TIFF troubles with Lightroom

LR 1.3.1 Win XP, CS3
When CS3 saves TIFF images exported from LR that have layers, they are saved with:
ZIP Image compression
Per Channel Pixel Order
ZIP Layer Compression.
The Per Channel Pixel Order (RRGGBB) means than most other applications can't read the file.
The TIFF files need to be saved with Interleaved Pixel Order (RGBRGB).
The problem doesn't occur with TIFFs exported by LR when no layers are added in PS. It never happens when TIFF files are created by any other application than LR.
Lightroom is doing something that causes the problem. What can be done to correct the problem.

I think that's your hint. There is something wrong with the location you're trying to copy to, perhaps a lack of authorization. What happens if you copy the images to your desired location and then import to LR, telling the program that you want to leave the images where they are?
You didn't say what version of Lightroom you're using, nor what operating system it's running under, and those pieces of information might help somebody help you.

  • World of trouble with Lightroom

From what I've been reading, a lot of people seem happy with lightroom 1.0
It's giving me a world of trouble.
    1. Sometimes it just crashes while importing a big folder of raw images. And when it doesn't crash, it takes forever.
    2. I get outofmemory errors all the time
    3. It seems unworkably slow...maybe I'm just not used to it.
    4. When I'm importing from a memory card, there is no way to convert to .dng and have a full-sized image preview made at that time?
    5. If I set a label in lightroom, using a .dng file, then later open the file with bridge, the label won't show up.
    6. There are tons of interface glitches/annoyances. Like the annoying flaps on the side pop open when you don't want them to, then you have to wait for them to go away. When you use the key command to reject an image (X key), you can't just press (x) again to unreject it. You can't even do control-x or alt-x you have to get the mouse and click the stupid reject flag. And the flags don't show up in the loupe view...in fact there is very little info in the loupe view. So when you are looking at an image, you have to take your eyes away from it to see what the label is, what the flag is, etc.
I'm using XP x64...I don't know if this is a factor with the memory leaks and performance, but this really feels like beta software still. It doesn't feel like lightroom is ready for primetime yet!

It is quite obvious by now that the Lightroom modules when run on the PC platform, with the exception of the 'Develop' module, are pretty much broken and should be used minimally.
The 'Develop' module is great, I have NOTHING bad to say about it, but the modules around it pretty much stink. And virtually nothing about it has to do with the PC platform itself.
As I keep saying, I love the 'Develop' module, but the 'Library' module is so full of bugs and shortcomings that it is best avoided. Specially from a professional perspective... it may be adequate for amateurs and their needs, but the glitches and workarounds make it pretty much unusable as a professional tool.
I guess I should justify my statements:
    a) File Ingestion - Downloading files is slow since it does a simultaneous import, which builds up the database and therefore is slow. When you have to download several cards with several hundred photos and do picks on deadline, you don't have time to be waiting around for Lightroom to build previews. Solution: Download using the OS drag and drop or a dedicated tool like "Downloader Pro", and do your initial selection and sorting with a separate sorting package of your choice. Only after you have whittled down the photos using a different tool should you consider importing into the Lightroom database.
    b) File renaming. Again, amateur at best when compared to even a cheap tool like BreezeBrowser.
    c) File organization, tagging, etc. Unless you generate 100% previews, it is unusably slow. You need 100% previews if you will be considering detail during your sort. And generating all 100% previews takes forever and results in a HUGE ligrary... if you are sorting JPEGs, you end up with a thumbnail collection larger than you original photo collection! So the solution is: IMPORT ONLY FINAL CHOICES INTO THE LIGHTROOM LIBRARY. Use Lightoom only for significant 'keepers'. Do your initial ingestion and sorting using almost anything else.
Once you get the actual photos that you want to adjust into the Library, and no more, then the program starts to really shine.
The stability is somewhat better on the Mac platform (I use both platforms), but the same issues of ingestion time, renaming, 100% preview building exist. They are part of the program core design.
(Slideshow and HTML generators are not even worth considering at this time, they are so limited when compared to so many other options available. I can not comment on the print module, since it does not do "print to File", provide soft-proofing, allow output to specific profiles, etc... so it too is fairly limited for 'pro' purposes, and utterly useless if you output to commercial printing systems.)

  • After installation trouble with lightroom **please help me**

When i installed lightroom (3.6 and 4) i keep getting this error message that says " unexpected error opening catalog" i can't use or open lightroom< it doesn't give me specific details as to why it's not working. I've tried to update my computer with the services packs that it says in the requirements section when you download and i keep getting an error that won't allow it to update. I've tired using microsoft fix it and system update readniness tool to help update. My laptop is a windows 7 home premium. please help me on to fix this problem

Have you used it before?  It sounds like it's open a default - and corrupt - catalog.
You can create a new one and start from scratch by holding down control as you start it.

