The update "Mac OS X Update" can't be saved.  ERROR

Hi,
I have been searching these forums for an answer.
Today I had a pop up informing me that update are available.
Mac OX X Update 10.5.7.286 MB
The 10.5.7 Update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac.
For detailed information on this update, please visit this website: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3397.
For detailed information on security updates, please visit this website: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222.
A few minutes into the update I get the message below.
The update “Mac OS X Update” can’t be saved.
The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by “Apple”.
I click on OK to close the message box and the download stops and the download box closes.
Any suggestion why this is happening.
I am on version 10.5.6 Build 9G55
iMac
iMac6,1
Intel Core 2 Duo

Yes I am getting this error and so I got 10.5.7 from Support Downloads but then there was a Safari Beta 4 update and it did the same thing. I'm a little worried after that because I have already had Software Update probs and had to get a brand new MacBook so keep the answers coming

  • The update "Mac OS X update combined (powerpc)" can't be installed?

I recently upgraded from OS X 10.3.9 to Tiger (10.4.6) and encountered a weird problem. My system is a Dual 1GHz G4 (mirror drive door) with 768 MB RAM.
When I try to launch iTunes, I get an error telling me that "iTunes requires Mac OS X 10.4.7 or later..."
That never happened before, so I assume that the Tiger installation (or a Software Update I was unaware of) sabotaged iTunes by imposing this new requirement.
Now here's the irony: I can't install OS X 10.4.7! When I run Software Update, it tries to install Mac OS X Update Combined (PowerPC) 10.4.10-- but it fails every time with the message:
The update "Mac OS X update combined (powerpc)" can't be installed.
The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by "Apple."
So this seems to be a transmission error, or something wrong with Apple's server. I've tried this repeatedly over the last few days, but nothing changes.
Any suggestions? I tried downloading the installer from Apple's download page, but it results in the same error. Is there perhaps a clean version of 10.4.8 I can download from somewhere?
It's really frustrating not being able to run iTunes because of an OS "upgrade."

Then, stop using Software Update, click the Downloads link at the page's top, and manually download the COMBO update. As for iTunes, apparently you installed a later version. With 10.4.6, your quite a few updates behind: OS, security, iTunes, and QuickTime, just to name a few. Before you update, be sure you make a bootable backup/clone. Details for doing that are in these:

  • The update "Mac OS X Update Combined" can't be saved.

A few days ago my mac ( late 2009 model MacBook pro running lion 10.7.2 ) started freezing, a lot. The freezing seemed to be a problem with osx itself rather than with any particular program. So I initiated software update hoping that there would be an osx update. Low and behold, there was.
Here is the problem.... I can't get it. I have tried twice and both times I get this message
"The update “Mac OS X Update Combined” can’t be saved.
The update could not be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs."
    Any ideas?

Ok this problem has developed somewhat.
My machine has gone from bad freezing spells to being downright broken.
I rebooted the machine and got stuck at login screen.
Rebooted again and didn't get to login screen.
Rebooted again and got logged in but my desktop was unresponsive and then started flashing between the desktop image and a plain grey screen. I did this literally all night (left it over night).
So today I have booted up from an install of lion I have on an external FireWire drive. And all is well. I am trying to backup things like my photo library and other documents so that I can format the internal hard drive and and do a clean install.
I can access the hard drive, see all the files, but when trying to copy it over I get an error message saying
"the finder can't complete the operation because some data in "iPhoto library" can't be read or written ( error code -36 )
Now before anyone screams broken hard drive, the data can be read, because I can view it all in finder. Just can't copy it out to an external drive.
    Please help!!
Oh ps. Before booting from the external I created a new admin account on my machine and booted int that. The freezing problem was the same as in my normal account.

  • The update 'MAC OS X combined' can't be installed.

The hard drive (60 GB Seagate) on my MACBook died last week and I replaced it (250 GB WD). I formatted the new disk (disk utility 'ERASE') and then installed Leopard. It installed successfully without issue.
When attempting to install 'Software Updates', I got an error for all 4 install items. Here is the error message for 1 of the install items:
The update 'MAC OS X combined' can't be installed.
The installer could not validate the contents of the 'MAC OS X combo 10.5.3' package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
    Any help appreciated.

Is this happening when you try to update through 'software update'? Have you tried downloading the files directly and installing yourself?

  • 10.5.3 error: 'The update "Mac OS X Update" can't be saved.'

    Hello,
When I run Software Update (on my iMac - no problems on the MacBook Pro) and try and download the 10.5.3 update I get the following messages in the error window"
*The update “Mac OS X Update” can’t be saved.*
*You do not have appropriate access privileges.*
*The Installer package has been moved to the Trash. To try again, open the package from the Finder.*
I've run "Repair Permissions" and "Verify Disk" several times and there seem to be no problems.
I'd be very grateful if anyone has any ideas what is going wrong!
    Thank you.

  • HELP: The update "Mac OS X Update Combined" can't be saved error -1001

I have a Mac Mini at a vacation town home, so it needs quite a few updates whenever I use it. Everything installed fine except a combined 10.5.6 and 10.5.7 update. Everytime I attempt to download/install it, it will download a few mbs, then stop and give me the error:
*The update “Mac OS X Update Combined” can’t be saved.*
A networking error has occurred: timed out (-1001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again.
My internet never seems to have conked out, as the 'ready' light on my modem is always lit, so where is the problem here?
Thanks in advance for the help.

