Thinkpad Yoga doesn't power up

I bought a Thinkpad Yoga about 3 weeks ago. It came with two discoloured spots at the top two corners, so I went back to the shop and switched for a new one. This also came with the problem and I therefore switched for a third one again, which also had this problem.
I sent it in for replacement, Lenovo was willing to approve a direct replacement from them, so after 3 weeks of waiting (yes, which meant i spent only 1 day so far with this laptop). The fourth laptop arrived today. However, after working for a few hours, the laptop now refuses to power up at all.
I tried the power button trick, doesn't work. I tried pulling out the battery and power cable and pressed the reset button, doesn't work. I tried holding on to the power button for 5 minutes, pressing the reset button for 5 mins, doesn;t work.
Before I request for a fifth replacement laptop from Lenovo again, does anybody have any tips that could help me power up my TPY? I feel really helpless with this laptop right now. (Refunds doesn't happen in Singapore due to weak consumer protection laws).

Does the laptop respond when u press the power button? If you have problem I strongly suggest refund or replacement.

Jin Li

  • ThinkPad Yoga: No Lenovo Power Manager?

Is there no Lenovo Power Management software for the ThinkPad Yoga? I liked the application. I noticed on the regular Yoga 2, there is an Energy Manager app.

    Hi,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
If you are using Windows 8/8.1, I’m sorry to inform that Power manager doesn’t exist for the above said operating systems. Energy management is designed to work for Ideapads and ThinkPads are supported with a set of applications called Lenovo Think Vantage Toolbox. Unfortunately, Lenovo had to withdraw power manager for its ThinkPad models due to certain conflicts with Windows 8/8.1.
    Hope this clarified your query!

    Mithun.

  • Thinkpad Yoga won't power up anymore

I was using my Thinkpad Yoga today (Quicken) and then suddenly, the screen went blank, the fan started making noise, and that was it. Can't power it up or down.
I've had it 3 months. I was watching 24 on it last night. Since the battery is inaccessible, there was no way to turn it off. I called Microsoft Tech Support and they were useless I took it into the Aventura Mall Microsoft Store but they said they can't fix it they can only send it out which will take weeks.
I have the Complete Care plan, mind you.
I tried unscrewing the bottom myself. I still couldn't get it off, but the fan noise at stopped. I tried hooking up to power and turning it on, but it still won't turn on.
Help please, other than taking it to Microsoft Store who said it will take weeks to repair.

Good news. I went back to the Microsoft Store and met with someone different. He looked at my computer and said since it had only been 3 months, he'd swap it out with a new one, swap out my hard disc, and restart my Complete Care warranty. So that was great! He did it right in front of me. I told him the other guy the other day said they couldn't do that and he said he'd have a talk with him. They don't know what caused the other problem, but said it seemed related to it not holding a charge.
Also, he said he was able to remove the warped screw because he had another, slightly bigger, screwdriver.

  • Thinkpad Yoga Charging Indicator

    Hello,
where can I find the charging indicator on the Thinkpad Yoga? When I'm charging the machine (turned off) I don't see any light or other charging indicator. Is this normal?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Rango

    Hi Rango,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to inform you that Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga doesn’t have a dedicated indicator for charging status.
The illuminated dots in the ThinkPad logo on the outer lid of your computer and on the palm rest show the system status of your computer:
    • Blinks for three times: The computer is initially connected to the power.
    • On: The computer is on (in normal mode).
    • Off: The computer is off or in hibernation mode.
    • Blinks fast: The computer is entering sleep or hibernation mode.
    • Blinks slowly: The computer is in sleep mode.
    Hope this clarified your query!

  • Can't find the onekey recovery in my thinkpad yoga?

I need to backup my system after all the new installation but somehow can't find the onekey recovery in the new thinkpad yoga. Why the thinkpad yoga doesn't come with onekey recovery?
Also I downloaded and installed onekey recovery version 8.0.0.1219 but when I tried the system backup it said "Current system can not support back up". Am I missing something here? Has anyone able to back up their thinkpad yoga?
    Any information will be appreciated.

