Tiffsplit crashes on Solaris (sparc and intel), okay on Linux

Hello experts,
I have a tiff file that causes a crash with tiffsplit when run
on Solaris (both Sparc and Intel) but not on Linux.
It works successfully on
Red Hat Linux 2.4.18 -- libtiff.so.3.5
but crashes on
Solaris 9 on Sparc -- libtiff.so.3.7.1
Solaris 9 on Sparc -- libtiff.so.3.9.4
Solaris 10 on Intel -- libtiff.so.3.8.2
It's crashing at a call to
TIFFGetField(in, TIFFTAG_GROUP3OPTIONS, &v)
and pstack shows stack trace like
$ pstack /var/core/core.tiffsplit.15965

What could I do to make it work properly on Solaris 9 on Sparc ?
Thanks for your help.

You should have no problems if both are using Sun's Java Runtime enviroment. I believe there are some problems with Microsofts implementation of Java, but I don't know exactly what.

  • WRT110 crashes with Vista SP1 and Intel 3945

I have a WRT110 with the latest firmware 1.0.4, an a Dell XPS1330 with the Intel 3945abg wireless card and the latest drivers in Intel. When ever my laptop tries to connect the router crashes and drops all other connections with other wireless devies and wired devices. I also have another laptop running XP that works great on the wireless connection. It's same to say the problem is limited to the Vista machine and the Intel 3945 wireless card. Now sure what to do?

I have the same problem. Took me a while to figure out that when i connected my Toshiba laptop with Vista and Intel 3945 Router and network crashed couldnot even get the router accessed on hardwired computer. Everything returns back to normal when laptop disconnected from wireless network
Customer support was not able to help, called them twice. I solved by connecting an old wireless router to one of the ports of Linksys and connect my Vista laptop on that wireless network. That is not really a solution but if you'd like to, return the router until they can at least admit that there is a problem with compatibility, upgrading firmware on wireless adaptor did not help.

  • Solaris 9 and Intel 845

    Hi
I'm trying to get this Intel 845 graphic chip to work with Solaris 9.
I've installed The XFree86 porting kit, tried the VESA driver but it still doesn't work.
Had a look att this page, but it didn't help me.
    http://www.xfree86.org/~dawes/845driver.html
    Any ideas anyone???

After two days of hard work and digging the Sun documents site, I found the following:

  • Solaris 10 and Intel RAID Controllers SRCSAS144E

    Where can I download a drivers ?

    That answer was trollish.
Did you look into this card - did you even try to see if Solaris could support a PCI-express MegaRAID SAS? This is the heart of the - ssr212mc2 - http://www.intel.com/design/servers/storage/ssr212mc2/index.htm . This is a pure Intel reference design. This is the most drives that fits into a 2U **EVER**. This is the best storage product in existence today. So being snarky and not supporting it will only hurt Sun. The SRCSAS144E is a MegaRAID SAS controller. Need I remind you that the Sun v60 and Sun v65 were pure Intel reference servers that worked GREAT! It works in Linux, want to see:

Usually we get this problem with PERCs here, this crap where Solaris drivers, unlike **all** other operating systems, strangely don't work with Modern (far more modern than any of the crap storage cards Sun sells) versions of LSI cards.
    Strange.

  • Solaris 9 and Intel 8086,109a nics

Due to MySQL Cluster hanging Solaris 10, I have attempted to run Solaris 9 on these Supermicro 6014 Intel servers. The hardware is a little too new, but it mostly works. I can not boot directly off HDD ("prom_panic: Could not mount filesystem") so I am currently using a boot floppy. This will do temporarily.
However, I had to use an old 3com nic in the server, and it would be much better if I could get the on-board nics to work. I have been attempting to get them to plumb for quite a while without success.
    The meaty details:
    SunOS mysqldata02 5.9 Generic_122301-17 i86pc i386 i86pc

Repeat all commands above, no difference. It just does not want to see it. I must admit I do not know if it is supposed to be pci8086 or pciex8086. Perhaps Solaris 9 can not do pciex?
I have tried disabling ACPI, and Plug'n'Pray, and all combinations of those two.
    Any help would be appreciated.

