Thinkpad T500 Ultranav Issues
Hi,
We have just installed 250 T500 laptops. We are having several users complain that the
"mouse" drops in applications; IE Outlook to the last message in the inbox.
It seems to be an issue with the touchpad. I disabled it for a few users and this fixed it. Has anyone else seen this issue?
Thanks

So the problem doesn't occur with Intel graphics?
I had updated the ATI Catalyst Control Center drivers and video applications directly from the ATI site and had forgotten about it. It was a newer version although installed some files and not others.
After uninstalling the ATI software and reinstalling the latest (albeit older) display drivers/software from Lenovo, so far it seems to be working fine now. This episode was my punishment for going outside Lenovo for drivers. : )

Our company is a reseller of Lenovo and sold a custom T500 W7 to a good client to replace his T61 Vista (64575KU). His setup is for the laptop to be docked (250410U) and the display is expanded across two 22" LG LCD monitors; one digital, one analogue (Samsung Synchmaster 225BW). With his T61 the image is clear. With the T500 the right, non primary, analogue LCD flickers, especially the top inside or left corner. On the T500 I have updated all the Windows and ATI drivers and Lenovo updates.
The client can’t see past this issue to be impressed with his new laptop. I am not sure where to go from here. Is it possible this resolution is beyond the abilities of the Radeon 3650 video card?
Thanks in advanced.

1 Year WarrantyI guess you also updated the bios as well on the t500?
Those screens are not beyond the capabilities of the T500 (3650). I've run this laptop on 2 22" screens 1600x1050 and it worked well. I'm not really sure where the issue would be though?
I'm sure you checked that the display is being run at full resolution...
Which display is it which exhibits the flashing? If it is the analog monitor I would try switching monitors and see if that improves the situation, some LCD"s have very poor analog inputs and i've seen problems even when using or more of the same model.
I would say you should try it out with a dock with two digital displays however that doesn't seem to work in win7 due to the lack of presentation manager for win7 (in vista I can setup Displayport/Dvi + dock DVI and have two extenral digital displays, though it turns off my onboard laptops panel.

At startup, my Thinkpad T60 displays a Fan Failure message but the fan seems to be running fine. Before replacing any hardware, I thought it might be helpful to update the bios to see if that resolves the problem. Unfortunately, I'm unable to access the bios. When I tap the F1 key the computer beeps consistently and I am unable to enter the BIOS Setup Utility. When I stop tapping F1, the Fan Failure message once again appears on the screen and the computer fails to boot to the operating system. Any suggestions for resolving this issue are greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
Solved!
Go to Solution. Not sure what the cause of your error is, but I can tell you that it wasn't caused by anything that a bios update would fix, and I'd never recommend trying to flash a bios on an unstable system, you could turn a $12 repair into a $600 one.
In an attempt to gather more info for somone who may have seen this error before, how do you know the fan ""seems to be running fine", if you can't boot your system?
One thing you can try is to plug a known good fan into your system board, then try booting/loading bios. Even if you don't actually install the fan, it could tell you if you actually have a fan motor failure. My theory is that yor systemboard would detect an open/shorted circuit in the fan motor and prevent boot to keep from damaging your system. By plugging in a working fan (even if not installed), your system would no longer see the error. However, if it does boot, don't run it for more then a couple mins without a good working fan installed.
I'm sure it's also possible that a systemboard failure could generate such an error, so if a known good fan also triggers this error, that would be the most logical cause, but perhaps there is something another member can offer here that I'm unaware of.
Good luck
ps. You can buy the fan motor (without heatsink) for about $12 on ebay from various sellers. I keep one in stock, in case I ever have need of it, then order a replacement as I use them.

I need to buy another usb, pcmcia or mini pci-e wireless card.
Can you recommend one that works well? Because I never work with wifi cards on linux.
sorry my poor english
EDIT 21/07/09: add more information (thinkwiki):
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_ … Adapter_II
EDIT 22/10/09:
Finally came the expected driver, I think it's premature but it works perfectly.
Here the driver (r8192se_pci):
32bits: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/33927923/ … 009.tar.gz
64bits: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34090326/ … bit.tar.gz
untar; make; make install; reboot and enjoy it
I test it with:
netcfg
standar commands:
ifconfig wlan0 up
iwlist wlan0 scan
iwconfig wlan0 essid MySsid
wpa_supplicant -B -Dwext -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
dhcpcd wlan0
The first time I compile the module, function correctly, but after scan for available networks I haven't any results.
Recompile and everything worked again
[b]I edit the wiki, pleased read it and help me because my English is a bit basic.
thanks

??? iMAC 2012 27" used as display for LENOVO THINKPAD T500 ???
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T500 (must use for work) and my home computer is a 2012 iMac 27". I would liek to use the iMac as an external display for my thinkpad. I've read everywhere online and haven't found the answer I'm looking for!
I bought a displayport TO minidisplay port cable (both male ends) and connected the imac + thinkpad. Executing CMD f2(displayport activating function) does nothing though. I've tried fn+CMD+f2 etc..etc.. I've read these cables can go BOTH ways... (but have also read some only go one way?) The thinkpad has a dvi output as well but I was hoping to use this DP/MDP cable to connect the two computers as it seemed more logical than using the old DVI/VGA formats...
Has anyone got any experience doing this or anything that might help me solve this dilemma.
Thanks for your time!Hi, if it doesn't have a real MiniDisplay Port, I doubt the adapter has what is needed to do it from what I've read.