  • "The Update Mac OS X Update (Power PC) can't be installed" ?

I have had the following problems for a few days now when trying to download and install Mac OS X Update 10.4.10 using the Software Update:
"The update Mac OS X Update (Power PC) can't be installed. The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by Apple. "
    What does this mean?
I am having the same problem when downloading and installing QuickTime using Software Update.
    First generation iMac G5, 1.8MHz 17   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Sound advice, but it isn't uncommon. See http://www.apple.com/support/tiger/install/ for installation details.
    Additionally, see:
    http://www.macattorney.com/ts.html
    http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html and
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/installswupdates.html
for more information on how to backup, not only your data, but your entire HD to another volume/partition/disk so that the backup is bootable. Then, if something hoses the installation, you can revert back to the state you were in before updating.

  • The update "Mac OS X Update" can't be installed.

I get this message after it asks me to restart, and when the bar is moving it randomly stops and gives me this message:
The update "Mac OS X Update" can't be installed.
The Installer could not validate the contents of the 'MacOSCUpd10.5.6' package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
I'm running the update right through the software update screen. It's odd. I have just a two-week old MacBook Pro and can't figure out why I'm receiving this problem.

It's probably a corrupted update. It failed to validate. Nothing to do with your computer. One or more bits in the download are wrong.
I suggest using the download from the apple site:

  • 10.4.8 update "Mac OS X Update (Intel)" Can't be Installed (OR DOWNLOADED!)

    Wow --
This is a first: Software Update reports:
The update "Mac OS X Update (Intel)" Can't be Installed
The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered wit or correupted since being signed by "Apple".
Tried this several times, same message.
So, I tried downloading the stand-alone installers (MacOSXUpd10.4.8Intel.dmg and then MacOSXUpd10-1.4.8Intel.dmg).
Both stand-alone packages downloaded, but got a "verification failed" message in the Safari DOWNLOADS window.
Plenty of hard disk space. Permissions Repaired.
    Any ideas?

    Hello,
These types of errors usually indicate that the download was somehow corrupted or incomplete.
Most commonly, you'll get these when you are on dial-up, and there is line-noise.
But, I've also found some download servers will cause this kind of corruption if they are experiencing trouble at the moment.
I would not worry just yet.
Perhaps try again tomorrow and see if perhaps there is just a server problem. It could be a problem with Apple's server, or any server between you and Apple (such as your ISP).
This happens from time to time. I've even had it happen with small files from other places as well. Even DSL / Cable connections can have poor connections at times.
    I hope this helps.

    Hi,
i'm a new member of this community. I've recently learn about flashback malware and other threats to Mac devices. I've installed the new Mac OS X update for Lion 10.7, and the flashback removal tool. What about the update for Flash Player? Should i install it? Otherwise, should i permanently remove this app?
    I realy need some advice.
    Thank's to all.

Be sure to install the latest version of Safari (version 5.1.7) which is available via Software Update (in the Apple menu) if you have not already installed it. This update will automatically disable older versions of Flash when new versions are available, and will instruct you on how to install the latest version on your system. This should help keep your system safe from any vulnerabilities in Flash.
Note that this is only useful if you use Safari, though other browsers have their own update mechanisms you should research and enable or configure to your liking.

  • When I update Mac OSX and it can not rebot

I got alert from mac website to update mac utility for example quicktime, itune,...and OS X combine intel!? (something like this can't remember exactly name) and after finish install and required me to restart or shutdown so I choose shutdown, then I press the power to restart but it pass the apple symbol and going to the blue screen and stop there, I leave it all night but still blue and tried to restart again and the result the same. I have the same problem like this before (can't reboot) I updated software & firmware (SMC. ?!) the only way I can solve this problem is restore Mac OsX.
    Why it can't reboot?
How to fix it without restore Mac OsX?
If I am not ubdate any thing my computer will be ok for long term?
    Please advise.

    Welcome to the forum.
There are a few things to try.
    1. Using Disk Utility and fsck to resolve startup issues or perform disk maintenance
    2. If that doesn't work, you can try installing the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combo update over the top. It has been known to solve some issues.
    3. If that doesn't work either, and you don't have DiskWarrior to try, you can consider performing an Archive & Install which will preserve your files, applications, etc and give you a fresh installation of OSX.

  • Whats the slowest MAC out there that can run Creative Cloud?

I was wondering what the slowest MAC out there is that can run Creative Cloud?

On the new install with a default Logic Project, kernal_task (activity monitor) shows 600% CPU usage when ideling (no audio or midi playing.
Logic using 600% or total CPU at 600%?
If it's total CPU usage and not Logic itself.. check for a runaway mdworker routine... caused by a spotlight bug thats been longstanding and never totally fixed... Resolve by stopping the MDworker routine and then exclude all drives from spotlight.. and add back in just the system drive. Wait a couple of hours for spotlight to properly reindex the system drive and then test with Logic to see if CPU usage drops down to normal levels...
If it's Logic that is using 600% then something very weird is going on that is specific to your system or install as that simply isn't normal behaviour even with using just the internal hardware and CoreAudio.