And anyway if you use a Solaris8 DCA that works the samem, since they are not much changes in hardware support for x86, and the important thing is to use further a Solaris 9 Cd to install.
By the way these IBM x86 boxes (300 an NetVista series from a pair of years ago) are a pain, they don't support el-torito, even with the more recent bios.

  • WLS 10.3.0.0 Solaris SPARC and DBMS Oracle 10gR2 connection pooling issue

    Hi all,
we are currently testing Weblogic Server 10.3.0.0 in order to migrate our production system from WLS 8.1 to it.
While testing the new setup, we encountered some strange behaviour of the connection pooling within WLS.
We configured a XA-Connection pool to our DB (Oracle 10gR2) by using
    a) the Oracle XA-thin-driver delivered within WLS 10.3.0.0
    and alternatively
    b) the Oracle 11.2.0.2 OCI-driver of the Oracle 11g database client.
We´ve got the same issue with both variants. We defined an initial capacity of 5 connections and a maximum capacity of 30 connections.
Our application is running flawlessly using the connection pool, but the amount of active sessions between the application server and the database server is increasing rapidly and the maximum capacity is exceeded. We are seeing up to multiple hundreds of sessions from the application server to our database server. Obviously the connections aren´t cleaned up.
We are using the following settings for the JDBC-Connection:
    initial capacity = 5
    max. capacity = 30
    Capacity increment = 1
    Statement cache type = LRU
    Statement cache size = 10
Test connections on reserve = true
    Test frequency = 120
Test table name = "sql select 1 from dual"
seconds to trust an idle pool connection = 10
    shrink frequency = 0
connecttion creation retry frequency = 120
    login delay = 0
    incative connection timeout = 10
max. waiting for connection = 2147483647
    connection reserve timeout= = -1
    Ignare in-use connections = true
    pinned-to-thread = false
remoce infected connections enabled = true
Does anyone have an idea how to track/solve this issue?
    Kind regards
    Marc

    Hi Joe,
we´ve tested with the thin driver using an initial capacity of 5 and a maximum capacity of 15. During our tests (in a very short time period) the maximum capacity has not been exceeded. But we saw some exceptions in the managed server logfile which made us curious.
When these exceptions are occuring, a new connection to the database server is established. We are seeing for a short time a total count of 6 connections which is immediately decreasing to the initial capacity of 5. We will do some further testing over the next hours and monitor the connection usage.
The connection we are dealing with is the one called "ZDB2".
This is an excerpt of the logfile:

  • W2100z Supplemental 2.5 XpReburn produces non-bootable ISO in Solaris Sparc

Just posting in case helps someone else...
The XpReburn script from the W2100z Supplemental 2.5 CD is commented as being able to run on Solaris Sparc:
    # This script was developed on Solaris X86. It will run on Solaris Sparc
    # and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3. It is not guaranteed to work unmodified
    # accross all versions of Linux. This script is experimental. Some end user
    # MODIFICations may be necessary for it to run on other linux distributions
    # and system configurations.Running XpReburn under Solaris Sparc 10 produced an .ISO image apparently without error, but the resulting image would not boot.
Found the cause of the non-bootable image was the following section of XpReburn. It was using dd and od to extract 16-bit LBA values. On Solaris Sparc it ended up reading little-endian values as big-endian, hence extracting the boot loader from the wrong part of the XP CD. To get it to work under Solaris Sparc added conv=swab twice as shown below:
    # Read the boot loader from the CD into the image directory as a file. This process takes

    Michael,
Reading the submission guidelines it appears BigAdmin is for you own work:
By submitting content to the BigAdmin portal, you are attesting that your submission is your own non-confidential property and does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any party.
Whereas my "hint" above is really a bug report / enhancement request for a Sun supplied script.
I only have a basic support plan so don't think I can raise a bug report.
    Also:
    1) The modification listed was a quick hack to get the script to work under Sparc Solaris, but which would have caused the script to generate a non-bootable ISO if run under X86 Solaris.
    2) If you run the script on a ZFS filesystem you get an error that the filesystem isn't local - the script should be updated to consider a ZFS filesystem as local.
    3) If the script is run on a Solaris system with two optical drives, the script fails with an error because fails to correctly read the volume name of the XP CD. Can't remember the details, but just hacked the script to work.
So, so for now will just leave the "hint" in this thread.

