The weight of a 27" iMac without the aluminum stand.
Hey there,
do you know the (approximate) weight of an iMac 27" Quad Core without its aluminum stand?
I REALLY need this information, thanks!
HI,
27-inch iMac
Height:
20.4 inches (51.7 cm)
Width:
25.6 inches (65.0 cm)
Depth:
8.15 inches (20.7 cm)
Weight:
30.5 pounds (13.8 kg)1
From here: http://www.apple.com/imac/specs.html
No idea what it weighs without the stand but I wouldn't imagine the stand is more than 1lb, 2lbs at the most.

How can I transfer material from my old imac to a new imac without ransferring malware or viruses?
Download and run Etrecheck. Copy and paste the results into your reply. It's a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC to help identify the more obvious culprits.

Can you use a start up disc on an iMac without formatting the hard drive?
Yes, because the startup disk is read from the boot rom, not the Hard Disk.

Is there a fix yet for the no sound problem with lion on the iMac without having to restart every time I switch the computer on?
Try booting in Safe Mode by holding the the shift key immediately after powering on your system. Safe boot mode will for a directory check of your startup volume, then load only the required kernal extensions (kext files), and deletes some cache files. Once the system boots into Safe Mode you can simply restart the system to see whether the issue has been resolved.
If you still have the issue try resetting the SMC by shutting down the system and disconnecting the power cord for ~15 seconds, then reconnecting the power cord. Next, reset the parameter RAM (PRAM) by holding down the option-option-P-R keys after powering ON the system. Wait until the iMac restarts twice, then let the system boot normally. -
Why can I not restart or shut down my imac without using the power button?
why can I not restart or shut down my imac without using the power button?
Reset the SMC and then try a restart or shutdown from the drop down menus.
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Then if that doesn't work, backup because you have an OS X issue that will require either a repair or reinstall. -

Hi everyone,
I guess the question pretty much speaks for itself. My Imac is running very slow these past few months and I would like to reinstall the whole OS.
However, I would like to avoid loosing any data by formating the Imac without touching the user desk. Is that possible? And if so, what are te steps to proceed?
Thanks in advance for you help!Formatting a drive is a destructive process, so you cannot format a drive without losing everything on the drive. But it is possible to reinstall OS X without reformatting the drive.
But you need to tell us what version of OS X is installed. I would recommend you backup your drive before such an action. -
How can I format my intell based imac without the original Tiger discs? I have a user account on it that I dont want. I have upgraded to Snow Leopard but I want to to start affresh. Thank you. I have tried loading the Snow Leopard disc whilst holding down th C key but it goes straight into install mode. I am new to Macs and I have inherited this machine.
Hello, many options...
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the Erase tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Highlight the drive, select Partition Tab, then Format type... MacOS Extended Journalled, select the Security Options button, choose Zero Out Data, Erase... after completion do a new install.
Or...
Open System Preferences>Accounts, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
In the same pref pane highlight your old account, click the little minus icon, then use Disk Utility to Secure Erase Free Space. -
At present I synch my iPhone 4 to my Dell Laptop. I've recently bought an iMac and I want to synch my iPhone 4 to the iMac. How do i transfer all the relevant info from iTunes on my Dell Laptop to my iMac without losing any info, photos, music or apps?
there are a number of scenarios to do it.
The general idea was covered here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2518
Make sure you have a full backup of your iPhone before recyncing with the iMac as during this process all data will be wiped out from your iPhone.
Going forward you may want to check icloud which makes life easier.

I just downloaded Mountain Lion for my MacBook Pro from the App Store. I was curious if it is possible to downloand Mountain Lion to my iMac without paying the $19.99 fee again? Not trying to be a cheapskate, just curious if App Store purchases are universal like iTunes Apps.
You can re download Mountain Lion for free on all your authorized Macs using the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select Mountain Lion.
Then right or control click where you see Installed then click Install. -
Could You Use the iMac Without the Glass?
Hi. My iMac's Applecare has expired just this March. I was wondering if I could use the iMac without a glass so that things looks sharper, more vibrant colors, significantly less glare, probably will make it operate cooler and no smudge- nothing to clean all the time? I usually am the sole user of the iMac and there's no danger of the LCD being poked by someone.
Thank you in advance.
God bless.I took the polycarbonate panel off my iMac as soon as I received it from a third party reseller I purchased mine from.
The screen is definitely less glossy, sharper, easier on the eyes and my iMac does run cooler.
I didn't like the look of my iMac without the blacked out areas of the polycarbonate screen hiding the look of the aluminum frame and magnets, so I bought one of a these to restore my iMac to looking stock.

Just keep the original polycarbonate panel protected and handy to reinstall if you have to replace it to have your iMac serviced by an Apple Store or an Apple Aurhorized service center.

Downgrading to iTunes 8.2 from 9.01 broke a bunch of my authorizations
I, like a lot of you, completely had it with iTunes 9 so I downgraded to 8.2. I used my previous Library that the installer backed up, and TimeMachine to restore iTunes to the day before I upgraded originally. It worked seemingly flawlessly, except n
