I've searched the forums- I think my problem is unique.
Basically, the iTunes installer completely hangs my PC. I need to do a hard reset every time.
I've followed all the steps on Apple's troubleshooting guide to make sure EVERY trace of all things Apple has been removed first.
The iTunes installer hangs at the 'registering iTunes automation server' stage. My PC actually has to be reset via the power button.
This is an amazing step backwards. My initial problem was the previous version of iTunes hanging every time I even tried to open it (even in safe mode...!)- this had NEVER happened before, it was completely bizzare. So I'm trying the latest version of iTunes. But one thing at a time- I just need to get iTunes installing, first!
The only PC protection-type software I'm running is Microsoft Security Essentials. Real-time protection is off.
Can anyone help at all?

It's home-build, has been for two-plus years. Overclocked, sure, but iTunes has never been a problem, and no other programs show any sign of even a CTD, let alone a complete PC freeze. Nevertheless, I've tried iTunes with all BIOS settings on safe, and it still crashed.

I have NO idea if this is relevant, but all these problems started after I got a replacement iPhone 3GS under warranty. I think the replacement is buggy- it constantly crashes. It never restored properly, crashing, I assume, during the restore. Then iTunes froze. Then the installer froze. Wah!
Is this of any help? Oh, and it's not hardware related, I don't think- I tried this HDD in another PC, same problem.

ITunes freezing my MBP completely when opened
Hi, this has started happening to me just yesterday night, and if I can't find a fix for it could mean disaster to me as I wouldn't be able to sync my iPhone's info until someone somehow finds a solution, so any help is greatly appreciated.
I was organizing my songs as usual last night, everything seemed to be fine, then I walked away to do something else; when I came back, I turned on iTunes again, and my laptop completely froze (can't manually close the program, had to do a hard restart). Same thing happened again after restarting, everytime I turn iTunes on, within 5 seconds of iTunes popping up, "spinning beach ball" shows up, and my computer freezes. my cursor still moves, clock is still working, but I can't click on anything. After searching online for a solution, I have come to realize that it's quite a common problem, but no one seems to have a sure shot way to fix this. I have tried un-installing/re-installing, and I have tried going to disk utility and repairing disk permission, but to no avail. I would really hate to format my hard drive, as there are way too many things in my laptop to back up, so that would be my absolute last resort and I'll try to steer away from that if possible. If anyone can lend a helpful tip, that'd be great! Please let me know also if you need any more information from me. completely wipe your iTunes off of your HD, (preferences, everything do a search) then just make sure all other programs are working... if you experience other crashes, then you do need a clean install, maybe even a HD wipe.... (also remove battery for a couple mins to reset some things helps some things, but this doesn't sound like one of them)
if no other crashes, try installing itunes from a stand alone installer, downloaded from Apple....

ITunes Freezes when iPod is plugged in
Can anyone help me? I'm about ready to throw both my IPod and computer out the window! Everything has been working fine and all of a sudden, whenever I plug my IPod in, ITunes completely freezes up. As soon as I unplug the IPod, ITunes starts working again.
I have a 30 GB IPod, Windows XP, and ITunes 7.1.1.5. I have tried all of the following: reinstalling ITunes, reinstalling the IPod software, plugging the USB cable into a different port, using a new USB cable. The only thing I haven't done is restore the IPod, and I can't do this because of ITunes freezing every time the IPod is plugged in.
Like I mentioned above, everything was working fine and then all of a sudden this started happening. Has anyone else had this problem? I'd appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks.

Dell Dimension 8300 Windows XPI have the same problem: if I load iTunes for a second time and my iPod is plugged in the iTunes app and the system menus (top right corner of screen) freeze up.
Unplugging and plugging in the iPod seems un-freeze everything for me. -

Just downloaded iTunes onto my computer & I know that the news said iTunes has been running slowly since a million people got ipods for x-mas, but is this why my iTunes freezes every time I try to play my library? It eventually unfreezes, but does this every time...
Also, and my bigger issue -- my iTunes keeps "ejecting" CD's when I am both playing them or importing them into my library. A message box keeps appearing saying I have illegally ejected a CD (ejected without stopping it) even though I have done nothing (and the CD is still in the computer). After it says this, it is impossible for my to ACTUALLY eject the CD without restarting my whole computer. This is getting annoying. Anyone know why?I am having the same problem. I have been checking various discussions and it seems the problem lies with iTunes 8. People who have iTunes 8 are having big problems burning discs and having iTunes recognize blank discs. Apple seems to be doing nothing to remedy the situation.