  • Thinkpad Yoga: Lenovo Power Plans

Hello i upgraded my Yoga to Windows 8.1. Enterprise but no i lost my lenovo energy plans. Can you tell me how to get them like energysaver again?
Can anyone export them like here http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-import-and-export-power-plans-schemes-in-windows-7/ for me please?
    Regards Zack

Then, about controlling at which level does the battery start charging and at which level it stops, I have found that the Power Managment software extention is not compatible with the Thinkpad Yoga... Which is a pity to my mind. The Lenovo staff justify it by saying that it is not harmful to let the battery fully charged and plugged until it is the case during years non stop.
But I would like to tell here that since we see on several websites that a battery has a better lifetime if charged at 80-90% rather than 100%, if the software engineers could make the software compatible without too much effort, that would be great.
I have also discussed with other people about the F1-F12 keys configuration in the BIOS, and we agree in general that it's very frustrating to see some useful possibilities disabled on newest computers, especially knowing that it is supposed to be professional machines...
I hope then that the Lenovo staff is opened to customers' wishes and works to make the best of Lenovo's computers experience.
    All the best.

  • Issues with Thinkpad yoga on Windows 7 64-bit

I uninstalled the windows 8.1 that came with my Thinkpad Yoga to installe windows 7 64-bit because there was no support for Power Manager ( a tool that allows you to charge your battery only upto a certain percentage (eg 40%) which helps reduce battery aging when the notebook is mostly operated on AC power).
Doing that required me to fully clean the Hard-disk during the installation process.
I installed almost all of the drivers available on  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...
for thinkpad yoga and windows 7 64 bit.
Happily, this provided me the Power manager, and I can use it just as I wanted.
However, all these has brought in additional issues which are listed below:
    1. The touch pad right click doesn't work. Only two finger tap works as right click.
    2. The touch pad gestures for zoom and scroll doesn't work at all.
    3. The screen auto-rotate doesn't work.
    4. The touch screen gesture for zoom doesn't work.
I did install the ultra-nav and screen-rotate drivers, but I get error messages regarding synaptics ... not working and also sensor driver not working during the windows startup.
    Any help please?
    Thank you.

Just when I was happy that major issues have been resolved by constant updating, I am now experiencing this frightening problem. Mostly during startup, and lately in the middle of working, the screen freezes, shows very damaged image (like TV noise), produces the most unpleasant sound through the speakers and nothing works. I need to restart and hope that it will be ok. Sometimes it requires 2 or 3 restarts, going to safe-mode and returning back to get the issue resolved.
This has happened three or 4 times within 24 hrs. I searched in the forum and for another model it was suggested that epresscache might be the cause. I disabled the service, but the problem reappeared even then.
    Any help please:
This is what appears on the screen when the computer freezes and produces loud unpleasant noise sound.

  • Thinkpad Yoga 12 20CD extreme fan noise

    Hi,
Last week, I had my Thinkpad Yoga 12 serviced, as it didn't boot anymore. The whole interior got replaced. Since then, the fan noise is really unbearable. It was the same when I initially bought the machine, but then, a BIOS update (don't know which anymore) fixed it. It's a loud high-pitch noise, like a whissle.
I need urgent help, my collegues are complaining of the noise.
    Best regards,
    Jeroen

Well here I am on the new thread as well - and like heck the issue was resolved on the old thread. As mentioned before by myself and others on the other thread, I would update the BIOS, the fan would work for a while, then it would stop again until I updated the BIOS yet again.HOWEVER, thinking on this, and a variety of other problems I've been having with the TP Yoga (a whole lot - such buggy software), I remembered from my T61 days that the Lenovo System Update software is pretty hit and miss with finding updates. So I went to the Lenovo downloads page for the TP Yoga and indeed found a lot of software not passed onto me by the System Update.Amongst these was (TA-DA !) a utility "Lenovo Fan Test for Windows". I thought it would be useful to install in any case to test if the fan was operating properly (it was not part of the standard suite of diagnostic tools provided on my computer).Anyway since I installed it my fan has worked !!! - but only when my computer is plugged in, though this I believe is because I am using Lenovo Power Optimized (Lenovo Power Manager was another software on the site not provided to me via System Update) which I believe relies on passive cooling (throttling back processor) when only battery power is available. But now TpFan works all the time, though only in smart mode, and when I plug in the power to stream a video the computer doesn't reach boiling point and then shut down.Interesting. My fan diagnostic comes up as unavailable...

