Third-party instruments

How do I use a third-party virtual instrument in Logic 8? Specifically I bought East-West Orchestral (Silver) and installed it ok - it runs stand-alone. But i cant find any info as to how to place it so Logic 8 can incorporate it.

Most installers will do this for You automatically, but to do it manually there will be a 'component' to place in :YOURCOMPUTERNAME / LIBRARY / AUDIO PLUGINS / COMPONENTS.
I don't know eastwest stuff so just googled them & there was a note on the productpage at soundsonline.com saying you need kontakt 2.2 or later for use with an intel mac. you don't list the type of iMac you have but if its an intel maybe this explains it?

How do i access third party instruments

Sorry for this questions seems really basic. Moved from Garageband to Logic and can't find out where the AU third party instruments are. Although not easy to get to in garageband I was successful --now I can't seem to find them in Logic. Thanks in advance-- I have the Sonics 88 piano AU which is listed in the AU directory

All 64bit AU Instrument Plugins (LPX doesn't support 32bit AU Plugins) can be found by making a Software Instrument track, click the large i button in the top left hand corner of Logics main window (To turn on the Inspector...).and then after selecting that track... in the Inspector for that track... using the Instrument Button.....
Tip: In Logic's preferences.. turn on all the advanced features so Logic works in the full Logic mode and not the cut down 'Garageband Pro' mode...

Installing third party instrument samples

I just purchased and installed Vienna Instrument's Special Edition. Nothing tells me how to import the samples into Logic Pro's tracks, and Logic Pro isn't any help either - it says refer the VI manual (and adds the helpful comment that if third party samples are properly installed, they will work just fine).
I went through the installer tutorials, including mapping to the folders that hold the VI instruments. I also watched the basic online tutorial on how to use the VI Instruments Standalone (which is no help because I'm trying to import these sounds into Logic, and neither Logic nor the VI manual give you ANY indication how these two pieces of software have any relationship to each other.)
Classic example of manuals being written from the world view of the informed, instead of thinking what somebody without any background in this would need to know (i.e. the people who actually need the manuals). It's like trying to find the interstate entrance in New England - "If you don't know how to get there, you don't belong there."
I'm also experiencing all kinds of crackling and latency, having simply installed the samples, without having plugged any of them in to a Logic Pro track - seems like I'm scraping the bottom of my memory without having done ANYTHING yet. (Macbook Pro 1.86 GHz, 2GB DD2 Ram).

I am able to open VI's stand alone software and hear the samples. I have no idea what the "AU Manager" is and nothing in the Logic Pro manuals give any indication of such a thing (continously curious to me how all these manuals are written for those who don't need them). Can you tell me how to find and run this AU Manager that seems critcial to getting started, since Logic Pro and VI apparently don't seem to think it's necessary to mention it (and yet they tell you to read the manuals cover to cover...)?
Yes, the Vienna Instruments component is in it's correct folder.
And yes, I've restarted the computer and all the software a dozen times.
Yes - the syncrosoft license is installed and operating correctly.
If you've got other ideas of why this won't work, let me know. I'm burning up a precious weekend on something that ought to be brain-dead easy to do.
I've also got the MacProvVideo DVD tutorials for Plug-ins and for EXS24 (Martin Sitter's group). What a joke. They explain all about the complex conversion of non-native instruments like AKAI, and completely ignore telling someone how to connect VSL to Logic Pro. Again, assuming it must be too easy (who do they think buys tutorials?).
Very frustrated over what should be a very simple process.

Spectrasonics & Third Party Instruments

I just upgraded from Pro 6 to Logic 8 , and I can't seem to get it to recognize any of my spectrasonics instruments. After creating a new instrument, no third party software shows up in the list of instruments, only the Apple instruments. I've tried resetting the AU Manager, and that didn't work. I've looked through the forums, and while many people have had issues with the multi out, I haven't been able to find any info on simply loading the instrument.
Can anyone help?

Data Acquistion Using Third Party Instruments

Hello,
I am planning to create a data acquistion system using Labview+Third Party Data Acquistion Card(from Multi-Instruments Inc). I got the attached documentation from hardware producer which expain how to create VC++ application using provied DLLs.
It should also possible to create application on Labview by using the provided DLLs. But I failed to make the first step dut to limited programming experience.
Can anyone provide any examples on this field?
Or can anyone help to create a simple application(which could show the acqured signal) using attached DLL+Computer Sound Card+Labview? So that I could follow your example as reference. The attached DLL support Computer Sound Card.

