There's a lock next to my iPod? Help me?

I have no idea what happened, but I need serious help...please.
Last night a friend of mine decided to just plug her iPod into my computer and I have no idea what she did and everything has been horribly messed up since.
I resent my ipod, and I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it. Now, when I plug in my iPod, it shows up in iTunes but there's a a picture of a lock next to it (where it tells you how much space is has) and I have no idea how to add music to it. It wont let me drag and drop.
What do I do?

It sounds like your iPod has been changed to automatic update. To get it back to the manual, drag and drop way of updating your iPod's songs do this:
Right click on the iPod in the source under iTunes, select iPod Options. Under the iPod tab, select manuall manage songs and playlists.
Now it should be back to the way it was.

Is there a cap lock function on the i-pod touch? I don't see a way to do it.

    Hello mdgm,
First ensure that Caps Lock is enabled by going to *Settings > General > Keyboard > Enable Caps Lock*.
When this feature is enabled, you can then use Caps Lock by double-tapping the Shift key on the keyboard.

  • In the list of my e-mail accounts, there is a lock next to the gmail account, yet not to any of my other accounts. What does this mean?

I'm just wondering what that lock icon on the envelope icon for my lone gmail account is, in the list of email accounts under the Get Mail listing. None of my other e-mail account icons in the Get Mail listing have that. Can you help?

It means the account uses a secure connection.

You cannot retrieve it, you must restore via recovery mode following the instructions in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212 and it may take more than one time through to succeed.

  • When Ipod is plugged into itunes there is a lock icon at the bottom.

When I plug my ipod up to my itunes there is a lock icon on the bottom of itunes next to the amount of music (i.e. 6.5 days). My friends doesn't have that icon when he plugs his up to his itunes. How do I turn it off?

Manually updating is not as easy and takes away from the easy syncing from your computer to iPod.

Automatically updating is easier and better, in my opinion.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

im locked out of my ipod, and the screen isnt responding when i go to swipe to unlock it or when i swipe to turn it off. All of my notifications are there but i cant reply to any of them. My screen is completly unresponsive. But, in the top left hand corner, there is an outline of a box. how do i fix this?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you tried resetting the PMU?
I'm not optimistic that this will help any more than the procedures you've already tried, but it won't hurt to try.
Do you still have your OS 9 installation? If so, try booting into OS 9 and see if the problems with the audio are happening there, too. If so, you can bet it's a hardware problem.
How big is your hard drive and how much space remains available on it? If you don't have your OS 9 installation in order to check out whether it's a hardware problem and you have enough available hard drive space, you may want to try an Archive and Install of the OS in order to make sure it isn't an OS X system-wide problem. If that doesn't do it, you could back up your hard drive and restore your software.
All of this may just be spinning your wheels, but it's all stuff you can try before shelling out a lot of money for repairs.

  • There's a lock on my ipod?? Help!!!

Basically, I bought this ipod two weeks ago online, I just realized when I went to my friend's house that there's a lock on the bottom right corner, beside where it displays the GB, and after that I can't put songs into my ipod from the library or listen to any songs inside the ipod, while conecting to my computer...When I click on the ipod (the color of the ipod's image is white), all the songs were in gray, so I can't click on it, so I can't delete any songs, all I did at my friend's house was that I replaced all my songs from my ipod, with songs from her ipod...Now even if I don't like them I can't delete them.

Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. For more detail see this tutorial: Managing Your Songs Manually
One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
    For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.
