Things to know about Macbook Pro???

Hey Everyone,
Recently I decided to switch from pc and purchased a Macbook Pro 15in. I can say I've enjoyed the experience so far with the MBP but find myself online daily trying to find out what all I should know about maintaining and operating the mac. It has 4gb of Ram and is running on Lion, besides upgrading my ram what can I do to keep my laptop running quick and smoothly. Also what advice do you guys have on physically cleaning the macbook, oh and one more, what cool things should I know about my new MBP?????!!!!

Read the user manual that came with your computer and read the os Help menu.

  • About MacBook Pro Warranty

    Hi guys,
I just have two quick questions about MacBook Pro,
First, how to identify a refurbished apple product? For example, if i am going to buy a MacBook from eBay, how do i know if it is not a refurbished laptop, is there a code which can be checked or something else?
second, what are the necessary documents for Apple Warranty if i am not in the country where i bought the product?
    Thanks!!!

The warranty is good worldwide and is tied to the machine's serial number, not to anything else. If your MBP's serial number identifies it in Apple's records as a machine that was sold for the first time +or factory refurbished and sold again+ within the past year, it will be covered anywhere.
Any Mac that has been refurbished by Apple is sold with the same warranty as a brand new computer, so you should have no qualms at all about buying a refurb. The warranty-coverage status of any Mac can be determined immediately by entering its serial number into the box on this page:

  • How to know my macbook pro supports usb2 or usb3?

How to know my macbook pro supports usb2 or usb3 ?
And if it is USB 2, will external hardisk which support usb 2 would be compatible with & vice-versa?
    What would be the cons?

USB 3.0 ports were only added to those MacBook Pros that were released in mid 2012 and later.
So you would have USB 2.0 ports on your machine.
But USB 3.0 and 2.0 are 'compaitble,' somewhat - you just won't be able to get the throughput of a USB 3.0 to USB 3.0 connection.

From the Finder menu select View>Show View Options. Then check the Date Created box only.

  • About Macbook pro Model Number

I want to ask about Macbook Pro Model # : ME294AE/A,that support Arabic language , Do (Apple in US) sell it ?, and if not,
    Do Model# ME294LL/A support Arabic language ?

Apple US only sells computers with the "LL/A" suffix.  What do you mean by "support"?  With the proper font installed, you can type and download documents in the Arabic language.

  • Basic questions about macbook pro + external monitor

    Hi,
I have some very basic questions about using a Macbook Pro + external display. I don't actually have them but need to know how things works.
    So, here they are:
    1) Can I use the external display as the main display?
    2) Will the external display run with its resolution or with that of the mbook pro?
    3) Somewhere I read that you cannot keep the macbook pro open and get the full resolution of the external display. Is that true ?
    4) Is it dangerous to keep the mbook closed while using the external display?
    5) Does the usage of the external display impact on mbook performance?
I know...a lot of questions , but would be nice if someone could help me.
    Thanks.

Hi - I am presently using an external display.
To answer your questions in sequence:
    1. Yes you can use the external display as your main display. The way to enable that mode is to put your MacBook Pro to sleep, attach the external display. Wake up your MBPro with the lid closed and you will see the external display as you main display. You can alternatively set the external to "Mirror" your notebook by using preferences/display.
    2. The external display will run at its resolution although you can adjust and calibrate it using Preferences/Display.
    3. Not true. You get max resolution on both displays. Of course you may have to tweak as mentioned above.
    4. Not at all. I use this mode all the time. Just make sure you initially set up as mentioned above and your LCD on the MBPro will stay off.
    5. I have not seen any performance degradation whatsoever.
    Hope this helps.

  • About MacBook Pro MD101HN/A

    Hi guys,
I'm from India and was about to buy my first Macbook. The model which I'm buying is MacBook Pro MD101HN/A. I just wanted to know if this is the latest model for non-retina 13" Macbook Pro or are there any other models (besides the Core i7 one).
I know that Apple will rewamp the Macbook Pro series at WWDC conference on 10th June, but I guess the new model will still be very costly (while I'm getting a good discount currently on MD101HN/A model). The main reason actually that I'm buying it is because of the discount.
I'm a college grad. and will mostly use this mac for projects/assignments and web browing mostly. I rarely use photoshop or other such softwares. So will the 2.5Ghz Core i5 processor suffice my need?