  • Genuine Lenovo Battery Not Attached, Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga

I am having a message that says "Genuine Lenovo Battery Not Attached" message that appears after Windows 8.1 starts up. A similar sort of message appears before even Windows boots up, and I need to press the 'Esc' key in order for Windows to boot. This seems to have happened after a recent Windows update. I have uninstalled an reinstalled the Lenovo Power Management Driver but it does not appear to have fixed the issue. My BIOS is the latest version.
This issue is on my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga S1.
    Any assistance is appreciated.

  • Fan racing intermittently, no CPU load, Thinkpad Yoga 15

I just purchased a Thinkpad Yoga 15. I was trying to fix its disabled discrete graphics card. One thing i did was update the BIOS. I think it's after this that the fan started to intermittently race. It's silence, then runs loudly and annoyingly for a second or two, slilent again, then randomly continues. Before the upgrade it was silent all the time.
This is terrible. Anyone has any ideas?

  • Thinkpad Yoga, not waking up after sleep

I have an issue with my Thinkpad Yoga (20CD).
Sometimes after I have left my Yoga unattended. I come back and find that it's on (red light on) but screen is black, but nothing happends when moving mouse or pressing keys.
I believe this is happens with regards to sleep mode.
I still have some analysis to do wether it happens when power is connected or not, external monitor is connected or not.
I have installed all the latest drivers from lenovos website.

    Hi Henrikh,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that your ThinkPad Yoga goes to sleep and doesn’t resume normally.
To disable the system from going automatically to sleep mode, go to control panel -> Power options -> on the left hand side, Change when the computer sleeps -> Change “Put the computer to sleep” to never.
To enable a device to wake up the system from sleep, Go to control panel -> Device manager -> Go to "Mice and other pointing devices" and double click on the mouse which you are using and check "Allow this device to wake the computer". Press OK.
Do the same for keyboard as well.
Do let me know if it helped!
    Best regards,
    Mithun.

  • Thinkpad Yoga Hot

So, recently I've noticed something odd about my Thinkpad Yoga S1. I close the lid and put my computer away. Usually when I take it out, it has started to hibernate but today when I took out my computer, I noticed that it was quite warm and it was still running when I opened it up. I checked my power settings and everything is the same. WHat is going on?

I am using Kaspersky Internet Secuirty 2015, when I resume my TPY from sleep, the message receiver for shortcut hot keys will show up and use 20-35% processing power which cause the laptop to heat up.

  • Thinkpad Yoga S2 Largest After-Market HDD

Can anyone point me to the highest capacity 2.5" HDD, 2.5" SSD, and m.2 SSD that would be compatible with the Thinkpad Yoga S2 12?
I know that I need to stick to 7mm on the 2.5" drive, and 42mm on the m.2.  I was hoping someone else had already done the research.
Also, is the Maintenance Manual downloadable yet?

if you type ThinkPad Yoga in the search box, and click on ThinkPad Yoga 12 in the result list, you will get an error, it has been going on for a while, probably a bug in Lenovo's database, it happens every once a while.  submitting ticket to their web admin usually doesn't help, i have tickets closed saying it is fixed and it wasn't, haven't bother for a while.
Anyhow, the workaround is to use the Machine Type for search instead, you can get to the page, e.g. 20DK or 20DL would get you to

  • Thinkpad yoga 14 Fix I discovered

    Hello,
To geeksquad repair techs or customers savvy with a soldering iron, I just wanted to present the fix I figured out to the ever-so-frustrating problem on the Thinkpad yoga 14 where the laptop would power off when disconnected from AC power and then held or nudged in a certain way.
long story short, there is a small switch that detects if the back cover is on, which, for what I assume is safety reasons, shuts off the laptop if the back cover is detected removed. the problem is that lenovo picked an overly sensitive switch for this purpose, and any minor deformation of the case is enough to trigger it, regardless of how tightly the back cover is screwed on. therefore, the switch needs to be soldered to trick it into thinking the back cover is always on.
    (removed per forum guidelines)

I wanted to also clarify that electrical tape is not sufficient to fix this, the switch will simply stretch through the electrical tape over time.