I bought a T500 in Jan, 2009. So far my battery only has 53 cycles. But it only could last at most 20min. Sometimes, the gauge shows 60% full, but the next minute it shows less than 1% full and shut down automatically. Although I bought a 3-year warranty for my T500, the representative said the warranty for battery is only one year... And I found I need to spend more than $150 for a new battery...
The manufacturer is Sony and FRU number is 42T4623. It is a Li-Ion battery and the gauge still says this battery is in good condition. What's the problem with battery? Do I have to buy a new one?
Thanks for any advice.

From power manager, I got my battery FRU# is 42T4623 but from Lenovo website warranty page, I got my battery FRU# is 42T4777, MFG# is 92P1142. It's very weird.
From the above link, I found it's compatible with 92P1142, but did not find 42T4623 or 42T4777 in the compatibility list as below:

Hello,
I have a serious problem with my new Thinkpad T500 NK145GE: If I view something with fast motion (e.g. a video clip from a concert, with spotlights etc.), I can see vertical break. Here is an example of it: Example
This break is not static or in the middle of the TFT. There might be several of them at the same time.
I can reproduce this problem on Windows Vista Business (with both graphic cards) as well on on Ubuntu Intrepid (for both graphic cards as well). I also tried diverse video programs - all have the same problem.
I must admit that I am quiet unhappy about this problem. My old laptop (4 years) has no problems with its TFT (the same resolution and size) at all.
Best regardsWelcome to the forum!
Could you possibly post a link to a picture showing what we're actually dealing with?
Cheers,
George

Hello! I have a ThinkPad T500 from 3 years at my office and i decided to buy it for me. These years it worked just with his Intel GMA 4500 MHD. At my home, i tryed to switch it to ATI Radeon 3650 and......there is the problem!!! First I installed the driver, at Device Manager says that the ATI video card works. Entering in Bios/ Config/ Display, i maked these settings After Presing F10 , it restarts and.......nothing.... I plugged a VGA monitor and it looks: And.... And After this image it goes to this error!!!!!!!! Where is the Problem?thI can switch again to the Intel GMA and it works perfect....I tryed to install an original ati driver and the switchable graphic from Lenovo and...same problem.I SHOULD MENTION THAT THE ATI DOESN;T WORK ON THE LAPTOP LCD....IT WORKS JUST ON VGA!!!!!!After all....In Devide Manager says that the device cannot start and finally.....In the Device Manager appears just the Intel Video Card. What can i do? I need some more performance in some games......This laptop was new.....and it never runs with the ATI video....this give me a hope that the ati is not Broken!!!!This Laptop runs just AutoCAD....about 3-4 hours per day. Specifications: Intel Core 2 DUO T9600 @ 2.8 GhzRAM: 4Gb DDR3 1600 MhzHDD: 320 Gb
It is hard to diagnose from far away, but my guess is that the video memory in the ATi video is bad.

2nd Request - PCI Memory Controller for ThinkPad T500 2081-CTO OS Vista 64bit
Evidently the PCI Memory Controller driver is not installed on my ThinkPad T500 2081-CTO OS Vista 64bit and shows up as an error when running the Lenovo System Tool Box.
Searching this forum I found one psot as follows BUT thisis for a T-200 laptop.
Re: Driver for PCI Memory Controller

You need the driver for Intel Turbo Memory. Only Windows Vista can use Turbo Memory, so we only have a Vista version for the driver:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67820
Is this driver appropriate?
Do I need the PCI Memory Controller driver .. and if so where do I find it for my laptop?
Thanks.
Solved!
Go to Solution.I would suggest that you forget about turbo memory. Intel quit talking about it and they have not released a driver since 2009. That is 2 years before service pack 1 was released. I ran tests and I was never able to measure any improvement with a card installed. As far as I am concerned, it is just something else to break and interfere with other components.,

Dear community,
would it be possible to use the HSPA+ capable UMTS module "0A36186"on a ThinkPad T500 "2089-A35-GE"? The build in old module does unfortunately only support standard HSPA.
Thanks a lot!Hi Illuminatus78,
Unfortunately, it does not look to be compatible with the T500, both the site you linked to and the Lenovo page for the same product do not list the T500 as compatible (Here's the same accessory on the Lenovo site: ThinkPad Mobile Broadband Global - Overview )
I also checked the compatibility using a chart I have and it coincides with those two pages.