There is no guarantee Apple will revamp anything at the WWDC.
Yes, the 2.5Ghz will certainly meet your needs.

  • A few questions about Macbook Pro 13inch batteries.

Hey, my Macbook Pro just arrived today, and I was wondering about general battery care:
Is it okay to leave it plugged in while using it?
How come there's a longer power cord and a shorter one? Is it just for convenience?
How long does a Macbook usually take to charge to 100%?
Is it okay to leave it plugged in all night?
Sorry if I sound stupid, but I'm not very tech-savvy. Thanks for any help!
    xx

Yes, you can leave it plugged in.  Once in a while however, you have to use it under it's own power, at least till it reaches 80% to keep your battery in optimal condition.
As for the power cord, you answered that one yourself " for convenience "
How long does it take long to charge all depends on how low the battery was when you charged it.
Yes, it's ok to leave your Macbook plugged in all night.  Just make sure you use it under it's own power once in a while.  You don't have to fully discharge it which might do more harm than good.

  • Newbie questions about Macbook Pros at work...

Hello all!  Our new CTO has decided he wanted a MacBook Pro in our predominant Windows desktop environment.  While we do have several Macs in use, primarily in our development departments, I believe this is a sign of the times and I expect more Macs to come through the doors as time passes.  It is for this reason as an IT admin that I'm trying to begin standardizing what I can on the Macs.  Our Windows desktop is tightly locked down where users do not have admin rights on their systems and all systems are centrally managed through our desktop management solution.  About 15 years ago, I supported Macs in the workplace, but boy have times changed!  I'm struggling to figure out how Macs should work in our environment.  Is it possible to have corporate-owned Macs that are locked down and centrally managed?  Should I be considering the Apple Deployment and Device Enrollment Programs as a starting point?  My primary goal is to not have users using their personal Apple IDs on the devices.  Is this possible and is this the right way to go for business applications?  Thank you for any information you can give to me.  This will be an ongoing learning curve for me.  If there are some good training sites out there, I'd appreciate your opinions there too!

Is it possible to have corporate-owned Macs that are locked down and centrally managed?
Yes. Your research should be directed toward OS X Server, Open Directory, Profile Manager, and the Volume Purchasing Program.

  • I have a question about Macbook Pro system preferences...

When I first got my Macbook Pro, I thought it was cool to have my computer "talk" to me when I had notifications. For example, when I have an update available, it will say, "Stephen, updates are available." Or when my battery is low, it will say, "Stephen, you are now running on reserve battery power." I cannot figure out how to turn this feature off. Can anyone help me out?

    Found it!

  • Few Questions about macbook pros

Is the transition from windows to mac easy or does it take awhile?
Did you previous windows users get used to the minimizing of windows,I find it alittle weird?
Another question,Why do people ask if they should get a macbook or macbook pro if price and screen size isn't an issue? Is there some sort of difference?
    What is Rosetta?
How many windows can you have minimized?
Are the widgets I see on apple's site the only ones that are out or are there more?
I do alot of downloading, will macbook be perfect for this?
When people say mac doesn't have viruses, does that mean because not many people use mac or because it has a well built OS?
    Is there spyware for macs?

Is the transition from windows to mac easy or does it
    take awhile?
It depends how long you have been using windows....
How many windows can you have minimized?
    Lots, and then some
Are the widgets I see on apple's site the only ones
that are out or are there more?
there are more out there but I am sure most are listed on Apple's site
I do alot of downloading, will macbook be perfect for
    this?
It depends what you mean by downloading. If you mean you download a lot of software/music/movies etc illegally using PTP, MIRC, Torrents etc, then I would say no: it is generally more straight forward on Windows, so I've heard.
When people say mac doesn't have viruses, does that
mean because not many people use mac or because it
    has a well built OS?
possibly a bit of both but I reckon it's mainly because people don't bother making viruses for macs (yet....)
