses SPS 13 and RFC
Server B => Uses SPS 18 and ICM .
When we finish doing index reloading, we compare the time to reload the index, and it's different.
RFC is faster.
My Questions are what the factor that can make ICM longer than RFC ? Is that any common way that we can do to tune up the ICM ?
Thanks a lot and have a good day.
Best regards,
Daniel N.

Hi Daniel,
please check TA TREXADMIN -> click on TREX ABAP Customizing
here you can check some ICM parameters and can do a net performance test.
Have you already tried to trace this connection via SMICM?
You can also do some checks and settings with the trex standalone tool; tab 'connectivity'
Best Regards,
Jens

  • How to estimate the time needed for unicode conversion

    Experts:
I am going to perform an upgrade from 46C (non-unicode) to ECC6/EHP4.
In the action plan , it's hard to estimate the time needed for unicode conversion.
We do not have a sandbox to benchmark that time.
Could you please help share your experience here?
    Thanks!!

    Hi,
usually it is very hard to estimate a proper time.
There are some hints to get a rough feeling (SAP note 857081 and [SMP link|http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000380759&_OBJECT=011000358700001279022010E] ).
However please note that SAP highly recommends to do a Sandbox conversion - otherwise there is a high risk that the PRD conversion will take (much) longer than expected.

  • SLOW ibook, HD working all the time, need diagnosis !

    Hello !
I need comments and thoughts. I experience problems that might relate to this thread : (ie hard drive failure, than replacement) http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1045960&tstart=75
Symptoms begun lightly, thant increased so i cannot identify one cause. The ibook is now just impossible to work with, for example, booting can take 10 to 20 min, opening an app can take two or three min, and there are delays for real simple actions (opening a folder, closing a window, scrolling in the dock...). everything takes time, delays, freezes and spinning beachball.
Meanwhile, once i openened and work with in an application (Word for ex), it's ok.
The HD makes noises just like it's working all the time, swapping files, or just as if i had a great resource consuming task in the background. I'm not skilled enough to read Activity Monitor for the disk usage, but the CPU and RAM both look ok.
Of course, i thought the HD's in trouble so here's what i remember having done yet :
    • Maintenance scripts, repair permissions (very long), zapping PRAM, PMU, etc... usual stuff, many times
    • Fsck or "repair disk" are long, but don't tell any problem ; SMART status is verified, free space on the disk is almots 20 Go
    • Running tech tool deluxe, from "apple protection plan" wich sees nothing
    • Archive and install (problems still here even if slightly better for some time)
    • Clean install with total HD erase (same comment)
    • Boot without Ram and airport card
    That's where i'm at. I have two questions :
    • Would it be good to get Apple Hardware Test (my version is too old), and running it in loop mode ? what about diskwarrior ?
    • Could it be something else than a hard drive problem ?
Thanks a lot for your help and clues !
ps : anyway, i'm getting to the idea that i have to buy a new book. Also, i think i'll give up buying second-hand macs, from now on
    cheers
    Ben

    Benjamin,
    *Check your console messages.*
One contributing problem I've noticed is the growth of operating systems as we patch them. Mine loads quickly, but desktop operations have a 5 to 10 second response time. It loads quickly because the 5 GB free is contiguous, offering plenty of room for swap files, usually about 5 Mb each. Its response time is presumably slow because it is swapping processes rather than paging.
I don't know at what amount of free space MacOSX switches from efficient paging to disk to slow swapping of whole processes to disk. However, it's unlikely you have 20 GB of free space.
When I once had 7.5 GB of free space, the computer stopped. The console told me I hadn't sufficient contiguous freespace to create a new 5 MB (MB not GB!) swap file. (Swap files have to be contiguous.) Your computer may be swapping rather than paging. This I can easily imagine if you upgraded operating systems by modifying the previous (as Apple suggests), and applied all its patches (needed for security). Apple warns this will happen if you create & delete movies.
Booting shouldn't take 10 or 20 minutes on a damaged hard drive, it should stop at the first sign of damage. I can probably imagine it taking that long reading files whose pieces are scattered, and executing startup and OS files that need a large amount of virtual memory.
It's likely that Word, made by Microsoft, violates acceptable civil behavior and takes excessive real memory, minimizing disk swapping.
    What is puzzling is the
    • Clean install with total HD erase (same comment).
That should have cured any disk fragmentation, unless it was a fast backup and restore of a disk image, which doesn't defragment files as it reads & writes them.
Here's how to check for excessive disk fragmentation:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console and read its messages;
    2. Open /Utilties/Disk Monitor and examine the Disk Activity graph for a while.
    a. If it spikes regularly, it's likely a background application of your doesn't respect your power saver. Remove these one-by-one to find the problem one & write the company. You want your drive to sleep when possible.
    b. To the point, if the curve stays near the top all the time, the virtual memory of ordinary programs, which should normally happily stay put in 20 GB of space are all competing for the contiguous spaces between tiny files. This is like a children's game we play, called 'musical chairs'.
Further, the memory manager is running full speed (using CPU time and real memory, exacerbating the problem). When more time is spent looking for space for swap files than writing them, we say the disk is 'thrashing'. The disk then makes the sound yours does, and the computer does almost nothing useful.
    c. Just an idea, but 'Disk Utility' lets you create 'disk images', empy files of any size you request. (I may have modified mine to do this.) If your disk is severely fragmented, the maximum size file you can create may be small. This is just a sufficient condition for fragmentation, not a necessary one.
    d. Install this in Utilities and run it:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27329
It measures the degree of file fragmentation on any drive.
    *Possible Solution*
If excessive fragmentation is the problem, various commercial utilities will defragment your drive. However, I never use commercial utilities, so I run the shareware iDefrag.
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/25411
This is now US$ 30. Though you can run an algorithm that would fix excessive fragmentation from the boot disk, it's normal to install it on a CD (which they provide a program for). If you install it on your second computer as well, so you can place yours in Target Disk Mode, threats appear that give 'termination' a new meaning.
Others will tell you that the advanced HFS+ filesystem doesn't need defragmenting. It is true that on a G3 iBook, defragmenting files and optimizing their order will not speed up the machine if it has many, large, unfragmented freespaces: the speed bottleneck is elsewhere. (It will greatly speed a G4 Mac.) However, defragmentation is eventually necessary to create these freespaces.