Has anyone else seen a similar problem?
    Is there a solution?
    Cheers,
    Ian

I'm not from Oracle, but I'll try and help you nevertheless :)
First, Solaris and other real UNIX systems are much more picky about memory than Linux. I've seen countless applications fail when going from Linux to Solaris, HP-UX, or AIX; almost all of which are just using memory incorrectly. Linux is just more forgiving, which means you need to do more memory bound/leak checking. Nevertheless, that's just a bit of info on UNIX vs. Linux in application porting; it shouldn't have anything to do with Oracle's ODBC driver though.
The thing is, I'm seeing odd memory issues with 10.2.0.3 on Linux (x86_64) as well. What version are you using on Linux?

  • Install Oracle for SPARC on intel machine?

can i install oracle for SPARC on a Solaris x86 box?
As I am not able to find right version for it.

Not, you can not do it because a version made up for Sparc is adjusted to the assembler for that processor. The assembler language of Sparc and Intel are different.

  • Windows ODBC Client for Timesten in Solaris Sparc

Hello, i need help to solve this issue :
I have a Timesten version 5.1.28 ( 32 bits) running in Solaris Sparc and a Windows 2003 server connected to the same network.
I need to install a Timesten ODBC client in my windows 2003 server in order to get connection to my timesten database in Solaris.
How can i get a timesten ODBC client for Windows ??
    Thanks for your Help
    Luis.

    Hi Luis,
TimesTen 5.1 is a desupported release. If you are a licensed TimesTen customer, you need to contact the TimesTen Support team to get your issue resolved as the 5.1 release is not available for download from OTN.
To contact the Oracle TimesTen Support team, please open a Metalink case for the TimesTen product, the product number is 1870. This will get routed to the Oracle TimesTen Support engineers.
If you already have the Windows 5.1.28 TimesTen bits, you can do the client only installation.

  • Orion download Solaris/SPARC

Just downloaded Orion Users Guide from
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/orion/index.html
The Users Guide (on page 2) states that the Orion software is available for Linux/x86, Solaris/SPARC and Windows/x86.
However only the following software files are listed on the download page:
         orion_linux_em64t.gz (767,380 bytes)
         orion10.2_linux.gz (630,354 bytes)
         orion10.2_windows.msi (7,865,856 bytes)
Please include a link to the Solaris/SPARC version, if it exists !
    -- Peter

You can find the Sparc downloads on the site. The problem is actually getting it to run. I've been trying to run it for some time and it keeps giving me the following error:
Parse error: View help screen using orion -help
although I'm 100% sure that the parameters are right. trussing shows that Orion relies on a lot more than the documentation says. I'm currently downloading Instant Client to try to satisfy the requirements (this wasn't mentioned anywhere by the way). http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/htdocs/sol64soft.html
For example, some libraries such as libociei.so, libclntsh.so.10.1 and libociicus.so to name a few.

    Good day.

I just wanted to throw in one more thought.  I have also seen that there is a restart=true parameter.  Maybe if we set this to true, and just issue the command to shut down the server in the script, the managed server will restart on its own.
    Would greatly appreciate any advice!

  • Crash dump error occur in solaris sparc DB Server

Can some one explain me the how the core dump occurs in solaris sparc server ,
Server has rebooting occurs in plade server

It seems the post was originally in the Certification forum.
That wasn't the correct location (by any stretch of the imagination).
It was moved to the Servers' General Discussion forum because it seems the issue was experienced on a Sun-branded blade system.
However it is an OS question, or perhaps a generic software question.
This thread has now been moved to the General Solaris forum, hopefully for closer topic alignment.
Response #1 is likely going to be the only appropriate answer.
If there is a core dump in the +/var/crash/<hostname>+ directory, then it's an OS issue.
If the core file(s) are elsewhere, then it's an application core and the provider of whatever that application might be will need to be consulted for support.