Upconvert Third Party Instrument Driver

Attached is a 3rd party instrument driver contained within a .llb that has multiple VIs used to control a GPIB device. I have attached the .llb below.

Third-party Instruments Dead. But...

My $300 Garritan Personal Orchestra is dead on my Intel iMac. Rosetta is of no use in allowing it to be accessed in GarageBand 3. This is a major downer.
However, Andy Drabble is in the process of creating a binary for SoundFont Synth. And this is good news.

I have not heard back from Gary Garritan regarding GPO. However, I do not think it is about Garritan as much as the Native Instruments Kontakt player. That is the real sticky point. Gary and I have talked about a GarageBand-dedicated version, but I have not heard back regarding it.
I just looked up NI regarding Kontakt player and they promise an Intel version by the 2nd Quarter of 2006.

Hey All,
is it possible to add new drum samples, instruments, or effects to Garageband for Ipad? I am really happy with the program, but i feel that in time the native sample- and effect packs will start to bore me.

just got myself a new sl 25 mk2 and downloaded bass station 2 tho i cant seem to get auto map to recognise bass station anyone any ideas on how i can fix this I'm using logic pro x

Third party software instrument not outputting to right speaker?

Hi there. I know that third party support is not something I can expect to get much of here, but I figured I'd see if anyone had any suggestions anyway. I'm new to GarageBand, and am using the '8 bit' plugin from a Japanese band called YMCK (http://www.ymck.net/english/download/index.html). The plugin does seem a little buggy or incompatible with my system/GarageBand because I often get no sound and have to restart GarageBand, or (and I warn you if you try it) occasionally I'll get a loud, annoying tone until I restart the app as well.
Normally, however, it does what it's supposed to except for the fact that I am not getting any audio output from the right speaker for software instruments using this plugin, regardless of the panning I'm using. This is just kind of strange and I'm wondering if maybe there's something I'm missing, or perhaps someone else has used this plugin before (or would be willing to try it). Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Logic Express 8 not seeing third-party software instruments

I have tried to install some Puremagnetik EXS instruments files for Logic, following manufacturer's instructions to place an alias of the file containing them in the folder Macintosh HD-->Library-->Application Support-->Logic-->Sampler Library. Have tried this both with an alias and with the actual file. Actual file resides on the home drive not an external drive. Have rescanned the library in Logic and they are not showing up either in the library or in the channel strip drop-down menu.
Have others had this problem with "third-party" software instruments that do not come as package files? The only non-built-in software instruments that I have ever successfully installed in an Apple product were either from the Jam Packs or came as a "package" where you double-click the "box" icon and the product installs.

Even though both the Puremagnetik instructions and an e-mail from the support address there specifically said to place the files in the top level directory, guess what? Based on this suggestion I placed an alias in the user level directory and it worked. Logic is now seeing the soft synths. Thank you!

What labview package do I need to develop third party labview instrument drivers?

We have been asked develop labview 6.1 drivers for a third party data acquisition card. What Labview package do we need to buy, basic, pro etc?

The only way to really program for a third party data acquisition card in LabVIEW would be through a "call library function node". You would have to call the dll that third party card developer provided. As far as I know all LabVIEW packages contain a "call library function node". I would recomend buying at least the full development environment because of some of the additional features in that package.

I used a third party programme called Mackeeper UGHHH,it moved loads of files to the trash now i do not know where they originally came from or belong!! the put back option is in grey??how can i manually put these files back where they belong?SO upset!!

hello there thank u so much for ur reply!! ok i uninstalled mackeeper now and the put back option is still in grey im so confused...i tried restarting my computer like u said and put back still in grey??!! the files that are in my trash are everything from Accounts,address book plug-ins,address book,adobe,aim.........then stuff like apple,Audio,....to caches color pickers,colors,com.apple.TCC,to DVD player to facebook,google to ilifemedia browser to itunes to keychains to movie effects,preferences printers to skype...my Native instruments files BUT not all of them my garage band but not all of it...it seriously looks like my whole library is in the trash i tried to put things back where i THINK they belong and it just added the item or folder under where i thought it went and didnt restore functionality to for instance google chrome and all my book marks are there....they seem to be only certain things from my library that would have added some functionality to apps and programmes like my garageband is missing stuff photobooth wont work so on.......kinda looks a bit like this thats only the half of it!!