  • Chart pages slip rapidly to the right all the time. Have reloaded MT4.

I use the MT4 Trading Platform for trading Currencies The Pages are not stable, and a small icon wrapped round the cursor appears , momentarily sometimes, exactly like a Slide mechanism in the centre of a file holding pages , which you slide to release the metal strip holding the pages together.. It has 2 tiny arrows on it above and below the cursor pointer. I have no idea where the little icon comes from.Sometimes I can halt the rapid slide, but only after it has raced about 4 Pages to the right.
I have downloaded a fresh MT4 Platform as instructed by my Broker but the problem persists. Since it began, at least 2 months ago I have downloaded a fresh Firefox, but that didn't cure it.

Try to disable auto-scrolling in case you are activating this feature by accident.

  • Time, more taken in index creation

when i create an normal index on one column or an composite index on 3-4 columns on a table having say 9-10 million records, the time is too much, i did it in our test database & it too upto an hour to create the index. Please help in explaining, why it is taking so much time.
    regards.

Well it depends what you consider the time should be. Indexing a table of 10m records is going to take time but to speed things up a bit you could specify NOLOGGING in the index creation script, you should take a backup afterwards though.

  • When downloading from my laptop to GPS, the time taken causes my computer to eject the transfer because it has extended beyond the setting in the computer. This has happened before when trying to update the GPS and that time a Apple technician instructed

I'm try to update my GPS. I download the new info for the GPS to the laptop. Then I connect the GPS the laptop and start the download to the GPS. But this can take hours to transfer. Because the time needed is beyoun what the computer is program, so the connection is ejected. I've been thru this one other time while updating the GPS and it was than the an Apple technitian told me how to disable the auto eject because of the set time limit.

You can sync them via your computer's iTunes : connect the iPad to your computer and select it in your computer's iTunes, and then select its Photos tab :
And on that tab select the folder that the photos that you want to copy are in and sync/apply that selection to your iPad.
To remove the photos from the Photos app you will need to do similar to above, but select and sync an empty folder (you can't delete synced photos directly in the Photos app, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync).
Or you could email them to yourself and use 'open in' in the Mail app to copy them to the Photos app

  • All value not showing at the time of J1INCHLC - Create Remittance Challan

    Hi,
I am facing following problem in TCS
I am trying to process TCS Remittance Challan with T.code J1INCHLC, but all document No. not showing at the time of challan process, I checked entry in TCS GL, Table BSEG & WITH_ITEM all document showing properly. Section code also showing in line item.
I checked some document process with same material & same customer. But only few entries showing at the time of TCS Remittance Challan process. I also compare both entries which is showing & un-showing but no difference found.
Kindly suggest solution to resolve the issue.
    Sunil

    Hi Sunil
If the entires are there in WITH_ITEM and with Section codes, then it should appear in J1INCHLC. Please check other things like the date ranges you are entering in J1INCHLC. Also try by putting the document number which is missing instead of posting date range and fine out whether is it appearing. If you are able to get it, then you would be in a position to find out why it is not appearing.

  • Problem in retreiving the time from the table

I have stored time in varchar2 format but in forms in order to enable a button i have to compare the time, for that I have used to_char(sysdate,'HH24') as : is not working. How to retreive the time in its exact format/?