Itunes locks up before completely transfering all songs to ipod
I recently had my 20G 3rd Generation replaced with a refurbished model through Best Buys service exchange program.
When I sync the new ipod to Itunes, it only transfers around 9 gb of songs (I only have 12 gb of music), then itunes just freezes.
After I disconnect the ipod, I see that only 500 mb of songs actually made it into the Ipod. What happen to the other 8.5 gb of songs that was suppose to be transfered?
After syncing the ipod for the second, third, and fourth time, only 500 mb is stored shown in the ipod, even though 6-8 gb of music was transfered before locking up.

my ipod is the 4gen 20gig and it started to skip and pause and was getting progressively worse... i then attached it to my computer and it said something about it not being recognized and then i had no choice to reformat it and then would only transfer some songs and not all that i had dragged and dropped ... and then some songs would skip again and i would go thru it all again -

Setesh, See if both computer has the same version of iTunes, if both are the same, then it is your PC, that has plug-ins which is in conflict it iTunes. ( normally it is the Antivirus or some plug-ins to beautify your screen)
If it is different, most likely the other PC has an older version of iTunes, so you should downgrade your iTunes to that older version, which your iPod interface well with.
Other probable causes,
you are using the USB 1.1 port at the front of your PC, and not the USB2,0 port at the back of your PC. so switch to the back.
Dont use any other USB devices, when you are syncing the iPod.
Dont use any USH Hub.

iTunes compelled me to download the latest version, before I could complete a transaction (which, needless to say, was botched). I have Windows XP, and I cannot open iTunes now without freezing or crashing my computer. This is utterly frustrating, since I can't even play any holiday music, much less update my iPod.
Can I uninstall, and reinstall the older version? I do not need all the bells and whistles, and I detest the new format (even if it were to run on my computer)?
I'd love to be able to access my Xmas playlist someday.What didn't work? Removing everything or just the older version of Bonjour? Did you follow the instructions in the link I provided above to walk you through the process?
Perhaps it would be a better idea to post this in the iTunes forums, since it is an issue with iTunes and your iPod Shuffle.

when i start downloading a CD purchase it downloads approx 3 to 4 songs then just stops says downloading waited a hour still downloading had to force quit iTunes then reopen to complete download keeps doing this every time i purchase a cd any ideas ?
I too am facing this problem, however a little differently. I am in the process of uploading my vinyl collection to digital format in Audacity and am having this problem with multiple tracks when played in iTunes. The first few albums I ripped play just fine in iTunes, but the last few skip over about the last minute of every song and go to the next song. As you said, if you drag the time marker past the skipping point though, the rest of the song will play to the end just fine. I then synced these songs onto my iPod and they play perfectly straight through. I was leaning toward a bad mp3 encoding process that was maybe creating a glitch but I'm not sure at this point if they play correctly on my iPod. In quicktime the song will just stop playing at that specfic point, but if you hit play again, it will continue to the end. I can say though, I haven't seen this problem with any iTunes download, or ripped CD that I have ever put into iTunes (which makes my situation a tad different than yours), it's been purely the songs that I have imported via Audacity from LP's.

Check for hardware issues
Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support. -
I have iphone 4g and have updated to ios6 an updated itunes 2, but while sync itunes freezes and iphone is not sybc fully, finally i have to disconnect my iphone for itunes to shunt down. Can some one please tell why this is happening?
I am having this problem. At first with the new iPhone 5, and then with the iPad 2. I am not sure why this is happening.
My gut feeling is this is an iO6 issue and here's why -
The problem mainly occurs with apps. I have about 150 apps, and when I plugged in the phone, iTunes went to sync all of them. The process would hang up after about 20 - 30 apps were loaded onto the phone. I could tell where about the process hung up because the apps on the phone showed up as "waiting".
Then on the iPad 2 I plugged in to sync and saw there was a huge "Other" component in my storage. It required me to restore the iPad 2 from backup. With this restore the same issues occurred - putting the apps back on the iPad would hang up. The videos on the iPad also got stuck - maybe after about 10 hours of videos transfered iTunes crashed.
My solution has been to soft reset the device, restart Windows, and continue the process until it's complete. This is remarkably inefficient and time-intensive but everything works with patience.
I have been wondering if others have had these same problems. -
i have 3 different itunes accounts and would like to combine them into just one for all my devices, a macbook pro, an iphone 4S, an older IPOD, and a ver sion one Ipad. how can i do this on all devices ?
i had one for a long time, then when i got the ipad i didn't realize they would all still work under one so i set up the second one on that
then when i got the new iphone i put in the info for the first and main one from my mac pro and it would not work at all, and i knew it was right, then it asked me to create a new one or i couldnt finish the setup
hence why i have 3 now
hard to believe you cannot combine into one

I am playing a game I really enjoy but when I try to make a purchase in the game I get a message that reads "Contact itunes store support to complete this transaction." ITunes freezes when I connect my iPad, what is causing this?
My iPad continuously boots me out of my apps when i try and use them, Someone suggested I clean it and refill it. My problem is that when I connect it to my PC to sync it with iTunes, my iTune software freezes. I can click on anything with no result. As soon as I disconnect the iPad the last command I gave it responds.
Here is what I tried already:
I ran a dianogtics test on iTunes while the iPad was disconnected and everything is fine.
I ran it with the iPad connected (I hit the test button seconds after I connected the iPad) and everything is still fine. it even stated that my iPad was connected.
I made sure my iTunes has the latest version.
I also checked the iPad for any updates and it stated it was up to date.
I made sure there was no apps running on the iPad hen I connected it.
I tested my PC for any problems and there was none, including my internet connection.
On the iTunes screen it shows my iPad connected, but, just like every other command, it will not respond when I click on it.
Please someone help.Is iTunes freezing on the iPad or on your computer?
Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