  • Troubles with Lightroom 3 import

My lightroom will not let me import. I upload all of my pictures to iPhoto then export them to a picture file (keeping all in original formant of RAW) usually it just lets me pick my folder and import but now it refuses, I pick the pics and it says that it is unable "Could not copy file to requested location". I've also tried to import directly from the card and it comes up with a similar message. What is wrong? I have photos that needed edited!
    Thanks

  • I am having trouble with lightroom and photoshop being too slow.

Currently I am using LR 5.6 64bit andCS5 64 bit. Is the programs are running too slow because I am using 64 bit? If so, how do I get the other versions. I just started having this problem with the new upgrades.
Please if anyone knows what to do please answer right away. I have jobs that I need to get out.

Thank you both for replying. My processor is 3.2 Ghz. Ram 8gig 64 bit operating. Size of files are 29.6m
available Ram is set to 7170 range in MB i have set to 5019. I have the sync set to sync everything.
When I am importing into lightroom a new scan card, Raw, Canon D 5 Mark II raw. my Lightroom changes to DNG. It can take several minutes to edit. LR will spin quite a while when I try to look at a file in library or develop module after the files have been imported to lightroom. I have my preferences set to hold for 30 days so it should not take so long for files to refocus when I close lightroom and then reopen later. When I bring photo into photoshop, it sometimes it will not open if I have another file open in Photoshop. It takes 30 seconds for a file to open in photoshop from Lightroom. When I zoom in on a photo in LR it takes up to 30 seconds to focus.

  • Trouble with Lightroom 4 and windows 8

after recently updating my operating system to windows 8 i started getting this message every time i tried to open my Lightroom 4 even after restarting my computer. I also uninstalled and then reinstalled Lightroom 4 to see if that was the problem as well but still no luck. Can anyone help?

There is a LOCK file holding it up. Close LR and search for a file that has the same name as your catalog but has a .LOCK extension. Delete the Lock file. Open Lightroom. It should work.

Check File > Document Settings > Raster Effects
    Settings.
The default is 72 dpi which is good enough for screen. 300
dpi is for print (press) but it may make screen redraw very slow.
Note that raster effects do not work well, or at all, in
FreeHand, especially with cmyk colors. And yes, most of the effects
    will blur the object (!?!).
Probably the best way to create these effects is to use
Phothosop. Also in Illustrator the raster effects do work.

  • I am having trouble syncing photos with lightroom mobile. Lightroom (on computer) tells me that it's syncing but nothing appears on my I pad. Any comments?

I am having trouble syncing photos with lightroom mobile. Lightroom (on computer) tells me that it's syncing but nothing appears on my I pad. Any comments?

however when I try to sync my older ipod with it and upload some new music to it, Itunes keeps telling me that all the previous songs will be erased
Yes, that's correct. If you don't have the songs that are currently on your iPod also in your new iTunes installation, they will be erased from the iPod if you sync it. Best to start afresh by first transferring all the music on your iPod back to your new computer/iTunes library.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.
Once all the music is safely back in your new iTunes library, you can sync your iPod as normal.

  • Pro photo lab having trouble with customer's lightroom images

I am not a Lightroom user.....I am a pro photo lab using Noritsu equipment and Kodak DP-2 software.........when I import files converted to JPG in Lightroom, they have a pasty, yellowish, flat, lifeless quality.not at all as they appear when displayed in Photoshop.........Is this a profile problem...Can you help me????

It sounds like the JPGs may have been exported with an AdobeRGB or even a ProPhotoRGB color-profile instead of the sRGB they should have. This is not a problem with Lightroom, just a problem with how someone used Lightroom.
You should be able to correct this in Photoshop if you have that. Use Edit / Convert to Profile... which should show what they have currently and then select sRGB as the Target profile.
If the images were exported without a color profile then look and see what Photoshop (which you said they look ok in) is using as its working RGB profile using Edit / Color Settings...
If the embedded profile is sRGB then it seems outside the realm of Photoshop and Lightroom problems. It could be that these have had the Noritsu profile for a particualr type of paper applied, but I don't know that you can do this with Lightroom.

  • Trouble with printing tone from Efex Pro to printer from Lightroom

I am having big trouble with a photo that was toned in Silver Efex Pro 2. When I print, the tone is not there. I have done the same kind of toning before, but never had this problem. I even tried printing a photo that had a lot of tone... not there when I print. I am pretty sure I have all the setting correct. Printing with Epson 2880, Epson Hot Press Bright, Profile for HPB, etc.
After 6 hours (really) with Epson and Adobe, the problem is not solved.
    Help!