    Hi,
When you compare the Date and Time Fields which of varchar Type, we will get undesirable results.
Always, Trying Store date in DATE Type.
As, you are using stroed in Character type,
    Just try something like this,
    SELECT TO_DATE ('23:00:00', 'HH24:MI:SS')
      FROM DUAL;Which displays the
    Date
6/1/2012 11:00:00 PMThe better way is to convert your varchar2 type to date format and check against it.
    Thanks,

  • After installing Lion my time machine using a Time capsule backups take a very long time, particularly indexing the back up, does any one know why and a fix?

I have installed Lion over Snow Leopard and noticed a marked increase in the time it takes my time capsule/time machine to back up.  It seems to spend a very long time indexing the back up.  Does any one know why and more importantly is there a "fix"?

The first index with Lion takes a very long time.  Could take over 10 hours.  You just have to wait.  You can see the progress by opening Console and entering backupd in the search box

    c.scb_tp_product, c.scb_tranche_id, c.scb_bncpr_flg

    WHERE i.business_unit = i1.business_unit

...Try to use something like this instead:
    (select * from
    (SELECT c.business_unit, c.fi_instrument_id, c.scb_arm_code,
            c.scb_tp_product, c.scb_tranche_id, c.scb_bncpr_flg,

      WHERE c.business_unit = b1.business_unit
        AND b1.setid = 'PKSTN')
    where rnk = 1) c,
...2. This piece seems to be questionable since it seems to pick the "UPLOAD_DATE" from an arbitrary row where SETID = 'PKSTN'. I assume that the UPLOAD_DATE is then the same for all these rows, otherwise this would potentially return a different UPLOAD_DATE for each execution of the query. Still it's a questionable approach and seems to be de-normalized data.
    (SELECT upload_date - 15 upload_date
    FROM stg_ftp_trans_bal_tb
WHERE setid = 'PKSTN' AND ROWNUM < 2),3. Your execution plan contains some parts that are questionable and might lead to inappropriate work performed by the database if the estimates of optimizer are wrong:
    a. Are you sure that the filter predicate "SETID"='PKSTN' on PS_SCB_BUS_UNIT returns only a single row? If not, below NESTED LOOP operation could scan the PS_FI_IOTHER_R00 table more than once making this rather inefficient

The optimizer assumes that below join returns only 3907 rows out of the 54k and 221k source sets. This could be wrong, because the join expression contains multiple function calls and an implicit TO_NUMBER conversion you haven't mentioned in your SQL which is bad practice in general:
    19 - access("A"."BUSINESS_UNIT"="C"."BUSINESS_UNIT" AND "A"."FI_INSTRUMENT_ID"="C"."FI_INSTRUMENT_ID" AND
"FISCAL_YEAR"=TO_NUMBER(TO_CHAR("UPLOAD_DATE",'YYYY')) AND "ACCOUNTING_PERIOD"=TO_NUMBER(TO_CHAR("UPLOAD_DATE",'MM')))The conversion functions might hide from the optimizer that the join returns many more rows than estimated, because the optimizer uses default selectivities or guesses for function expressions. If you can't fix the data model to use appropriate join expressions you could try to create function based indexes on the expressions TO_NUMBER(TO_CHAR("UPLOAD_DATE",'YYYY')) and TO_NUMBER(TO_CHAR("UPLOAD_DATE",'MM')) and gather statistics on the corresponding hidden columns (method_opt parameter of DBMS_STATS.GATHER_TABLE_STATS call set to "FOR ALL HIDDEN COLUMNS"). If you're already on 11g you can achieve the same by using virtual columns.

    4. Your PLAN_TABLE does not match your Oracle version. If you're already on 10g or later, simply drop all PLAN_TABLEs in non-SYS schemas since there is already one provided as part of the data dictionary. Otherwise re-create them using $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/utlxplan.sql
    Note
    - 'PLAN_TABLE' is old versionIf you want to understand where the majority of the time is spent you need to trace the execution. Note that your statement introduces an increased complexity because it uses parallel execution, therefore you'll end up with multiple trace files per parallel slave and query coordinator process, which makes the analysis not that straightforward.
Please read this HOW TO: Post a SQL statement tuning request - template posting that explains how you can enable the statement trace and what you should provide if you have SQL statement tuning question and how to format it here so that the posted information is readable by others.
This accompanying blog post shows step-by-step instructions how to obtain that information.

  • What could be the reason for Crawl process to take long time or get in to a hung state.

    Hi All,
What could be the reason for Crawl process to take long time or get in to a hung state? Is it something also related to the DB Server resources crunch? Does this lead to Index file corruption?
What should be the process to be followed when index file is corrupted? How do we come to know about that?
    Thanks in Advance.
