All new keyboards need Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and above for full functionality.
Rather short-sighted of Apple perhaps, but that seems to be a trend these days.
I'm afraid the only fix is to upgrade to SL. Personaly, I'd take it back and get a refund and seek an older keyboard or a third-party one elsewhere.

How does a usb keyboard attached externally work?
You might try a "hard reset" where you remove battery and AC charger, hold down power button 20-30 seconds and then reassemble and turn on. Reset BIOS (F10) to default settings, too.

Are you certain you are using a keyboard layout that matches the hardware layout?

Some keys on my MacBook are not working. For example, the "b" is not working. But when I turn on capslock it will type "B". Any ideas???

  • Some of the shortcut keys and directional keys on the keyboard are not working in FF 4 RC1 (i.e. Tab, Ctrl+C, arrow keys). They work fin in FF 3.6x and other applications.

Crtl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+X, Tab, and arrow keys do not work at all in FF4.0b13 and later. I am not sure about earlier versions as this is the first version I have tried.

I found this helpful article (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1381) and worked my way through the section "Some keys don't work as expected".
All the following functions/settings are disabled or turned off:
Text to speech / Speak selected text when the key is pressed
    Slow Keys
    Mouse Keys.
The keyboard viewer just confirms my list of keys that are not working.
Starting in safe mode makes no difference; nor does booting from the Mac OS X Install Disc and running Terminal from the Utilities menu. The same keys as before fail to work.
This seems to confirm that it's a hardware issue. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Some keys on the keyboard are not working on my Qosmio F60

    Hi,
I had my laptop 2 years now and never had any problems before but recently some of the keys on my laptop keyborad are not working like fn key, i, e, r, t, y, u, ,i, o, = etc. Curently I am using an external keyborad to overcome this problem. I did a complete reinstall but problem still persits.
Can you please suggest where the problem might be. It is very confusing as some keys are working fine but some are not.
    Regards,

In my opinion problem is defective keyboard. As you can see complete OS reinstallation didnt change anything. It must be hardware related issue.
Sorry but I think keyboard must be replaced.

  • TS3048 Right click on Mighty Mouse and Wireless Keyboard are not working

I have a 24" iMac, early 2009  Lion,10.7.5.  My wireless keyboard and mighty mouse are not working properly. Wireless keyboard- I can turn it on and it will ask me to pair it with the Blue Tooth.  I cannot log the numbers in - I even tried logging them in with my wired keyboard device (which is an Apple keyboard).
My Mighty Mouse's right click stopped working as well.
I have gone through all of the troubleshooting steps-
New Batteries - Cleared Blue tooth preferences list, repaired permissions, Cleared cache, Made sure that the settings were correct ex: key was not checked on mouse, Removed both devises (keyboard, and mouse) from blue tooth and allowed them to be discovered again, PRAM reset, Hardware check/ reset, and lastly, Reinstall of OSX.
I am still having the same issue with both devices.
    Thank you.

This is why you should always have a wired keyboard and mouse as backups.
Try smc and hope for the best.
I'd also suggest pram reset but you need the keyboard for that.

Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.

    Hi

Do you use wireless devices? Are batteries OK?
Have you noticed the same problem using other USB devices?
I presume both devices uses USB port on your notebook.

  • Some of my keys are not working on my macbook air. Should i contact apple or is the problem simple.

Hello. I have a Macbook Air and I just recently realized that some of my keys do not work or they will work when I press the letter or number next to the key that I need. Can someone help me. I do not know what is wrong or why this is doing this since I got the computer on March 26, 2012. Thank you.

This is probably something you should take your computer into Apple for repair. You might check your language settings in the language Preferences and look at the input sources tab.