    Hi bannyx,
I hate to hear you are having issues.  Does the printer have a valid IP address when connected via Ethernet or wirelessly?  Click Here for steps to take related to this issue. Please see the below information regarding the connection types for this printer.  Also I need a bit more information to proceed if the above link does not resolve the issue.
    Needed information:
    1.  Has the installation been completed from a disk or download?
    2.  Did the installation software detect the networked printer?
    2.  What is the IP of the printer when connected with Ethernet cable?
    3.  Are you able to access the embedded web server for the printer (type IP into address bar of web browser, does printer web page pull)?
    4.  Do you have security software running on the computer?
    5.  Is the router running in mixed mode?
    Connection information:
    1. Ethernet and wireless connectivity are exclusive.  If the device is hard wired with an Ethernet cable, wireless communication is voided (radio disabled) because the printer is networked with a cable.
    2. Disconnecting the USB cable puts the driver in an offline state due to the fact it cannot communicate with the printer.  This is normal; it basically informs the user the device is not communicating.
    Hope this helps!
Also, remember a click on the Kudos star to the left is a quick "Thanks" for a helpful post.

    I appreciate your input !

  • Exposure problem with Lightroom 4 CS5 and Raw 6.7

    Hi all
I have recently upgraded from Lightroom 3.6 to the new Lightroom 4 and am genrally pretty happy with it, I tend to use it along with photoshop CS5 extended and also imagenomic Portraiture, but I have found an annoying little problem in doing this and something that I never suffered with when using Lightroom 3.6 and it is this...
when I take an image from Lightroom 4 and click Edit image in Photoshop CS5 and then use Imageonmic to soften skin etc all seems to work well I then carry out any touching up within Photoshop and once finished save it back to lightroom for any final tweaks etc which is fine and all works smoothly, except once I have saved it back to Lightroom the exposure has been pushed up about 3-4 stops at least , meaning I then have to pull it down again and this can sometimes result in extra editing I could do with out. now I know its not the end of the world and is probably just a bug that I'm hoping will be sorted within Lightroom 4 but I just wondered if anyone else has had a similar problem, is it a bug or am I doing something wrong? (although I'm doing the same with Lighroom 4 as i used to do with LIghtroom 3.6 and that worked fine)
Oh one more thing I should mention to get lightroom 4 and CS5 to work properly together I had to go into the Adobe Labs site and download the Camera RAW 6.7 software for CS5 so it could also be a bug here i guess.

There have been several posts over on the Lightroom forum, and other non-Adobe forums also, about this issue: it seems that there's a bug in ACR 6.7RC which causes the image to be over-expose, compared with the setting applied using PV2012 in LR. I guess this is the kind of thing a Release Candidate is supposed to flag up! I was all set to upgrade my own ACR to ensure that PS would recognise my LR4 edits (I normally avoid RC versions and wait for the final), but all the reports of this problem have stopped me from doing so.
In the meantime, best option so far as I'm aware is to process the image in LR (you get the option when you choose to edit in PS), meaning that it does all the rendering before passing it over to PS (otherwise, ACR handles the conversion of the raw file into TIFF). This does however mean that smart-objects and so on are temporarily out of the equation.
I'm sure this will all be resolved pretty soon.
Edit: in fact, one of the posts I mentioned is about ten posts down in this very forum: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/974963?tstart=0

  • Edit in external editor with lightroom adjustments issue LR5 and PS CC

Since several days when I try (in Lightroom) 5 to edit an adjusted file (NEF, JPEG or TIFF) in Photoshop CC as external editor (with the option "edit a copy with lightroom adjustments") in many cases the adjustments ar not visible in photoshop CC, or only partial visible, and sometimes the file opens not at all. Removal of the preference files of LR 5 and PS CC and  a whole new installation of LR 5 didn't resolve the issue. I have a macbookPRO with Mac OS 10.8.5 and the most recent versions of LR 5 and PS CC. Has anyone experienced this problem and what can be a solution.

I have no idea, but have you tried File / Catalog Settings/ General tab: Relaunch and Optimize. Relates to the database.

  • Opening file in Photoshop with Lightroom edits doesn't work anymore

I have LR5.3 and PS CS6. Since I've updated camera Raw, my files won't open as Tiff files when I want to edit them in Photoshop. Hence, all the edits made in LR before won't be kept. I don't see the window saying "Open in PS with Lightroom edits"???? Anybody had the same problem? In LR Preferences, Tiff is preciser as the file format to edit in PS but it doesn't work

Have a look at this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1385332?tstart=0
    Does that help??

  • How to make photoshop work concurrently with Lightroom?

Usually I start adjusting in lightroom and then do hard edits in photoshop.  When I work with Tiff files in Lightroom its great because I dont have to save my changes as I work on a batch of photos.  When I open one of my tiffs from lightroom into photoshop is there a way for the edits that i make in photoshop to be applied to that file in lightroom without saving the file again in photoshop?