ThinkPad T500 Hard Drive "Holder" Part Number(s)??
I have a ThinkPad T500 ca. late 2008, I want to buy another hard drive "holder" for it just like the one holding the existing hard drive.
Is this available at the parts store, what are the part number(s) involved??
Can someone please point me in the right direction??
Thank you, TomGMAC-R60 wrote:
what does the x300 look like I've not seen one
The X300 uses 1.8inch HDD, the rails will not be able to hold the smaller drive if it's able to hold T500's 2.5'' drive. Also, X3xx series doesn't require HDD caddy. I think this is what lead_org meant.
Hope this helps.

Thinkpad T500 **** 8GB ram Upgrade ****
I have Thinkpad T500 with 4gb, but if i add 8gb what kind of change to my laptop would it make?
And can i add a video card to it, i has a lot of space in middle right part of laptop.juggernaut wrote:
also, i am proably going to bay it from Ebay , but the results for (search: thinkpad t500 8gb ram) 8gb ram come up with like 2 X 4GB, so i will have to put in two chips or its 2x4gb like 4gb for 2pc?
Generally something like "2x 4GB" means two modules of 4GB each for a total of 8GB. AFAIK the T500 has only two RAM slots so if you currently have 2x 2GB you'll need to replace them both with 4GB modules.
As for performance improvement that depends on what apps you run and how many of them you want to run at the same time. Windows Task Manager will give you insights on how you're utilizing the 4GB you now have.

ThinkPad T500 won't start ...
Hi everyone.
I am using this forum as i have no other options left, in fixing a Lenovo ThinkPad T500.
The first time, with both battery and power plug connected, or just battery / power connected, when the pw button was pressed, nothing happened (no video, no audio signals, no fan, no hdd, no status leds).
So, i disassembled the laptop, removed all it's components (memory module, keyboard, trackpoint, fingerprint reader, hdd, cd/dvd drive, lcd, wireless, internal modem, cpu, cmos battery).
After a reassembly of the laptop, at power on, status leds are like in the picture below, the cpu fan is running for a couple of seconds, and the hdd is running without the hdd status led flickering, but there is no image on lcd and no audio signals. I tried to power on the laptop with battery and power, just battery and/or just power. In the picture below, there are only the necessary components connected: cpu, memory module, lcd, speakers, keyboard, trackpoint, and also hdd and cv/dvd drive. I also connected a external monitor, but there was no video signal.
As i have no video and/or audio messages/signals, i can't fully diagnose the laptop. I am hoping that someone have had the same situation, or knows what might be the problem.
I would appreciate any help!
THANKS.Hi CiprianLazar,
Regarding USBs, check whether their pins aren't bent, check this KB:- http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/R-L-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/ThinkPad-T400-T500-R400-R500-hangs-on-boot-a...

Can not find driver for Thinkpad T500
I can not find driver for Thinkpad T500? Could you please help me?
Moderator edit: Matched Subject to content. Thanks to the folks at Kepware. I was able to get this working for CompactLogix L32E.
Step 1: In NI OPC Server Create a new Channel. Channel Name can be whatever you want.
Step 2: Device driver will be ControlLogix Ethernet. You can also enable diagnostics if you want.
Step 3: Network adapter. I used default setting.
Step 4: Write only latest values. Duty at 10. ( These are default settings and are recommended.)
Step 5: Finish new Channel setup
Step 6: Click on Icon to create new device
Step 7: Device Name can be whatever you chose.
Step 8: Select Device Model in this case CompactLogix 5300
Step 9: Device ID For me was IP Address XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX,1,0 (Note the 1 directs path to backplane. The 0 to the slot where processor is)
Step 9: Device timing. Leave at defaults.
Step 10: Auto demotion leave unchecked.
Step 11: Leave at defaults Do not generate on startup Delete on create and allow subgroups
Step 12: Port and watchdogs at default settings
Step 13: Project options leave at default. (In my case I changed to short as that is what most of my tags were)
Step 14: Create tagname from device.
Step 14: Finish Device setup.
You now have two options.
Option 1: Start creating tags as you need them. (This is what I did)
Option 2: Right Click newly created device and select properities. Then select database creation and click auto create.
Go To Lookout and create new driver.
Select OPC Client
Server name will be from dropdown menu. National Instruments:NIOPCServers
Click okay
You should be done and smiling.

I also had this problem in iMovie '08. When I skim over the videofragments in the event pane, the preview pane on the upper right stays black. I can hear the sound from the video's though. The first video in the event pane doesn't have this problem,
